1996 || Discussion of Kṛṣṇa's Pastimes with Devotees #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

This is a 1996 recorded talk by Jaya Pataka Swami explaining the identities and roles of Balarama (Sankarshana/Ananta) and Krishna. It describes theological claims that Balarama is the plenary expansion who supplies spiritual strength and acts as Adi-guru, narrates Vrindavan pastimes (cowherd life, hidden expansions of Krishna manifesting as calves and friends), and retells episodes such as the transfer of Balarama to Rohini, the conception/birth of Krishna, and the killing of the demon Pralambasura. The talk emphasizes the primacy of devotional love and Balarama’s merciful role in granting devotion to Krishna.
When Devaki became pregnant for the seventh time, a plenary expansion of Krishna known as Ananta appeared within her womb. Deva Ki was overwhelmed with jubilation and lamentation. She was joyful for she could understand that Lord Vishnu had taken shelter in her womb. At the same time she was very sorry that soon her child would come out would kill him. At that time the supreme personality of Namyata Ka, being compassionate upon the fearful condition of the Yadus due to atrocities committed by Kamika ordered the appearance of his Yoga mind for his internal potency. Krishna is the Lord of the universe and he is the special Lord of the Yagu dynasty. So then the Lord declared to Yoga Maya that his plenary expansion Mantisesha was within the womb of Devaki on account of being forcibly attracted to the womb of bohemians. He would be known as Sankarshana and would be the source of all spiritual power or Vala by which one could be able to attain the highest bliss of life which is known as Ramana. Therefore, the plenary portion Ananta would be known after his appearance either as Sankarshana or as Balarama. Balarama Ki Jain the purport is one cannot attain supreme platform of self realization without being sufficiently favored by Balarama. We want to make spiritual dance and we need the mercy of Balarama. Bala does not mean physical stick. One can attain spiritual perfection. One cannot. No one can attain spiritual perfection by physical strength. One must have the spiritual strength which is infused by Balarama or Sankarshana, Ananta or Seisha. It's the power which sustains all the planets. All the planets in their different positions. Materially. This sustaining power is known as the law of gravitation. But actually it is the display of the potency of Sankhasha. Sankhsha is keeping all the planets in orbit around the sun. This is his special potency. So Balaram is spiritual power or the original spiritual master. Balaram is the original Guru Adi Guru, the spiritual master is the representative of Balarama, the supreme personality of Godheads who supplies spiritual strength in the Caitanya Charamida. It is confirmed that the spiritual master is the manifestation of the mercy of Ka. What is the Guru sensation and Balaramians? So Yoga Maya got her orders. So she transferred Balara from the womb of Delaki to the womb of Drainu. Then he was born from Rohini but he's actually the little brother. So when this happened, all of a sudden Devaki was pregnant and she no longer had any baby. Instead Rahimi had But she was somewhere far away in Brunavan. So everyone thought Nadevaki lost her child. Miscarriage. So though Balaram appeared as the son of Baek, he was transferred to the womb Avrahimi to appear as her son. Then Ka entered into the mind of Astudeva. To the heart of Astudeva. Heart of Deva. King to the womb of Deva. This is Krishala. You understand? Supreme Lord Krishna. He appeared and one year before him appeared. Well around his first expansion. It is called Soyam Kokash. His original expansion of Krishna. He has a very special position. Krishna expands to Balaram. And from Balaram comes other expansion. From him come the fourth called Chakur Buha. So they're all coming from Balaram. Then from them comes Narayana. Vasudev Narayana. Like this, so many forms. Now Balaram, he's responsible to keep the universe running. All universes keep everything going up. He's kind of like you don't say CEO, Chief Executive Officer. Krishna is the chairman. He's a panel authority. But that he keeps himself free to have pastimes with his devotees. Ka is playing with his devotees in so many ways. So when the Lord Brahma came, he stole all his calves and cows and put them inside a cave. Then Krishna immediately manifested new cats and new cowherd boys from himself. Looking exactly like the ones that were stolen. So nobody could tell the difference. Nobody thought that there was any missing person. This way Krishna became a son of all the elderly cowherd families. Because now it was not their son who was going from their house, but it was Krishna who took the form of their son. And all the cows, all their calves are also Ka. So it says. Actually during that year Nana Muni came and suggested to Nanda Mahars that you should get all the little gopis married to the convert