20020606 || Japa Seminar & Kids Class || Dāmodaradeśa #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

A recorded seminar and children’s class (part of the Jaya Pataka Swami archives) teaching Krishna-conscious devotional life through interactive drama, Q&A, and storytelling. Participants role-play virtues (patience, determination, avoiding bad association), discuss devotional principles (association, six exchanges of devotional love, initiation and discipline), and narrate childhood pastimes of Lord Chaitanya (Nimai) to make theological concepts accessible to children. The tone alternates between didactic, storytelling, and playful/encouraging for youngsters.
Thank you.
Anyone can guess what quality Patience?
Patience. We've got these wonderful books here. They're all about spiritual life. Fabulous books here. Have you ever heard about to reincarnation and yoga and meditation? Yes, I've heard all about that stuff. I've even read Monkey Honesty. Carol, we haven't seen you for ages. Nice to see you too. We're just talking about you the other day. This party coming up next year. You don't around with us anymore. We used to come over the old days and it's so much fun. Well, actually no. I'm not really into these things anymore. Have you ever heard about reincarnation and yoga and meditation? You can enjoy even more. This is a very wonderful book. I can see that you're very interested in spiritual life. Have you ever heard of Krishna? This is a wonderful book. It tilts your hands. You look nice. Yeah.
Okay. Which quality did that book distributor show? Determination. There was a confidence, commitment.
That was one of the features. But she was more determined. No matter what, she was confident in her life choice. Maybe you can give your own explanation.
Show confidence.
Okay, next group is here. Guess what it is.
Okay.
Try it.
Try it again.
No smoking.
Ah, I know, I know, I know.
You got six choices here already. Three of them gone.
So that's it.
Ensuring following regular principles. And that means avoiding breaking them. Yeah, I realized that.
Fifth temple, very nice street, high standard devotee Pujari chanting. Japan here. Usually usual routine, Gucci worship. She's happy doing her service. And then suddenly another devotee walks in. Oh, such a nice devotee. Look, she always engaged. She always doing service. Happy, concentrated, fit. Maybe I should make friendship with her, you know, she can teach me something. Hi Boj Prema. How are you? Nice to see you. Yes. Do you enjoy doing your service? Yes. You know, I was thinking. I want to invite you over to my place and we may enjoy something else together. Would you like to come? Yeah, sure. Okay, let's go. Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna. Krishna. Krishna. Hari. Hari. So we arrived to my place and I've got little bit of Maya say tv an interesting movie on. Have you ever seen interesting movie on tv Rajaprim? No. Okay, I'll teach you what it is. Okay. Here's some Jagannath Sa. We can enjoy Jagannathal sad with some movie, you know. And learn some interesting topic about life. Because you know, Krishna consciousness practicing is so tough, isn't it? Yeah. Have you experienced it yourself? I haven't experienced how tough it is. No. Okay. Well, okay. So we enjoyed the movie. We Finished up Mahaprasad and that was lovely. I really enjoyed your association. Would you like to come over next time to my place? Alright. I'm happy to hear it. So I will not be lonely anymore. We can enjoy together. Okay. So I see her off to the temple and next day she starts from chanting Japa, doing her puja and all her regular routine. But what she has experienced was amazing. She was trying to concentrate on Japa but she was sort of thinking in background. Wouldn't it be nice to see Rasika Seva again and watch movie or maybe do some other interesting activities? Just to relax a bit, you know, because life is too intense. So then Rajafa comes again. Harry, Paul, Roger, Prema. I've got great idea for you. Would you like to go somewhere else where you have never been before? Maybe to a feta? I haven't seen a feather. Oh, Theta, you mean maybe Booth. You know, entertaining theatre, you know, posters, stuff like that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, let's make it. So two devotees went and enjoyed another polestar entertainment. And was it great? Yes. Yeah, that was great. Would you like to continue your service? Enchanting. No. Why not that quick? That quick. You still can, you know, continue chanting and service and go in there and sort of, you know, do some pieces in different fields of activities. So what would you prefer to do? Maybe go somewhere else. Go somewhere else. That's a great idea. Let me think about it. So I'll think about it and let you know and take you to that place. All right. Now, Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna. Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare.
Which one didn't they follow? Sangha Jagat. It's supposed to be avoiding bad association.
