2003 || 6th Hare Kṛṣṇa Convention || Malaysia #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

Recorded seminar from an ISKCON convention (Malaysia) covering: the theological claim that sincere chanting of the Holy Name purifies practitioners and can substitute for traditional caste-based initiation (examples and historical precedent cited, e.g., Bhakti Siddhantha Thakur giving threads to chanters); cross-cultural and local examples of temple access and priesthood in Nepal, Bangladesh, India and Malaysia; an interactive youth workshop listing obstacles (time management, parental pressure, entertainment, stress, doubt, laziness, ritualism) and inspirations (kirtan, festivals, guru/vaishnava association, deity worship, counseling); and practical institutional discussion about congregational development, pastoral training, and inter-ministry collaboration to strengthen preaching and community services.
Perform various sacrifices until he is properly purified and has attained his sacred thread. However, according to this verse, it is understood that even a law born person can immediately perform sacrifices. He sincerely chants and hears the holy.
Name of the Lord.
Sometimes English people ask how Europeans and Americans and this Ka consciousness movement can become Ramanas and perform sacrifices. They do not know that the Europeans and Americans have already been purified by chanting the Holy name of the Lord. This is the proof one may be born in a family of dog ears that he can perform sacrifices simply by chanting the Maha Mantra. Those who find fault in the Western Vaishnavas should consider this statement from Srimad Bhagavatam in the commentary of this verse by Silajiva Goswami in this regard. Silajiva Goswami has stated that to become a Brahmana one has to wait for purification and undergo the sacred thread ceremony. But a chandelier of the Holy Name does not have to wait for the second thread. We do not allow devotees to perform sacrifices until they are properly initiated in the sacred thread ceremony. Yet according to this verse, an offenseless chanter of the Holy Name is already fit to perform a fire ceremony even though he is not doubtfully initiated in the sacred thread ceremony. This is the verdict given by the Lord Kapiladev in his instructions to his mother, the Vahuti. It was Lord Kapila there who instructed the Vahuti in pure Shankya philosophy.
Focusing.
On.
The Western demoes. Because at that time it was the consideration in India. In fact, like in Nepal, the king and queen wanted to recognize the iskcon but some of the caste Brahminas in Nepal there was a mana absolute monarchy. They didn't permit it. And the king said, what can I do? I have to follow the Brahminists. I guess they were afraid that people from other countries would do fire Yages and Nepal and this would somehow decrease their monopoly. Later, when it became a democracy and a constitutional monarchy, then they usually got recognized. I was wondering, how is it in India, you know, that all these royal families were completely taken out about 50 years ago. Wouldn't have been better. We see that actually probably would have been a big problem for pitching because all the Brahmanas were trying to influence the kings in India not to recognize the different Hare Ka devotees. Bhakti Siddhan, the Sahaja Thakur. He faced a problem initiating people who were not born in a Brahmin family. He gave them upon Aynam. Taking the basis of this verse, that is somebody sincerely chanting Hare Ka, then they're qualified to perform Yajnas. If they're qualified to perform Yajnas, then they can get the Yajna Pavitra, which is the name for the poita or for the Brahmin thread, Yajna Pavitra. So he started to give people who were not born in Brahmin families but who were chanting Hare Krishna Maha Mantra and following all the principles very strictly, he started to give them the Brahmin thread and the Upanayan of Samskara so that from the social point of view, they'll also be recognized this year. When we were in Orissa, we went to a city called Jodhpur, which is a very ancient Puranic city which is mentioned. Many different pastimes of the Lord happen there. Dasa Swami Naganta. There's Varaha temples and there's one temple to Virodja because there the Vaitarani river is flowing. So this Viroja temple. So there's a supposed to. There's a well which is saying is the navel of the earth. Somehow it's connected to the causal ocean. So no matter how much rice or things you put in that well, even if you put tons in town, it always stays the same level. It just goes into the causal ocean. That's for sure. So the devotees wanted to see. But that temple, they followed this other temples, they could have Darshan in Tajpur, but that particular example, they didn't allow the Western devotees to take Darshan of that well. Then when old Brahmana, he came and he was watching the young Brahmanas stopping the devotees. Then he started chastising them. You people, you're not vegetarian. You break the rules of