boys. So they were all married in a big ceremony. Because in those days in India there was always a marriage from childhood. Actually everyone was married to Krishna because Krishna was the cowherd voice. That's why everyone felt that Krishna is my husband. Jiva Goswami brings the point out. Some kind of people say that Ka, how can he associate? They are not his wife, but they are actually Balaram. He is observing so many things going on. One day the calves got loose from the cowherd boys and they went and they drank all the milk from the cow. All the cows. So because they're drinking the milk, they won't get any milk in the evening. So the coward man ran the chastise the voice. What you're doing the Balaram is watching what's going on. And what happened was something unusual. The elderly cowherd men, having obtained great feeling from embracing their son gradually and with great difficulty and reluctance ceased embracing them and returned to the forest. But as the men remembered their sons, tears began to flow from their eyes. Because of an intense increase of affection, the cows had constant attachment even to those calves that were grown up and had stopped sucking milk from their mothers. When Balaramdev saw this attachment, he was unable to understand the reason for it. Thus he began to consider as follows. What is this wonderful phenomenon? The affliction of all the inhabitants, including me, toward these boys and calves is increasing as never before. Just like our affection for Lord Krishna, the super soul of all living entities. Everyone naturally feels attraction for Ka, especially in Braj, because they're all pure devotees. But he's seeing that this attraction is now coming for all these coward boys. So why is that? Something mysterious is happening. What is the mystery? So he said, who is this mystic power? Where has she come from? Is she a demigod or a diminutive? She must be the alluring energy of my master Lord Krishna. For who else can bewilder me? Subalam. He was surprised. Extraordinary show of affection. Something mystical. At first he thought maybe it's some kind of Rakshasi mind. Then how can Rakshasimaya have effect on me? On God? It can't be that. Then it must be Krishna's Maya. Krishna's illusory potency. Since it was arranged by Ka. Krabhada also checked its mystic power in this way. Then he understood all these cowboys and cow herb and the cow calves were Ka. Thinking this way, Lord Balara was able to see with the eyes of transcendental knowledge that all these calves and Krishna's friends were expansions of the form of Sri Krishna. Lord Bala Dev said, O Supreme Controller, these boys are not great danigars as I previously thought nor are these calves great sages like Narada. Now I can see that you alone are manifesting yourself. Yet all varieties are different. Although one, you are existing in different forms of the cabs and boys. Please briefly explain this to me. Having thus been requested by Lord Bala Neva, Ka explained the whole situation and Bala Neva understood. So only Krishna's mystical power can get by Balaram. He knew something was happening, something mystical. But what? If you think about it for a minute, what's going on here? Then he could figure it out that it was actually Krishna he was manifesting as all the counterpoise. So this Para he has a special role. So sometimes from the whole universe. When Krishna he passes out in separation. Radharani goes in Mahabhav. Then Krishna is. Then she goes unconscious. Then Krishna goes unconscious. But then Krishna goes unconscious. Everything freezes. I just saw this pastime showing a drama in Russia. I wanted to tell them that when Krishna was unconscious, everybody should have boasted. They didn't have everybody, Priest. Because Krishna is my consciousness of everyone. But he goes uncatches. Everybody is except Balaram. Balaram is the only one who is still conscious. He has to find out where Krishna is and get him back awake. So he's in a very special position. That way, otherwise the Krishna doesn't have to worry that the Bhagavad passes on. Everything stops forever. So he gives that delegate that rolls to Balaram. So Balaram is always watching all Krishna. He's the big brother. Once you're writing Mishrila Prabhupada. You're writing Mishrila Prabhupada in a car to my airport. And on his with the dashboard. He'd always keep the picture of Krishna. Mona. So he asks is a cart windshield. We have Krishna Balaram picture Vrindavan. Krishna Balaram. Do you know how Krishna Balaram how they sing? Krishna is playing the fruit or holding something. And then Balaram has hand on the shoulder. Balaram has hand on the shoulder. So Prabhupada asks that Balaram. He's making all the universes. He's holding up all the universes. So who is more powerful? Bauram or Krishna? He's also a bigger brother. So he asked and Sancho was a tricky question service. He has borrowed his big brother. He's stronger. Krishna is stronger. So he's holding up all around. Besides holding. Balaram admits that