Instead she fell into bad association.
So you can see the negative result of bad association.
And she wanted to give up her devotional service.
Now the last one is only Mama myself.
You're flowing very nicely. My guru Mahaj, I served so nicely. And he served his guru Maharaj so nicely. And you are simply following your spiritual master. Nobody will guess that one, right?
Thank you all for the special Australian. What do you call this? The.
One of those awards for drama. The Oscars. The Oscars.
Very good.
Thank you all for your enthusiasm. Yeah.
Can we have a deep breathing after that a debriefing in counseling if someone.
Plays a different role.
So we might end up following.
Okay, now I turn it over to his Holiness.
It's sa.
Here's the.
What they call synchronized dancers with the sequined saris. I think it was Charlie wants synchronized swimming. So now we got synchronized dancing. This way.
Down.
No, not now.
Yesterday I know.
The Mayavadis and other.
Atheists do not want the Ka Conscious movement to develop because it educates people in God consciousness such as the policy of the atheist. There's no benefit in killing a snake melting bananas because the milk will never be satisfied. Because the snake will never be satisfied.
On the contrary, with taking milk and.
Bananas, a snake simply becomes more poisonous. If a snake is given milk to drink, its poisonous simply increases. For the similar reason, we should not disclose our mind to serpent myobodies and carnage. Such disclosures will never help. It's best to avoid association with them completely. Never ask them about anything confidential because they cannot give good advice. Nor should we extend invitations to Myobalis and atheists nor accept their invitations. For by such intimate intermingling we may become affected by their atheistic mentality. Sangotsang Jaya takes common. It is the negative injunction of this verse. We should refrain from giving anything or accepting anything from Maya bodies and atheists also want Vishayir anna kaile dusto hayamum by eating food prepared by worldly people. Once Magna comes with you, unless one is very advanced, he is unable to utilize everyone's contribution to further the Ka Conscious movement. Therefore, on principle one should not accept charity from the Myavadi saint gifts. Indeed she cheer to the Mahabhara has forbidden devotees to associate even with ordinary men who are too addicted to material Sanskrit abuse. The conclusion is that we should always keep company with devotees. Conservative devotional principles follow in the footsteps of Acharyas and full obeisances. Obedience to carrying the glories of the spiritual Master. This I shall be able to develop our devotional service in Dharma Krishna, a devotee who is neither a neophyte nor a Mahabhagava Greatly advanced devotee but is within the middle status of devotional soul is expected to love the Supreme Personality God and make friends with the devotees. Show favor to the ignorant and rejected jealous of Devonia. In this verse there is the brief mention of the process of making loving transactions with the Supreme Personality of Godhead and making friends with the devotees. According to the Dadapi principle, an advanced devotee is supposed to spend at least 50% of his income during service of the Lord and his devotees. An example in his life. With whatever one's income, 50% should be spent on behalf of Ka and his devotees and this will fulfill the demands of the Madhu.
So.
What are the six things? Six exchanges in love. What's the first one? Give gift giving gifts and charity that I can give. Next one Receive.
Receive.
Receiving gives charity. He really wants mind and confidence to a devotee. Fourth one, what does it mean? Who can say? Raise your hands. Inquiring and revealing the minds are the same, right? That's also correct. And it said revealing one's mind, a confidence, acquiring confidential, honoring Prasad and six honoring and accepting the same. What Korma is so expert at giving for Santa Monica, we are always indebted to him. He cannot reciprocate property. So you tell someone tells like what's their problem? What's. And then they inquire what's what's the Krishna conscious solution? That person then advises what's the solution? Hearing devotees when they're talking. This is also part of it. We offer different services to the devotees, gift services. So what's very interesting I found is how Srila Prabhupada explains in the beginning how international society for Ka consciousness has been established to facilitate these six kinds of loving exchanges between the lords in Prabhupada. He gives the example that single handedly started a Ka Conscious movement. We heard from Kavichandra Maharaj how Srila.
Prabhupada was.
Chanting for the devotees, cooking for them, making himself open to them and giving them, hearing their questions and then giving them Krishna conscious answers.
So one time there was a man.
Who came into the New York temple, was a big Afro American with.
Big.
Jacket, huge body, like some kind of basketball player or something. Six foot six. He came in with a box, walked right into the temple room with his shoes on. Everybody's looking at him like what is this guy? And they're drawing room.
