Bhagavad-gītā 12.9
Samantha, teach around any particular verse. You know what the verses. If you cannot fix your mind upon me without deviation then follow the regular principles of Bhakti Yoga. In this way develop a desire to attain me. Translation repetition. My dear Arjuna. My dear Arjuna says that the practice of Bhakti Yoga under the rules and regulations with the direction of a scripture and restoration will surely bring one to the stage of love of God. Here is meant to bring one up to the level of attachment to Ka. If somebody is fully attached to Ka, they can think of Ka day and night. And naturally they'll be practicing all of the principles of Bhakti Yoga without any external effort. But because they're not so much attached, therefore we need to purify our senses so we become attached. Therefore there's. When we say rules of regulation, regular devotional service, it means that some program is given that you should do this, you should do that so that throughout the day we can remain engaged in Krishna service. Here many of the services are related to the temple worship. Collecting flowers to offer the deity. Cooking foodstuffs to offer the deity. How many of you are able to take prasad? Okay, this one thing you can do. How many can collect flowers? But maybe for people who are living at home they can rise somewhat early, take the bath, do some prayers in the house temple with their little puja room. Then to get ready to go to school, go to work. So before going they can chant Haregisnahare. You just finish. I can read a little bit from Gita or Bhaiwood. Then they had to run off and do their daily work or whatever. So this is what we tried to. Because there was one girl in Sydney and she said that she just didn't have any time to chant. She would do three rounds a day. So we were discussing and said well she's going to high school and then she goes to work at a restaurant. Sansa, how long does it take you to get to your high school? 40 minutes by bus. Do you chant in the bus? No. How long does it take you to get to work the bus? One hour. You chamber the bus? No. So we went through the whole schedule and saw where does she have time. So I like to read. I usually read my bust a little bit. Then we figured out she actually had enough time by using the bus, just a little time in the home to chant 16 rounds and also do some reading. But she was kind of spacing out, looking out the window in the bus three hours a day. So according to what we have to do, the schedule may Be adapted. That's what has guided expert scripture Master. This thing is not very complicated. Even the local senior devotees are often able to give some advice. But the basic thing is time managing. We do a devotional service as much as possible. In the spare time that's available. We make some time in this way. We keep our regular contact with Ka throughout the day. It's important to keep in touch with Ka to be immersed in devotional service. This is devotional service is an active meditation. It's like the yogis. They sit in some posture and they meditate. You must say how many have seen the Yoga Narashima Devi? Anyone? Anyone see the Yoganarasanga? Dr. Jason was with us on the South Indian safari. There's one temple Niro Bangalore called city called Malpute, Karnataka. There's a temple there, Yoganarasima. So Prahlada went to the top of the mountain, the hill there and was looking around. And he wanted to meditate. But he really didn't know how to meditate. So then Nasinha Deva, watching his struggle to meditate without knowing the proper way. Then he said the deity suddenly took a bigger form, said, you're doing it all wrong. Do it this way. And he assumed that Yoga meditational pose to show his devotee how to meditate. So even the Lord sometimes he is facilitating the routine. So in that case, the process was meditation. The Lord is also doing this. He's showing nothing. He has to meditate. But he's doing that to show his devotee how to meditate. Similarly, Chaitanya Mahdava, he came down to this world to show all of us how to meditate on the Maha Mantra. Krishna doesn't have to do that. But he's coming as a devotee because we need to know the process. So he's coming to show us. Of course, Prahlad was such a pure devotee that the Lord personally did for him. Lord Chaitanya is so merciful that although we are insignificant conditioned souls in this material world, he has done for all of us. In fact, he took Samyas at a very early age. Leaving the Goddess of fortune just to facilitate his ability to preach Ka consciousness to us. Otherwise we might not be receptive to his message. So he showed it. He said advice was Kirtaniya Sadhana chant. Always the Hare Krishna. I was also talking. There was a lady, she works in some. I forget what it was some kind of a shop where people would come in batches. Sometimes there would be a big crowd of people. Then sometimes there'd Be nobody for half hour. So I told her, what is it? She keep a counting machine in her pocket and there's no people. She could chin Israel set no time for chin. So far through the day, there was