A recorded lecture (YouTube) by Jaya Pataka Swami discussing Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 5.14.38 and the nature of material suffering versus devotional bliss. The speaker contrasts momentary material pleasures (gaps of relief) with continuous happiness of devotees, emphasizes the power of association with pure devotees, and gives many anecdotal examples (prison ministry, festivals, hospital bedsides, book distribution) illustrating how Krishna consciousness transforms lives. The talk closes with exhortations to personal purity, chanting Hare Krishna, and Sai devotional service.
Foreign. You just change the words by word. Sam Translation by his Divine Great Siva Vince Bhaktivedatta Swami Prabhupada the path of this material world is full of material mysteries, and various troubles disturb the condition. So the old times. Thus ends. Srimad bhai mutant 5th canto 14, chapter 38, verse in the manner of the forest of Enjoyment. So here we end the chapter and the course of the journey. But the verse explains how the path of an eternal world is full of eternal miseries. It was very interesting how Prabhupada explained that sovereignty. So the gap between the suffering is little. Sometimes they accept happiness as it appears between the gaps. Continuous suffering with little gaps are happiness. I have a problem explaining this. First, very graphically about Danda General and how they used to dump the person under the river water, lake water, some thief or some criminal, as a punishment. When they saw the bubbles come out, they knew he was about to drown. Then they lift him out from the water. So you get a breath of air just when your boats are drowning. That's like bliss, right? So the example is that little breath of air. That's the nectar, the gap of happiness. In comparison, devotees are always happy, right? If everything is harkishna, since they're not doing anything for sense gratification, there's no reason to be sad. Of course, maybe in our neophyte states, we're not yet fully fixed in that consciousness. So then we, to the extent that we're in material consciousness, we get beaten around by the weights of material energy. There's that famous story about the world's best act circus. There was a big advertisements all over the place Town World's best Act Greater Shaman Circus Huh Soleil so they're letting one person at a time into the circus, though everybody's queued up. So they let you in and they want you there, and they put you on your chair, and then they beat you, whip you and everything. And then they come out. First of, how was it? Oh, it's crazy. Everybody else wants the other. Why did I also experience the suffering? So everybody sing how great you want so much. Real life is like that. Some people say it's the facade how you present yourself. It's displayed also some of the examples sector in material life, our senses are demanding and then their demand itself is a kind of suffering, a kind of misery. So then when we gratify the senses demands, then we get some relief from that suffering. That relief with whatever slight sensation or pleasure there is, what we take to be happiness. Because you don't really have anything else that we have experience about. So that's why having the Sadhu Sangha association of the devotees, like he's calling it Subhashvam, then we can realize that there's another level of happiness by seeing how his knowledge is blissful. So when Sarah important point in the conclusion, he says the Krishna conscious movement is therefore trying to give everyone a chance to associate with saintly people. Therefore, all the members of this Ka Consciousness society must themselves be perfect sadhus in order to give a chance to the fallen conditioned souls. This is the best humanitarian work. The prophet wanted every one of you, every one of us, to be fully qualified sadhgurus pure devotees. He said that the devotees should become so pure that by associating with them, by talking with them, that people would get spiritual benefit by offering a service. If you are a devotee of Krishna, then if someone offers you service, they benefit by serving Vaishnava. So simply, if we can be pure Vaishnava, then everybody interacts with us. They'll get so much benefit. So that's why it's important that we do sadhana. We do our devotional service, we do our sacrifices for Krishna. Not only that it's good for us, but it's good for other people also who come in contact with me. It's a very interesting concept that how devotees can help others inspire. But I'm sure that all of you have experienced that. How many of you have been benefited by associating the devotees. And when people were doing the biography of Srila Kabad and they found that even people like professors and newspaper journalists, people you didn't really, of course they didn't adopt Ka Consciousness. But when they were interviewed about their experience with Rla Prabhupada and how they mentioned that it was a momentous occasion that actually changed their life. There's a story in the paranus about how a thief was running away from the king's soldiers were. We didn't just say have police. It was just like soldiers were everything. So then he was, you know, didn't know what to do. Then suddenly he saw there was a temple and there was a clasping outside, ran to the temple, sat down with a group. So then while he was in the class, just for a moment, we heard the class and talked about Ka Consciousness and Allah, the temporary nature of material life and all the sufferings and things like that. And then in that one moment while he was in the class, he really didn't have a change in heart and after they came to the police and went away, he