intoxication, you gamble in your spare time, you're doing all the sinful things. And these people are following all these rules and chanting Hare Krishna, Sri Krishna, you don't want to let them come in the temple. They are more qualified than you are. And he was blasting them so much as a fellow. Quite interesting, actually. We have the phenomena where in Bangladesh most of the upper class Hindus have left the country. And who's left were the poor people, the carpenters and the workers. And there's about 20 million of them there. There's probably more Hindus in Bangladesh than anywhere else outside of India. But very few Brahmanas and Kshatriyas and maybe a few Vaishas are still there. But mainly Sudras or less than sudras if you go by the caste system. So you have a situation where they ask a carpenter to perform a wedding because he's the highest caste in the area. But now they're asking the devotees, whoever is chanting Hare Krishna, they ask them to perform all the samskaras. Of course, many devotees they're getting are twice initiated. We officially give them a yangya provincial performing here. You have a different situation in Malaysia where most of the people, I mean, there's a few North Indians and a few people that know what their former caste was. But most of them don't have a clue what their caste is or what their gotra is or anything. They've been here for so many generations. And whenever their parents came, they didn't pass it down. In case you meet someone that says they remember, they know what their family tradition is, that's maybe less than 10%. So they have this situation here. But people believe in their Hindu dharma. They believe in Vedic culture and they worship different deities, ancient, the Vedas. So here there's also this. They're importing the Brahmanas to be priests from India. Some of my disciples have taken up as an occupation of being a Brahmana, being a priest in that temple. Some of them don't even have that second initiation. But here it doesn't matter. They let them be a priest and do it. And they're chanting. They're probably more fixed in the regular principles than most of the other priests. So I just tell them, don't do the. Avoid the Bali. Some of the temples here, they do Bali like this Munyangran, as a. Don't do that. So there just. It's a good field for devotees. I was surprised to miss out on the topic, but all the pranam you put in the plate, they get. So actually adds up to. They can maintain themselves quite okay. They don't get much from the temple, but they get a lot from the devotees. So here also we face a situation where, like in Bengal, many of our devotees, like one time in another place in northern Orissa, the Namhatra devotees were expanding like anything. And then the K. Brahmanas, they started to oppose. And they say if you go to the Namhat program, you won't perform any ceremony. There's no marriage, no death, no samskara. So it's like then some people were fighting, but that hardcore, you know, devotees, they kept going on. And then there was Baritza, a landlord. And his whole life he was mixing with the British. And the British, he was an old man now. And he had this big palace that left. But all the government took away all the property from the landlord. So all he had was this big house and a blue piece of ash. He is known as the number one materialist, drunkard and very Westernized person. So but somehow he got attracted to these devotees. He used to occasionally visit the Mount Hatha. And then when he was on his deathbed, he asked the devotees to come and be there. So they all came there and started chanting Hare Krishna with him. And he started chanting Hare Ka. When he left his body, he was chanting Hare Krishna. Everybody knows, at least in that part of the world, everybody knows that if you chant the name of Narayana Krishna Vishnu, when you leave your body, you go back to Krishna. So they said, well, here this person led a sinful life his whole life. But because of the association of the devotees, surely he went back to Godhead. The Brahmanas, only after we die, they'll do a samskara. That time it's already over. The Lord is saving us before we die. So then they start coming back to the Naam hat. Then the Brahmanas, okay, we're losing. Then they also, the Brahmanas join the Naamhatta. So this verse is not it, or maybe some. It's not very theoretical. It's very quite practical. Bhakti Subhasaretakur for giving this kind of initiation to the non Ramana who are Vaishnavas? You see, someone who's a Vaishnava, they should like to serve Ka. Some political movement in South India tried to make some va that non Brahmanas would just be in the temple and doing the priestly work. But because they were never trained to be Vaishnava, they just do it like some political thing. Anti Brahmana movement. Then people said, why people sitting there all day in the hot temple and we don't like this work. We rather work out in the fields, do some factory work. This is tough. Sitting there waving candles, lamps