A recorded lecture (2000) expounding the Śrimad-Bhāgavatam episodes of Dhruva Maharaj’s return to Vaikuntha (Vishnu-loka). The speaker narrates Dhruva’s reception by Vishnu’s associates, his concern for his mother Suniti, distinctions between śikṣā-guru and dikṣā-guru, and the devotional lessons about gratitude, spiritual guidance, and devotees’ roles in taking souls back to Godhead.
Sam. So this section is where Dhruva Maharaj was going back to Godhead. The Vishnu Duda is king in an immortal airplane. A Vishnu Loka. And they spoke to him. The Vishnu Dudas. We are representatives of God, creator of the whole universe. He carries in his hand the bow of Sars God. We are especially deputed to take you back to the spiritual world. Demigods. They're not able to achieve this great Rishi. Even the planets are not able to circumambulating just to see that planet. So you're invited to come back home, back to Godhead. Neither your forefathers or anyone else has ever achieved such a pardon. A planet known as Vishnu Loka. Where Lord Vishnu first name resides, the highest of all. Please come with us and live there eternally. This unique airplane has been sent by the Lord. You're quite worthy to board such an airplane. He didn't want to go on the airplane dirty. So he took a bath, put on his tea light, did his worship, decorated himself, paid his obeisances to all the sages. And he got ready to go on the transcendental plane back to Godhead. Before getting on board the plane, Dhruva Maharaj worshiped the plane also. He circumambulated it. He offered his obeisances to the associates of Vishnu. This way he was becoming more and more brilliant like molten gold. So he was completely prepared to board and transcend a plane. Finally, when he saw he was just about to attempt to get out of the plane. He saw a death personified approaching him. Not caring for death, however, he took advantage of the opportunity to put his head, his feet on the head of death. And thus he got up on the airplane which is as big as a house, bigger than a jumbo jet. All for yourself. In other words, you saw death. It wasn't a trouble for him. No trouble. Just put his foot on death and walked on the plane. So he didn't have to go through any traumas. He didn't have to go through any ignorance or any like. You can ask Dr. Mazumda. I'm sure his doctors, they know what death is like. You see the patient. Sometimes it's not a pleasant thing for most people. But in this case, even one of my disciples recently, two of my disciples, they were taking care of their grandfather. And he was delirious and he was trying to get him to chant Hare Krishna. And he said why I should chant? What is the meaning of all these words, brother? He is saying so many. He's Indian, brother. He said don't worry about it, just chant. Their grandchildren, they get bossed to grandfather sometimes because some affection in their soul. He started to chant. Soon as he chanted he was feeling some peace. They stayed up until 2 in the morning with them keeping in chanting. And then finally they collapsed, you know, and then about three or four in the morning he passed off. So they weren't. We don't know exactly what happened at that moment, but up to that time they had them chanting. But you can see how it was very traumatic to go through the death. Couldn't speak properly, couldn't think properly, couldn't do. Here is a Dhruva. He's all dressed up. He's already, you know, completely very healthy, very sane consciousness. And then this spiritual airplane coming, death Persona coming. And just like he puts his foot on and goes in. Maybe he left back his material body but just walked out of it in his spiritual body. Something like that has explained my season. So he didn't have to go through death at all. He didn't go through that experience. At that time, drums, kettle drums from the sky were resounding. The gangdharvas were singing, Demigods were shouting flowers. And the Dhruva who leaves their world like this, you know, going in a royal fashion. So the verse I wanted to read, especially today, is verse 32. Sunitim Jana Nim Dhruva. Sunitim jananim Dhruva Anavasmarat agam hidwa anvas translation of it. Dhruva was seated in the transcendental airplane which was just about to start when he remembered his poor mother Suniti. He thought to himself, how shall I go alone to the Vaikuntha planet and leave behind my poor mother? Dhruva had a feeling of obligation to his mother's Suniti. It was Suniti who had given him the clue which had now enabled him to be personally carried to the Vaikuntha planet by the associates of Lord Vishnu. He now remembered her and wanted to take her with him. Ashiduva Maharaja's mother Suniti was his pata parnarshaka guru. Patapradarshaka guru means the guru or the spiritual master who shows the way. Such a guru is sometimes called Siksha Guru. Although Narada Muni was his diksha guru initiating spiritual master Suniti, his mother was first the first who gave him instruction on how to achieve the favor of the supreme personality of Godhood. It is the duty of the Sikhsha guru or diksha guru to instruct the disciple in the right way. And it depends on the disciple to execute the process. According to Shastric injunctions, there is no difference between the Siksha Guru and DK Guru. And generally the Siksha Guru later on becomes the Diksha Guru Sunidhi. However, being a woman and especially his