ran out. But after that he became a devotee and began practicing Ka consciousness. Because of that association, I was given a public program in Poland. At the end of the class we have people like Question and answers. One young man stood up and he gave a testimony. He said that there was once a fair going on. And there were some devotees with a book table, something called Ka consecration. And three young men came up and were harassing the bhakta student. And two like distracted him while the other one ripped off the Bhagavad Gita. And then they ran off. They thought they played a little joke and then, you know, steal the final Gita. So the dad, when they want to know what they stole on me, they read it, said that after that all the three became devotees. They said, I'm one of them, I am your disciple. Another one's disciple often become the shadow of the Morgans for stealing a lot of, you know. And then Edmond hooked us to me in Lima, Peru. I think it was in Lima. It was another small town, Peru. Some city book distiller was just shimmering books. And we saw a pickpocket so many people's money. And then snatched somebody's purse and undone. Later on he was distributing and distributing. Then handed a book to somebody and took the book. And they noticed that the person was carrying that snatched thing. Or they might somehow convince the person to know the person buying to buy or Gina and turn it. Devotees can meet all kinds of people. And some people may be doing some kind of misfortune or some kind of suffering, maybe illegal things. But then somehow they get the mercy. They even have an ISKCON prison ministry. They tell all kinds of stories about the prisoners and who some bad karma that they're in prison looking at the Kaja's literature. In Malaysia, they have drug rehabilitation centers regularly about drug abuse. If you get caught doing or having a certain quantity of drugs in his death penalty. But if you're just an end user, don't have that quantity to be considered a viewer. You have the choice of going to prison or a rehab center. So one of my disciples was the director of one of the recount centers. Friedrich Ranganats. Not his promoter. He's the national headquarters. So devotees. He had devotees come there and give courses to the Indian and Chinese people. That my sinners who went through the course of Ka consciousness had a 60% success rate of not going back to 60 to 80, not going back to drugs. Whereas the normal rate was like 80% went back to drugs or even after the whole thing. So they were quite happy about it. So devotees can make a lot of difference in people's lives. Those may not be the best examples, but there's so many examples. And the point here that Prabhupada Si wanted every one of the members of the Ka Consciousness society to be perfect Sadhu in order to benefit people. Just every one of you can make a difference in people's spiritual lives. Prabhupada was explaining all of the Pujaris. You mean the RT belt? He said it's more powerful than an atomic ba. How is that more powerful than that? But it's true. The atomic bomb may decimate so many people's bodies and cities and things like that. But everybody still has to go back into repeated birth again. Just recycling, changing everything in the ultimate sense. If their body is worn off, they take birth again. Go on the next earth. Nobody has been liberated by an atomic weapon from the cycle of earth and death. But by hearing rebellion, the Ayurti offered to learn a Malala. They can destroy unlimited hermits and even liberate someone from the sacral group them create revolutions in their simple life. So sometimes the bodies don't realize how powerful actually they are, how much mercy they're carrying with them. Through the Prashant to the books, even through Gopi Chandra. There's a whole chapter in the Padma Purana dedicated to the glories of Gopi Chandra, the sea life everywhere. And when people see warned by the Vaishnavas that that can free them from just by seeing that from so many simple reactions and how those examples and how people had it on and deliver it just by seeing people with both each other. So things that we might just take for granted considering that 99 point something of the people in the planet have almost zero spiritual life. Any little bit of spiritual life has a massive change on their whole karmic situation, their whole destiny. It puts them in orbit around Ka. Maybe the initial orbit is a distant orbit, but as time goes on, as they build up more sukradi, the orbit becomes closer and closer and closer until finally they get back to Ka. So our job is to get people in Krishna's orbit. In other words, they're free agents just in Maya being kicked around like football. Any rules you like Odyssey rules or soccer rules or just getting kicked around from one situation to the next. People are very pious people. They like to do all the religious rules. And so they become happy by following the religious principles. But that doesn't mean they're spiritual religion Dharma Artha Kama Moksha. Religion is also done for material reasons. Most people do religion just for as not other than a specific spiritual purpose. I had a priest come visit me in my airport, a Roman Catholic priest from Corella. And when I proposed that people should go back to God, no God he was like really against that concept. He thought that was totally irrelevant. That what's really important is the second commandment is to serve your neighbors. It's not important to no longer have any relationship with God as such. He was an atheist actually it's quite amazing. I know many writing God can't just. I don't know some God can't just priests. This person he was