19961030+31 || Bhagavad Gītā and Śrīmad Bhāgavatam Class || New Vṛndāvana, West Virginia, USA

Oral lecture (recorded as a YouTube class) presenting devotional-VAishnava exegesis of the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: the speaker emphasizes Krishna as the supreme personal Absolute (distinct from impersonal Brahman), the importance of undivided devotional service (bhakti) and practical sadhana (studying Gītā and Bhāgavatam, chanting, deity worship). The talk interweaves scriptural stories (liberation of tree-demons, Satya Tapas and apsarās, Indra and Govardhan) with personal anecdotes about Śrīla Prabhupāda's travels and public receptions, and stresses transforming false ego (I am this body) into the real spiritual identity (eternal servant of Krishna).
The word now used repeatedly in a previous verse indicates that one should not be very much proud of such credentials as academic education. Vedic Literature One must take to the devotional service of Ka. Only then can one attempt to write commentaries. In Bhagavad Gita, Krishna changes from universal form to the four heavenly form of Narayana and then to his then to his own natural form of two hands. This indicates that the four headed forms and other forms mentioned in the Vedic literature of all emanations of the original true hand of Krishna, he is the origin of all emanations. Krishna is distinct from these forms. Not to speak of the impersonal conception. As far as the forehand with forms of which I can serve has stated clearly that even the most identical four handed form of Krishna, which is known as Maha Vishnu who is lying in the cosmic ocean and from whose breathing so many luminal universes are passing, passing out and entering, is also an expansion of the supreme war. The state of Ramasan Guru Bhuttisakshine I offer my respectful visas under Krishna where it's a transcendental form of bliss, eternity and knowledge. I offer my respect to him because understanding him means understanding the Vedas and he is therefore the supreme spiritual master. Then it is said Krishna Paramantai Vadam Krishna is the supreme personality. Krishna is one, but he has manifested unlimited forms and expanded incarnations. The supreme personality of guiding is Krishna and who has a who has a body of eternity, knowledge and bliss. He has no beginning for he is the beginning of everything. He is the cause of all causes. Therefore to say Yadra Vatiram Krishnakyam Param Brahmara Kriti the supreme absolute Truth is a person. His name is Krishna and sometimes he descends on the earth. In this universal form chapter the impersonalists may like to read their own reports or their own commentaries into it. The Hare Krishna is the universal form in my body. They tried to say that Ka is only the born of goodness. The personal truth comes in the form of goodness. Practice regulation the Prabhupada is shown here. So many different references of how Ka is not the moral premise, but Krishna is Satirana Vigraha. In fact, in the last verse of the 14th chapter, Krishna also states Brahman I am the basis of the universal Brahmana. So this is very crucial that the Lord is understanding Krishna's divine condition and not getting stuck. Doesn't have to take a material form. When he comes in his own spiritual form, he's not limited by his own nature. This is very Important that listeners understand Krishna is one absolute truth that he has manifested himself in some beautiful forms. So many different incarnations. So this is very bewildering to most people. The more impersonal it is, the easier it is for them to understand. And the more personal the absolute truth, personal qualities that reveal. It becomes more difficult for people to understand because of all the conditioning. So here Bharopada is like we have so many references to show how Ka is the origin of all the devas. Krishna is the origin of the impersonal Rama. Krishna is in so many different ways. It's so source of all great acknowledge. Prabhupada is making it very difficult for people to misunderstand. Still innocent people when they read this, they can understand them very clearly with sometimes unscrupulous commentators. They just say anything they want, whether it really makes any, whether it's authorized by the scripture or not. I'm just creating something. Even on the Vikrant, all the areas that mentions that Krishna is having such transcendence. This is very important because the whole process of Bhakti Yoga means that we're taking shelter of Krishna and we need to understand how Ka is translation transcendental to the modes of nature. Therefore, by taking Sultan Krishna, our position is very silent. I was told that some years ago there was the earthquake here. This floor and all earth was like in waves. Who was here during the earthquake? Anybody. Was the earth a very solid place to stand on at that moment. Now you're taking shelter of the earth depending on. But at that time even the earth became fluid. So the tendency is not to take shelter Ka, but to take shelter in other things. But the actual solution to all the problems is to take shelter in Ka. Even if we cannot understand a little bit about Ka consciousness. Second, bring us the greatest benefits. In the glories of the different chapters of the Bhagavad Gita mentioned the Padma Purana. It explains how there was a couple of Brahman devotees, but they were very had become very negligent of their Ka consciousness and their spiritual life. And they didn't practice much, but somehow they were traveling around to see different places. So one day they in their travel, they took rest and sat for the rest of the day under a very big tree. They didn't know that that tree actually was haunted. It was filled with so many subtle entities. And they were just relaxing there. And then the wife asked her husband, what is the purpose of life? Why are we here? Why are we forced to suffer if we don't want to who are we identity? The Lord of the family of the Lord is taken pain from them. But the husband, he wanted to kind of show off that he knew a lot. So he had memorized the first half of the eighth on the first verse of the eighth chapter of the Bible. So then she kind of showed off to his wife that he knew a lot and just quoted that half verse King Khat Brahma which means the water, sea. What is Brahman? What is the absolute truth? King of Karma? What is the self King Karma, Purushottama and what are the activities? No sooner did he say these verses, this half verse in the Bhagavad Gita than all the ghosts that were in the tree they became free from their bad karmas and the tree. When the ghosts were liberated, the tree also fell down. And in front of their eyes they could see all the ghosts cut spiritual bodies and they could go with Vishnu Duttas back to the spiritual. So then Brahman and his wife were very surprised. You know, this kind of. He was like showing off right along half a verse of tree falls the ghost get liberated. So then he became very faithful. And then half a verse of the Bhagavad Gita every day he began to chant King Dand Brahma, King of Garma, King Karma Bhushodama, King Dandruh, King of Karma, King Karma Bhushodama. Like this, he was chanting like a mantra every day, hours. And this is going on years became this very silent. I worked in Italy on the ghost, which Rama was saying one time the Lord's desire. One