before the deity, giving out china meat. I mean, wow. It's not so easy. Very boring. Because they don't have emotion. So it didn't work. If somebody has devotion, they don't mind serving the Lord. Of course, some people have different natures. So we're not anti Brahmana. We encourage the Brahmanas who are Brahmanas. They should also act like Brahmanas and they should also become Brahmana Vaishnavas. We're not empty anybody, but somebody. The whole point of this is somebody who is chanting Hare Ka, the who is Krishna consciousness. They should also be recognized that by the power of the holy name they get purified. One time there was some big mayapali and he was opposing with argument one devotee. He's saying that you people, you can't go into the temples, you can't do this and that because in your childhood you ate beef. They eat. So then the body was preaching. He said, okay, I want to know from you which is more powerful? The power of giving mead or beef to contaminate someone or the power of the supreme personality of Gandhi Narayana and Ka holy name to purify someone. What is the supreme personality, the beef or the supreme Lord? Really Clear, sir. All right. So this time something very difficult to understand. That Ka he's so powerful that if we go in the presence of Krishna, even we have so many previous bad karmas, we are pure. Of course, that doesn't mean we should again do bad karmas. We should again do sinful things. We should avoid it. Nothing like what said in a shastra, don't do elephant death Bhatti. Stone elephants. They go on the water and they bathe themselves. When they come out, they take with their trunk, they take some dust and they throw it all over their back. Don't get purified and go out and do some sinful things and put dirt over yourself. Get purified and stay purified. That's the secret. The Lord Chaitanya also, he taught us how by chanting and practicing Ka consciousness, one can give this Paramananda the supreme transcendental happiness which everybody is thanking for Srila Bhakti Siddhana Saratakur. When he was doing this preaching and he was initiating so many people like this, he took his parikrama party to Navadri and they cast. Ramana were so angry with him from the rooftop, they started to throw stones and bricks at him, trying to kill him. So that time went behind. He pulled him into a doorway and switched clothes with him. He put on saffron clothes and gave his white clothes to Marquis Sivanta and Sarasoti Thakur. So they kind of took off to the Bhakti Sudananda Thakur then noticed him. And then they asked and always dressed as sannyasi. He like went right in the street, you know, started running in the other direction to attract their attention as a decoy. So such a heavy thing. Some tiny. Now things are quite more mellow in India. I don't think they're not so heavy about as it were. Although when it comes to narratives, you'd be surprised. But generally the things are null. But there was like a lot of tests, a lot of challenges, a lot of different obstacles to put up. That's why Prabhupada is mentioning this, that especially for this Kali Yuga, where the holy name is the only way. The only way, the only way. This is. This is the way everyone needs to get purified. But in Chaitanya Chera, Chaitanya Bhagavad Chet, there's a famous verse. It says, muci hai suchi hai jalli Krishna bhaje. If even a dog eater or someone who's working with skins and things that these guys should chain Hare Krishna lead a life as a Vaishnava, he becomes as Suchi and becomes Brahmana. But a Brahmana, if he gives up worshipping Vishnu, then he becomes lower than a Sunda, becomes like a Kroger. One time Prabhupada was also saying, some of us saying, okay, what caste are you? What color are you? What gymnasium? And all these different things. So then probably actually these people are cobblers. Because cobbler means expert at working with skin. So they're expert on skin. What kind of skin you have, rather than seeing what is that person doing, what is their spiritual attainment or their, you know, their level of purity, they're just seeing as skin. Let's take a cobbler, okay, this leather is toothache tooth. You know how to make nice shoes. So they're skin experts. We have to see the average skin. I remember one time Prabhupada also told the Western devotee, don't think that just because you're born in some relation you became devotees. That those who are born as the Brahmanas and they are devotees, so they can't be devotees too. That's so everybody can be a devotee. And for them it's supposed to be easier to be a devotee. They have that culture. Sometimes. Maybe the Westerners thought, okay, you know, hearing all these kind of verses, and they thought, okay, we're the only devotees. It's not like that. At least anybody who's born in the later culture, they have the biggest advantage to take it up. It's quite hard to teach people who are born in another culture. In fact, even if people are worshipping Shiva and Kali and different devas.
The.