many hours of, you know, one stretch for 15 minutes, half hour, one hour. There would be gaps, but she would just be there in the shop doing nothing, waiting for customers. I was talking in Mangle Bar in Karnataka. Tiruan executive of a factory. He was the director in charge of operations. So his job the whole day was walking around, seeing that everybody was working in the factory. Didn't really have to do anything just to walk around and be there. Because if the boss is there, you tend to work better. The cats are in the master play. So I told him, why don't you, when you go around, use that counting machine and chant? Because he was shy to use the beast. So then he was telling us he's going around chanting. People were saying, you know, boss, what's that in your hand? I said, you better watch out. I'm calculating everything you're doing. And that night he came to see me and then he told me just before I was taking graphs, he was really anxious. He said, you know, the whole day I would change. Look at 15, 15 mantras of hare Krishna. I didn't realize how much time there was in the day that I was wasting. I could be thinking about Ka. So of course the temple environment is ideal because here everything's very regulated. There's the deities to worship and so many things to do. And there's somebody always telling you, are you doing this? What are you doing staking the military barracks? You got something over you. So actually it's much more difficult in that sense to practice from the home because it's totally dependent on the individual. Unless you're in a joint family and a father, a mother is Krishna conscious. It gets on everybody to make sure that they're doing their devotional service. Then they get some support. Otherwise it's an individual effort. So it requires a lot of willpower. In fact, sometimes you see that Devoiry's who live in the temple, when they go out without all the support of the association and the temple regulation and the temple commander and president, everybody, sometimes they flounder because they're just overwhelmed. Now they have to do everything on their own. There's so many distractions. So it takes some time for them to adjust. For somebody who's becoming Ka conscious from the congregational position, they're already adjusting because that's where they're At I appreciate what people living in the home or practicing regular devoted yoga that it's not easy to do. But somehow by taking the inspiration from one of the people, come to the temple, see how the temple worship is done and organized as best as possible. To some degree that in the house we also make a temple like environment. Because if there's a temple like environment in the house may have to be adjusted according to the particular situation, the time schedules. But if there's some regular Ka consciousness going on in the house, then the whole house becomes very peaceful place and becomes very much blessed by Ka. In fact, Bhakti Vinant Thakur he had turned a house where the household was basically centered around serving Ka as a shraddha kutyr, kutir of course like a cottage or home. And sraddha means faith. So it's like a home of faith, like people who are dedicated to serving Ka. With the term used svdhakutir. I was thinking we have someone who's a graphic designer to make us some little graphical insignia, little plaque for somebody who has a home of faith. Their household is dedicated to Ka consciousness for some period of time and give them a special award of this shraga kuti emblem they can put on their doors. You can tell me what you think of that later. But we want to encourage the devotees to practice bhaktava because Srila Prabhupada said if we practice it under the right rules and regulations with some direction from one of the scripture minister. But surely this will bring one to the stage of love of God. Love of Ka is within us. It's already there. But it's dormant material life. That's why we need to purify the heart of the material association so that the dormant love for Ka becomes awakened. Prabhupada said this is the whole process. The nature to love is there. But that nature originally was directed at Krishna. I love what's forgotten now because we're in the material illusion. So we're trying to love so many things now. Of course, love is a very cheap word. People say like oh, I love this sweet. I love this song. Love and hander become really I hate this. But love of Krishna is something much more profound, continuous. We're putting the love, but we're putting it to so many little things which are not so relevant. If we can awaken the love for Ka, of course, Krishna, that's actually perfection. Yeah. So the prophet said that Krishna Kant is something very natural. We should love our family members, we should love our Children we should love. This is a natural thing. So once he was asking his mother to why do you love your daughter Saraswati? Why do you take care of her? Give her Ka consciousness. She said, well, it's my duty. No, actually because you love her. Because you love her, you want to give her the best in life. Therefore