day actually looking at Saint Narayana was just like chuckling. Why are you laughing? I said what are you smiling? And what? Well, there's this one Brahmin in the planet of Varun Moshe and the universe of the forehead of your mind. Every day he's chanting his half a version of Bhagavad Gita. I'm just thinking, what can I do? What can I reward him? What will be appropriate? So then he brought that Brahmana to liberated from the material language and brought to you even a little depending on half date, half verse and sometimes to deliver one to the supreme destination. If we know the old chapters of the Bhagavad Gita, this is very meditation. Taking time to regularly study the Bhavna Mukita. Then we become very clear about who Krishna is, who we are, what is God. All these questions are answered. Recently came back from India in Boston was arriving so many devotees from the whole east coast and they get few from the west, but who can afford to fly? But especially all the devotees on the east coast of Canada and America. They were there. We came down from Toronto. There was a very big reception. Hundreds of the Lord is in the airport. Everyone was hearing at that time they had purchased a building in Boston which had established the ISKCON Press previously was a funeral home which normally went on to buy for other purposes. But the devotees had purchased the lift that used to carry the coffins to the basement. Wherever they. I don't know if I know. Imagine what they visited here. That was. Prabhupada wrote on that to go down and see the crescent. What's the name of disciple right here? Church of the Press. That was the president of Toronto Association. We were all waiting for Prabhupada to arrive and someone told us that he's arrived, he's there. But we couldn't see Prabhupada customs enclosure because they had put some screens and screens that were on the stands so you couldn't see what's going on there. You could see people's feet a little bit. And you could see that the screen weren't so high. They were about six feet high. So raised your hand over them. So then someone was saying that I don't know if you could see the feet. All I remember was Drover lifted his hand with his beads above the swing of the moon. His hand was the disciple. And devotees just exploded, jumping up and down. One devotee hit another devotee with his cartons in the head right here. And the clock was pouring. But that devotee didn't even feel it was quite impressed, you know, that somebody would be so ecstatic that they're bleeding. They don't even know it. When they wrote the article, it was sincerely impressed that this is something extraordinary. Then after some time, this kirtan was going on right in the airport. And after some time it GOP had to. He came out of the door. And then immediately all of the Lord is hit the deck. You know, they all offered their nuisances. And so they're just a newspaper man and the television and other passengers and people waiting, standing there. So many devotees fill up. This whole temple packed up. And then Prabhupada was escorted to a little bit away from the doorway. And he sat down and then they offered him a guru puja. And everybody came up and offered the garlands. All the garlands came here to take it. I mean, it's the media. People never saw anything like that before. What's going on after The Guru Puja talked a short talk. He was saying maybe he was sensing that the media confusion over how so much powers and things could be offered to someone. They said the Guru is like a representative of the Lord. He's an ambassador of the Lord. In this way he's offered all kinds of respect like we were offered to Krishna. Then he explained there God is still God. But if there's someone, if there's a guru who understands he's servant of God, then everything is perfect. But if he thinks that he is God, then he is not God. He is the reverse. He's dog. He's not God, he's a dog. He was stressing this point that we see in this verse. We can't be the servant of the Lord. We can never be the Lord and study the teachings of Vrishn. So proverbs when the teachings of Lord Krishna and two kinds. One is Marav Gita which is spoken by Ka and the other Srimad Ragavutam which is spoken about Krishna. So these books are the most important books. And the grandpa was reading. I was curious what book he was reading. He was very ecstatically reading and I was silent. He was reading the Bhagavad Gita and he stressed all the devotees need to study the Bhagavad Gita. In fact, when I was uninitiated and drawn by the working model that he wanted to get initiated, we actually to read the Bhagavad Gita 10 times and the Srimad Bhagavata from first canto 3 times. Then only would we be considered for initiation. Now most people are covered for initiation and sometimes it's got to be worth it. By what Gita is not confusing people come in your Brahmin and and breath him three times. Prabhupada was stressing that we had to really know about what gta. It raised the question what's the difference between the universal form between Ka and the Kundramana? Remember when Maya pray when the Lodhi came up in Ezra open for second initiation. Brahman we call Brahman initiation. So then Prabhupada asked him to exclaim what is Brahmana? And the devotee was like taken aback and never expected that Prabhupada was going to ask him questions what is the Brahmana? And he didn't know what to say to that question. And then Prabhupada really shy looked at him and said you want to be a Brahman and you don't know what is Brahman. You are not qualified. You can probably be a Brahman. You don't even know what is Brahman with that I was really impressed at how Brahman his followers are. I also know the scripture and to apply that very important verses because these are the basis on which we can explain to other people we cannot know Krishna as he is perfectly accept through devotional service. And also if people don't understand Krishna the solution is you have to engage in devotional service Otherwise Krishna is very difficult to understand Only by undivided devotional services understood as I am standing before you that can thus be seen directly Only in this way can you enter into the mysteries of my understanding in normally it was very difficult to get through pure devotional service Undivided devotional service. Krishna didn't give to everyone even Narada Muni when he was borrowed flame Judas here and how you are so fortunate the Lord is your friend. He comes and he does even does errands for you like an email servant that's your messenger or your chariot driver, your protector the Lord he doesn't give his own devotion so easily. Liberation material benefits very easy to give because there's no ongoing commitment. But if someone fully takes shelter of the Lord and the Lord reciprocates the see those who take full shelter of the Lord usually they can get this devotion but here Lord Chaitanya he's giving out the devotion of Hindu Therefore he saw as the most beneficent of all the Any questions? Well, after a wonderful festival I was fortunate to participate here in Los Angeles festival and probably then I was in Europe for a number of festivals and of course the most significant one apart from the one in rapidation 750 devotees in pool operation the biggest one was in Moscow and the 25th anniversary there were thousands and