And in the mornings they realized that we have to use our senses for Krishna. And thus although they are using their senses, in fact one time someone asked Bhaktini Lom Chakur and what is actually hasta Devoted Bhaktini Lon Chakur said actually the hasta of the holy means that they're using all their senses. They're eating, they're seeing, they're tasting, they're. They bring all the. Every, all the senses, every mother, bring it to Krishna. There are certain services I can't do. I do not have children.
You can.
So I have some restrictions. Don't have so many restrictions. My jurisdiction is you should do it for Krishna. Then you'll be an advanced as much as sometime there may be some mistake. Don't get disheartened. Then you try again. It's a gradual process. We tried for 100%. We may not think hundred ninety or eighty or seven, but we tried to do the best we do so Krishna depends on Krishna Mercy. This human form of life.
Is actually.
Meant to realize we're born a human being and then every we die in ignorance and still being lost. It's a human being. We have enough capacity, enough potential to realize who is Krishna. We don't do that. Then we wasted our human life side by side. Bishop Ha says that why we are dealing with our material life side by side. We should also know what is the spiritual life, what is scripture. So today there are some devotees who for more than a year or two or more they've been practicing very seriously. They've been experiencing some results. Now they want to take the blessings of the initiated. The Nazis accepted in a disciplined sensation. This makes them a formal member of our spiritual family. But it's also a kind of birth. It's the beginning. So it's not like it's a PhD or anything. Just a basic imprints level that we can know that formal initiating devotee. But they had to also grow and learn more. There's another initiation that is given.
After.
This is the second initiation. Then they will perform this life on their hands. So this way you take first breath. Sam hello. Accepting this devotees as my disciple that we have my spiritual children. That means that whatever they do that also is connected to me. So they do anything wrong then I'm also responsible. So disciples should be very careful to.
Avoid doing.
Of course the other side when they do right things. That's also good for me.
Emotional.
So we have a system. First of all they're chanting and they are thinking they shelter in crown upon after one year of chanting. And they know that they've undertake initiation for any room that's they can.
Be.
As firing for that group. If they're chanting 16 rounds for more than six months they can take shelter from the group.
How many here are sheltered? Why do I shelter.
Any emulator? So our final guru whenever some.
Also.
Offer them obeisances with his voice. And he would say.
How to make.
Your life a success. How to engage in Krishna service. I'm assisted by some of my disciples. I may not be able to always give the personal guidance directly. But I'm indirectly giving to my disciples and assistant in one delbilia and also.
Smallest.
So we use a multi level healthy pool. So those who are being received that they also have to learn more. But they should also help those who are younger responsibility in helping young. This is your last chance to.
You know.
How can we.
Sam.
Ram Sam.
He's going to recombine in order to understand and what it's like to be a devotee. Krishna is always a Lord. So he always sees things from that perspective. So sometimes his devotees were complaining that you don't know what it's like to be your own devotee. What we feel for you, how much we love you, how much we care for you, what it's like to be a devotee. This you don't know. So then Krishna said, okay then I'm going to come as my own devotee. And I'll take the color and the mood of devotion of Ranha Rani. So then how did Krishna come? He is born, right? Okay. Then when he came in Kali Yuga, he came as Lord Chaitanya. Then he was golden in color. You got Lord Chaitanya picture. Here's the Panchatatva. In the middle is Lord Chaitanya. So when Lord Chitzangaya came, he was first. He came as was born in Navadvip dam, Ayapur dam. And so he. Because he was coming as a devotee, he didn't tell anyone who he was. He came in disguise. He just came as if he was a human being. But actually he's Krishna himself as a devotee. What did Krishna do when he was a child in Vrijnava? Stole butter.
Okay.
Anyone else? What else did he do? Okay. Broke butterclass.
Anything else?
Don't you know? You I heard from. Let's hear somebody else.
Yeah. Okay.
So he opened his mouth and Yasura could see that all the universes and everything. What did he do with the cowherd boys? He played with them. He was a real friend. So he had lots of games. But they played hops, leapfrog and all kinds of games. Sometimes they took one another on the shoulders. So Krishna's games when he was a child in Vrindavan, they're very famous. So when Lord Chaitanya he came. Krishna came as a coward boy, right? But Lord Chaitanya came as a Brahmin boy. What do Brahmin boys like to do?