you want to give her Ka consciousness. Parents give their children Krishna consciousness so that the children can go back to life. So they can be happy in this lifetime. Generally when we're in the material world, we have to suffer and enjoy according to our karmas. And there's no way of eradicating the bad karmas even by doing so many good works. But if we do Yajna, if we do sacrifice, then we can eradicate the bad karmas and we can also eradicate the. You're going to eradicate bad carbons by price T2 by doing some atonement. But atonement will just eradicate the karma but doesn't eradicate the tendency to do more bad karma. This was told to Parikshit Maharaj by Sukade Goswami. When Parik said how to cure people who have done so many sinful act, he said, well, they can do atonement. If they do atonement for what they do wrong, then they'll be free from the bad karma. But then Prickshad Mara said that to do atonement doesn't work as a king. I put so many people in jail that's supposed to be atonement for their misdeeds. But then after they come out of jail, they do the same thing again. So it doesn't work. In America they have a law. I heard that if somebody is convicted three times for serious crime, then the third time is like. It becomes an automatic life. There's such a long Australia because people, some people are like again and again and again. So then I just figured why waste their time? Because Samaritan has the distinction of the most prisoners in their country. Over 2 million more than the city of Elmer. How Many city population? 3.5. Oh, 3.5. Only half the size of knowing what it is. But it doesn't work. People still, when they come out, they do it again. Friends, very few people stop, especially in the prison. They learn from the experts how to do it better. So it's very difficult. So that's why then when Berkshij Maharaj said it's not very practical, the sugar devil Swami said, I'm very pleased with. Actually I was just testing you. I was proposing this knowing it wasn't the best idea, but just to see what he would say. So actually performing devotional service is the better way. Because if you do devotional service, then not only is the bad karma cleared away, but that tendency inclination to do sinful reaction is reduced. Our Maya is very strong. Sometimes Maya tends us in various ways. Prabhupada said, when we are initiated, it's like declaring war against Maya. So then Maya, she does her best to tempt us in different ways. So we have to become very strong to say no. To say yes to Ka consciousness and say no to Hiroshima, to Maya. So we read that in the second chapter of Avad Gita. It says when that is bothered with the spirit, soul body dies. Spirit doesn't die. So we should act on the spiritual platform. So spiritual platform means the spirit is servant of Krishna. Lord Chitakya told to Sanatana Goswami that he wears the Rupa in the Ka Das. That the Jiva, living entity is eternal servant of Krishna. So this is our eternal nature that we should be serving Krishna. We're his servant. We should serve him. When we serve him, then feel our natural happiness. Natural love for Krishna makes us a very happy, blissful, ecstatic state. What Chaitanya has shown that ecstasy in his practical pastimes he would be dancing so ecstatic. Sometimes he would be dancing and he would forget completely. Very high level of devotional service. One does not become aware anymore of the body. It is simply aware of Ka. This is explained in Srimad Bhagavatam. Just like in material life, it happens sometimes. Like when we're in deep sleep. That time we're not aware about our body. We're completely in deep sleep. Are you aware of your body? Be aware of anything. When we're dreaming, we're aware of our saliva. Somebody told me that they had a dream about me this morning in Brisbane. They had been attacked by Maya. And then suddenly I appeared in the Maya went away. But in our dream state then we may or may not be very conscious about our physical body. But in the waking state, we're not conscious of our dream body. Little bit we never learned. But in deep sleep it's tonally we're forgetful of the body. Sometimes a person has a very high fever. 106. 105. Very high. What does that come to in centigrade? Very high fever. 42. 42, 41. What is the depth temperature? About 40 is very high. 40 plus. No, 40. 