thousands of devotees and guests. It rented a stadium hall into our state like a hall and a big auditorium and a balcony had a capacity of this set about 4,500 and it was full and in the morning Shamra Sundar there's a special guest speaker up in the Marjan he told the story about Prabhupada's week in Moscow. Blow by blow on little details then one after another all the devotees that were there told different kind of chronological story of what happened through the whole Soviet thing. It was very moving for me but how profile I was. After he met Professor Kutask we reached a dead end because it wasn't really helping us was to be the biggest endologist in Western so we knew him that time so Prabhupada was like pent up, kind of like a lion, almost discipled, caged in hotels, couldn't do any preaching, couldn't talk to anybody. Anxious to preach this, praying how to deliver these people. You go out for the morning walk and that's where you get this picture of his walking risk manner places. And he saw that the police were on the churches so the people wouldn't go inside, the guardians and Shimon would go inside. And then Prabhupada was saying that he told Shamma Sunni, these people actually religious people are supposed to be churches and they're being prohibited. He said, Within 20 years this regime will fall. This government can't pass. It was 1971 and many things, I can't remember all things, but Hashem Senza from Muse went out. He got permission to cook for Prabhupada in the maid's kitchen on the same floor of the hotel. He was there in a special pass, he had to stay in the hotel. So he went out to do the Shabbat. There was a big store, but nothing was there. All the shelves are empty. But they could find a little bit of rice for one Korea and he could get some milk, but he couldn't get much else. So he came back. And then. So they had problem. They was pretty hungry. They said, oh, let's eat sweet rice and my milk and rice and it's a sweet rice. So they prepared the sweet rice, but there was no sweetening because the sugar wasn't no magnet. So when Shamu Sundar found that there was a bottle of sugar, that was the maid's sugar. So he took that and they made the sweet rice and the maid found out it was chasing him through the hollow pan smelling like sugar. So then when he went out one day shopping again for the next meal, there was an Indian boy and a Russian boy standing there and came up to Shamshim and asked him, daughters, Levi's. So there are like greater view uplines in no dollars, no Levites, no useless guy, nothing valuable in this world. But he said, well, I, I have my Guru Maharaj, world guru of the Hare Krishna movement. And then the Indian told the Rashi, no guru, that's a religion. You can come and meet my guru. So the Indian was the son of the first secretary of the Indian mission. They came, the two of them, and the Prabhupada was so much desiring to spread the Ka Conscious movement in the Soviet Union. And they came to see and they gave so much mercy to them that in the 34 days that they were together they completely surrendered. And God for all his mercy. And then through that diplomatic pops they got their first bhagwat detest into their country. So and they went on the whole thing with the first and things went to ATV and a massive kirtan there at the end of the for seven hours they six hours they were recalling everything in a huge kirtan all in the village of chanting. They were there in Moscow. We had to break at 2 o', clock, took lunch and then like 3:30 they started a nice program. That was the first morning, the morning was all and the afternoon was all dignitaries and professors. I spoke for 11 minutes, just a short talk. That was really impressive to see so many devotees and to hear that so many sacrifices been done. And they had a they now outside of Moscow. They have what used to be a Lenin youth camp. And that's one of the two temples. And it has the capacity of about a thousand devotees. So there's like they have a five day seminar camp Centennial Exodus. There were so many dramas with activists. We got a very top place next to the Victoria Memorial. They wanted us to take a short route. We wanted to take a long route. And the police assistant chief is two of those men became devotees and yawas or estimates. Those are happy. So we had to call members of parliament and to form out and say no, this is coming in my constituency. You cannot change the route. And finally push it through. And we had the same route, 11 kilometer routes. I must have distributed six 50,000 plus every night. Then we had a big procession in Bangladesh with 100,000 people. I was the chief guest of the to master the program of the and also chief guest again before Jabasi for a few days at his program. So I was there and then had some Muslim minister. He came and spoke, flew back to Calcutta and then we had Javastami and then Calcutta 10 Kara. I was in Calcutta for about 10 days of Bokana this morning. I was Lokhana this morning in the preparation for the Mahaviyasa Puja. And I just went on for two days to Brahmandesra was functions and came back again. So they had rented indoor seasonings in Katharine Village and capacity of 15,000 people. And the beachers and the seats and they put the D on one side. They had a big lotus for Grauba set up for the hobby shed. And they had a big stage for Dhamma and different functions and a small stage. So they had a program for 4, 4 in the afternoon until 9:30 at night. The first night was the first demanding of the thousand and eight holy waters. I was asked to be in charge of coordinating. And we created also 108 different auspicious items of the older. So somehow things went on. People were even in those days it was a very spirit, very deep spiritual experience. So it seems they must have touched the eyes of the There's a new government now. The founder of Bangladesh is a Sheikh Muzib Brahman was assassinated. But he was like the original prime minister. He was the ally. The way that Bangladesh got freedom was they made friends with India and India sided with Bangladesh and used to be Pakistan East Pakistan, West Pakistan. So it became seceded from Pakistan became its whole country became Pakistan and Bangladesh. So the way that that happened was India supported that she somewhat favorable to the Hindus. She can't get too much because there is still a minority. She gets a lot of Hindus background. So we have several Hindu ministers and they came and spoken. So how much do I actually do? What do we have? Samuel vignette for us? Those are some of the big highlights. Also you have a big festival in Brazil with about over a thousand devotees in the Nogogo Pula. First, in the threefold ego, the conditioned soul thinks I am this body. But a liberator soul thinks I am not this body, I am spirit soul. This I am is called ego or identification of the self. I am this body or everything in relationship to the body is mine is called false ego. But when one is self realized and thinks that he is an eternal servitor of the Supreme Lord, that identification is real ego. Our conception is in the darkness of the threefold qualities of material good nature, goodness, passion and ignorance. And the other is in the pure state of goodness called Sudha, Sattva or vaas or deva. When we say that we give up our ego, this means that we give up our false ego. But real