love of God was not at all important. So you have many people like in India just before the final exams a lot of people become devoured disciples. They go into worship of the Goddess of learning. And before final exams so many kids come up to me and ask can I have blessings on my exam? I don't know what. What blessing is that we have spiritual messages. So like that people do religion, they get over some material situation. Afterwards they tend to forget but actually be engaged in direct service to the supreme war in devotional service that is so rare in Lord Chitan is the whole sequence of Chaitanya Cherry Navida that out of all the living entities you have a bathroom, you have a wombing and a reactor. Better than them are the ones with four legs and better than them the ones with two legs. The human beings amongst the human beings you have more aboriginal people that may not have developed gang consciousness very much. Of course not one. Sometimes there's a modern society is like a white Aborigines on Sunday. Sometimes they wonder what their origins. They seem to have their own songs. They have a lot of kind of Adivasis. They need to be able to have different cultural backgrounds. They're not exactly veic. And then we have from there you go out to people who actually follow Vedic standards of vanajrama. But most of them they don't really follow. They just give live service and they say follow this religion, that religion. They don't actually follow the principles of religion. They just give lip service and go on doing a lot of sinful activities. So that's the vast majority people that among standards together few people, one out of a thousand of them who actually strictly follows the Karma Kanta process which means fruitive activities during the religious activities for Samatura. Out of thousands of those you get one person that actually understands that there's something like a spirit soul and that of spiritual life beyond material life. And amongst thousands of those that has a basic theoretical understanding. It's very hard to find one who really realize there are thousands of such realized Gyanas. Is hard to find one devotee of Krishna and the devotees most incapable of helping other people. Because Krishna is so purifying. Any contact with Ka has this amazing effect on people's lives. Describe the Bhakti otaku in this song. I have brought the medicine for this Kaliyuga tradition. So Lord, she sent me the same exaction. Lord, she said, I brought this Mahabharra which is the medicine. Please take it, beg for it. So this is a special medicine. Sometimes it is about epidemics and flying with special medical teams and have antidotes. And by getting that antidote people can be saved. Or at least not in the Desert Storm. Chemical and biological weapons. Many people say they have some kind of nerve gas. They're looking for the antidote. So somehow the people in Kali Yuga they have got this Kali infection. And Hare Krishna Mahavakra is the Anador. One of my disciples told me how his wife him having spiritual problems and he was really suffering. And so he just told just chant Hare Krishna after anything else. I'll do the cooking, I'll clean the house. I'll do everything and just chant. Just chant your 16th house. And after see some Asha took him up and started chanting again. And after chanting, all the problems right here still went away. Now she's also cleaning and cooking. Right now the best investment is to make sure that your Krishna conscious. Otherwise all these different problems. So many different problems. Even Prabhupada was saying sometimes there's little problems with individuals. If we're going to have a big time together. Usually just in the Kirtan, about 80, 90%, 100% of the problems can get resolved. Just like in the Bhagavatam. It says that the whole ocean of birth and death is reduced to the size. And the calves impression mud. It's not that the ocean goes away, it's that it shrinks. You just step over. For everybody else who doesn't have this mantra in devotional service, the ocean still looks like an ocean. Get this mantra. Reduces accounts. You can stop all by eating. Of course, for most people, they can't understand what benefit I take. Recently two of my disciples were helping their grandfather. He was in the deathbed in the hospital. So they went to see him when he was really suffering. They saw how horrible death is. I mean, it's like his mind is going everywhere. I can't pass and trigger anything. Even before I used to channel there was a little devoid of mine really delirious and his groan speak it was painful everywhere, tossing and tiring. So they just kind of grabbed onto him and told him, you know granddad, you gotta chant. And what will I get by saying these words? What's the meaning? What? Why? Just stop it. Don't worry about it, just do it. My grandchildren got to push their grandparents a little bit. So if they have something special and didn't see so they got up to chant. As soon as he was chanting, then he was much more peaceful. So they can make so much of a difference. Another disciple I told this story here, Luke 21, about going to Argentina when the father was at coma. Imagine he says it only about everybody. Imagine she was Roman Catholic, basically. So she she's higher Krishna word study with her husband love and husband's Tamil. So she went to back to Buenos Aires when her father was in a coma. And when she got into the hospital room then her mother and sisters and brother, the whole clan was there. When she came in, one of the sisters said he's looking at him, Daddy, look at him, he's completely cold. Where's the video on his stomach chastising and belittling this game here. Let