Three people debate whether "midget" is as offensive as the N-word. One recalls not understanding why it was slur until corrected. Another cites a John Mulaney bit comparing them. The third argues the terms aren't equivalent and have different historical weight.
The moment that I realized that I was not woke is I called somebody a midget and then somebody's like, don't you mean a small person? I was like, no, I mean a midget, bro. Like, what are you talking about? It screwed me up so hard. I'm not doing that.
Okay, I think the thing is, why is the word midget offensive? This is John Mulaney bit. He met someone who said saying the word midget is as bad as saying the N-word.
And he said, no, midget is as bad as the N-word. 'First off, no. Do you know how I know it's not?' I said to him. 'We're saying the word midget and we're not even saying what the N-word is.' It's definitely not as bad.