ego is always present when one is reflected through the material contamination of the body and mind. In false identification he is in the conditional state. But when he is reflected in a pure stage, he is called liberated. The identification of oneself with one's material possessions in the conditional stage must be purified. And one must identify himself in relationship with the Supreme Lord. In the conditioned state, one accepts everything as an object of sense gratification. And in the liberated state, one accepts everything for the service of the Supreme Lord. Ka Consciousness. Devotional service is the actual liberated stage of a living entity. Otherwise both accepting and rejecting on the material platform or in voidness or impersonalism. Are imperfect conditions for the pure soul. By the understanding of the pure soul called Satyagrit, one can see everything as a relation, as a reflection of the supreme personality of Godhood. A concrete example can be given in this connection. A conditioned soul sees a very beautiful rose and he thinks that the nice aromatic flower should be used for his own sense gratification. This is one kind of vision. A liberating soul, however, sees the same flower as the reflection of the Supreme Lord. He this beautiful flower is made possible by the superior energy of the Supreme Lord. Therefore it belongs to the Supreme Lord and should be utilized in his service. A conditioned soul sees the flower for his own enjoyment and the devotee sees the flower as an object to be used in the service of the Lord. In the same way one can see the reflection of the Supreme Lord in one's own senses, body and mind in everything. With that correct vision, one can engage everything in the service of the Lord. It is stated that Bhakti, Vasavrita, Sindhu. But one who has engaged everything, his vital energy, his wealth, his intelligence and his words in the service of the Lord, or who desires to engage all these in the service of the Lord, no matter how he is situated, is to be considered a liberated soul. Such a man has understood things as they are. To the Srimad Bhagavatam 3rd Canto 27th chapter 13th text in the matter of understanding material image. So this is a very important part in the Srimad Bhagavatam about Krishna. It's important that we come over the consciousness that I am the body, up to the consciousness that I am pure spirit soul. Practically in every lecture that Prabhupada gave, he'll repeat this point. You're not the body. And although in spite of having heard it for so many times, our tendency is always to act as if it were the Bible. Krishna Kirtan dies from Bangladesh who sings amazing. Her song Said was composed by Art and Dust Takur where it's kind of an interactive song with the audience. And he sings out and asks, what is your identity? Who are you? And then he answers the question, you listen. Jiva Nitto Krishna Das Jiva Nidra Ka Das, the living entity is the eternal servitor of Krishna. This is my identity. This is who I am. This is my introduction. That's who I am. And the basic thing, the very basis of our Ka conscious movement is the thing that we usually forget first, that I am an eternal servant to a Krishna. Nowadays people like to use the word pine name shit so here's what the paradigm shift is from changing from the false ego consciousness to the real ego consciousness. From considering that I am this body, I am the bodily possessions are mine. I am not the body. I am pure spirit soul. Pure spirit soul is the eternal servant of Krishna. Every everything is Krishna's energy. In 1970, Prabhupada called me here to Los Angeles in this temple. And of course in those days where I think we're still experimenting with living in the Western world and being Krishna conscious. So in India, it's not considered to be wrong if you go early in the morning or and you pick flowers from trees that are alongside the road even though they're privately owned. With rhubarb, it's not considered to be problem. I was taken out with the Jayananda, the flower run where we went to Beverly Hills. But in Beverly Hills they don't have the same liberal attitude that they had the Indian. While we were picking flowers, someone shot at us. So then Prabhupada heard about that and said, I think this should not be done anymore. So we had the idea everything is Krishna's. So although it's true everything is Christians, but still we had to follow the Prabhup but also said to follow the local customs and the rule of the land. So we have to be very careful how we apply them. In India, the deities themselves are considered to be legal entities if they own anything. And in the law books there are many case histories of Radha Madan Mohan vs so and so, Radha Govinda vs so and so having court cases where someone has encroached upon the Devi's property and the Devi is suing so and that interesting is that was appealed and had gone up to at that time was the British Raj. So the highest court in the land was the House of Lords in England. And there are many cases that had gone up to the House of Ward. And they had to also consider about the rights of a deity. And they judged that a deity has to considered as a minor, like we would consider a minor because he cannot represent his own interests. So he has to represent him by his sevite or his trustee who's in charge of the temple. But he's a juridic entity according to the English law. So there the deities have got legal rights like everyone else. And although I've not heard of any deity bankruptcy. The consciousness of the deity as a person, the consciousness of things belonging to Ka. Ultimately everything belongs to Ka. But certain things are directly in this world under the control of Ka. Deities and we have to serve Ka in that consciousness is what helps to train us to come to the real ego Serving the deity. The so fortunate Rukmini Dwarka, Jadeesh, Jagannathaladev Subhadra Maharani and Lornya Thay Guru Baranga. They're very merciful, they're beautiful deities. So serving the deities is one way that we come come into the consciousness that the servitor of the deities and everything that is done in the temple is a deity's possession. And to use everything for the deity. What would it take to. To actually get this basic understanding as one legal alternative? Because in the school system, in the public school system people are thoroughly ingrained with the idea that they are the body. In America you're talking, you're an American, the American dream that you American. But that's all right to be. I was born in America. That you're born in America, you are an American, you are this body rather than you are a spirit soul that has been born in America and we have this opportunity. There are opportunities to be there. Death change eventually when there's enough unconscious devotees is very fundamental in the education of the children. Even in India they're simply following the western way. I told this story many times of how many years ago when I was. When we were just having a bicycle in Mayapur and I used to go to this Krishna Nagar, my bicycle in order to do some work and I went to get some printing done and there I went into the printing press and there was before me there was a school teacher who was collecting the second grade examinations for the hit year primary school exams. So while I was waiting it was in Bengali. So I was