Rational Thinking That Rewrites Your Reality

Jake Burhans explains how to reprogram your subconscious by questioning your beliefs, gathering counter-evidence, and repeating new ones until they feel true. About 95% of behavior runs on subconscious programming from early life. Your thoughts trigger neurotransmitters that condition your body, and pairing thought with emotion is what actually rewires you.

What is going on everyone? Welcome to Chapter 5 of the Psycho-Cybernetics self-image course. Here we are talking about the power of rational thought. A lot of good concepts in here I'm excited to dive into. If you have not subscribed to the channel, go ahead and do so as you'll want to be notified of all the other videos I'm coming out with. Multipliers is a leadership series. Buy Back Your Time is an entrepreneurial kind of scaling your business, buying back your time. Series as well as this course. If you have not watched the introduction to this and then chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4, this will probably be confusing to you. Also, if you're not familiar with a lot of the concepts of self-image and things that people talk about like Bob Proctor and Earl Nightingale and Joe Dispenza, you might be a little bit confused hopping into this video. So I have a whole playlist created. Go back, listen to the intro, and then get up to this point and it'll be a lot easier. There's also action items for all that. All right, so Psycho-Cybernetics, again, one of the most powerful self-image books out there right now. We are on Chapter 5, how to utilize the power of rational thinking. Question every belief, keep only what serves who you're becoming. I tell this story all the time, but the most, you know, mind-boggling thing I ever realized was from Michael Singer. It was from The Untethered Soul. The book The Untethered Soul, and it was that I am not my thoughts or emotions. I'm the awareness observing them, right? How do I know that? Because how do I know that I'm feeling angry? How do I know that I'm feeling sad? How do I know that I'm happy? Because I'm the awareness observing that emotion. How do I know if I'm thinking a good thought, a happy thought, a positive thought, a negative thought? Because I'm the awareness observing those thoughts. So thoughts and emotion are an object to the consciousness or the awareness, just like this pair of glasses is, or this little grip, right, or my mouse, or whatever it is. Those are objects to the mind, just like thoughts and emotions are. So this is, this is an incredibly empowering thing, because on this journey to becoming the person that you want to be, you can choose which thoughts you want to entertain, which ones support who you're becoming, what emotions support who you're becoming. Same thing with beliefs. Beliefs are just thoughts repeated over and over with emotion until you, you like enough times until you believe it. That's all a belief is, right? It's a thought that you keep entertaining and putting awareness on and putting energy on. So question all of your beliefs that come in and question your thoughts and question your emotions and keep and hold on to only the ones that serve you, right? Everything else, just let it go. Doesn't mean you don't feel anger and frustration, or doesn't mean you don't think negative thoughts. It just means that you don't cling on to those things and hold on to them you let them go because you understand, hey, this is not serving my highest self or my new self. That's the biggest thing. So you were programmed and now you get to reprogram. All right, so we talked about the subconscious mind. I don't know if we— I don't think we've talked about that yet in the series, but the subconscious mind is basically the program that runs 95% of your behaviors, your thoughts, your patterns. It's like your subconscious computer program. Like Joe Dispenza will talk about it, Bruce Lipton, Bob Proctor— anyone who's anyone in this space of personal improvement understands the subconscious mind. And basically it's all your conditioned habits, belief systems, thoughts, identities, all wrapped into one. So when I'm consciously wanting to think positive thoughts, that's great, but that's only 5% of my actual behaviors throughout the day. The second I stop thinking about positive thoughts, whatever my underlying program is gonna kick in. That's why when you say, "Oh yeah, I'm gonna start being grateful," you're, maybe you're a negative person, which all of us deal with it. You have a lot of negativity. You say, "I'm gonna be grateful, I'm gonna be positive." You can do it for 5 minutes, but the second that you stop consciously thinking about it, what happens? You're doing something else and boom, those negative thoughts come in. You're complaining, you're griping about something because that's your subconscious program, right? So you need to rewire that and it's rewired through repetition. So most of our current beliefs were actually formed unconsciously. Most beliefs are formed, as I said, in your early years because you don't have an analytical mind yet and you're just a computer program downloading all this information about, you know, you're not worthy of money, it's hard to earn money, you need to work a corporate job, you