his love is always increasing for Krishna. Supreme personality of Godhead. The different expansions. But they are feeling so much love for the devotees. Expansion of your love for Krishna. Very interesting. Now you can see that in the spiritual world love is making go round. They say love makes the world go round. Some people say money makes the world go round. But the real love that we see in a spiritual console on it. Oh yes. He's asking Saint pastor. Saint Pastor. Yeah. So many. The dish to put out the forest fire. I see in the world today. So many forest fires in Australia, near Sydney. They had a big fire in California, a number of places around the world and Europe. It was very dry, no rain and fire started. So they had a completely burnt stone houses. And we said here there was a huge forest Fire. But the Vajrasis I didn't feel any kind of inconvenient. Krishna he saw, he sucked in all the fire. But he was just a little boy. He was so much imagination. What really happened, right? The summer season. India is not very much welcome because of the excessive heat. But in Vanava everyone was pleased because summer there appeared just like spring. This was possible only because Ka and Balaram were the controllers even of Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva for residing there. In Vrindavan there are many falls which are always pouring water. The sound is so sweet that it covers the sound of the kitchen. Because water flows all over the forest always looks very green and beautiful. Now when you go to Vrindavan, you don't see all this water. Because the Kali Yuga, the Rajasthan desert has approached and things are much too dry and arid. For 5,000 years it went sometime this was beautiful. Flowers, streams, waterfall. So the inhabitants they were not disturbed by the scorching heat. In the high summer, Ka, the reserved pleasure of blowing his flute, accompanied by his elder brother Balaram and other counted boys and cows entered the beautiful forest of Vrindava to enjoy the atmosphere. They walked in the midst of duly grown leaves of trees with flowers. They were garlanded by those flowers decorated with saffron chalk. Sometimes they were dancing and singing and sometimes resting with one another. Krishna danced. Some of the cowherd boys sang and others played on the flutes, some bugle and buffalo horns and clapped their hands praising Krishna. Dear brother, you are dancing very nicely. All these boys are devas descended from higher planets to assist Krishna in his pastimes. The devas garbage and dress of the Calvin boys for encouraging Krishna's dancing. This is one artist encourages loving and praise. Up to that time they live all around North Korea undergoing a hair cutting ceremony. Therefore their hair was clustered like crow's feathers. They were always playing hide and seek with their boyfriends or jumping or fighting with one another. Sometime while his friends were chanting and dancing, Krishna would pray, said my dear friends, you are dancing and singing very nicely. The boys played a catching ball with fruits such as BAAL and Amalaki. They played blind man's bluff, challenging and touching one another. Sometimes they imitated the forest deer and various kinds of birds. They joked with one another by imitating croaking frogs and they enjoyed swinging underneath the trees. Sometimes they would play like a king and his subject among themselves. In this way, Balaram and Krishna along with all their friends played all kinds of sports and enjoyed the soothing atmosphere of Vriddhavana. Full of rivers, lakes, rivulets, fine trees and excellent fruits and flowers. Once, while they were engaged in their transcendental pastimes, a great demon of the name Pralambha Asura entered their company desiring to kidnap both Balaram and Ka. Although Ka was playing the part of a coward boy as the supreme person of God and he could understand everything, past, present and future. So when Pralambasura entered their company, Ka began to think how to kill the beavers. But externally he received him as a friend. O my dear friend, he said, it's very good that you have come to take part in our past times. Sri Krishna says Jitman Krapa Jatita as you approach him, so he reciprocates. Columbusor was playing with him that I'm a cowherd boy for the purpose of killing Kaolara. So Krishna said okay, accepted him as a coward boy for the purpose of killing him. Krishna then called all his friends and ordered him, now we shall play in pairs. We shall challenge one another in pairs. With this proposal, all the boys assembled together. Some of them took the side of Ka and some of them took the side of all around and they arranged to play in duel. The defeated members in duel fighting had to carry the victorious members on their backs. They began playing and at the same time tended the cows as they proceeded through the Bandiravana forest. The party of Balaram, accompanied by Sri Rama came out victorious and Krishna's party had to carry them on their backs to the