reading in Bengali with the test set. I was just kind of curious and question number two or three was tuma ki poi choy. Let's say what is your identity? So I just asked the teacher what does the child have to say to pass? The simile has to say I'm an Indian, I'm a Bengali, I'm a human being. I was curious what if he would say I am a pure spirit soul, I'm a part of God. Or that would. It's not proper answer. So just like Prahlad Maharaj was sent into the education of the sons of Supracharya. Basically that's what's happening here and people are. This is ingrained. You are dividing, you are dividing, you are dividing, you are dividing. Where the human form of life is meant for educating people that you're not dividing, you're not dividing. You are the pure spirit soul. And therefore there's a very radical difference. Instead of living just to please my body, I utilize my body for a higher purpose. It's like popular in America to ask people what they've asked. Whether you eat to live or left to eat. That's the kind of shift in consciousness. Are we living for the body or is the body there for serving a higher purpose? Lord Chaitanya, he tells us that being in this material world is like kind of a roller coaster ride. Going up and down a ducking stool was literally what the habu do. What the example is that sometimes Kobe, naraka, Dubai, Swarga, Utaya, Dhanta, jana, Raja Jana, Nurite, Chubaya. Sometimes we're thrown in hell and sometimes we're brought up to the heavenly planets in this way like a man in a dunking punishment I used to have in America. So a dunking you put under the water and then when you just about wash to see if there's any bubbles and as soon as you let go you know that you're going to be breathing in water. So they pull you out before you die. Watch the bubbles they take out. You have one breath of air back down again. So the amount of happiness you get is compared to that breath of air. Then after that down again. This is material happiness. So there are many dangers at every step in all the different levels. Just to be born in a heavenly planet. So they still think they're the Bhagava. They think that they're devas. This is who they are. They're in their. If you're enjoying in the Bhagwan in the Padma Purana there's a story about the glorious of the fourth chapter Bhagavad Gita which illustrates the kind of hazards there are even living in the heavenly planets. There was a great yogi who was practicing devotional Jnana Yoga in previous age. And he was living by the Ganges river in a place called Mayapur. And he was doing his meditation. His name was Sathya Tapas. He was so great a yogi that he had accumulated many mystic powers and many great potencies. And even Lord Brahma came to visit him. To get a visit from Lord Brahma is very significant. So he became so powerful during this his austerities and accumulating so much of highest activity that Lord Indra became frightened that if the subject Tapas wants to remove me, he can remove me. I can easily be taken out because Indra gets there. Because like all this election fever In America, you see everywhere you vote for this one, they're trying to gather the boats. But if you want to go to the heavenly planets, you have to gather the good karmas. If you have more good karma, then you can get a placement. When you're no good karma means you don't get elected. So of course the demons trying to do it by other means. But even it's interesting, even when Bali Maharaj was victorious and it came to Bhagavatam inventions and he sat on the seat of Indra after having done that Vishwajit sacrifice successfully, the first thing his priests told him was that you're burning out so much good karma by sitting on this seat that you'll be offered before, you know, if you don't immediately start doing sacrifices. And so they immediately started to engage in us who made the yajnas. And this way he did 100 asumedas and. And he accumulated enough good karma to stay in Indra's seat. So actually, you could tell some of the candidates this last week they have the opportunity to come to the temple and do some very intensive prayers on Nama Dharman says every time will you offer the lamp? It's worth more than Sumeri Yajnas. And you get Bhagawhi down before the dv, Nelson Mandela bowed down before the Rahe Ka deities in Durban, South Africa. This may be the only hope for some of our candidates here. If they come and bow down while they're in California, they should come. It sounds funny though, but actually that's how the great kings would maintain. Every day they go and do worship. Even if they were materialists and they wanted to do it for good karma, they would do the worship. And those who were the pure Deloreans, like Ambush Maharaj, they would do because they loved Krishna and they wanted to please him. In either case, you have to do worship to the supreme Lord. And Indra. He got worried though, that this yogi, Satya Tapas, has got so much good karma. Apparently the devas can tell. We don't really see like a battery meter how much we have good karma or not. We don't have a way of knowing exactly. But the devas, apparently they can tell. And he could see that just so about good karma, that he has so much good karma, he could easily take over my position. So he got somehow frightened and he saw only the one hope for him is he has to make this roki fall down and thus lose some of his good karma. So he calls in a couple of his favorite apsara from his court. And there again, innocent girls and asked them whether you could do a service for your king, for your country. Our whole existence here is being threatened by a national threat. So, of course, what can we do here? They called him like the head of a king, and they asked to do a little sacrifice for the national benefit. And he says, well, there's this yogi, Satya Tapas, and he's trying to take over my position. And if you can just go there, just using your feminine skills, somehow attract him and get him to, you know, just, I mean, fall down with you, and this way you can save your king. You're doing an action, you know, service for the entire kingdom here. So here these young girls, you know, hammered, I mean, overwhelmed by the king himself, is asking them to do this full service. They had to overcome their natural shyness and agreed to do this. So they come down here on the earth planet with a little celestial band. They took the ashram of Satya Tapas, who's deep in meditation, and they start playing the music and they start dancing and the ankle bells are tinkling. They start imagination, meditate. What's going on? Finally, after a while, you know, it's just like he opens his eyes, you know, what's going on here? So finally, you know, it's like, come out of this meditation. Here's our chance. They smile and do the song and dance and everything and trying to attract him. And he's looking at them, what's going on? And they think, you know, he's looking, so he's even more interested. And then they dance a little more. The one gets very close and clothes start to fall away, exposing parts that normally not show the people. And then the yogi turn. He just gets so furious. I'm trying to measure what are they doing here, harassing me. And he says, I curse you too, to become trees. Wait a minute. That wasn't in the. Wasn't like in the script. Infant never said that. We're going to get