A 2003 spoken lecture by Jaya Pataka Swami (Visit to Slovenia) explaining Bhagavad-gita teachings on the eternal soul, conditioned life, and how living entities are fragmental parts of Krishna. The speaker contrasts the temporary mind/senses with the eternal self, gives parables (a king, a general and a horse) showing accidental contact with scripture can liberate, and emphasizes practical Bhakti practices — hearing, chanting (Hare Krishna), association with devotees, and initiation — as reliable methods to control the mind and attain spiritual realization.
Sam, it's Ram. Ram. Ram. Ram. Sam Sahil. Anybody here does meet English translation? She will translate. No, but should I read English or just let her do the translation? Translation will be quickly understood. The translation. The living entities in this conditioned world are my eternal fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses which include the mind. To be in the post of the digital Sunday detail in Manasa business English. Someone who can translate better English upon father. This is a very, very important verse that shall probably use many that we are. We living entities are the fragmental parts, small minute parts of Ka. That means that whatever qualities Ka has, we also have similar qualities. Unlimited quantity of those qualities where we have a minute quantity, just like the strangler problem that Rob Moir has a little gold in it, but compared to a big gold mine, it's just very insignificant. So like that we have the same qualities, but in small quantity. But because we have the same nature, the same quality, we're able to directly relate with Ka. We can develop our relationship with Ka perfectly. That brings us to the question so that who am I? That we're all parts of God. Everybody is part of the supreme Lord. All the living entities, not only all the humans, but all the animals, the plants, the birds, the bees, the fish, the microorganisms. The spirit, living force that makes each of those alive is the part of Kaona. So that's why we are all actually brothers, sisters. Universal brotherhood is there because you all have one common source. So this type of consciousness, if the whole world would have it, then we wouldn't have so many of the wars that we have today in the world. There's so many wars just because people are identifying themselves because of different bodies, different nations, different. But if they bring it back to the original we're all part of the same supreme Lord, then we can have universal peace. Srila Prabhupada called this the United nations of the spiritual world. When all the devotees congregated together. We just had a tour around India this April with 130 devotees from 38 different countries, including Slovenia and Croatia and many others. And people were really impressed because so many different nationalities are all working together cooperatively. And there was a similar cooperation because everybody was in this consciousness. Sometimes people say, how are you going to change the world? But we see that even big, big political efforts and forces are not able to stop sometimes the hatred between different people. Watching what goes on in Palestine and Israel, it's very unfortunate. So many people. If we can get above the sectarian vision. And come to that spiritual viewpoint. Then we can see everyone is one under the Supreme Lord. Also in Ka consciousness, we see there's only one God, but he has different names in different languages. Once we took our tour to Bangladesh. And we were there before a big crowd of about 30,000 people, about 8 nationalities on the stage. I asked each of them, tell me what the word is for water in your language. So someone would say voda, someone would say aqua, Someone would say agua. Each one had a different words, but that was the same substance. 1. It's another thing the different names you have for God. So then each one said in their language, bogad, Yos, God, Allah. They gave it different names, but they're all talking about the same person, just different names. No, Allah is the only God. God is the only God. Boca is the only. It's a cement. It's just different languages. We're all talking about the same personality. So these things are very simple. But because we don't have these in this world, we're facing so many troubles. Then sometimes people, they say, well, I want to be true to myself, who I am. I want to do what I want to do, because it's me. But here we see in this verse that the spiritual entity is struggling with the six senses, which include the mind. And according to the different births we go through, we get conditioned. Even you can see somebody's wearing one channel. And they a very wealthy family. They may develop certain habits. If somebody is born in another kind of family, they may also have a different nature. So all kinds of conditioning goes into our development. So when we say, who am I? What we think to be ourselves is actually a combination of our mind, our senses. We don't really know who the real I is, who is the real self. Because we should really be acting on behalf of the eternal spiritual self that we are. And we should control what we want to do with our senses and mind based on our real sense self interest. They don't know what their real self interest is. And so instead they act for the limited, temporary interest of their senses. And this way they get frustrated because they're not really satisfied. So our Ka consciousness, we're trying to help people to discover their real personality, their real self, so people can understand themselves. But this is actually what I am. I'm a combination of spirit, of psyche, intellect and physical. And ultimately it's the living spiritual force, which is Kuaya. When the living force leaves the body, the body is dead. What can you do with the dead body? This is considered the abcs of spiritual life. To know that we're not the body, that we're the spirit. So but even very great scholars and scientists and educated people, public leaders, very few of them actually understand that they're not the body and the mind. And someone may be very proud of their body or very proud of their mind. And they may have really a wonderful body or mind. But after all, they only can be in heaven for a very short period of time. And then they leave and again have to take a umani. If by cutting off the circulation, your hand starts to go numb, we start to lose the sense of feeling, then it proves that this Bhagavad Gita verse is correct. I've done it and it works for me. But you don't have to believe me. You can try yourself. We're sitting in the heart, inside a little, you know, inside the special close place for the living entity. And we're giving all the information through the different senses and nerve systems. The living force is microscopic, atomic and science. 