Jake Burhans says the difference between owning a business and having a job is systems. A job keeps you on a hamster wheel chasing every deal yourself. A business means building processes that let your team close deals without you.

Everything about my business changed when I realized this one thing. It's not so much about me going out and getting deals and getting checks. It's about me creating systems so that I can have other people go out and get deals and get checks, right? Creating a business versus creating a job. If all I'm worried about is getting the next deal, I'm always going to be on that hamster wheel of sales and just getting the next deal, getting the next deal. I need to create those systems that I can eventually scale out and have other people getting those deals and bringing in revenue for the business. I hope that makes sense. Let me know what you're doing to scale your business in the comments.