Prabhupada said, that's much better than if they are non Hindu. At least they respect the Vedas. So from the Vedas, you can directly preach to them. When you're teaching, say to a non Hindu, you have to use all kinds of reason and logic. It's not. You can't just Say Bharatiwad vivida status. I don't believe in the Bible. What does this bible mean? Well, you can preach like that to the followers of the so it's an advantage. That's why we need the bodies to become experts in the shastra as well as expert in Manchin can reason how to present it for different audiences. You can present to a faithful Hindu one way you can present to a Buddhist another way you can present to an atheist as tough to present to an atheist and you have to be very logical and convince them how atheism is illogical doesn't make any sense. So according to where the person is at one needs to peach to them according to time, place and circumstances. Once they start chanting Hare Ka once they chant the names of Vishnu then the power of the holy name they get purified and they can do any kind of devotional services according to this verse even they can perform yajna if need be mentioned. In our society we give a formally people Chandra Krishna we give them the upanayama. But technically, according to Jiva Goswami of his birth, someone who was chanting regularly even without all those formal samskaras they could also do it. So very interesting things. Now of course today we're really tight because at 9:40 that eclipse starts you're supposed to not eat or drink and believe it or not, you're not supposed to pass anything in the bathroom also. But that may be sometimes impossible to stop. But technically anything shouldn't go in and out of your body except for air, not even water. So I want to give you enough time to finish your breakfast. And I told them because they can cook also before the eclipse is over. So it's over at 2:30. That's why the facade's not until 4. They got to get an hour and a half. They have a marathon cooking. I said at 3 o' clock you can go out and have a little refreshment, you know, some drink or something. Something lemonade or something. So go tapasi today. So technically like in time of Lord Shaitanya everybody would go and stay in the water the whole time. We could all go in the ocean and have our seminars there. But what we're trying to do is that during that period we're trying to have a complete period of hearing and chanting and being immersed in the ocean of transcendental vibrations and using the time. I don't think the organizers realized it was an eclipse when they place this day a few years ago, whatever, many months ago last year. So there's nobody if you don't have anything to do, you can sit somewhere in Shan Hare Krishna or you can go in the ocean up to your neck, up to your waist. Chand Hare Ka. But otherwise you'll be in one of the seminars and here in Chand. And that should protect you. This by now a youth seminar.
It's convention in Malaysia because for me it is important.
We actually have here Khaki Sidanda Maharaj. He's working a lot with the youth and he has this youthful spirit. So first what I wanted. I wanted to actually start off with some kind of an icebreaker because we're already 20 minutes late. First day is always like that. Then I think instead we'll do is if I want to break everybody into first of all into smaller groups. So we got a few more ladies but say about 15 people in a group. And they're going to give you exactly right after. Right after a little rinse. And then right after that then we'll have fellow general Max give a talk. A short talk on his realization football. After hearing all that believe that works. What I want to do is.
Give.
You each 10 minutes. Five minutes for selecting about five obstacles you face in your ka consciousness as I do. You're elderly.
Three men.
You have to act like a youth today. You can represent what you see youth facing. And 5. What are the most inspiring things? What are the things that you see most inspiring for you to keep you pushing? Wow. We got people see everything's coming close it. We make some groups here. There's one group here all the time. The humble ones here in the circ it while they study parents. Sometimes can be an objection from the parents. Go back to your seats. And the coordinators of the program. We're going to go around the room. I need someone who has handwriting.
Don't speculate.
Don't be my body. We're going to go down. This is. We're going to see who has got the most original ideas. We're going to quickly go around the room and get your ideas and put you on the board. Those are cheapest to chat or later you get one. You can't give the same idea. Go around two times. Listen. Negative obstacle.
One of the how to overcome Maya. How to overcome Maya.
Okay, that's. That's so general. Okay. How to overcome Maya. Parenthesis last. Anger, greed. Okay, who's the coordinator? Thank you. You don't have to write the name of the person. You just put the things. Don't change the color line.
School assignments like punishments and all that.
Finishing school assignments. Where's the. You got your chair. Go, go.
Time management because there are school problems. So they are doing it time to parenting skill. Because the parents didn't follow the regulations. So the children also didn't follow what parents? The rules.
So that. That's a bad influence of non Krishna conscious parents. Who put that. Get a write close enough so you can fit Sri Lanka.
I think our biggest obstacle is being able to balance our material life, professional life with our spiritual life.
Balancing material and spiritual duties. Gorbachta rinder groove entertainment attraction of entertainment, TV, movies, etc. Etc. Okay, back now to the Shikrisha Cheikha ni group.
Not enough time to chant the rounds.
Is that the same as balancing the police except early he said that separate one. The first one who cannot come up with an original idea is out. This is heavy competition.
Lack of knowledge and systematic training.
You gotta place that apron you roll on. Put it up on a wall there so that you can see what's there. Allen cleaning. And here we're gonna fire up. Avoid the.
Parents Expeditions to get high grades. Well, we had to study harder to fulfill our parents.

I think the unanimous institution of school is balancing between family members, relatives and those who are non devotees and still being able to keep our principles.
Of.
Me I'm happy words or less. That's family. Family. And we already had friends before. Gotta stick it on the wall. Balancing material influence of materialistic material, family and friends. We just said parents before. Okay, here we gora back to Rinda.
Doubt.
Doubt in Christian.
Doubts in Casey. Okay, now for the third round. It's getting heavy now. This is now going over time. Instant death.
Criticizing the voice.
Laziness.