41 is very high. 42. You may be There. Yeah, it's too high. So when you are very high fever, then at a certain point you lose delirium. Yeah, they call delirium all the time. You're not aware of what's going on in your body. This is so painful that you. You don't become conscious of it. This happened to me once in my uproar. I got a very high fever. It was like about 40, they said like 106. And at a certain point it was like I was floating, couldn't feel my body anymore. And they were playing a table. Srila Galvan Kaliyah the adventure of devotion. So at that time I was just feeling very happy hearing Baba's tea. Even though my body was very much suffering with a high fever, it became unconscious of all of the body at that point. So sometimes the Bhagavatam says sometimes any other time we lose consciousness of our body. Any shock? Shock? Shock, yeah. Some big calamity happened. Someone goes in shock. And that time they just traumatized. They don't know that. Big surprise. Like, I mean big surprise. What do you like when you're in a coma? Yeah, when you're in a coma you're not aware of anybody. I served in a paper. There was some 16 year old girl went to a rock concert and there were so many people crowding in the rock concert to hear the musicians that she literally got crushed to death in the crush of the deaf people. And they did an autopsy and she was for five days in coma. But she was clinically dead or something. Just keeping her life by the life support. When the parents sentence home was turned off the machines, they said she died because of being crushed. Her lungs were crushed again. Very dangerous place. So being in coma, that's another time when we are not conscious about our body. So when we are fully Krishna conscious and this happens naturally, we are conscious about the Atma and our relationship with Ka. So then the bodily consciousness reduces to a large degree for some devotees like Lord Chaitanya become so ecstatic that he wouldn't exhibit any consciousness for his body. When they had the kirtans and Srivas angar, he would jump. Sometimes he'd crash on the ground. His mother would be. The mother would be conscious of his body. Oh my son, what's happening? You know he's going to hurt himself. And then he was disturbing the kirtan. So the mochattani gave his mother a special blessing. Whenever the kirtan starts just going ecstasy won't be conscious anymore. Otherwise she would be so much worried about her son other motherly affliction. Then the kirtan will get disturbed. Of course, Lord Chaitanya is not having physical bodies such Udananda. But for his Leela, he's acting like that. So he's showing by his example. He wasn't conscious of all. There was a. In 1969, Srila Prabhupada came back from India to Boston. And we all went to see him at the Boston airport and receive him. And at that time there was maybe 200, 250 devotees had gathered there. And Prabhupada heard that he arrived and he was inside the customs. So they were doing some remodeling or something. They had a glass window and they had one of these, you know, kind of wooden screens. So you couldn't see what's going on in the customs. But the screen had only maybe like 2 meters high or something, or 6ft high. So then all of a sudden somebody saw Prabhupada, lifted up his hand above the screen. Could just see his hand with the bead baby. And then the voice Prabhupada. And in that moment, they were jumping up in the air Haribo. And so there were television was there, you know, filming this existing of the devotee. And actually for one devotee, somehow in the midst of this, either hit himself or someone else hit him with a car towel in the head and blood was pouring down. But he was so happy thinking the Prabhupada was coming. Didn't even know that he was bleeding. So he was filming, you know, this person that impressed him. You find newspapers, Robert Muhammad, because normally oppressed people, they try to achieve like this unawareness of their body and mind by creating intoxication or something, trying to go into some kind of ignorance. But here somebody was so happy in Ka consciousness that that moment was not so much aware of their body even obviously must have been in pain. So when we become more, there's a state where we actually become so Ka conscious. That Ka takes over the bodily functions for us. And he does everything. When we're in the spiritual, when we get rid of all our karmas, then what are we doing in the material world? We have no reason to be here. The karmas are connected to desires. We have got so many material desires. So because we have a desire to do this, to do that. Therefore, in order to enjoy those desires, to realize them, we need a body in the material world. The subtle body, the mind, the intelligence, the false ego. All these things are connected to the desires. And because we need a physical Body of earth, water, fire, air, ether. In order to get our desired desire to do it in the physical body. If we can purify our material desires and make them spiritual desires by doing things for Ka, Then we don't have a reason to have a mature body anymore. But even though we're living in a material world, we're actually acting on a spiritual platform. So that's why initially we have so many desires. We have so many things we want to do. But then there's a way to do those for Ka. Just like one may want a family in order to get married and stay with their wife and husband and Vishnu standing by. And then make a family center around Krishna. Someone may want to do painting. They can paint pictures of Krishna and to do music. They can do music and offer the results of their music to Krishna. There's many things that people can do and offer that to Ka. So this way, if we rationally purify all our desires so that the desires themselves are done in such a way that Ka is pleased by that. And