20020916 || Śrīmad Bhāgavatam Class || Śrī Māyāpur, India #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

A recorded Śrīmad Bhāgavatam class by Jaya Pataka Swami discussing social ethics, dharma, and practical spirituality. The speaker critiques modern failures of duty and honesty (corporate fraud, negligent workmanship, environmental pollution, gambling, intoxication, illicit sex) and emphasizes the need for courageous protectors and selfless service (Kshatriya and Brahmana ideals). He presents devotional service (bhakti/kṛṣṇa consciousness) as the practical, scientific remedy for sense-control and social upliftment.
Somebody's a king or a general but then he wants to be like oh I don't want to fight with the bad boys. He should love everyone. I'm sorry that they're attacking your house. You want the police to come and protect you when you're being robbed by dynamites, then you should be praising. They're facing this problem now even in Nepal where people were known to be very have a lot of heavy countries. But the Mahabhar militants who are in a higher revolution against the government, they're very fanatical. So they're like willing to do suicide missions. It's very heavy where the police take out their wife and their capacity and really don't want to take too much risk. So they're getting defeated many battles by the Maoists because they're more daring and just. What's the word? Dedicated to their mission. So I was talking to one general and he said well if our army would actually take it off. I said well previously the charges they die in the battlefield and go to heaven. So they were the one they watched on their level best. Well if you had army and police like that, you wouldn't have any trouble. Revolutionaries are willing to die any battle and not that they think they go to heaven, but they're just ignorant, just obsessed with their ideas. We need to have shakyas like that who are willing to protect others even at the expense of their own lives. Chhatiya means to pretend like Nori. We're facing this problem. Big multinational companies mainly in America been exposed as. What's the word? Unscrupulous designers. Charts of this 420 English class. They've been still not the exact word I'm looking for but fraudulent. Maybe something more like that. They've been fraudulent, done fraudulent accounts to get a better position for the company to increase the value of their stock. They did accounting that money that they spent on expenses. They showed that it was spent for investment. If you actually spent that scar, if you put in your books that you built the building with, then you're showing that you have some assets for it somehow they did some arranging of their house so that immediate expense was shown over a 10 year period of time. So it actually boosted the value of their company by billions of dollars which didn't exist dollars or bond. When they figured out that their company was not having that much money as their and they at that time the person who did it already sold his stock and went out. Then it was discovered. So then now they found several. So many every day a new Company comes up with this. The government said every company better company or right now whether their accounts are honest or not. Because nobody has any more pain than the big companies. So Baishans are supposed to be responsible. They're supposed to do honest business and given charity. Hearing that Baishas were dishonest and they're affecting the whole world economy. The national company for sure. America's superpower. The world in heaven. Go down the line. Go down to the workers also doing honest labor, not cheating. When we got a car for Prabhupada we have three cars. I don't know where the car is now. We usually have one here. I hope they're beginning. When we got those cars there was a Prabhupada disciple called Janapada and he took all the cars and re welded went underneath the cars and we welded. So he found that there's 27 places for welding something like that. I may be wrong but I remember six of my wife William told me he said the only welded 11 or 12 places. More than half the places was the weld here and here and here and here. The weld here and here and skip two in the middle just to get the work done making. That's why the cars fall apart. Only half the welds in them. So he re welded everyone, put the new bolts, took the whole car apart, put it back together almost like rebuilt that distance but correct way. That means the workers didn't do their job just get the cash, get the work done. So all these things are going on today in Kali Yuga. None of the people doing the work of any of these varanas very few of them are really doing the work right. Of course some people are. I don't want to say everybody but there are people who don't. And that's what's creating problems in the world. They find some military guy who is spying for the other side. So many different Black Buddha the people that expect certain things of certain responsible persons according to the nature of their work. A worker should do his work honestly. Should well have only half the point businessman should be honest in his business and not achievement. So because of this today we're facing big problems with the ecology. The environment is suffering because of very short vision. I remember I was doing a morning walk in Chicago and alongside Lake Michigan and then there was some sound of water going into the lake at five in the morning. What's that as well? This is the American chemicals of the lake. It's the palus, the environment. They get a fight but the inspectors don't wake up before 9 o'. Clock. So they do it early in the morning before the inspectors wake up. This is America. I mean, so it's like they would get away with that Australia problem. They care about their environment. We're facing a worldwide problem. So what Prabhupada wanted was people who would be honest, who would be working for. I told the children yesterday at the youth program we had at the Krishna Nagar. The Prabhupada wanted us to be working for the welfare of others. Purohitu. He wanted to create Ramana in the sense of Ramana as a work for the welfare of others. Shantiya