cursed in retreats, you know, national hero, you know, save the kingdom, go down and just, you know, know just a little dance, you know, like, you know, the devas always fell for why this yogi's not falling for it. Why didn't he get attracted? You know, wait a minute. You know, they realized that we're in a big pickle right now. We're in the fix. And they fell down at the feet of Satya Tapas and begged his mercy. You know, we're just young girls. We didn't. We we were told by superior authorities that we should do this. And we didn't really know what we're doing and we didn't mean to offend you or anything. We were told that. Why are you doing this? I'm just trying to meditate on the absolute truth. Why are you coming here and disturbing me? We told that we're told we wanted. You're doing all this to take over the position of inter. You want to be the A Indra and remove him. And you're doing all this hysterically for that purpose. Me, the A Indra? Never give it to me. I want to go back to Krishna, serve him eternally. I have no desire, Indra. All these things. So here they were. They were sent as secret agents and it was a total missed call. And therefore, because he had no material desires in them. So therefore he was not attractive, he was protected by his devotional service. Instead they were cursed to be treason. I said, oh, you know, begged for his mercy and to please remove the curse. And they learned their lesson. He said, I can't remove it. Once I get a curse, it's like there's no. There's no releasable, there's no withdrawing. It's like you shoot a bullet. It doesn't want to hear like bring it back. But the difference with a curse is you can handle the put conditions. So he said, alright, since you are innocent girls, let me help you. He thought for a minute. He had such a vision. He could see in the future. He said, there will be trees on the side of the Ganges and there will be a Brahmana called Dharma who will come and read the Bhagavad Gita trees. And when he touches you, you'll be liberated from his curse. So it's the fourth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. So there they were, standing beside of the Ganges. This time nearby the sun, the rain, the hailstones. Some of the less devotional people doing the things they do by the side of the river and the pigs coming afterwards and filling up and all those kind of things going on. There they are. One minute they were heavenly damsels and dancing and Indra's planning. There they were enjoying the opulence of the heavenly kingdom. They didn't know old age, no disease. Now they're standing as trees, birds dancing on them, dogs dancing on them. Every, you know, standing there, the whole whole. They had a lot of time to reflect. I was reminded because also Nala green and manigrin and Nala Kubera for which we are always remembering in the Tamudra Astikam they also were cursed with the Kamishuts. They were delivered by Krishna himself. So sometimes the devas seem to give these curses and they come down, take up some other role. So there was this Brahmana coming from the town of Banaras and he'd come out every day and he'd sit there under the trees and read the fourth chapter, Bhagavad Gita. He was a very great devotee of the fourth chapter of Bhagavad Gita. He loved it and he would memorize it, he'd read it, chant mantras. One day after reading and taking his bath, he was feeling a little tired and he thought, let me just cool here under the trees, let me just take a little rest. And he put his head on the root of the one tree and his foot went over to the other tree and then touched it like a foot rest. As soon as he touched both trees, the trees fell over and out come the two Apsaras. And he was there and the son, you know what happened? Who are these? And they prayed their obeisances and said that you have delivered us. What is it you're reading every day? Reading the fourth chapter of Bhagavad Gita. So then they somehow they took shelter in the house of the Brahmana, decided not to go back to the heavenly palace and the rest of them just stayed there, enchanted. The fourth chapter Bhagavad Gita. Then one day they went back to Godhead instead of going back to Indra Loki. See these Devas, they also think I am a Deva, I am an Indra, I am this one, I am that one. So whether demon or Deva, everybody thinks I am the body. But it's a self realized soul who actually understands I am creating Krishna's servant and that is a self realized soul. But then a devotee not only knows that I'm Krishna, I'm an eternal soul, but the devotee knows that I am Krishna's servant. That's what I'm going to say. Self realized soul just knows I am not the body, I am a pure spirit soul. But devotee knows that the spirit soul is eternally the power. It seems that there's a lot of occupational hazards in the head of the planet. Like Lord Chaitanya said, you go there for a little while, then you come down the Navajrama, there's a place, Kokora Daha, where one of the pastimes of Wot Chaitanya happened Lo Chaitanya was doing Kirtan in the morning with his group of Sankirta devotees. And they were chanting. And then one coward boy came up to them and said that you are my brother. How am I your brother? Because your Lord Chaitanya was your problem. He was a cowboy boy. He said, because my mother is your mother's sister. My mother used to help make sweetmeats and do service in mother Sachi's house. My mother's name is Malini. And your mother called her as her younger sisters. So my mother is your younger sister. That means that we're cousin brothers. And mother Laini asked me to come and invite you to come to the house. She has made mouse sweets and offer to the deity and loves to give you this and your Sankirtan party. And so many different kind of nut sweets. So then Lord Chaitanya to get down party. We're heading over to this Vaishnavi's house. On the way they came across a big lake. And there they saw there were many cows standing. But they weren't drinking water. They were what's happening? Why they don't drink water? Oh, there's a really big crocodile there. And they're afraid to go in because of this crocodile. Drink the water. And the crocodile grabbed them. So then Vojitanya started to chant Kirtan with his devotees. As the kirtan was going, the crocodile surface was a gigantic crocodile. White, very old. The crocodile came to the edge of the lake and crawled out and started to crawl out of the water and was approaching Lord Chaitanya. The villagers who never saw the old crocodile like this, they were frightened. They came back. But Lord Chaitanyami, he did a movie. He just was standing there chanting. And then the crocodile came leap forward the lotus feet of Lord Chaitanya put his hand touched the lotus feet of the Lord. And immediately the crocodile disappeared. There was standing one kneeling down. One with hobbit, Celestial boy, extraterrestrial. Deva Kumara. Young boy from the heavenly planets of Indra Loka. Effulgent, beautiful. They said the Lord Chaitanya was kind of shocked when the crocodile suddenly there was this boy. Who are you? How did you get here? And the boy explained that I'm from this planet of Indra Loka. And I was there in the gardens of the Devas. There's a very big forest. And I was playing in the forest. And there Dhruvasamuni was sleeping. And in his sleep I was like really mischievous. You know, he's like