Krishna said, we have a right to survive. So we have to do some job that isn't directly a Ka service, but that's part of survival. To get money to eat and maintain their family. And then for the recreational side, then those things can be more oriented around Ka. It's quite common when devotees go on vacation. So they go visiting temples in different places. For the Indiana pilgrimage you go to, Indians go to America on pilgrimage to Europe, to Australia. I haven't done too much, but I would suggest it would be a good destination that to visit the different Hare Krishna temples. And everybody visit the Sydney Opera House here in Spain. The key note is that going to the temple. So we've taken many tours of life members from India to Europe and America and visited the different temples. They took prashad, they saw them on the other sides and encouraged them along the way. They change up everything. So in that time of association, when they go and see all these materialistic places, when they get to the temples, they actually feel the difference of the vibration. They feel very much relief. And they found that. And every tour there would be a large number of the light members who would take out bhakti, yoga on a more regular basis. Java and just regular principles. In fact, I have several. I don't know exactly how many number of disciples who became inspired visiting the temples around the world. But going on a pilgrimage as compared to just going to see some touristic things. That's how you like to dovetail. Okay, I want to go and see, let's go to a festival, let's go to the Ngovana festival, let's go to the Novana Sangatra, or this day goes to south, the Ka conscious festival. People have a desire to travel, to seize places, do things. So somehow dovetail that with some Ka conscious purpose. So there's many ways that things can be oriented to be more Krishna conscious. So eventually all our desires are dovetailed with Krishna or the majority of them. Then we also actually, you know, even you don't feel so conscious about the whole bodily existence, takes a less, takes a different perspective. We start to see things from a spiritual perspective, from the point of view that Krishna sees the material world. Instead of seeing the material world as something to enjoy, we see something to use for Ka service. I mean, like sometimes you're walking, there's a man in the holy, and they see a nice flower on a tree and they live in, they pick it up. Oh, ah, so nice. You know, the devotee, they see a flower, they want to pick it to bring to the temple of offer, to reveal. They don't want to smell it first, but Krishna smells it first. So that's the kind of training that after a period of time when you're offering everything to Ka, our thoughts, our words, our activities, then you gradually just become oriented to serve richness like second nature. And then that develops deeper until you actually have a love for Ka. You're attached to Ka and when you're attached to Krishna, what do you don't belong in the Mahinda world, You don't belong here anymore. You go back to the spiritual world and then the light, you're already creating your spiritual body. There's something very painless and natural that evolves, or it may take for other processes of yoga, many, many births before one can get purified of the karmas. Because the mentality doesn't change. But to Bhakti yoga, in a very short period of time, one's full orientation changes and they start to see things from a totally different perspective. And therefore they're able to be in touch with Ka and see things from a spiritual point of view and get back to Ka very easily. Even while living in the material world, they are considered liberty. I'm not just saying that there is a verse in Sanskrit, but if one is engaging his thought, words and deeds of Ka's service, that even while living in a material world is liberated. Jeevan Munte Sochite See, being devotees, of course we all have free will. And if somebody wants to misuse their free will. We can also choose to do something which is not proper. That's always and then one needs another say we're responsible for that. Don't expect that it's because somebody is initiated or somebody is devoting. It's like somebody is a policeman. If they break a law and break apart, they have to also be punished like anybody else. As a policeman, if he's doing his duty, even if he is a criminal and he shoots the criminal he's not liable for murder or punishment because he's carrying out his duty. But like sometimes happens that police improperly they do things exceedingly or without, then they're also responsible. So being in the woody is even more serious. If we don't act responsibly because we know that the dance between Krishna and the devotee how that is dealt with we have to all Krishna consciousness actually called Guri Yoga using the intelligence how to do everything for Krishna become very responsible. If you want to achieve success in this lifetime, we have to be responsible. Of course, if we are not successful, even if we did something Krishna says we may have