can't go out and be an actor, or you can't be a painter, that's ridiculous, right? You got to go get a real job, you got to do this, you got to do that, you know, don't speak your mind because you're gonna get in trouble. All whatever these beliefs are, they're programmed into you, then you go into adulthood and you have no idea why you believe these things, or why you act this way, or why you're timid, or why you're scared, or whatever the case may be. But the good news is you can pause, question, and replace any belief. So Byron Katie says that the second that you question a belief, the ceiling, the glass ceiling starts to crack on if that's even true or real, right? So questioning your beliefs, like, okay, this is what I believe. Is that actually how it is in reality? And then deciding, does this belief really support who I'm becoming? And if it doesn't support who you're becoming, then just— then basically what you need to do is you look at the belief, you question it, you ask, is it true? You collect counter-evidence, maybe a situation in which that was not true. Maybe I thought like, I'm not good at talking to people, but if I can think back to one point in my life where I had a really good conversation, then I can prove, hey, that's just a false belief, that's not true, and I can reframe it into an empowering belief. Write it on a note card and repeat it to myself for 3 weeks until I actually believe it, right? Even if you don't believe it at first, if you do it enough times, you will believe it. Now, the, the neuroscience behind this, right, how do you reprogram your subconscious, um, with a new belief? Every time you think a thought, it signals a neurotransmitter, which releases a neuropeptide onto the hormonal centers of your body and emits an emotion, right? And over time, the thoughts that you think send chemical signatures to your body and programs your body. Your body is like the subconscious mind. It remembers. The Body Keeps the Score. I haven't read the book, but basically talks about how your body stores all this trauma. And the more that you think new thoughts, the more you recondition the body. So it's a conscious habit every single day to think the new thoughts. First, you got to be the awareness, question it, catch the thought. If it's negative, release it and choose the positive thought, and then just keep thinking that positive thought. And it's a rewiring progress— uh, process. You got to do it over and over and over again. But the biggest thing is they need to be replaced, not removed. So, and again, here's the thing too, you can't just say— you got to actually believe it emotionally, which is part of that process I talked about. You got to, in order to actually believe that this new belief is true, you question it, you have to collect counter evidence. Where's the situation in which this was not true, right? So you can prove it wrong to yourself so you can actually believe it. And then you reframe into an empowering truth. So feeling deeply into the new belief, it has to feel— actually has to feel real to you. So that thought or that logic plus emotion rewires your— the chemistry of your body, the biology of your body. Thought plus emotion. Joe Dispenza says a thought is a signal out into the quantum field about what you want, and the emotion that you feel is the energy that draws it in. Think a fearful thought, fear, fearful energy, draw fearful experiences into your reality. Think abundant thoughts, feel abundance, or maybe think, think thoughts of gratitude, feel gratitude, you're gonna attract things into your environment to feel grateful for. Because everything is just energy at the end of the day. And that's the incredible thing about quantum physics is it tells us that everything is energy. So when you're emitting the chemical or the frequency of gratitude, things come to— into your environment that mirror that frequency, because matter is just energy vibrating really, really slowly. So if you have the energy of gratitude out into the quantum field, whatever physical thing that matches that frequency, whether it's a phone call or a relationship or a compliment or an opportunity, is gonna come back to you. It's like a magnet. You send it out and that thing out in the field just wants to come in and, and connect with that energy. That's why the thought and the emotion reprograms your subconscious mind. So it's not just learning to believe it. It's got to— you gotta feel it's already true. You got to feel like it's true now because it is. The second you believe that it's true, it's real in the quantum field right now. You just have to wait for the external world to catch up to you. That's what it is. It's like the gap of becoming that Joe Dispenza talks about, but Your identity shifts, your belief shifts. Oh, I'm this person. Okay, great. But now you got to wait for the external world to catch up, right? So there's this gap, right? You're up here. Oh, I'm this person. I was here, now I'm here. External world still down here. So you got to wait for that external world to connect or meet you where you are. That's how manifestation works, a reality creation works. You have to be patient. You have to be consistent with your action. So as I'm up here, boom, like I can decide to