We have our chairman of GBC here, Sri Bhakti Chaitanya Maharaj. And of course he can speak whatever he likes to, but it was suggested he speak on education of the congregation. I just like to point out that in where Sri Bhakti Chaitanya Maharaj is preaching in both South Africa and in the far eastern regions of Russia, Maybe many other places also, like Lithuania. I don't know all the places by heart, but I noticed like in South Africa, there's very expanded congregational preaching going on. And there's a lot of programs for education of the congregation. And I went twice to the festival in what's nearby Maul, but what is that place in Siberia? What's that place called? Altai, Altai region, almost near the northern border of Kazakhstan in the Siberian steppes. There is only one temple in that whole.
Region, more or less, one or two temples. But.
Hundreds and hundreds of devotees, maybe five.
Six hundred devotees gathered together. And.
I asked, how many are members of the temple? And one lady raised her hand one year.
And nobody raised their hand the other year. But.
They'Re all very, very sincere and very fired up devotees. And.
Every city in that area, they have.
Many bhakti-bhiksha groups and ramahat groups. They have maybe ten on an average in many of the big cities like Barnaul.

Opportunity to become Krishna conscious. Back in the old days, maybe 20 or 30 years ago, there was the idea that if you wanted to be a devotee, you had to live in a temple, and if you didn't live in a temple, well, you were just some other category altogether. We have hardly lost anyone. We have hardly lost anyone from our congregation over the last 10 years or so. Whereas before that, as we said, there was some blooping going on from time to time. It wasn't that unusual at all. So, therefore, we say an educated congregation is a solid congregation, stable congregation. And we recommend these educational programs. We're not interested just in a whole lot of numbers of fallible soldiers who when some difficulty comes they just get smashed down and then there's nothing. Well, you know he's already trained up. But no, it's very inspiring. You see, we want to see very mature devotees. In fact, I heard that there was a problem that the congregation was being so well educated that the temple resident and devotees, when they went to preach to the congregation, then they realized that they had to also study to keep up. Otherwise, their preaching was not up to the level that was They get caught making mistakes by the congregation. So, you know that Lord Chaitanya, He's taught that Krishna consciousness is for everyone. GRIHE TAKO, BONE TAKO, SADDHA HADI BOLE TAKO Whether in the renounced order or whether in the grihastha order. And so, everybody needs to study the teachings. I am very glad for these organized educational programs.
Who is the next speaker?
So His Holiness Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj, Mhati Tirtha Swami has also been someone who has been very active in the field of congregational development, community building, karing for devotees. In fact, he is still the GBC in Croatia and Slovenia as well as in Bosnia where there's many congregational devotees and they have a big annual festival with almost a thousand devotees attending. as well as in Western Africa and South Africa and many places around the world. So actually for me personally also he is a very big inspiration. His dynamic preaching mood. So very eager to hear from His Holiness Bhakti Sita Swami Maharaj.

More.
And more of the devotees in ISKCON worldwide obviously will be there because of the congregational preaching as we extend ourselves.
More and more uh into the world to every aspect of the world we.
Realize that this is there's a bhakti latavija there's a jnana beach there's something like a congregation or a community beach there's certain things that nourishes the वर्क्ति लकत बीच, एक वर्क्ति लकत बीच, एक वर्क्ति लकत बीच, एक वर्क्ति लकत बीच, एक वर्क्ति लकत बीच, एक वर्क्ति लकत बीच, एक वर्क्ति लकत बीच, एक वर्क्त जब आप कम्यूनिती के लिए देखते हैं, कम्यूनिती करता है, करता है, करता है, करता है, करता है, करता है, करता है, करता but more there is guarantee that that association will go on and will grow. But as there's more things we can get as good or better, with or by ourselves, there's less reason to enthusiastically embrace congregation. So our congregations are as powerful as we are able to address the genuine needs helping the devotee to become Krishna conscious. Keep in mind, I said needs, not wants. Because if anything we want, it may not be essential for our spiritual acceleration. So there's like a dual track existing. Because every vana, every ashram has specific needs for that person to grow in that Krishna conscious. A householder who has one or two children, who has certain needs that are different from a householder who doesn't have any children. We realize that someone who is more permanently inclined has something special that they need and special that they also can offer to help to create more genuine congregations. So all throughout the world and.
All throughout our projects, we want to.
Hone in more and more about what are the genuine needs that our members are having to be fulfilled, so that they will stay with us. Like R.K. Chandi Maharaj was saying how it's so phenomenal how in South Africa that the congregation is growing and so many people are leaving and many times they are even more active than the devotees in the temple and many different projects.
And.
We have to be the most merciful, the most solemn, the most kind, the most eager to be comprehensive in our sharing. And so as we are involved in Sivaya and not moksha, we are constantly trying to find ways of how to glorify Krishna and to let as many people know that Krishna is their greatest protector, their greatest well-wisher, and ultimately their greatest lover. So we can't do that only in our temples. We can't do that only in certain parts of the world, but we have the entire world and to find so many ways to try to reach people so that they can reclaim what we all have lost. I try to keep aware of certain.