Lazy laziness for you. Okay. Hey, there's a temple spy here again. Gadar group. I said minimum five. While they were here, you could have had. You know what? You could have brainstormed. Even while the things are going on, even while they're riding here as a group, you can. Okay, so Gadar group dropped out. That means came forward. And now we still hear. We still hear from the Shivas and Gorbach Tiruna group. Then you have in the meantime the coordinators. I gave you two pieces of paper. So for the paper that has the negative things circle what hasn't been put up. And whoever has the most ideas that haven't been put up will Be the winner.
It's try not to be a ritualist to practice Krishna consciousness like as though it's an everyday thing. But trying to follow Prabhupada's instructions. The sincere heart.
Trying the base one aliens and not ritualistic or mechanical.
No self discipline. We don't want to follow Hare Krishna. Like don't make ourselves follow Hare Krishna.
Plan your self discipline. You know, going to go to the positive side. In the meantime we're going to have an inner judge here. We got the two maharajas. It'll be the final judge to see who went on the negative side. You circle all the things that haven't been put up yet. And whoever has the most that hasn't been put up will be declared the winner. We have to give you some special awards. We have some cheesecake or something. Okay, now we're going to switch. We're going to start with the Sri the Gorbach Rinda group. Just to give a. Not give all the advantages to the men's side. Give a positive things.
Sing other devotees practice Krishna consciousness will be awakening example.
Seeing red turn in color. Change color. Sing good examples of Krishna conscious devotees practicing positive. Festivals. Big festivals. Festivals.

Inspiration from the deity's smiling face.
Deedee's smiling faces.
Jesus.
Around holy places and Malaysia. Okay. Special biblical reference.
Judge not and you shall not be judged.
No, you're all going to be judged. Okay, I need A help here. Someone hand out paper. One to each person. Yeah. The next thing is you fold your paper in two halves. We're going to each devote. You can use your own pen. If anybody likes to use colored pencils, I give one set of each set. So these two groups should divide them up. Whoever reads colored pencils, you're going to now draw. You got all these different ideas. I want you to draw more like your own experience. Something in a good picture form. When you are the most ecstatic in Krishna consciousness. When you felt the most cared for as a devotee. And the other side, when you felt the least cared for in your life. Draw, draw, draw.
Yeah.
Everyone will draw. That's a natural art contest. You can just draw anywhere you want. Yeah. You got another six minutes. It's not very giving all the ladies a paper. First you got women. Otherwise the picture. The judges are desolate. Anyone else need more paper or pens? You came to a workshop without a pen.
That association of devotees is the most important thing. And that means Lord Chaitanya said Vaishnava seva nam na sankirtam by these two things you give quickly. The Lord is Sanctu Krishna. The Sara Sangha means service. So that's what we need is service to the Vaishnavanasana and pure time. Lots of pure time and many, many things. You see what people are saying here. And it's not many of our devotee kids in America that grew up in a very isolated environment then they think that we have all these problems that nobody else has. Nobody can understand us. They just. That's how you always tell. Then they got out into the world. They went to high school or college. They found out everybody had the same. Every kid growing up as all the same problems. It's just part of life. And then they start to realize that they had at least something worthwhile. When a karmic hit can't handle stress, you know what? What has he got? All they can do is get drunk or something. But we need devotee association. We need adults to be very attentive. I was just in Bangalore and even people 60 years old, they were saying when they were young and they would ask their parents, why don't we eat me? Why don't Brahmins do this? They say just shut up. Don't ask so many questions. And so they find. And this is for Even if you're a 15 year old, you have to deal with the 5 year old and the 10 year old or the 12 year old in a very caring and loving way because the devotees are what I see, they're generally much high intelligence and clear headed and they're very, very aware of everything that's going on around them. So somebody has to help. Everybody has to be helping everybody. If you go to Vrindavan in the village you'll see that every little girl has a smaller one on her, you know from their five year old girl's got the two year old and everybody's got somebody. So the girls especially they grow up like quite peaceful. When they're young there's always somebody taking care of them and the older one's always inside. Modern so called nature families is a big problem because you just now they're just saying have one child and then you're trapped in the house with your parents. And the parents are also, they don't have any greater family.
So.