Bandiravana forest. The supreme personality Godhead, being defeated, had to carry Sri Rama on his back and Bhadrasena carried Vrishava, imitating their plague. Palumbasura, who appeared there as a cowherd boy, carried Balaram on his back. Palambasur was carrying Balaram on the back, but he was in the form of a cowherd boy was the greatest of the demons and he had calculated that Ka was the most powerful of the cowherd boys. In order to avoid the company of Kaalambasura carried Balara far away. The demon was undoubtedly very strong and powerful, but he was carrying Balram was compared to a mountain. Therefore he began to feel the burden. Thus he assumed his real form. When he appeared in his real feature, he was decorated with a golden helmet and earrings that looked just like a cloud with lightning carrying the moon. Balaram observed the demon's body expanding up to the limits of the clouds, his eyes dancing like blazing fire and his mouth flashing with sharpened teeth. At first Balaram was surprised by the demon's appearance. He began to wonder how is it that all of a sudden this carrier has changed in this every way. With a clear mind, he could quickly understand that he was being carried away from his friends by a demon who intended to kill him immediately. He struck the head of the demon with a strong fist. Pow. Just as the king of the heavenly planet strikes him out with his thunderbolt. Being stricken by the fist of Balaram, the demon fell down dead. Just like a snake with a smashed head. Blood poured from his mouth. When the demon fell, he made a tremendous sound and it sounded as if a great hill were falling apart. Being struck by the thunderbolt of Indra. All the boys then rushed to the squash, being astonished by the ghastly scene. They began to praise Balara with the words well done. Well done. Very good. All of them began to embrace Balaram with great affection, thinking that he had returned from death. And they offered their blessings and congratulations. All the Nevas of the heavenly planets became very satisfied. With showered flowers on the Tsenal body of Balaram. They also offered their blessings and tranquilizations. For as having killed a great demon, Pelumbas was. We were having this. We did the. We had a big taste of a demon on a clay pot inside. We filled it with posada of sweets. Then over the main gate we had. This was held by ropes. People were pulling, swinging and some devotees would put blindfold through the stick. They tried to hit each other that way. If it hit them. That's quite. That was Lampasura. They were in the mood of Balarampas. Cowherd boys helping Balarampas really had a lot of fun. They went to wonder why he lost his bearing when he hit the stick on somebody's head. Didn't do that since then. Finally, when he broke them, it all fell down on him. And everybody jumped on me at the sweet thinking. How to celebrate these pastimes. Because it's very interesting this also to this week. I thought we were going to have a swing here. We could go. It's a swing festival. How come you don't have a swing? We have kids. It's upstairs. The swing's upstairs. Nice here. Really? The swing is upstairs? Yes. You took it down? Would you like me to bring it down? Well, we didn't do any swinging. No. You've been doing these days? No. From the Qarasi till tomorrow. Purim. Five days July. Then of course, after eight days. After tomorrow we'll meet your master. I thought they were going to do it at Radcliffe. Everybody come out and pray. What is the nice interactive? There are more things for the people to do. Anyway, the thing is this relationship between Balaram and Krishna is very unique. Although he is the supreme Lord, but he also sees Krishna as a younger brother. Actually he loves Krishna. It's not a dry person thing. They love each other. When Gauranga and Nithyananda met each other for the first time, there was so much ecstasy. Nithyananda was hiding, but only where Chitanya could find her. He came into the house of Nandanachari. And then he said they ran to each other. They embrace. Tears are pouring from the eyes. So much tension. Bliss. You can imagine how much love and affection they're having. So spontaneous. Western religions don't know what to think about. God is very fearsome. People fear God. God fearing people. Maybe sometimes the Lord is should fear a little bit. If they don't love, they should fear. But best is to love. You love God. You don't want to do anything that he doesn't like. If you love him, you don't want to displease him. But actually the spiritual world, everything is running by the love. And Balaram also. It's first person showing loving devotion for Krishna. He's teaching us how to serve Krishna. He's our guru. He gives that love of Krishna, gives that devotion to others. We can pray on the eve of his appearance that we can get love for Krishna. Hare Krishna Hare. Hare Hare. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel. We publish new videos every day. And don't forget to like and share our channel.
