Jake Burhans argues overthinkers don't think more than anyone else; they're just too attached to their thoughts. Everyone's brain generates constant thoughts. The difference is whether you can watch them pass or get stuck on the hamster wheel.

The word overthinking is completely misunderstood, and that is why everyone has a problem with overthinking. You believe that you think too much. That's ridiculous. Your brain is designed to think thoughts all the time. Your brain actually isn't thinking any more thoughts than someone else's brain who is overthinking less. Your main problem is that you're more associated with your thoughts, which makes you feel like you're overthinking, right? You have thoughts throughout the day. You can't observe them and let them go. You think you are your thoughts, so you are overthinking, right? You're lost in the hamster wheel of the mind. Versus people who are able to live with more peace and control their thoughts. Not controlling anything, they're just not associating with every single thought that comes into their head. They can observe that thought of, oh, I can't do this, or what if that happens, and they can just let it go. So overthinking isn't a thinking problem, it's an association with your thoughts problem.