mother could not become Dhruva Maharaja's Diksha Guru. Still, he was not less obliged to saniti. There was no question of carrying Narad Muni to Vaikuntha Loka. But Vanda Maharaj Madhuva Maharaj thought of his mother. Whatever plan the Supreme Lord contemplate immediately fractifies. Similarly, a devotee who is completely dependent on the Supreme Lord can also fulfill his wishes by the grace of the Lord. The Lord fulfills his wishes independently. But a devotee fulfills his wishes simply by being dependent on the supreme personality of Godhead. Therefore, as soon as Dhruva Maharaj thought of his poor mother, he was assured by the associates of Vishnu that Sunidy was also going to Vaikuntha Loka. In another plane, Dhruva Maharaj had thought that he was going alone to Vaikuntha Loka, leaving behind his mother which was not very auspicious because people would criticize him for going alone to Vaikuntha Loka and not carrying with him Suniti who had given him so much Vajrava Maharaj was considered also considered that he was not personally the Supreme. Therefore, Ka fulfilled his desires. Only then would it be possible Ka could immediately understand his mind. He told Dhruva that his mother was also going with him. This incident proves that a pure devotee like Dhruva Maharaj can fulfill all his desires by the grace of the Lord. He becomes exactly like the Lord. And thus whenever he thinks of anything, his wish is immediately fulfilled. Thus end the Bhaktivedanta Swami. Translation of purport of Canto 4, chapter 12, verse 32 of the Srimad Bhagavatam in the manner of Dhruva Maharaj goes back to God him it Hare Krishna. So here we can see how Dhruva Maharaj, he was so grateful and so considerate, he's going back to Godhead. But he's thinking that it wasn't for my mother who had asked me to look for Krishna, look for Bhagavan. Then today I won't be going back to Godhead. So how can I go back without my mother? She's the one who guided me. Of course, the very next verse here says ITI vya vas sitam Cassia Biavasaya Sugotamao Dar Sayam as Satur Devin Puro Yanena Gadget the great associates of Vaikuntha Lokananda and Sunanda could understand the mind of Dhruva Maharaj. And thus they showed him that his mother Suniti was going forward in another plane. Because Suniti is a guru, she's going ahead. He didn't have to worry. So here it also shows that anybody who helps someone to advance in their ka consciousness, they also may be in this position as a Vajra pradashakha guru. Varjma means all or pota. Pota means pad. Same spelling actually, pota Pradashaka pata P A T H path, but it's pronounced pata Padarshak or path demonstrated path shore who shows the way, shows the path. So there's various kinds of siksha guru. So what kind is who's showing the way? Preliminary basis. Just like someone may tell. Braja Bihari from Vrindavan is Braja Bihari. He told a story once he shared with us how he came to Ka consciousness. He was working as an accountant in New York City in one big firm, chartered accountants. And at that time, RLA Prabhupada was coming for the Central Park Rath Yatra on fifth Avenue. And he didn't know anything about the Hare Kishita Bunpe. But one of his friends, he had the book Cheat Hare Krishna Be Happy by George Harrison. So he gave that book to him and he said, you know, this Hare Krishna is very nice. You should go there having a festival. And he said that, you know, that time I was just a normal, you know, like a young man in the material world. And my friend, he's working in the same office with me. We would talk about all the mundane things. We liked music and we like, liked girls and he liked all. So he didn't know, but he was not like someone who was very spiritual. But he just told me this nice thing to go see. Hare Krishna gave me the book and I read Asama, this is really far out. And I went and he actually saw Prabhupada, if I remember correctly. And he saw the festival that was like for the lady. So then he was still remembering how that guy next to him gave him the book and convinced him that he should go to the festival and spoke about Hare Krishna so that he looks to that person like a Varjma pradasha guru. Although somehow he. Although he is nothing special as far as being very big advanced. But he gave that without that push, without that little gift or something, he wouldn't have gone so like that. Sometimes there are people in your spiritual life that help you to just take that little effort to go and see the devotees to practice proper Tel Sevaria kindly about. When he was in the Gandhi movement, one friend drank him to see Bhakti Siddhartha Saraswili Thakur. You can always sense a kind of appreciation how their friend took him. When he met Srila Bhakti Siddhartha Saraswati Thakur. Then his whole life changed and he got the first order. Why don't you spread Lord Chaitanya's movement to the Western countries when he was just a young man? Freedom fighter, freedom, you know, independent woman, whatever. Young people tend to be a little revolutionary. And what we want to do is dovetail that revolutionary nature. They should revolt against being in the bondage of the material world. No big advantage to revolting against your parents and against society. All these things. But what's very important is to revolt against the bondage of mind. That's the proper way to dot him. Anyway, Prabhupada was appreciating how his parents, they