Getting together with devotees that requires effort. We can't just say well there's no program, somebody has to make one to. Somebody has to help. Youth can do it. Any youth can, you know, say call up everybody, say we're going to have a picnic or let's go, nobody's going to stop you. Or if you want to do a drama, you know, we have to be engaged and interacting. And also one thing, our movement is a preaching movement. And when we actually preach to non devotees then we become convinced either you preach to them or they preach to you. As we all learn that on both distribution it is never a neutral situation. If you're not, you may not be saying anything. Preaching doesn't always mean just saying blah blah blah and like everybody's saying that the problems. So if we preach positively, whatever we realize and what you know, we have to understand this morning time and circumstance, you preach different to different people. But like seeing Muslims, if you just say salaam alaikum they become very happy and think oh my Christians are nice. If I tell them Krishna is God, who knows what might happen. And if they say, then they do like this, then they all say what those people are doing. So we have to learn many things in this country that who's that guy, that Islam guy that writes on and holds the band and television, Idris, he's famous in the newspaper. Everybody should get their little books and study. You know he's got a whole thing why you shouldn't watch TV. Very scientific. Meat. 50 reasons not to eat meat. The real story of soft drinks, you know, fast food. Like he's got so many books, Insurance association and books. I found them in Penang at the gardens. So these Things are important that we know what we're doing and why we're doing it and what we're not doing and why we're not doing it. So we have to find out. And many, many people that aren't devotees, that aren't Hare Krishnas, they know a lot we can learn from them. Like television. Somebody said this guy has a really amazing little book about television and he's quoting books from America. One of them is called Plug In Drug. That's the name of the book. Doctors in America trying to ban it. Like children that are 2 year old are not illegal to watch television. As they see it's ruining the teachers in the school. Everybody's so distressed. But the pressure is there. So we have to know, you know, what it's and get the taste that's a cure country and have a higher taste. Anyway, we can go on. But I don't want to lecture. I was thinking, my son, I don't want to say drink. We want to get young people to speak out. So we'll leave it at that. But this kind of covers all the topics and it's very good. I think we warmed up. Lord Chaitanya said to get the lotus feet of Krishna. It's Vaishnav Seva Nama Sankirtan and serve the devotees and chant the holy. One of the most important activities of all the different activities and all the different kinds of talking about Krishna, chanting and the holy name is the most important. So we need Ramai Swami to record. Somebody should make first class recordings and start distributing the CDs all over Malaysia and get everybody jumping. See, we have a problem in our movement that we tend to insulate ourselves and we have something that everybody likes. If we present, everyone loves it. They see Rathiyatra. Except in la there's some Christians and they love the ratiyata because they come every year with their signs. You know, this is a demon, this is the devil. And they write the Krishnas and so they actually love Rathyatra too. It's the only time you can get a crowd. But we, you know, we need to get out of it. Just think of ways to give it to everyone. Then we'll become very strong and big stuff.
All right.
Did I say anything wrong?
Thank you very much. He always has a good association and he's on Navadiprikrama. He had time to fly over for Navadev Bikrama. Then you get some of his association. Leo coming in for the Ganga safari. What do they think about Mirage association? Gam Safari. How was that for the youth?
Very amazing and aesthetic Inspiring and very grateful that.
Absolutely maybe we make only for youth.
We'll have a relationship one vote just for the youth. Okay here as far as the winning. We got a tie here.
Between.
Well, first of all for the plus first place team avoid the group.
And.
Second place what's your cheerleader? Then third place. Basically we got the Shivasku others all kind facing them. We had for the negative side the first group was. And second place was the Microsoft put in five different things. But because they were the first group to drop out. Therefore we have to because they dropped they didn't complete the third round. It disqualified everything that argument else tied the third. So that leaves us figure out overall who's the first. So three points for winning, two points for second. Then we got Sri Krishna Chaitanya with a total aggregate of five points. And a greater group with a total aggregate of five points. Tying for first of course. Let me go into penalty shots at the end or something. They actually got trouble plus and seven negative. That right here group where Sri Krishna only got 11 negative and 7 plus. We are the most humble.
I read one Christian preacher, he was saying how he used to play Monopoly game with his grandmother and she always beat him. And she said the grandmother, she was expert and she told him someday you'll learn this game. And then another guy moved in the neighborhood and he learned and he beat his grandmother. So she said I'm very glad that you learned to play this game so nicely. Now I'll teach you something about life. And she said it all goes back in the box after the game is over.
It goes back in the box.
There's no winners. That's a rule of life.