Patterns within our movement as well as in the world.
Right now, I was looking at recently a recent World Health Report.
And especially, if my right is saying, even more so in the rich countries, even though they have more material things. So that means that more and more people are really suffering. And we have to be kind, so we have to find ways how to help these people. And the way to ultimately help them is to give them something that's going to give nourishment to the soul. So through our congregational activities, we can distinctly be able to do this, because people can see that Krishna Consciousness is for everybody. They can see that Krishna Consciousness is very practical, that it addresses your educational, your political, economic, social and psychological problems. Because all these problems ultimately are coming due to spiritual bankruptcy. One or two other short things.
He used so many things of modernity to be able to reach more people, to be able to help them to see how to access pure ancient Vedic culture. Many people came, many sadhus came, and they just wanted to reach many people, but they were not holding on to the effort. So in our congregations, we're not just trying to gather a lot of heads or a lot of bodies. but we want to gather a lot of people who have given their hearts, who have given themselves to the process of Krishna consciousness. So this Chiranaguti or full surrender involves giving everything back that Krishna has made available for us. और अगर हम करते हैं, करते करते, करते करते, अगर आपने करते हैं, अगर आपने करते हैं, अगर आपने करते हैं, अगर आपने करते हैं, अगर आ are simultaneously maintaining fix and keeping Kṛṣṇa in the center. So all over the world we want to become energized to be able to do our part and see that less and less people are suffering because they are not having the connection with Kṛṣṇa. We want at least to be able to give them the opportunity to say yes. How they use their free will, that's up to them. But it is our position to make available the classical message of Bhakti-rasa to as many people as we can, in the most ways that we can, in the purest form that we can. And one of the major ways we do that is that we refine and we allow our congregations to become more and more involved intricately in the essence of Krishna consciousness.

At various levels. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's tour of South India is very nicely described by Krishna's Kaviraj in the Chaitanya Chathamrita. Have the mood of service. And as devotees, of course, our goal should be to bring everyone to the highest level of perfection. But at the same time, we realize that there will be some who may not come to the highest level, but still want to indeed be in service. And our ultimate goal is to take Krishna consciousness to every town and village to every individual. This is what Tepe Dev Mahaprabhu instructed us. But if that is our goal, to take Krishna consciousness to every individual, to every town and village, then obviously we need a big army. If we think that preaching can take place with the help of a few brahmacharis or some places have big brahmachari ashrams,
Our goal should be to encourage these individuals also. And if we encourage these individuals and keep them in service, it is quite natural that they will also take more and more interest in the process of Sharanam Kirtanam and make spiritual advancement. We have seen all over the world congregations playing a big role in spreading Krishna Consciousness. I just heard from either Bhakti Chitra Head Swami or Bhakti Chitra Swami how in some places congregation is putting on big festivals. I can speak from our experience in India. At one time in Bombay, Hare Krishna land, the Janmashtami celebration was being organized only by the temple devotees. Then about seven years ago, we decided to engage the congregation. As many of you may know, Prabhupada gave us many wonderful gifts and many programs for engaging people in devotional service. And one of the programs he gave us was a program of life membership. Many people think life membership means you just go and get their money and then say bye bye and when you need some donation again go back to them. But that was not what was Prabhupada's original intention. Prophet's original intention was to make people life members, give them books, give them association and inspire them to become devotees. I personally view the life mentorship program which Prophet started also as a congregational program which would serve two folks. So the congregation is playing a very important role today in spreading Krishna consciousness. The congregational development program should be one of the top priorities in every temple. And if we as leaders realize the importance of congregational preaching and try to engage people in service, then we will see that Krishna consciousness will spread very, very fast. to the congregation is helpful in rakyat, book distribution, organizing festival. They have the mood to serve and our business as sadhus is to encourage people at all levels. Prabhupada used to give the example of the blind and the lame. Of course, he used the example initially to show how western wealth and Indian culture could work together to save the world. And I think it would be very wonderful if we can all endeavor to follow in the footsteps of South Africa, and also endeavor to educate our congregation in proper books, because as they develop spiritually, they'll get more and more committed to Krishna consciousness. And as we heard from Maharaj, you don't even hear, you don't see any of them glooping. So, as they understand the philosophy, they'll get more and more glued to the Krishna consciousness movement. and become instruments for spreading Krishna consciousness as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu wanted all of us to do.

Utility is the principle and purity is the force. So wherever there is purity, there will be spiritual force. We have seen that people are able to live in temples and somehow or other stay in maya quite successfully. And we have also seen that people are able to live at home outside temples and be completely Krishna conscious. Thank you very much, Srila Prabhupada ki jaya!
Hare.
Krishna! I want to thank His Grace Ravindra Surya Prabhu, who has always given us a very illuminating and dynamic and concise explanation of the mission of our Congregational Development Ministry. So I'll just say a few words to offer my respectful obeisances to Srila Prabhupada, Susheela Thakur, all the assembled Vaishnavas.
