Jake Burhans says every disturbance, whether a thought or emotion, gives you a choice: feed it with attention and watch it escalate, or acknowledge it and let it pass. That moment-to-moment decision determines your inner peace.
Every single time that something disturbs you, it's a thought, it's an emotion, it's a belief, you have a choice. You have a choice whether you're going to continue to feed attention and energy into that thing and put yourself into a further dysregulated state, or you can choose to acknowledge it and let it go and be comfortable with whatever the feeling of anger or frustration or stress or anxiety is in the body. Let it go and get back to what you're doing. That single choice is going to determine your level of inner peace at any given moment on any given day.