always encouraged him to be Ka conscious. They even said that we have Ka conscious parents. This is very either essential or important factor. Own Ka consciousness. So you appreciate very much the help they gave to him. He would watch his father doing the Pujas. See, he wanted also I want to do Puja. But since these were installed deities, he's not initiated how he would do puja. So instead they get him a small deity and go papa. So he was worshipping his own Gopal Devi imitating his father. Whatever father was doing in Sarah's life as a five year old child, he's also doing the Puja. Now if somebody goes back to Godhead like Dhruva Maharaj did or Prabhupada and naturally anybody who did anything to help them, they also go back. But in this case it was disciple going back. Guru may not be going back, but disciple is going back. So the disciples going back. Then the Guru automatically gets to go back. So this was also in this next verse. Prabhupada was always recording his spiritual master who said that if I can get even one soul to go back to Godhead, then I think my mission of reaching Ka consciousness to be successful. I don't find any qualification myself. I am a totally. If I look to any qualification, I just find disqualifications. I'm only here by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada and his followers. Good association. Bhakti Vajranand, Swami Maharaj. So then one of my disciples, you see, can get back to Godhead. And I'm crippled in so many ways. Then there's hope for me to get back to Ka. Prabhupada also used to preach like that. He said in the next verse, the Ka consciousness movement is spreading now all over the world. And sometimes I think that even though I'm crippled in so many ways, if one of my disciples becomes as strong as Dhruva Maharaj, then he'll be able to carry me with him to lay quinta lokhan questions at the end. At the end. So sometimes the disciple may be more strong than the instructor. In the case of Dhruva Maharaj, he realized Ka. His mother didn't realize Ka. He did so many things even at a very small age. But because his mother guided him to look for Krishna, therefore she also gives him credit. Also how we should be like Juva Maharaj. He was respectful to his his mother who helped him. He didn't have to think about Narad Muni getting back to Godhead. Because anyway he goes back to Godhead whenever he wants to. He sees Vishnu, he's already liberated souls. He doesn't have to worry about God, so he's worrying about his mother. That gratefulness, I think, is also something very wonderful. And we should all emulate that. There may be so many people. Sometimes people are just fixed on their Diksha Guru. They don't want to appreciate anybody else. But we can learn also from Guru Maharaj to respect all of the saintly devotees who help us in our spiritual life. It's not the Diksha Guru is doing his part, giving the mantra and giving the instructions and accepting the service offering to Ka. But there are many other devotees. They're also helping, giving association, kizunga, giving guidance, sometimes giving some chastisement if someone's going off the track. All these things are needed to stay on the proper path of devotional service. This whole pastime is something very wonderful. You can learn so much from it. There are different kinds of Sikhsha Guru. There are some who are just showing the way in the beginning. And there are some who give some relevant instructions. And there are some who actually, just like Diksha Guru, they are representing Ka directly. All the Siksha gurus are representing Ka to various degrees. But one, we accept the instructions just like we do from the Diksha Guru. That's something special. So that's when someone has a personal sikshanguru. Others are there who to various degrees, they help us in the way, give us a Relevant instruction when we need it. Even Dhruva Maharaj sometimes he got distracted when he was king and he got into a big war with the Yakshas at that time the Swayamu came and instructed him. So he was like instructing Shiksha Guru being instructing spiritual master. So he instructed, you know that there's no need of carrying on with this war because your brother Wat Uttama was killed. But for that, how many thousand of Yakshas already died? So for one person you don't have to annihilate an entire race. Sometime in war, big fights, you get carried away and you lose sight of what's going on. So Joha had that result. So Sikhsha Guru for that moment he was specifically focusing on his mother. Because his mother told him in the beginning, look for Krishna Lord Chaitanya. Conclusion Winding up Messenger of Time House Lord Chitania he was so grateful in his dealings with different devotees. In fact, the Needa Lori who served ka sincerely. Then Lord Chaitanya became very pleased by that. When he saw the Maharaj Pratav Rudha sweeping the road in front of the Ratkara he became very mercifully inclined to Bhutta Bhutta Maharaj. And he gave him so many blessings. Finally on the roth day, someone advised Prita Bhruta Maharaj he should go wearing ordinary cloth, take off his king's cloth, go wearing a simple white doti and tilak. And when Lord Chaitanya is resting, just massage his lotus feet without introducing himself. Because Lord Chaitanya said, I don't want to meet a king. Because kings are materialists. Usually a few say something like that. Some big