take birth again but the next lifetime you get a head start. As you start where you left off. So it's not like the loss. Even if someone doesn't complete it one lifetime you get another chance. They continue where they were left off sometimes. Then they get a chance to go to heavenly planets and enjoy for a long time. Then come down again to start again as virtual. There's no loss even if one tries and doesn't succeed. Sometimes people get depressed. Well, I never going to do it. I'm not up here devotee. I can't do all this. I'm never going to be successful. So then I give up and sell out to illusion. That's another trait of man to make us discouraged. It's better to be sincere and try to succeed even if we're not fully successful. Because Krishna doesn't want to be also deliver us. It's his free will if he wants to. This person is trying to give them mercy from our side we should try even if it's difficult. Get some help, get some guidance, do whatever the best we can. At least we were sincere. And Krishna says that by doing something good you never get a bad result. But what do you gain? Even if somebody is very successful materially, then at the end of life again they have to start all over. Where they haven't they don't take anything with them. You can read them out in the newspaper. The top 200 rich people are selling. The richest person is 2.5 million. I think so. But when they leave, they can't take it with them. There's a story about one rich man in the Piranhas. And he was a big landlord. So much money he raised his children and they became very proud of the son of a richest man or the son of a big zander. He never invited them. He got consciousness. So at one point, a nearby Calder Shuri airman he asked for a loan. So the man gave him some loan to help him. But the shoe man never repaid the loan. So the shoe man was indebted to the rich man in order for him to pay back the debt. The rich man became the son of the poor man his life after he died. So he was. Because he was son of the shoeman, he also learned how to repair shoes. So it so happened he went to his former house in the next birth as a shoe repairman and was repairing the shoes for his own son. But then he. When they asked for the payment for repairing the shoe, the son just gave him hardly anything. His complaint didn't give him up. He said, what do you mean? Your father never paid back my father the debt of who are you? You're so puffed up. You know, when you are nobody, you're just a shuri pear man took off his shoes and started meeting the shoe repair was actually his father in the previous life. So because he never trained his children to be good people, to be gracious, you know, I mean, he was not such a bad person. This he gave him a little bit. But karma is like that. You can give somebody money, you have to your you're giving. I am the giver, I am the doer. I am giving you money. See how great and charitable I am. You're responsible. It's your karma. You're doing payas activity. But you have to take the karma for that. That's why Krishna says, whatever you do, whatever you give away, whatever you eat, do it as an offering to me. If he does name a Krishna, I don't. This is just like donation name of Krishna. You take this out. Okay, finished. You don't have any kind of responsibility. Soon as he gave us something to that person, he also that person was responsible to him. What right does the shoe man have to get a donation or a loan from this other person? So both of them got entangled in the karma. Because he never trained his children to be God conscious, he ended up being beaten by his own children. So law karma is very complicated. In order to get all the people out of it. And that's why chanting Hare Krishnadeshnam Hare engaging in devotional service whether in the house or whether in the temple forest. Everybody should engage in this devotional service. So that way they can achieve this success in the human life. They develop love of Krishna. Then they go back to Krishna. Hare Krishna. Any question? Yeah, Take a scan of something. Yoga that was. Was the process of sacrifice and Satud. We were meditating ashainabilities. Now the process is chanting. Previous was temple worship. Before that was fire Yoga. At this age. Hello, Tamhari Kirtana. The process is chanting that addition. But then that process was Jaita meditation. So people would spend time the other Dharma sort of dialogue with the Detroit or Chicago police chief in regards to law and order. I just can't for the life of me remember what was said. But similar. I mean, I also vaguely remember. I think it's from the science of self realization where he also says that the people engaged in the process they have a change in heart. It's the same idea. If we do devotional service. Actually our whole way of doing the world changes. Otherwise just my punishment is not there change prisoner. But in that punishment as it's there. As a Krishna says of Vasudha discipline. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel. We publish new videos every day. And don't forget to like and share our channel.
