Jake Burhans ran 2.5 to 3 miles in a 16-pound weighted vest by telling himself he was light and unstoppable. He quit twenty times in his head but kept going. The point: your mind can push past what your body thinks it can do.

Your self-talk is literally everything. Just went on a run, not a super long run, you know, 2.5, 3 miles. Got a little weighted vest on, like 16 pounds, and I said that I was going to run to the end and back. By the time I got to the end, I was like, I'm turning around, I'm, you know, or I'm walking, I'm gonna walk back. And I was like, no, I can keep going, I can keep going. And then the whole time it's literally just like, I am light, I am energized, I can do this, you are greatness, you are unstoppable. You just keep feeding yourself that. I wanted to quit probably 20 times. I was like, when I get to the end of this, it's gonna be such a good testament to my own self-talk, my own beliefs, all this stuff. And you can use anything in your life, anything in your life to practice willpower. And your mind can go so much farther than you— than your body thinks it can, right? Because your body's conditioned to the past. But self-talk is freaking incredible, incredibly powerful.
