Jake Burhans explains how chronic worry works like a drug addiction: each anxious thought triggers stress chemicals your body craves as its baseline. Breaking the cycle means catching negative thoughts, releasing them, and deliberately choosing peace instead, which rewires your neurochemical pattern over time.

You are chemically addicted to worrying and you don't even know it. You think fear, doubt, worry, anger over and over again. You're not just thinking thoughts, you're chemically conditioning your body to the signature of that emotion. Every thought that you think and put energy behind fires certain neurotransmitters in your brain, which releases neuropeptides, which are chemical signatures that activate certain hormonal cells in the body and make you feel emotion. Your mind starts worrying again, and not because anything's wrong, but because it's craving the chemical state that it's used to. This is why you can't just be happy or confident and have it stick. The moment you stop feeding your body those stress chemicals, it panics, sends a message up to the brain and says, "Hey, something is wrong." Over time, your body begins to adapt and it learns that new emotional state as its baseline. And this is how you literally become chemically addicted to your emotions. Every thought, every emotion that's programmed is a drop in the bucket of your new identity. Eventually you put enough drops in the bucket, you have a new baseline state of being. Key then becomes every time you notice a negative thought or negative emotion, you recognize it, you let it go, and you choose an empowering one. And every time you choose a new thought of peace, love, joy, abundance, you're sending a new chemical signature to the body and you're literally retraining your body to a new baseline. Follow for more on how to reprogram your identity and build a life from peace instead of pressure.