Something else also?
Not really. No butter. They like to study because they want to be very learned. Brahmins are learned people. They should learn all about what? Sastra. They want to learn Sanskrit and Shastra. All the scriptures we very learned. So Loy Chaitanya's games when he grew older were at school learning games. How many of you go to school? So Loy Chaitanya also went to school. He studied language and so many things. Who went to school? Let me see again. Who goes to school?
How many?
Like School. And you know what else Brahmin boys like to do is eat. How many like to eat?
Okay.
So there are a lot of things in common. Gord. Chaitanya. He lived by the Ganges. So he liked to swim. How many of you know swimming? You like swimming? So Lord Chaitanya would go as a child and he'd go swimming. That time he'd play with the other boys.
So.
But he's actually Krishna. But he only knows he's Krishna. We all know he's just a very naughty Brahmin boy. So when he's swimming, sometimes there's Brahminas saying their Gayatri. You know what Gayatri is? It's when they chant on the thread and the thread. And they chant. And when you're in the water, you go up to your waist and you put the thread in. So they have to chant a silent mantra. Gayantri. So while they're chanting, they shouldn't be disturbed. But Lord Chaitanya would come and he would pull their feet out from under them underwater. And they look around, who pulled me? And sometimes he'd come and he spit on him. Then they said, what are you doing? This is very bad. Who are you to do this? And then he said, don't worry. I'm the father of the Ganges. He was being very naughty. Sometimes he'd go out and take the boy, the ladies cloth and mix with the men's clothes and men's with the ladies. So when they came out, they're all getting mixed up and looking, where's my quad? So one day they came. They decided, we're going to complain to his father. This Lord Chaitanya was known as Nimai as a child. That was his dognom, his nickname. So we're going to go and complain. And his son is too naughty. So all the Brahmanas came to see Jagannath Mishra, the father of Ocetanian. They said, you know, your son is very naughty. He is coming and pulling our leg out from under us. When we are saying our prayers. He is coming and spitting water on us. Splashing us. Is putting that cloth here and there. So many naughty things. He's doing that too. Stop him. Then the little girls were coming and they also complained. We are going to worship Shiva.
To.
Get a good husband. And he's coming and saying, give me all the offerings. They said, why should she give you the offering this for Shiva? I said, don't worry, I'm not foreign mother of Shiva. They said, vishnu, Vishnu. How can you say only Vishnu is the source of Shiva. As a child he was joking with him. So then Tangana went to punish his child. He took a stick in his hand.
I'm going to.
Okay, I'm going to discipline him so he doesn't go bad. Then the girls. Actually, everyone likes to talk about Nimai. Just like the Brajavasis. They like to talk about who? Krishna. Actually, they never wanted Nanda Maharaja to punish Krishna. But they couldn't help but enjoy all his pastimes and talk about him. So Nimaya was like that also. Everyone liked to talk about him. So then the girls ran back and said, nimani, you better watch out. Your father is coming and he's going to punish you. Then Nehemiah called all his friends over and he called them. They had a private discussion and then he ran. When Nehemiah's father came, he said, where is Nehemiah? They said. But before he could ask, they. The Moldavite said, where is Nevada? Coming to swim with us? We're waiting here for so long. So what do you mean? Isn't he here? No, he hasn't come yet. We're waiting for him. So they have played some kind of trick on him. And he is wondering. All those elderly people and parents are coming, complaining. He must have been here. They won't lie. They looked around. He didn't see Nehemiah. Then he went back to his house. Nehemiah, he came from school. At least that's what it looked like. He had his school books. He had inka on his fingers. From writing? Yes. No, they used in 10 also. How do you think they wrote without anything? 500 years ago they also had some kind of. In some places, like in Orissa, they used a pin. But in Bengal they used some kind of ink. And they would write down the palm leaf with a feather or something. I don't know exactly.
So.
In this way he came. And even so then, the way Jagannath Mishra wanted to find out whether his son was bathing. Look at his fingers. Because when you bathe, what happens when to the fingers gets all wrinkled, right? So looking to see at the finger, is it wrinkled from swimming? But no, it was all dry and smooth. What's going on here? And he's saying, dad, hard day at school. I was working so hard at school. Studying, studying, studying. I want to go and take a bath. I'm feeling very hard. Can I go to the Ganges?