1,10,000. The tip of the hair. Just like that, molecular. But this is anti material, molecular. It's a spiritual animal. It's so powerful that it can bring alive a human body or elephant or even eternal conscience. This mental nature, one consciousness. This table doesn't have any consciousness. But when you start tapping on the person, they start to respond. Why are you hitting it? Because their body is conscious. You take the soul out of the body and it's also not going to respond anymore. So because we're part of Krishna, we can see Krishna things to things. If we develop ourselves spiritually, we can talk to him, we can touch him, we can walk with him. That possibility is there. So that is actually the greatest experience for any soul. Even to associate with one of the devotees of the Lord who's awakened is an exhilarating experience. You know, a little bit of spiritual light is so powerful that it can completely change your whole destiny. So that's why we're trying to encourage everyone to add the spiritual aspect to their life. Because we're part of Ka. If we come in contact with anything that is directly connected to Krishna, Krishna, it increases our spirituality. So hearing the name of Ka, that's not different from Ka, chanting Hare Ka, that spiritualizes our consciousness. Hearing the histories of Lord Krishna and his devotees, they're also not different from Krishna. That also spiritualizes us, awakens us. Prabhupada used to ask, how many of you like to sing? All you have to do is sing. Because the name Krishna is Not different from Krishna. It will clear away the coverings which are covering the spirit soul. We can eat spiritualized food. How many like to do this kind of sacrifice? So the process is so difficult. Whatever we're doing, we just do it by bringing in contact with Krishna. Then it all becomes spiritualized. Whatever you do, you just think that I'm Krishna, I'm offering this to you. If we have under the guidance of bonafide spiritual master, he can show us what things we can do for Krishna, it's almost everything how we can do it. So in this way, once we start to clear away the coverings from our mind, we become become spiritually happy, blissful, peaceful. And we're able to also influence others in that direction. So this chapter Bhagavad Gita is a very powerful chapter. It's called the Yoga of the Supreme Person. That's in Sanskrit called Purushottam Yoga. And this particular verse has 20 verses. This particular chapter has 20 verses. All of the verses are spoken by Krishna. And in the last verse of this chapter he says this is the most confidential part of the Vedic scriptures. Whoever understands hence the teachings of this chapter will become wise and know perfection. All the endeavors that the person does for no perfection. Sir Padman Gura one of the histories of his the Vedic literature. Parvati asked Shiva what is the glorious of this chapter? So Lakshita gave a history that many millions ago there was a king called and he was consolidating the world under one global government based on spiritual principles so that there be king and the world. So there were. He was successful. There was some, there were some military attempts needed with a few wayward states. But finally everything was brought under the United nations on the planet. So the Shinga Maharaj, he became a emperor. But he agreed to follow always the guidance of his counselors. So he was managing things, leading things very fairly all over the world. But he had a general who was the one who did the military operations that consolidated the different countries. So he was awarded with some royal titles like a duke or lord or something, Earl, Marquis, I don't know, whatever, something. And he was given some palace, some facilities, but he was an emperor. He thought I did the fighting, I should be the emperor, I should rule. I was the one risking my life in the battlefield though, so I should be the one to enjoy. He didn't want to have the same purpose as Nashingamara. His purpose was more to enjoy. So he planned an assassination of the emperor, overthrow of the government, the sort of his plan the day before they were going to strike, the general died. He got some disease. So everything was, you know, all the people, like scattering. The king never knew about it. He didn't know there was a plot. So there's a clearing place where when people die, they go there and the subtle body and the soul goes. And they're given like an instant judgment what's the next birth point to be? And then they're allowed to again take birth. It all happens in a matter of seconds. It's called Yamaluk and the judge is called Yamaraj. So. So the general body was lying there, but the soul, the real person who was the general went with his subtle mind off to the there. The karmic judge reviewed his case. You wanted to be the greatest. You wanted to kill the king, even though he was very kind and generous with you. But you don't have the karma to be a king. You didn't do so much pious activity in your life to deserve to be an emperor of the world. So. But since you wanted to be the greatest, I'll let you be the greatest in something. You can be the greatest force. You will be born greatest horse in the world. Congratulations. Well, there he was. Next birth from. He was top general in the winning empire army. Next word is. So then one businessman heard that there was a really award winning horse and he wanted to see it. He said, this is the best horse in the entire world. This horse should go to the emperor. So he bought it for 2 million rupees. What's the money like? Tulas. Actually, in India, tula used to be a form of money. It was a copper or gold coin, was called a tula was 11 ounces of gold. So small gold coin. I don't know if there's any connection, but that is connection everything. Anyway, so this businessman took the horse to the with great difficulty he transported to the capital city of the empire. He was trying to get into the king's palace, but they wouldn't let him inside because you don't take horses inside palaces. But the emperor heard that someone wants to show. So he sent his veterinarian doctor and his cavalry general to check out the horse. They reported to him, it's a super horse. It is the best horse you've ever seen. Then the emperor went to see and he saw, he was very pleased. Wow, this is a great horse. Greatest horse. He said, okay, I'll take it. He asked the businessman, how much do you want? He said, don't worry for you, I don't want to make any profit. You just give me my cost. 4 million. That's how much you gain, right? 