would also he would enjoy, right? He was a king, but he was supposed to protect others and take risk and manage things according to principles of Dharma and the guidance of the Brahmanas. The Brahmanas, they lived very simply. There were people who were really working for the welfare of others. This king Kanba brother, the Brahman Kanba is mentioned here. He picked up the daughter of Sakuntala, no, the daughter of Renaka who was Sakuntala and brought her up with his ashram, her pants that it comes next her whatever history. This is natural for the Brahmanas to just be very caring and trying to help others. That's what Srila Prabhupada wanted. It's a class of personalization. One out of every six in the Gurukul should be chakriya. Some people to defend the others. But then mostly everybody was hoping they'd be Brahmanas and preach and the Pujas and samsvaras may working for the spiritual upliftment. I was assigned. So we follow this principle in Krishna consciousness that somebody by doing Ka consciousness is so powerful they can change their karma and they can become qualified as Brahmanas. But then we have to work for the welfare of others. That's the significance. Being a Brahmana doesn't just mean that you have a thread of a Brahmana deeply. It means that we're supposed to work selflessly for the upliftment of others. That's why the Brahmanas are respected or given charity. Because whatever they got, they wouldn't marty any surplus they had. They would also distribute it. They were like part of the welfare state. The whole state was welfare oriented. Every grihaste would feed the hungry. Now you got the governmental overhead. It's amendments, right? In a place like say Scandinavia. Sweden, where you have some social facilities given by the government or even maybe in some place like Australia New Zealand. The problem with that is he had huge overhead to maintain the state sponsored socialism. So people have to pay lots of taxes. Our BDP may have to move from Sweden because being in Sweden the taxes are so high that they can't afford to publish the books there unless they can figure a way out or move to a less higher tax place like England. But the day they type it was totally socialistic in the sense of caring for people that no person would go hungry because you won't even eat if there was a hungry person. But every family was feeding hungry people. So you didn't go on the dole by the government. But if you were hungry and you didn't have a job or something, you would be fed by other grihasis till such time as you could get yourself together. So the society itself would be taken care of its own rather than put it under government. And you have to hire all kinds of government staff who barely have to do their job. Then you have people cheating easy money. Not really. They could really find a job, but they'd rather just get the money. So then you got to eat at somebody else's house. How long? Anyway, at work the day late night rabbi told a story about there was a grihasta went out and asked if anybody hungry. And there was a fisherman there with his basket. And he said, have you eaten? He said no, I haven't eaten yet today. Did you come and eat my house? But you did the basket outside. So he had us in his basket stuck there as well. I mean, going sometimes a little bit late in the day. You get the train from Calcutta and all the fishermen are coming back. What a statement. Horrible fish is so bad smelly. The guy is on. Anyway, so they put the basket outside. He came in in the backyard of his house. He put down a little courtyard. They put down a seat and a lieutenant. Then he took his facade and he starts only getting late. But actually where do you live? I can tell where you live, right? Far off hills. Just sleep here and at the morning go because the night and night is safe. Never reached night. So the guy gave him a grassland nice summer day sleep outside. He was sleeping in the courtyard. And then the night Vihasta got up and he saw the person was rolling back and forth. So what's wrong? He said. He said I can't sleep. Why not? Well, I always have my basket by my side outside. So without smelling my basket, I'm not able to sleep. So then Prabhupada said the hospital said, okay, pick your basket then he could sleep. Nice fishy smell. Prabhupada started laughing and this was actually one time Prabhupada told Shamma Suttara that when he said what happens if the Russians send over the nuclear missiles and there's a third world war and the missiles are coming, what shall we do? The Prabhupada said well, we can all go to Mayapur and we can stay in Mayapur and Chandra Krishna, that is the Prabhupada. If I don't think I can do that, I mean I'm used to the city. I mean I'm used to hearing the sirens of the ambulances from the police and you know, the sound of the refrigerator. I mean how can I live in my airport? So those days we release the grasshopping everything. Maybe now, maybe light it now. So then Prabhupada told this story after he was laughing he said, you light is discerning. You cannot sleep unless you're smelling a machine. You have to smell some machine. Then too Westerners have become too much urbanized. I don't know, that may not be the word in use but something to that effect. So now we are brought up in this culture that it's very hard for us with a simple living and high thinking. That's where our lives are. We're used to such a complicated life. Rahman also had said that if we reach ka consciousness in the Soviet Union that the communist system must be changed. So staying here now we're not worrying about the Russians sending bombs over now we have the Russians here in Mayanport too. But now we're worried about the Iraqis and the Pakistanis. The problem would tell us when to do there. So this is the thing we get conditioned the Prabhupada today, whatever our conditioning to get your applied. Some of the Indian conditions are taking intoxication or eating meat or gambling. We're just at resort in Malaysia. Further, further up, one hour further on this same road as the big only casino of Malaysia. You know, I didn't go there. Some daughters went just to check out what was going. I