I didn't realize he thought so that it says how to deal with your parents or something. But he said it's going to be a little. So he made. He has to tell me whatever he offer tomorrow time's up, right? Okay. Is a Jude seminar. So after five minutes other side. You know how our Pilates Charlie have stressed the program on congregational development. Srila Prabhupada said that originally Loy Chitaki didn't make any temples. It was the next generation of eight temples. Lord Chaitanya was working doing house programs, doing street kirtans and using existing facilities to preach. Some places they think that we have to first build the temple. Then we can start to preach. They spend 10 years building a temple. By the time they're finished they're so tired out that they don't want to preach anymore in some places. Some places they do preach. You don't want to wait for giving people Christian access side by side. The temple is a facility to meet together to teach daily worship, to have a facility for education. But in itself, if the temple is not used, then it has a limited value. So in order to make the maximum use or whatever facilities we have, we need lots of Ka Conscious devotees. You see, as I go around the world, sometimes they see these Jehovah Witnesses. They call them Kingdom Halls. They're not very big, they're definitely smaller than this room here. But they're used to gathering the people together. And in their mission they have to go out and preach at least one day a week. Otherwise they're not Jehovah Witnesses. They have to do another two days of promise. But if you know Tagore in his Rama program, he every devotee should at least visit five houses a day. So go with the victory flag of the Holy Name in your hand and visit five houses and tell them the glories of the Holy Name and tell them, you know, violation lead a holy life. So we are much less developed in the present time. People are so busy even for the weekly meetings. Many people are too busy. I can't tell. Or just do going out and preaching to people, cultivating people. It's very important that you don't sleep on it. I've seen congregations where they have rain on dynamic program like this kind of the regular program without making any effort to really spread a little bit, you know, so some people leave and some people join. The group always stays the same size even after 10 years. And then maybe after 10 years it's even smaller. In South Africa, around Durban, they 30 non hunter groups. They've always had 30 non hunter groups since as many years as I can remember. They complained that the numbers are elusive. So it's Kanya's dream for Krishna Consciousness world to reach every town and village. We have to be very active in our Ka Conscious development, in our development of the congregation. Most of our people live in their homes and we want them to practice Ka Consciousness from their homes. Somebody really is fired up to join a temple. But sometimes we consider. But I spend most of my time discouraging people to join temples. More than encouraging. Just because some people who may be in the middle of their green hostile life, they have children, they have a job and something like they get this intense desire that means leave it all and join the temple. Join the community. When they don't really have it all figured out because in most cases, temples don't maintain brihastas. If they do, they maintain very few simple rabbinical brihastas who are active in preaching and caring for the congregation.
Or.
Doing puja or some management in the temple. So somebody doesn't fit in to that program, that's not really viable for them. Temple's not going to maintain their rehasha life standard unless they're connected, intimidating, something very positive for the community. In fact, the biggest critics will be the other vihastas. Why you're maintaining him or her, what are they doing? We are working. They want to see anybody. If they're very active and they won't be complaining, they'll say themselves who'd like to contribute. Just like our Kamala Khar who was preaching in Baja area. All every hospital says let him leave his job and just actively preach. So in the future we do hope to be able to engage brihastas as a career preacher. And for that we're trying to develop a pastor program. We're in the process of developing it. We've already kind of launched it, although still it's in the formative stage. Initially we're having a combination with the Niagara Institute of Higher Education and the Confucian Development Ministry to develop a curriculum that we feel is necessary for someone to be an official pastor, like the pastor of religion for the congregation especially. Again, it doesn't mean necessarily they have to be a full time preacher, but they need to gain the skills. So they do different courses. Some are philosophical, maybe like having a bhakti shastri because you get the Bhakti Shastri, Mayapur, Vrindavan, whatever it's offered, or even here by correspondence. So they get the Sivaki shastras. That's one of the different philosophical needs. So these kind of conventions, what different seminars are giving. So then some of the seminars may be able to accredit. If you complete a seminar, you get one or two points towards your degree as an ISKCON pastor, something like that. In some of the courses there's a five day leadership development course. So that may be something that is good for a pastor to know. There may be. There's also of course our Bhaki Biksha course for distance. They launch this year a special introductory course which is to develop skills for people who are dealing with the congregation that's especially geared for devotees working in temples and reception and life member department and what they call Varsha, Varsha Puja department, things like that and how to deal with the people. So we have one professional who was working for for a company in Orlando selling timeshares and he went through a $10,000 training course on how they're taught, how to treat the people that come as guests, how to establish rapport with them. So there are many things, skills which we're quite used to for people dealing with visitors. So we found this also to be something that all devotees dealing with congregation could also take. Although it's an introductory course, some things to write, but it's good to know these books. There's an ISKCON counseling training course. It's about a three day course to train people on the basic elements of counseling. Counseling is different from preaching to somebody. Sometimes the best way of dealing with the situation is to be counseling. And counseling includes things like thank you for bringing the family. What's it called? Active listening is one name for it. Otherwise it's called expecting my mind affirmative. But it's not affirmative, it's emphatic. Emphatic. Empathetic. Empathetic listening. Listening with empathy. Like you're concerned as part of it. We have to listen in the straining course, it made us sticker promises. You wouldn't tell anybody all the surprise aspects of it, but just how to listen and make you listen to that person. And as long as you go on talking, you can take notes. You have to remember everything I said and you have to repeat. It's harder now sing. Is that you hear what the person says and then you reflect it to that person. That alone encourages most people. That this is the person actually heard me and understood is one of the big things that people feel that they never understood. So if you've heard and understood it. So counseling, you're trying to help the person solve their own problems to a large degree or if there's a conflict resolution, that's another aspect of the counseling. There was sometimes the father and son, husband and wife, different things. So counseling is an aspect of being a pastor. So like many other practical things. Maybe how to perform a wedding.