five, six years old, a little mischievous. He saw 57 whatever linear calculation R equivalent. So he mischievously cut off all the hair. The big lock of matted hair of Pravasamuni. And when Durasa Muni woke up, felt his head was a lot lighter. What happened to my Sita? What happened to my hair? He said, whoever has cut my hair, this like the crocodile is a good cutter. I curse them to become a crocodile. And the boy was like hiding, watching with a fun, you know. Uh oh, they came out and said so please, I was. I could have, you know, I was just being naughty. I didn't mean any harm, you know, it was just a joke. Please help me. I don't want to become a crocodile. And he touched the feet of the yogi. Well, sorry, but I already cursed you. Please, please have mercy on me. I didn't mean it. So all right. I can't hang back the curse. But you'll be accursed until the next Kirla Yoga. Lord Chaitanya is going to appear. You can be a Nahu dweeb. And then when he appears, if he touches Lord his feet then he'll be liberated from a curse. There's only a few Yugas. Don't worry about it. So Voachitanya has freed so many people from the curses. We're all cursed here somehow or another in this false ego. But by taking part in the Sankirta movement of the Lord we can become completely free from the curse of material. And there's so many other people that are under this curse. And as Lord Chaitanya's request, Prabhupada many times was asked, what can we do? We want to retain you for everything you've done for us. And Prabhupada said that on different occasions. Sometimes he said, the way you can express how much you love me is how well you cooperate with each other. Sometimes he would say that if you feel that you have gotten something from the way you can repay is give this to Ka consciousness to others. In short words he would say, be happy and make others happy. So everybody has the order to be happy by Srila Prabhupada. Of course we know that real happiness is when the ego. The real ego is happy. When the real self is happy. Making the body happy is just a trick. Because the body will be happy one minute and be in suffering the next. Suddenly, this morning, just at the time of Mangalatri, I got the news that one of my disciples, young lady graduates from the Guru Pool. Married from Australia. Just was married a Year or so ago to praying Bikash, another group called Alumni and six months pregnant that she suddenly. They found she has a brain tumor. This morning at 8:30 going in for brain surgery. And they wanted, you know, some immediate message to be sent off. So these bodies, you know, one minute they're giving happiness and the next minute they just, you know, create so much problems. Of course, devotees, unfortunately, because in their Ka consciousness this can be their last birth. They can go back home, back to Dharma. But while we're in this body, there's still danger. Every step, one minute you're healthy, every single step, something happens due to our own body due to some external source or due to earthquake or something else. You've got experience some of that over here. You just get a few tremors now and then. In India, where I was in my imprints right above you, you feel when you're doing it, Prana, you don't have a full dose like you, I hope you never have one. We're not designed for that. So this is the danger that we have the very important gift. We never lose sight of who we actually are. The real ego, even though maybe a gradual process to get out of the false ego and get into the real ego. But the devotees, even though they're engaged in so many activities as mentioned here, so many material activities because they do everything with the purpose that is for Ka, even though there'll be that suffering and there'll be the enjoyment in doing those activities but they're doing it with the purpose that Krishna will be pleased and Ka protects his devotees so that they do not lose the connection with him. Any questions? In many cases, like the universe. Well, that's explained in the reports. I drove. Indra wanted to defeat the Drasura. And in order to do that, he got the Narayana kosher. He went into such a detailed type of ritualistic devotion to the Lord, Hare Krishna and Narayana. He got the Narayana Kavach and everything. But his purpose was to maintain his position as Indra. Vitessar didn't really want to remain as a demon. He knew that he was going to be killed. He wanted to go back to Krishna because that was. He was Chitra Ketu who was cursed to become a demon for a birth. So he never lost his devotional attitude. So it said at the end, Ritrasura went back to God Gat. That's why even his body didn't decompose. It remained like that for a long time. It was pure. For Indra, Loki, God was, you know, he got an extended term in the heavenly planets which he's going to anyway have to leave at some point in time. So actually who was the real winner? That was the very clearly stated with Goblin. Who was the really, you know, the real winner was Snip Indra. Even though he won the battle, he won the war against Richard Seor, but the actual winner was Richard Soar because he got liberation and went back to Ghana. In the early part of the book we talked that demigods, persons like Indra, they're still afflicted by the false ego and therefore they do some of the things that we were mentioning. On the other hand we notice especially in the Krishna book that after, for example, Indra has done this devastating brain thing, he, he comes out with some of the most beautiful, elevated, most advanced I am not body type of prayers. So perhaps you can elaborate on this twofold. Let me say that this way that even the devas are not totally free from false ego. Obviously they're much more self realized than a human being. They're very elevated. Sometimes their own material desire gets the best of them because they're not desireless, but they're very, they're in the mode of goodness. I mean, I want to bring them down to our level. You know, their rare mistakes that they make throughout the ages are the exception rather than the rule, where part of argument is the rule. But again, it's like there is maybe a recurring exception, but it's not that. It's a constant kind of illusion that the human beings are in general, they do much better than human beings do and that's why they're considered worthy of our respect. We should always respect the devas. I'm not trying to say anything disrespectful. They're just telling some true stories that happen in the Puranas. They're not free from the false ego, but they are also very great devotees. They do have opportunity to vein. I mean, how many Indra was looking at Krishna face to face and he had realized his mistake. And therefore, though he had heard all these things before, just like devotees here, even in this they hear the instructions from the guru and the samhu and the shastra. But sometimes in the situation that we're in in this world, they forget and they act not on the transcendental platform, but later they come to their senses and then they pray to the deity, pray to the guru. They need forgiveness from their mistake and they can also get forgiven. The interesting thing was that Krishna greatness came out so much in the Past time with the Indra and the Govardhan Leela because the Krishna wanted he could just crush out Indra like a fly. I mean if he