leader would get offended because they're very proud people. If you say I want to associate with you because you're a materialist, probably get very offended by that. But Lord Chaitani used such harsh language. Instead the king became more eager to see Lord Chaitanya. He said, why? In fact he at one point said, I think I'll commit suicide if by being a king I'm not allowed to see Lord Chaitanya. What is the use of living? The only one thing in my life I want is to serve Lord Chaitanya. Now that one thing I can't get because why I'm a king. So because he was not an ordinary king who was just in enjoying mood. He was a king who was really serving Krishna because he swept the road. Then Lord Chaitanya decided, I'll give him mercy. But he cannot officially let him see him because he's already declared that I won't see any king. So somehow he didn't ever say anything to anybody. But this arrangement was made by the Lord's devotee also. How the Lord's devotee, naturally they do what the Lord wants. So some devotee got inspired to tell the Maharaj, you just go like this as a Vaishnava. You don't go as a king, don't ask as the king. You want to see Lord Chindi, just go there and do some seva. Don't introduce yourself, don't say anything. Just so many devotees at work. So after dancing for so many hours in the Rath Yatra, then he went and was lying down in the Vrindavan gardens, the Jagannath Bhalava gardens, resting by Viparasana, not too far from the Nand Sarovar. And there Pratap Ruddha Maharaj, he came and he just, just like this, as a Vaishnava, he came and asked that the Lord is going to massage his lotus feet. That time Lord Sita lying on a stone slab after so many hours of dancing, he's perspiring and so much effort he was doing. So the devotees said, you know, go for it. And he went and started massaging the Langa of word Chaitanya. And he started singing the Gita, the Ras leela git, the five chapters in the Srimad Bhagavatam 10th canto on Ras Gila. And then like this, at one point he is saying so many nice verses about the mercy of Lord Krishna and how anyone who gives Krishna mercy is so merciful. Lord Chaitanya just sat up and embraced Prataruta Maharaj and he said, you are, I don't know who you are, but you are the most kind person to me to give me these beautiful verses that Ushimat Bhagavatam, these priceless verses. So I am a poor Sannyasi. I have nothing to repay you. All I can do is give you my embrace. And then he hugged Pratap Rudda Maharaj who just completely broke down in tears. And he was completely in ecstasy, more than what he could ever expect. And both of them were crying in ecstasy for different reasons. So like that Lord Caitanya, he was grateful to his devotee for any little service. So we will never find a more reciprocative, more grateful, kind master in this world or anywhere. So we can take advantage of his mercy, engage in our devotional service, be grateful to all the people who help us in our advancement and in this way head steadily back home back to Godhead taking as many people with us as possible. Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna. Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram. Hare Ram. Ram Ram. Diya, you have a question? Some people have gone and come back. Brahma's four sons of four Kumaras. They went to the spiritual world and they came back and they describe it. That description is here in this fourth canto of the Srimad Bhagavata Godamuni. He went now this spiritual it describes here in the next verses. Dhruva Maharaj was passing through the space. He gradually saw the planets of the solar system and on the path he saw the demigods and their airplanes showing flowers upon him like rain. Dhruva Maharaj thus surpassed the seven planetary systems of the great sages who are known as the Sapta Rishi. Beyond that region he achieved the transcendental situation of permanent life in the planet where Lord Vishnu lives. The self effulgent Vaikuntha planets by whose illumination alone all the illuminating planets within this material world give off reflected light cannot be reached by those who are not merciful to other living entities. Only persons who constantly engage in welfare activities for other living entities enriched of I could to planet persons who are peaceful, equipoised, cleansed and purified, who know the art of pleasing all other living entities keep friendship only with the devotees of the Lord. They alone can very easily achieve the perfection of going back home once again. In this way you can only know from your mother. Your mother will say this is your father. Of course now you can hear DNA calculation but they tried in one place there was some rape victim and they wanted to take all the DNA of that city to find out who is. So every man was going and giving his DNA voluntarily to be tested. You know, it's in Australia, one player, I don't know finally if they found the guy. It's a very hard way to find your father. Something that they describe that as an example that if you want to know who God is or we want to understand whether God has a place to live that we find out from the Vedas. Vedas are like our mother and these scriptures that reveal about the spiritual world actually according to Hinduism, according to Buddhism, according to all the eastern religions there are so many devas living on higher planets, you see. But modern science, even now when I saw