Yes.
Maybe a special like another module which could be like how to perform samskaras for somebody kind in that way. It may not be the basic course, but could be additional like a specialist so that person can perform all day samskaras and things. The idea is right now we tend to just like in an emergency, we just train people up on the job and hope for the best. We'd like to gradually get it more systematic so that people get a regular training. In a couple places around the world they're developing and some People have developed, I think Ishan Rahi developed a course to that new people coming. And also in South India, the developed ones who are trying to combine that maybe separately, we'll have to see what they are when we publish them as books. How to guide somebody through the first six months of their coming to Ka consciousness. What they need to learn, what they need to be equipped with, to be to practice Ka consciousness and later to train others. So this is the kind of areas that we're trying to develop with in our ministry this year. Also the gbc, we combined with other ministries. We had a meeting in Alaska at that time. You got any of those marker pens? He comes equipped. We say, here we have. We have a devotee. We can have a few more family. We figure that the devotee was really the most important thing in our society. The prophet said he could build a house, or they were said to have built a house for the whole world. Building blocks of the devotees, just to.
Make sure.
You don't know if it's a lady or man. So there's so many ministries of iskcon. Here's the ministry of our congregational development ministry. We got here the Green Hosta ministry. You got a youth ministry. You have an educational ministry. What else we got? We got child protection ministry. We got book distribution ministry.
Judicial.
Judicial ministry. You got the cultural ministry. You got the justice. Yeah, yeah, justice ministry. It's called justice. So there's different ministries. There's two more. I can't remember all the suddenly 20 different active ministries. So we figured that at different times of the devotee's life, we got bis like a ministry signed and preaching, maybe in the youth. The youth best days, then they get older, they get married and they do not spend ministry. Of course, you got to be also a woman's ministry. Unfortunately, we don't have a man's ministry. So we found that at different times, through the service of the devotee, through their development, the different ministries would be helpful or served. The whole purpose of all the ministries is to serve the devotees, to facilitate them to have a better Ka conscious experience, a more meaningful experience in the devotees who are in the congregation and the devotees who are in the temple. In this way, we realize that all the ministry, sometimes there's overlaps, like congregational development overlaps, sometimes with Brihasa youth, because we're dealing with rehastas, but especially to developing and expanding it. But we don't get into details, maybe of grihasta counselings and things like that. That's for their domain in terms of engaging the grihastas in their congregation. That's a part of it. So we'll form now a ministries council where we want to see that all the devotees and all the leaders, they get trained up by the different ministries. So here we're wearing this. This is my own ministry here, the Congress Development Ministry. We want to say that we are working in cooperation with the other ministries. Oh yeah, there's the communications ministry. Communication. There's the child protection office, which is handled up against any child protection, child views behind us. And there's deity worship. So what we're doing now is that we're developing, like in our pastoral program, we may say to people they have to get a go through a course with the communication ministry. Maybe not necessarily so, but for sure you're the CTO and he does also the counselors course. Communication does the leadership part on that one. And daily worship, if someone wants to go into maybe a basic deity worship for us. So like this, a different ministry, we work together how to facilitate our devotees that we have here more expert and trained in their different activities like that. Of course. This is what I want you all to know about this program. And you know what the title for this seminar is that you have to do the congregation development now, otherwise later will regret it.
Right.
I think don't blow the fan on the back wall because all the pictures are kind of on the people, not on the wall. Now, in order to facilitate that, we need to change the bodies within what rehearses we get. I don't know in this two hours how much you can really cover. Like in other places. At least an hour and a half for the seminar. An hour and a half. Two hour and a half session, three hours, you can cover a couple modules. This is very tight. So.
