Janet Macaluso shows how to build self-managing capacity by working with energy across mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual domains. She demonstrates HeartMath-style heart rate variability exercises that take 1 to 10 minutes and produce measurable coherence, calmer decisions, and resilience.

The second point on the hexad here is called build self management capacity. Self managing capacity or capability is to build a strong, imperturbable container. It's to develop a state of being, an inner wisdom and a focus on a meaningful purpose so that we're mastering.
Any reactivity or acting from an ego.
Or actually managing our energy drains that drain us from doing that really good work that we want to do in.
The world, whatever the effect happens to be.
And I look at energy as mental energy, physical energy, emotional and spiritual energy.
This is not about building a bigger.
Toolbox and more stuff filled in it.
Or gaining book knowledge at the expense.
Of being on autopilot.
And we all know people who are.
And here's just a video of a picture of something that I use called.
Heart math where we take an instrument and we look at our heart rate. Is it coherent or is our heart rate variability incoherent? And the more coherent on the right.
Hand side that we can make our.
Heart rate variability in a very short.
Time on the go types of practices, not something where we have to go sit on the couch and on a meditation cushion. Although that's wonderful. I'm teaching practices that we can use on the go.
And then that heart rate variability that.
Is more coherent is sending signals to the brain so that we can think more Clearly.
Here are three snippets from my phone.
Within a 10 minute period. The first one you can see 13:26, that's 1:26.
And the circle shows that with the.
Red it's that I started out not in the coherent zone, but 1327.
One minute later you see on the.
Left hand side there's this more blue.
I'm getting more coherent in just this.
One minute of practice. And then the final snippet from my phone is 10 minutes. Just 10 minutes later, I've gotten myself into a coherent state where I'm able to make better decisions and be calmer and more resilient in just 10 minutes.
So just think about, you know, I.
Do these on the go in a meeting. No one needs to know.
Just think about this.
Changing the way that we react to just misplacing the.
Our keys can transform our lives.
And my joke here is, coming from Boston is you might want to say.
I lost my khakis.
Okay?
That's what it means coming from Boston. My khakis, khakis, car keys.
Okay, I've learned a little bit.
So back to more serious stuff though.
It's gaining responsibility and realizing, ah, anger has come to visit me. I don't have to become angry.
But I know that it's upon me.
And then I can do something about it. Perhaps this heart math that you'd learn.
So again, it's all about building internal.
Capacity so that we can do more, Be more, be happier and more resilient in the world.
For ourselves and for our beloveds. See you next time.