one of the big billionaires in America that co founder of Microsoft, he's recently given so many millions or billions of dollars for a big telescope to find out if there's life on other planets they want to get A radio wave. They're thinking that other planets, like the demigods are using radio. Like Brahma is listening to the radio. He doesn't need to have radio. Live action. We are poor people. We cannot have a live performer every time you want. Okay, let there be dancing. So we had to have radio and video tv. But this recording is a shadow. But they have the live performers. So I don't know if they'll find that way, if they'll find life or not. But according to the Eastern religion, all planets have got life in one form or another. You see, even the Buddhists believe that they are devas. They believe in Brahma. In Thailand you'll see Brahma temple. Prominent Brahma temples are there. Although in Vedic culture we don't have Brahma temple, but there have been Brahma Devi in some places and Bangkok. So we have one Brahma temple in Puskar Tirtha. Because Brahma was Jewish not to have only one temple. So these Devas, they're seeing that the Dhruva, he's going beyond us. He goes out of the material world. We don't see him anymore, goes into the Nirvana and then you don't see where he goes. He leaves the material worlds. So Dhruva is saying he is going to the Vaikuntha planet. You see around the material world there is a layer of called Nirvana. In the Vedas it says there's two types of Nirvana. There's the material Nirvana and there's a Brahma Nirvana. In the fifth, Cantoshima and Bhagavatam it describes about from a Nirvana that within Nirvana there's two layers, one higher layer called the spiritual Nirvana. And beyond that there's spiritual planets. But nobody can know that what's beyond unless they by perception, unless you go in it. But some have gone and come back and again gone. And they're telling the Vedas, are explaining. And here Dhruva Maharaj is bursting from that place. Spiritual airplane is coming and taking him and everyone in the material world. They are following him as far as they can. And then they can't follow anymore. And they see him go, go, go, go to the spiritual track. And she says, anybody who listens to this pastime with faith of Dhruva Maharaj, they get all kinds of spiritual benefits. Material, spiritual, everything. By hearing the narration of Dhruva Maharaj, one can fulfill desires for wealth, reputation, increased duration of life. It is so auspicious that one can even go to a heavenly planet or attain Dhruva Loka, which was achieved by Dhruva Maharaj. Just by hearing about it, the demigods also became pleased. Because this narration is so glorious, it is so powerful that it can counteract all the results of one sinful action. Now, that way, how do we know that there is Nirvana? Even we have not seen it. Because Lord Buddha, he was in meditation, he realized Nirvana. He told people, this is what I realized now. He never said there was not a God. He never said there was not a spiritual world. People ask him, so don't talk about all these things. First you come to that level, then you can understand. First you realize, and then after that, see, he was for getting people to realize you. So some of these devotees, we have to have faith that he's saying it. He's realized it, he's saying it. We can see he's a very exceptional person. He's got so many wonderful qualities. Therefore must be true. So like that also so many great devotees are there. Great spiritual masters, great realized soul. They have gone through this expert. They are telling us that it's written down in the scripture. So now we take this as understanding. Also Krishna opened his mouth. It says that Yasoda looked in the mouth of Krishna and saw the material and spiritual worlds. She could see also the spiritual worlds. We asked the Deva who wrote the Vedas. He went in meditation. It said he saw the entire material world. He saw Nirvana. He went through the Nirvana and saw the spiritual world. He saw the vaikuntala, everything. He could see the whole how everything is coming from Ka. Then he came back into his body, came back to his bodily, this external consciousness. So there are many people, either by meditation they have realized or by going and coming. So they have written all these things. So from that we can know if somebody goes. Maybe some villager in Mayapur were living in a village. Some villagers have never gone to Calcutta. So they asked their friends, what is it like to go to Calcutta? They say, oh, it was very bad place, so much bad hair. And there the people are like this and like that. It's very big, you know, you can imagine. I know such villager. In their whole life, they never left the village. Once in their life they went to Krishnagar, which is small district town, you know, it's like maybe once they went. He must a big thing. They went to Krishnagar. Otherwise whole life they were just in their village. They never left. Maybe you have someone like that here. Only been on the estate and otherwise, I don't know, never been to London. So then, if you want to find out what London is like or what Calcutta is like or what the Colombo lying. And maybe you have to ask someone who went there. So if they went and came back and told you, this is what it's like. So many people are going, then you can believe must be there, right?