wanted, he could do anything. But he didn't. Indra was angry with him. Sometimes we portray God as taking vengeance out on the people and things like that in this Bible. I mean it's a very common, you know, people like sometimes get critical conversations against God. But if you see the actual character of Krishna is very, very compassionate, very soft and very merciful. Here Indra is trying to practically wipe out the entire village of Vrindavan. And Krishna and Vajravatis are coming and begging Krishna for protection. So then Krishna is thinking, all right, Indra is my devotee, but he's kind of off the handle. He's off. He's got his excessive. He's gone. He's in Maya, so to speak. He's not acting properly. And here have I surrendered the Lord who are totally dependent upon meats. I have to protect the Vajravasis. Maybe there's a way of doing it to cut down the pride of Indra. And then he's also a devotees. So he'll come around but he's not properly situated right now. So then he came up with a plan of lifting the Govardhan hill which protected all of the Gurjavasis. And then after Indra, all of his son, for all of his son, rain and problem. He couldn't really cause any harm to the Vajravasis. They were all protected under this umbrella of overdone. And then all the clouds went on strike against Indra said, this is not what we're meant to do. And now we're going to be in a little bit of trouble by offending Krishna. And in this way a Indra, he came to a sense as a mile. He made a big mistake and he came down and made those very beautiful prayers. So sometimes making a mistake, Prabhupada said, can be the stepping stone to success. If we learn from the mistake, then it's not a big obstacle. The problem with demons is they generally don't learn from their mistake. How many times in Jara Sunnah attack Krishna every time he thought, well, it was this problem. Next time I'm going to get him right? He could have given up, you know, the first time just said, you know, I made a mistake. That's the demons, you know, they just, they're demons, they don't learn. So you see from their mistake, some demons learn. Those are the really smart Ones like Maya Danuba. He learned he didn't surrender to our children when he was being chased by the Sudarshan chakras. Maya Dhanava is one of the most intelligent of the demons. Intelligence means you learn. Sri Indra learned and he went down as you so nicely your tapes have reproduced. He's given beautiful prayers to Lord Krishna. This is a very sacred month of Dhammadharam. And this month, if we observe the Dhammadavrata, we can get special mercy, hundred times benefit. Especially this month for the devotees who are already vegetarian, we don't take any high protein, especially Erd dal. Anything that has more protein than erg dal would be out. And for the non vegetarians, this is the month that everyone is encouraged to be a vegetarian. Get his special mercy. By observing the different activities of Dharmadhara, one can get very special mercy. So little worship in this month goes a very long wave. So right after this is the month also where the Govardhan Leela occurs. In this particular month, there's a lot of very beautiful pastimes of the Lord that appear in this month. This was the month that Indra had come to his senses. So this is a good month to get forgiven for offenses to the Lord and to pray to the Lord to be re established properly in devotional service. Indra, our president Indra is very fortunate. He's definitely terrified. He had the personal audience of Krishna and he got forgiven. He could be so fortunate that you work on getting some positive benefit by doing some highest activities. So there's one vice president, his name is Gore. So by using that name, by people using that name, are they getting some kind of transcendental benefit or material benefit or is no benefit or because that's an hour of us, they're definitely getting benefit. We gotta have him be president. I don't know if that's enough reason to elect somebody at least. He said everyone is seeing the sign they're getting. It means that the whole of America now is getting somehow. And that by seeing and mentioning the name of their vice president or hearing it, they're becoming more ready for ka consciousness. And we should take advantage of that and appropriately preach to them so that they can cash in on all the mercy that they're given. That's true, Gordon. That was the whole thing. It's like people have so many misconceptions in this kind of foundation meeting. One guy started TBC is trying to build the Vatican City big temples like Vatican ideas people don't understand. By giving the attention, attraction People now after the centennial as a further inspiration show that initial. Actually I photographed the Ananta. I got a close up. I mean I didn't. I never even thought that may be a problem. It's like because being in Mayapur, you know, way Prabhupada was preaching senior but there's so many new people and people that have been out back different things that weren't there when Prabhupada was in teaching that they don't. They don't have that same realization. I don't say it's a problem for everyone, especially the congregational members who are in therapy for many of them and they will never. So we need to do some more raise the. Yeah. Oh, what's happening to the new floor? That's it. I'm doing this restoration project. I'm not. Not so what does it mean? Well, yeah, you have to go. Yeah. You can. Number seven. Yeah. Budget back in the States that they had to take care of. There's no feeling of no alienation or this is something else apart from what we're really doing. So maybe we have to look into that type of an attitude change priority. Prabhupada emphasized he called everybody to Mayapur once a year. He didn't call everybody to other places. He said Mayapur is a place I want everybody to come to every year. There's no creative thought put to how to make the festival to achieve that. I mean apart from, you know, a few of us that are there even we haven't really thought so much. I certainly know many else is thinking so many people are coming there. How can we use this opportunity really uniting the society. If any other organization had a world conference where delegates from all the countries flew in, they'd probably be planning it out. Right. They wanted to stop the brick. You know that the best part, it's the most enlightening sign of the whole festival. So somehow or other and the spirit, you have to kind of like bring that freedom of spirit into the whole festival. That excitement and feeling camaraderie that you have when you're out there on the road. You're going to all the places, eating together, chanting together, doing things like that kind of sessions every day around the park. More festive. Yeah. That Compton Square Park. Some of the local sanyasis and other. They couldn't figure out what is this and know they are Michael Jackson, kid. Michael Jackson. I don't know. You know, they just heard the name, you know, for them. I mean they didn't actually ever see a video clip. What actually played the Jackson looks like I just heard it. This is what. That's what. Someone made a comment. That was nice. You know, in a sense it was. It was fun. But you had such a conservative. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure sure to subscribe to our channel.