didn't go there. We were in the ecological part. He said some people, even housewives, they're just like addicted to gambling. Especially the Chinese people like to gamble. So the big problem, they go and they want to spend all their hard earned money gambling. In Florida they have certain gambling. And there was a sign on the highway gamblers Anonymous. If you have an impulsive gambling problem and you spend all your money gambling, call this number for gambler Anonymous meetings and counseling. And it was surprising there were Alcoholics Anonymous that people give up. They can't stop drinking or taking drugs. Leaving there is impulsive gambling, can't stop gambling. So these things that colleague has been given are really destructive. Gambling is destructive, intoxication is destructive. And me eating is also in many ways very destructive. Environmentally, karmically our nature become very aggressive, very hateful. Now this is sex that's also very destructive and unclean. It's spreading so many diseases. People in nature their families has the B leading cancer is visible so many much higher percentage cancer of the cologne soil in Canada for smoking. Now I was waiting in the queue for immigration to America and there was they have immigration in Canada. They had a duty free shop with packs of cigarettes and they made a lot of cans and now the cigarette pads. They don't just say harmful for the health. They say this harmful for lung causes lung cancer. Then one half of the cigarette pack is a picture of an infected lung. And they show the picture of the cancerous black lungs destroyed by smoking. Then they say they know if it harms the fetus, the embryo in the mother and they'll show like a picture of a deformed from smoking. It's really grotesque, graphic. But you know, I don't know now when you buy a pack of cigarettes, you get a beautiful picture postcard size of what this can do to you. I hope it works. Still there are people smoking in Canada. There are some people very determined. Maybe it will turn some people away looking at these horrible images. The modern scientists know these things are bad. Social scientists know gambling is bad. They know intoxication is bad. You know, even meat eating is bad. There's enough evidence illicit sex is. There are some places in Africa there's a sign that says Stop heeds be celibate. But the people, they can't do it. The only way you can control your senses if you have to have something in exchange, so what to do it in exchange for sense gratification is devotional service. We do devotional service and we're above the three modes of nature. We try to train the devotees so that they can fully absorb themselves in devotional service. They get control from falling into these four simple activities by changing hare ka devotional service. That's very scientific. And by doing that then they can be also twice born. They can work for the welfare of society and try to educate others to take up this higher service. Yes, Another way to think of it for a second. Anyone else, what is the proper agency it's more left up to the individual with the guru maybe with the devotees trying to figure out where do I even invest what's my ideal service rather than trying to institutionalize it and have somebody kind of judge this nature or that nature. Because these things take time really to understand. And people if they get in the wrong spot, that would be another. You know, my temple president told me I was a Vaishya but I was really a Kshatriya. So now I'm going to kill him because he ruined my life. I think his sight is the system how to actually do it. The concept I think everybody agrees with but also the fact that today in our society there's a lot of we're already trying to get out of this that's kind of being branded as a particular cast. So trying to designate somebody in the cast would probably be very anti productive for reaching. There's a feeling that people would misuse that and say that we are trying to propagate some kind of a caste system. These are the kind of concerns which are making us, you know. But the principal does not take the stock individuals Gurukul, teachers, counseling. I mean when I went to college, before I went to college they gave you what they call it recently a copy of. What do you call that? It's an examination it takes to find out your sensitiveness. It's like a career counseling. But that's probably what happens after you do this test. But this shows your nature. Like you take this and then you go to your counselor and then you discuss what. Well, you have a nature that like one of the things when I took my test it gives you different careers that you would fit in. One of the careers was to be an airline pilot or an aviation pilot. But I never took out the aviation pilot. My good pilot. I don't know what that means. I don't know how the other. But the one that Manu has, he said that it's helpful for the youth and so that in their own perverted way they try to place people according to their nature in a particular career. So that is there in all societies. Just how you do it, how you do it in this kind how to. That's where we get bogged down. They don't really know how to so that we don't do it wrong. So it's kind of lives down to the individual to understand the principle that we're all one caste. That's fish the devotees now by now engagement you fit in best. What's your career? Is it a Pujari Is it a manager? Is it a traveling preacher? Is it a book distributor? Is it, you know, just to work outside and maintain your family? People kind of let the same kind via Rama in the real sense, Vivai Shaw means to also preach. So what we're doing with our congregation and our ministry is we're getting them to do preaching even though they may be working nine to five, from five, six to nine. And the mice, they're preaching. So that way is Tayva Paradashra. This is Chapagalonga's Dharana. Yesterday you kind of pass it on, Put it on your head. I've been having the mercy all morning. Pass it around. Ought to always remember Krishna. Never forget. Never forget. The doors. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel. We publish new videos every day.