me see. Look at the father's there combo. Big grimace on his face. So then she sent off, started to read the Bhagavad Gita. Very happy to see you. Maya pura Almas. So she started reading Bhatavagita. And then suddenly, like the father's expression started to change. From a grimace she came a smile. The sister looked and said Bobby, look at Penny's smiling. And the wife came over and looked just I haven't seen him smile in 10. But when he was in the comb, he never smiled. So then they realized that if he's smiling his consciousness must be in a good place. And they all became so amazed by the that's what I feel that situation. Of course, you all had this situation here not so long ago for the nurses. And everyone in the hospital said how they were so much affected or depressed or moved by the Lord is helping another Good morning. In their last moment. So this way the kid. But then after that the mother, the sister, as soon as they stop sharing the Bible with either Hare Krishna in the father would go from a smile to a king. So then they'd have to keep, you know, round the clock chanting, reading like that. So they all kept doing it because it's only they made them smile. So the whole family chant is very Christian. So I mean like so many examples of how devotees change people's lives. How even a little moment of association and make such a big difference in people. So for that reason everyone should really try to make sincere devotees so that they'll get back to Ka at the same time. So that by there being devotees, even if you're devoting of the devotee then you're also very deer to Ka6 kingdom. So by being a devotee of a devotee then you can change the people. Then become a pattern with the Durham. Wherever he went, it became a place of pilgrimage. So that's what devotees were like places of pilgrimage. That wherever they go, in their office, in their school, they can change people. There was. You hear when they have like sometimes devotees tell them share some of the things that happen in their lives. And then they realize how Krishna consciousness is very mystical experience. And how by chanting Hare Krishna and getting other people to chant our chants such a very big makes a big difference in their lives. Not that everybody necessarily moves into a temple and becomes an ashram dweller or something. That's not what Krishna consciousness reaches only a knowledge. But they become devotees and they become changed. Just recently, originally I've been in India for the past month. Before the last month of June, last few days I was practicing a windmill in Bryansky, Russia Music festival on the side of the Volga river. In the Volga region near Samara. It's like the Russian equivalent of the Kuma Nara or something. There's only 250,000 people instead of 30 million. I mean I mentioned the lunar which doctrines to. And that's. That's different because that's like hard rock. You have people who are totally. They're in a rock and roll mood. This was more like family oriented music. Folk music, people with guitars, singing Dutch and folk songs. Little stages all over the place. So we had our camp with 400 pineapple and sage candle and we started doing. We had a bar, nap table round all kinds of things. And then finally when nightingale my familiar little lunch came out, brought me other people started his kirtan. So by about middle at 3 o' clock in the morning blew out the amplifier notes. But around 11 o' clock one lady joined the kirtan. And then by about 12 o' clock she was up on the stage. She was right there till 3 o' clock in the tenancy. She's asking wow, what was that? What is this? What are you people doing? She Says she's a master's degree student from university and came there for the music festival camp. I would camp song all tents, camp out in the woods, country thing. And she chanted for four or five hours and said I never felt happier in my life. She slept with the tent overnight. And the secret being what would be the morning for the morning laughs and things like that. So just a few hours of chanting completely changed us that she wants to go deep into it. Then a little later that morning a couple came up to speak to me. So we joined her singing last night and we couldn't leave them. We were there for, you know, to 3 in the morning, started at 10. I said I don't know what you were singing. Can you tell me something about. I mean, I don't know anything while you were singing or anywhere. I just know that when I was singing with you, I never felt happier in my entire life. I was sitting in the stage and Paul Atwith in the room of the Raj and he was like pointing out thousands of young people jumping up and down chanting Hare Krishna Pravadas giving everybody a chant with his begging Hare Krishna. You see him, you don't see his act, you don't see him in action. He really does some jumping. If you can do this, they would be chanting. And if they weren't chanting, what hope would they be for them? And you can see like the Maharajas is very ruled by his compassion. And that's the compassion that Srila Prabhupada brought Krishna consciousness all over the world. He's inspired so many devoids still carrying it out in all different ways in different places. Here you're carrying around but then so long. And we should really understand that sometimes we get distracted by petty things and the material world. We lose our focus on what is really important in life and how important it is for people to chant Hare Krishna and to be ka conscious and to get out of it the cycle of birth and death and to get back to Krishna. And this is a very simple sublime way. So just know that. I mean the Russian festival we were just there in