be something greater today. I am, you know, the world's greatest speaker. Okay, great. If I truly believe that, that's awesome. I gotta act like that thing while the world catches up. But every time that I go up to world's greatest speaker and then my external world doesn't reflect that reality, and then I'm like, oh, maybe I'm not a speaker, boop, my identity drops back down from where it was. So you have to stay in this identity, take the actions, believe you're there, and despite the external world You know, not being there yet, you have to believe that it's— that you're there. And over time, external catches up with you, and it does this through synchronicities, things that happen that you're like, oh, I'm on my path, right? And then eventually, boom, external world meets you, and you are the person that you want to be. I love this. Like, worry is just negative visualization. That's all it is, because you're always creating your reality whether you believe it or not. And worry is one of the most relatable forms of kind of a negative manifestation. Basically, you're thinking negative thoughts about a potential future outcome that you don't want to happen, and you're getting emotionally involved in it by worrying and being anxious. And a lot of times that stuff will happen because you literally thought about it and got emotional about it. So worry is proof that your imagination and emotion are powerful, right? You believe something bad might happen and you feel it. And sometimes it does, right? A lot of times it doesn't, but sometimes it does. So why don't we use the same process for visualizing positive outcomes? Why don't we just daydream about things that— why don't we— I understand why we worry about things that can go wrong. You're kind of protecting yourself in a sense. You're accounting for things that could go wrong. You're preparing yourself, which is important. You should prepare yourself to a certain extent, but you don't need to take it— we take it way too far where it's just consuming our life and bringing down our energy and our vibration. When in reality you can prepare very briefly and be fine and let it go and focus on the positive things about how it could go right and obsess about that. So I think that's just a little exercise, like instead of worrying about whatever is going to happen, why don't I just think about everything that could go right and just fantasize and visualize it going right, visualize everything going right. That's a super powerful technique. We've already talked about visualization. And the power of it. People shooting basketball free throws visualized shooting free throws, and they improved as much as the people physically shooting the free throws. So why are we not— why are we not visualizing our sales calls and visualizing a successful interview and visualizing having this difficult conversation with a spouse or a friend and visualizing it going well and how it's going to go well and all this stuff? Like, why don't those manifest the lives that we want, the stuff we don't want. I use this line all the time: failure is not feedback. Or I'll say failure is just feedback, or failure equals feedback, sorry, not identity. So failure is feedback. It's not final or it's not fatal, just feedback, just data points. Like, like I say, the self-guided missile on its way to its destination, how does it get there? It gets there through what they call— would call negative feedback. Okay, it's shot out of the thing. It goes a little bit too far to the right. It gets an indicator. Oh, I'm too far off to the right. Now it's going to kind of correct course, still going forward. Then it goes too far to the left, gets another signal up too far to the left, and then it's going back and forth. Negative feedback signal, negative feedback signal, negative, right, until it gets to its destination and it reaches the goal and it's a success. But after it had 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15 negative feedback points to get there. Us achieving our goals is no different than that. We're getting these failure points and people take it for, oh, I can't do it. I failed because school conditioned us that if we fail on something, we're a failure as a person. No, you just found out a way in which it didn't work. That's why school is so detrimental, because it teaches you— people are so scared to fail, but that's how you get anywhere. You have to fail forward. You have to fail forward to figure out ways that it didn't work, and then you finally get there. So the quicker you're— the quicker you can develop courage— courage is not the absence of fear, but it's feeling fear and doing it anyways. So the quicker that you can act with courage every single day and chase your inspirations and step out of your shell and be yourself and do the things that you truly want to do in your heart, the quicker you're going to reach your goals, because you're going to realize all the fear and the and stuff, it's all an illusion for one, but that you actually can do it. And as you build that courage muscle, it becomes easier and easier and easier. Like I said, each failure reveals a way not to do something, getting you closer. And then your brain eventually just maps the route to success through trial and error. Now, the beautiful thing is once you figure out how to get to success, right? It's almost like, think about in the dark, okay? Think about in the dark. And you're walking into a room, and initially when you first walk into the room, you're like, you can't see anything, so you're touching all around the room to try to find that light switch. Right, like, where is it? Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. You might hit like 10 different spots before your hand touches that light switch. The second your hand touches that light switch, your brain is just firing and now programs the successful position of your hand when you walk in that door. It knows the light switch is boom, right there. It's not up here, it's not down there, it's not down there, it's boom, it's right here. Now every time you go into that room, it's pitch black, you can pretty much put your hand right on the dang light switch on a room that you're familiar with, 'cause your brain has matched that successful pathway. So once you achieve the successful pathway, your brain's just gonna get there every single time without all the failure points, right? You might have a failure here or there, but not as many. So anytime you're doing something new though, there's gonna be a lot of failure points, 'cause your brain, like your hand groping around in the dark, is trying to figure out where is that success pathway. As soon as it finds it though, it can get there every single time without much failure. So it's the same thing with, like I said, with our goals. You're not a failure, you're collecting feedback to break through. So your rational mind is the gatekeeper, right? Your, your rational mind, or basically your conscious mind, which is the mind that you're aware of, is the gatekeeper. It gets to decide what What thoughts, what emotions do I want to accept as truth? And which ones do you want to accept as truth? The ones that are in alignment with the 2.0 version of yourself as the person you're becoming. Whatever beliefs or emotions or whatever is in alignment with who you're becoming, choose those ones. Your conscious mind is the gatekeeper. Your subconscious mind accepts whatever your conscious mind tells it that is true. Tells it it's true. True. Okay, so that's a beautiful thing. It's a beautiful thing. Every statement, thought, or influence, you get to decide, will I accept this as truth? So once accepted, it programs your self-image and shapes your behavior. So you're the guardian of the gates, right? The Guardian of the Galaxy. So take that responsibility, you know, seriously, because your life— like, like your life depends on it— because your life It depends on it. Captain of your fate, the soul. I don't know what that quote is. Captain of your fate, destiny. Something about the captain of your fate and your soul. You're the master of your fate, the captain of your soul. I think that's what it is. But your conscious mind, right? You're the master of your fate, of your destiny. You're the captain of your soul. Your conscious mind is by choosing these things. So use your logic to set the goal, filter the noise, Deny the false stuff and reprogram your body and mind. That's what this whole, this whole section is about, is about the conscious mind being the gatekeeper, basically the gatekeeper to the thoughts and emotions that you want to reprogram your body with and reprogram your world with and ultimately get new results. So don't blindly accept beliefs, right? You need to interrogate them. So all of your beliefs too, it's not just thoughts and emotions. What do you truly believe? You should be questioning those things. Are they even real? If they're— and whether they're real or not, and you know, everyone kind of creates their own reality, so everyone's reality is different. But the real question is, do these beliefs serve me right now? Do they benefit me? They don't benefit me. Oh, money's hard to get, or I'm never gonna be good at this. Like, if that belief doesn't serve you, then let it go. Why are you fighting for your limitations? Why would you do that? Why would you do that? Don't do that. Let them go and choose beliefs that are going to get you to where you want to go. It's not delusion, that's just creation, right? No matter how far that is away from where you are now in the quantum field, if your awareness can be placed on something, it's a possibility. There's infinite possibilities. So super important thing: replace outdated programming with thoughts that serve your future self. We talked about whoever you want to be, your thoughts and emotions should align with that. Use emotion plus visualization to anchor your beliefs, to really get that belief ingrained into your body, your conscious and your subconscious. You gotta not only think it, but you gotta feel it. And you do that through visualization a lot too. Okay, question your beliefs, but also visualize. And not only think about it and see it, but feel what it's like to be there in the Feeling is what reprograms your, your body into this new belief. Let your rational mind guide the what, right? What you want, and your subconscious will figure out the how, how it comes. That is it. All the peace, all the power, folks. We'll see you next video.
