Most people think luck is random. They're wrong. Here's how you increase your luck. The secret doesn't involve leprechauns or any crossing of the fingers. It's a concept called luck surface area. Once you embrace the concept, you'll start getting luckier with everything from your career to dating. Here's how it works. Remember the concept of surface area back in school? The amount of area on the face of a cube or whatever? Well, the same thing applies for business. It's a simple numbers game. Let's take it to NBA. Let's say you have two NBA sharpshooters. The player who shoots a basket 500 times will get more shots in than the player who just shoots a basket 10 times. They had a higher luck surface area. And we see the same thing in business. Let's say you have two equally skilled entrepreneurs. The entrepreneur who sends 500 cold messages to potential customers will get more replies than the entrepreneur who sent 10 cold messages. He had a higher luck surface area. This luck surface area is also why it pays to make a ton of content. There will be some failures, but the more content you make, the higher the surface area in making some great content that really takes off. Of course, you have to balance quality and quantity, but you cannot forget that there is a certain quality in quantity. Here, look at my chart of my Twitter growth this year. You can see it moves in steps. I don't grow for 3 months, then I grow 2,000 in a day. I don't grow much for a few months, then I grow again. It's because every day I'm putting out content and increasing the luck surface area. If you're serious about growing on a social platform, you should do the same. In the words of Michael Scott, who stole the words from Wayne Gretzky, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. So get out there, take some shots, and increase your luck surface area.
