Michael Cross, a University of South Florida professor, worked with realtor Jay Quigley to find a home after his faculty term ended. Jay listened carefully, used spreadsheets to track requests, and repeated back what Michael needed to make sure he understood. Michael says Jay cares about building community, not just closing deals.

Hi, my name is Michael Cross. I'm an associate professor of instruction at the University of South Florida. I also run a small biotech where I aim to become the Bruce Wayne of biotech. So I had lived on campus at the University of South Florida for about 5 years as a faculty-in-residence, and my term was up, and so I needed to find myself a place to live. My specific needs had to do with the location. There are very few locations that would have worked for me in Tampa. At the time, the market was really, really hot, and so I decided to work with Jay because I had some unique circumstances with my children and the location that I needed to live in, and I was looking for someone with experience in the Tampa Bay region and who was local. You know, the— I found the definition of humility comes from Leonard Sacks. He's an American psychologist and physician, uh, that, that is being as interested in others as you are Of yourself, and Jay epitomizes that. He took the time to listen to me. I shopped around several realtors. He was the one who heard what I had to say when I came into the office. He was very responsive to that, had spreadsheets all over the table. I know that's not for everyone, but it was definitely for me. And so he heard whatever I said and responded to that. Jay takes the time— took the time to listen to me, and I don't mean hear what I had to say and then respond. He actually repeated back what I was asking, made sure he understood what I needed. And he did that consistently. When we'd go out to homes, we did some home inspections, he would take some time to learn a little bit more about who I am, about my kids, to truly understand my needs. Not merely for the sake of, I need to get this transaction done, but he genuinely wanted to understand me and who I was. I would highly recommend Jay. I'm building the community I want my children to grow up in. And I believe that comes from working with the people who are also doing that. And Jay is certainly someone that I would trust with advancing the goals of this community, building this community. So I highly recommend working with him.
