Janet Macaluso argues that navigating today's complex, chaotic systems requires less reliance on procedures and more on inner resilience and awareness. She contrasts simple linear work with genuinely complex contexts where no playbook exists, using coaching examples to show how mindset shifts help people adapt.

We've gone from kind of simple linear A to B to complicated. And now we're in total either chaos or complexity. And there is no playbook or textbook that people can go to to find their answer. Now it's your state of being. And so for you, in talking about, you know, all the logistics of traveling and things that you have to do with, your state of being is not consistent or coherent with the you have to do, which is design. And so that's what I talk a lot about with the people I'm working with now, is are you using an old paradigm that you're not even aware of, a way of thinking that now we're in this world of complexity. And it's about your state of being and your inner resilience, becoming aware of that, that will make you do better and think better.