the middle of these 200,000 Russian people could never many of them ever live. But they chanted completely experience with the same day instant bliss. So definitely the Hare Krishna bhakta is not the porpancy. It's not like the porpancy is not there or the devotees chant. We worshil Prabhupada with warn Maharashtra and the ashram of Vivoda Bhavi and I didn't usually join Prabhupada when he was traveling around India because I was busy raising. But this time it was like 76 or something. I was inspired to go and get some association for Sri Prabhupada. So I went off to meet him and went to this ashram. He was invited by Menorah Bhavya who was one of the well known followers of Bhatiji in India. And here in Sadhu he did many fasts for stopping the cow slaughter and such practice. The same thing was that he really taught all his Ashramites of his Vichay at the Bhavam of Gita. He's really into the Bhav Gita. So he had a Gita World conference. So he invited Srila Prabhupada to speak at that. But invite other people. So there was some Swamiji from the Divine Eye Society Swami and so Vidala Baha he was doing Babuna at that time. It was a breath. So he wasn't speaking. So he had his contribution was his followers chanting the Bhaiwad Gita. I know why they have signs many places. And then problems. I had the devotees chant or Krishna. So they're all chant think your time. Everybody was rocking. Then I followed you. The king the problem I should have been all that Bhawi need a chain. And then the slayer his turn was to speak. So I guess he wanted to juice up his presentation. So he started this. Okay, let's do. We'll do also Kirk Tan. But his Kirktan was a little Krishna Satch is there. How do you feel? Krishna Prah was like really offended. It's like almost like. It's like ridiculous. So the doors down everybody's relieved because this was such a weird chanting was doing that probably could. So the Kirtans and everybody all the hundreds of people that they all were laughing and getting into it. So Prabhupada just blew them up afterwards. Prabhupada he said just see when the Maya bodies were chanting and they're all bling. It was horrible. Nobody was moving when the devotees chanted. Everybody was moved and chanting said because you're all pure devotees. No, no, you're pure devotees. Any devotee that's trying to serve Krishna for his pleasure has appeared the different degrees of righteous unright pure devotees. And half right. Fully right. So Prabhupada is a fully mature puritivot now that it's going to different stages. But Prabhupada considered all the devotees who were chanting the Ka's pleasure like as pure devotees. And the Proof you saw was how people by their chanting they were. They were duo chanting savarkas. So that purity. The Prabhupada said purity is the force that we need to maintain. And that force we can help so many other people. The medicine is there, the Haryana is there. When we chant, it will have effect. It will teach and help people. Any question? On the one hand, if a person serves you, you have to let him as part of it. He would probably wear wear rings because someone gave him the rings. And if they wear the ring, that helps them spiritually. Because it's to do the service. For this is what made the girl that was given so many other. I'm wearing a green cooperation. But so it's something the devotee even though they don't want to be served. But sometimes they have to accept as a wedding exchange. Some extremely humble. They didn't consider themselves to be like show. This is the time that Shiva was asked to forgive Chapo Gopal when he had leprosy. What Chittenda is walking by the side of the guaranteed Chapa Gopal fella would speak, beg for forgiveness. And he can only be forgiven by Shivas. Whenever suddenly Mochitan gets so heavy. He was so angry that he committed this offense against the devotee. So the devotees went to Shiva. I said, shukran, forgive him. He goes, how can I? Who could have had me more than the worm? This Rashidas. You may think that, but why she's having things. You're devoted even if you don't think you are. And because Chan Gopal offended you, his room will be burning. You want someone to burn because of you. You better know whether you like or not. Forgive it even if you're not at the moment. Just because what she said thinks you will. Sometimes you have to use all kinds of logic to break through. The melody was when he was gav hashem. He was being sent out to do a book distribution library party in Eastern Europe and Russia. Grandpa called all the sannyasis and seeing the lawyers in the room of my emporium, he said, these are many. One group is very anxious, praying and preaching. We should all bless him. We bless him and prophesy. Who are we? No, no. Your devotees are Krishna. If you bless the Krishna will listen to him. It's your duty to bless people. So I prophesied whatever blessing you had gave to me. So there's that aspect of it. Even though I'm allowed to. But that's what the Prabhupada said. We should leave somebody solemn strictly and by doing some service, others will benefit someone who's not following their excuse too. The Satavas, they were like, I was so humble that I didn't want to accept any service. And he had to offer the service without even being asked for. He'd go out in his sweep the ashram, clean up the forest where he had his nature call. He did that for three years. And finally, Lokanath Goswami, who is doing this, because before maritime would ask for initiation. So I'm not getting anything. But after Maritime serving, after three years, without ending even hope of segregation, I think it was recognition and supervision. Thank you for watching our videos.