Spiritual masters on the stage, and all.
My God-brothers and God-sisters, nephews, spiritual nephews, nieces, children and devotees and Vaishnavas who are present on this occasion. Maha Saruddhi Vachalo Bhangurangaya Thegini Ati Pasa Mahamanday Sivarul Vinachari Nampadumana Namana Om Sri Chaitanya Swaroop.
If anybody needs translation, I hope that.
You know how to speak a language. Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l-Baha'u'l- and to give them up for Godhead. And he said he wanted to see that the whole world was free from suffering, that everyone was filled with love of Kṛṣṇa. I remember Śrīla Prabhupāda once told us that most of Chaitanya's devotees were all gṛhasthas. Most of them were practicing from their homes. In those days, There were very few people living in temple communities even Lord Sri Karnada didn't build any temple. Temples were built by the 6th row swamis and the next generation. So, when we have areas in the world where we are banned or we are not allowed to preach openly because of the repression of the government, then congregational movements can still go on and it's going on. Similarly, everybody needs encouragement and needs some guidance, shelter. So that's, we found that the most effective way of providing that to the congregation, and it's largest once it gets expanded, is by having units, congregational units, groups, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, karena, Actually, we are here also, we have another illustrious guest here, but he is preparing for the drama that his holiness Bhakti Maharshi Swami Maharaj.
Who else?
Hari Chandra Maharaj is somewhere, somewhere, oh there. We have Hari Suri Prabhu here also. many others. So we have seen how from large Sunday peace programs and then having congregation in the small groups, this way you can get a better care for the devotees. Otherwise in South Africa they have both Anahata as well as they have this training program, education. Through the education that's probably also does much that a group would do, at least for their philosophical and practical trainings. What we want to empower is the bhakti teachers will empower their congregation that they also help to spread Krishna consciousness. Bhaktivinoda Thakur is, and even Srila Prabhupada, they both were very exemplary as re-actors, how they could preach. Prabhupada was distributing books, publishing books, Bhaktivinoda Thakura dari Manchester, he organizes the Navahata and hundreds and hundreds of Navahata groups. So it's possible for people to perform wonderful spiritual activities even while they're working. And we hope that all the devotees who are doing different services in the temple, it's a great opportunity for them. Preaching is the essence.
Bhaumachari, everyone can sometime, give a little time to go out and help in preaching. We think that Lord Chaitanya wants to spread this movement so the whole world is no more suffering, no more misery for the people. Everyone's flooded with Krishna consciousness and he said that to make a Krishna conscious centered world. To achieve that, obviously, we need the help of everybody. Just like God should come and say, I order all human beings that whoever they need, they should tell them the message of Krishna. So our congregational development is also to engage everyone in this effort. Nobody that cannot help someone else to be Krishna conscious. Tumhari naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam naam na Mere people are going to go back to God here by helping other people being Krishna conscious. If we are not helping other people, all of us are being violent on them. If we have the medicine and we don't give it to people who are suffering, then that will be very unfortunate for us and of course for them. So there is not much to be said, but what we want to do is just go back to the awards show where we started a little late because the devotees were so ecstatic in the temple peer time. I took them about half an hour.
To get over here.
But we're very, very grateful. I don't know if Bhakti Maharaj wants to say something else. Okay, Bhakti Maharaj said he wants to give his message to you in the form of a plate. So I'm going to hand over now this ceremony to our Congregational Preaching Development Ministry Secretary, His Grace Kunti Adas. And then we're going to request to visit the special guest we have here on the stage to help us to give out the certificates to the winners of this year's awards. We'd like to also thank Prema Padmini, Devi Bansi, and Haridwajayi Venugopal, who are working for our Congregational Teaching Newsletter, which comes out about four times a year. In there we measure the temple's Congregational Teaching development, in terms of how many kinds of group programs and different kinds of outreach programs they have, house programs and so on. We measure about their temple programs, how many people come to their Sunday feast, whether they have children's programs, whether they're sending out mail outs and making home visits. Then we have this cultivation, how the members are being cultivated. And then finally we have.
What's the final thing that you want?
Oh, the individual development of the congregation. We have a G.B.C. authorized.
In.
1992, a six-year program. So how many people are chanting? One round, four rounds, eight rounds, sixteen rounds, at different levels of spiritual commitment. Mereprastha, kailas kailas, kailas kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, kailas, individuals who have done some special service. He said, there may be many temples here who deserve an award, but they hadn't sent their scores in, their reports in on what they're doing. Bhaktivinoda Thakura requested anybody who wants to be recognized by the Parampara for their congregational preaching, they need to send in a score to the head office. So we hope that everybody, all the temples will send in their reports on what they're doing so we can have up-to-date records. And that will be also inspirational for other devotees to know that this is how the teaching is developing. For those who have sent their reports in and for those who are helping in coordinating all this reporting and so giving you all the information, we want to give them a big hand also. Thank you. Hi Krishna, so for the small temples category, I read the 3rd place, 2nd place and 1st place, so if anybody is here from that place, please come and take the certificate for your temple.
