Jake Burhans compares changing your patterns to fixing a car: a mechanic doesn't scrap the whole vehicle for a broken starter, so don't condemn yourself for one broken thought. Pinpoint what needs fixing, take responsibility, and skip the self-judgment.
Just like a mechanic looks at a car and says, you know, the car's broken. They don't say this car's a piece of junk, it's a piece of crap, it's never gonna be anything. You know, that doesn't do anything for the car. It just says, hey, the starter's broken, or it needs an oil change, or it needs a new tire, or this filter needs to be changed, and it's good to go. Same thing with our programming. Hey, we just gotta fix this. We gotta change that thought, this emotional response. Stop making it personal where it doesn't have to be personal. So there's a difference between self-judgment and responsibility, and that's a huge distinction to understand.