No.
And he's scratching his head. What's going on? All right, go swim. So like this every day different things are happening with Nimai. Just like it was happening with Krishna when he was in Vrindavan one day when Nimai was just about three years old. Anybody here? Three years old?
Three or four.
Little one.
You're four all right.
And how old are you?
How old are you?
3. So something in between. Like that. This small. He went out and he saw there was a baby dog.
Puppy.
You know what a puppy is? You know this one already. Not everyone. She saw the puppy. And then he took the puppy inside, tied one rope around the neck and he was walking the puppy. And he took it inside the house. Then the mother came out from the kitchen and saw that in the courtyard he's sitting there with the dog. So what are you doing baying a dog in the house? Dogs are not clean. Should take the Brahmin families don't bring dogs in the house. You take the dog out. But mommy, it's my pet. It's my pet puppy. Maybe when you take the puppy outside, not inside.
Then.
Nimai was outside with her puppy inside. He had been hugging the puppy. He'd been petting it, giving it so much affection. She took out. Then all the boys came and said, let's go swimming. So then mother Sachi said, okay, I'll watch the puppy for you. You can go swimming and come back. I won't leave it. So meanwhile the mother of the puppy came. So then mother said.
She.
And Nimai's mother said, this is my chance. Let the puppy go to go with the mother. Then when Nehemiah came back, he's looking, where's my puppy? Where's my puppy? Then he said, oh, maybe your friends let him go. Maybe he went back with the mother. So she picked him up and said, don't worry. We'll get you another one later. But the little children, they can't remember so long. Later the Papi, because he was touched by Nimai, he got the blessing of Krishnaparti. Whoever chants the word Sri Krishnachenya, they get devotion. So what to speak of someone who has been hugged by Chaitanya Mahbubhu touched by Lord Chaitanya. Even as a child, whoever touched him would also get Krishna Bhakti. So this puppy developed pure Bhakti, pure devotion. And the baby, off in the other part of the town where I was living with the mother started to chant. So the puppy is jumping and chanting. And all the people that never saw a puppy chant Hare Krishna. Have you ever seen. What do they say normally? Honey, Bull, Honey bull. Honey bull. Can you all say honey bull.
Honeyboy.
Say like a dog. So like this he said. And the people are gathering around watching. Sometimes he is rolling in the ground, sometimes he's jumping up. He's jumping and jumping. And finally the dog falls over.
And he died.
But then all the people looked. They saw that from the sky there was a very bright light. And there was a divine kind of sound. They saw a brilliant light coming from the sky, coming down. And there was a spiritual airplane with Vishnu Dutas, messengers of Lord Vishnu. And it was so brilliant. It was like millions of suns. It was like a chariot with many, many little temple dome Santa. And then the atma, the soul from that dog came out and take a human form, a spiritual human form. And entered into that spiritual airplane and was taken back to the spiritual world. In the spiritual world there's no birth, no old age, no disease, no sickness, no belly aches, no tummy aches, nothing. No problems like Kunta. There is no death. So we want that everyone should also go back to the spiritual world. So we hope all of you will chant Hare Krishna and chant the name of Chaitanya. Mahaprabhu, Chaitanya, Prabhu, Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna Hare. Because if you chant the name you also get in touch with Lord Caitanya. And by his touch you'll go be qualified to go back at the end of your life to Krishna.
Sam.
Okay, you got a Mahaprastad here for the children. When we all are very, very small. And the first time you want to eat some drink, you need blessings of the Lord and you need blessings of Br. So we just going to have. We need all your blessings also. Just wait for a few minutes.
We got.
See everything. We want to start with Krishna when you start the studies. Then we have a thing called Vidya Rumba hate Kodi where the child, the guru takes the child's hand and writes the name of Krishna. And when the little babies teeth start to come out in the sixth or seventh month, then they have to start to eat grains. Before that they're just taking soft things. Okay? Oh, this means O Achuta, master of food, bestow food which gives strength, which is free of disease, should lead the performer of sacrifice give strength to everyone.
That Sam.
This means that human form of life is very special, hard to obtain. So make that this child can achieve eternity in this human form of life.
It.