2 minutes. Anyway, businessman. Thank you so much. So the king, emperor got his blue horse. And one day they decided to go out hunting. So all the young princes and the generals and the noble people, they're all there with their horses. They're going to go out into the forest chasing stags, male deers to see. So they went. One stake appeared in the forest. And the king was following because he had the fastest horse. He went away from all the other horses and he was finally all alone in the forest. He was very thirsty. So then he came across the stream with a beautiful waterfall. So then he let the horse drink the water. And then he tied the horse up and he drank some water. And he saw a palm leaf on which there was a verse written in Sanskrit. So what is this? What is this? He read it out. Maybe it was this verse. We don't know exactly. One verse. I have seated everyone's heart. Fifteen. And from me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed I am the compiler of Vedanta and I am the knower of the Vedas. No sooner did he say that the verse, the mystery verse, the horse died. 4 million rupees. But the king wasn't worrying about that, because something far more amazing was happening. From the sky descended a brilliant spiritual airplane he couldn't even look at. It was more brilliant than thousands of suns. He saw from the body of the dead horse. Out came the subtle form of his general. General, what are you doing here? Then the general, he entered into this spiritual airplane. And he took out a fully stretched form. And the spiritual airplane, making the sound of Vedic hymns, went out into the sky and disappeared. So the emperor wanted what is going on and what is happening? So he walked up to the top of the hill where the waterfall was coming from. And there he found one hermitage where there was some saintly people, some sages who were meditating and studying the scriptures. So he asked them, you know, what is this verse? I found this, this verse on the downstream. It looked, oh, this is our missing verse from the 15th chapter. And blew away in the morning. Thank you very much. And he said, well, look, this is what just happened, explained everything. You tell me what is going on here? Then they had a vision. They could see what was the past and the present. So they explained to him what happened with his general and why he was in that verse, how he tried to plotted to assassinate him. But he died. But by hearing the words of Krishna as spoken in the this verse. He got purified from all of his bad karmas. And he could retain return to his original spiritual platform. So then the king copied down the whole chapter, chapter 18, chapter Bhagavad and began to chant it every day. So eventually he also went back home, back to Godhead. So we can understand from this history how like this General because he was just chasing his senses. He was going, you know, from human to an animal. He was so much disturbance in his life. But even he accidentally came in contact with the Bhagavad Gita. It changed his entire life. And he got liberation. Kabusma2 so what the real secret is, don't leave it to chance. You can directly read Bhagavad Gita, chant Hare Krishna every day. And you can program your definite. You can program your definite liberation from this material world. And your achievement of full spiritual realization. So Lord Chaitanya, he gave us a very simple process to do this. Normally it used to be very difficult, but again, very simple process. Dancing and ecstasy and sometimes hearing some thoughts, philosophy, meditating on trying to understand these things and engaging yourself in Ka connected services. By doing that, you can become perfect yogis. You can realize who you really are. Discover your real self, your real personality. The hidden you that's always happy and blissful. So we hope all of you, how many of you are doing this already? How are you going to give it a try? Koala. Lord Chaitanya, he's very happy because he wants to see you all happy. When you're happy chanting and dancing ecstasy, then he'll be happy. So thank you all for waiting for me and allowing me to give this class to you. I live in Mayapur Dam in India, the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhui. He appeared 500 years ago to give this process to the world. And it was brought in 1965 to the west by my spiritual master, His Divine grace. It's a confidential secret, but we're trying to that everybody can take advantage if they were intelligent enough to figure it out. So I'll be here tonight for answering questions, seeing the audience. But if you want to maybe my secretary and Aminanda retired. If you want to see a slideshow, I can show you the slideshow of our recent preaching safari throughout India after dinner. Krishna, any question on this topic I'm going to discuss today. I was wondering why the police achieved liberation before the King at home. She wanted to know how. Why did the horse would see liberation first? The King had that question too. But I was in a hurry. I want to. I let that little sign off. That horse was suffering like anything. Apparently he could remember his previous life also. So he was really suffering that horse's body. So he was very curious to find out what the king was really. So because he was so attentive, he got purified. Apparently the king wasn't quite so attentive. Sometimes when we're in suffering, there's another in the glorious of the eighth chapter, Bhagavad Gita, somebody was chanting half a verse in that chapter. And so many ghosts were liberated. But the person who read the verse wasn't. But later the person kept chanting and then got liberated. So it's not exactly mechanical. It depends on your attention. Someone may chant Hare Krishna very attentively and achieve all the results very quickly. Someone may not chant so attentively. They take more time. Is that okay? Another question. Tomorrow we have this preaching which will lead to the village. Maybe give us some your memories. How you started preaching in India. What was the first day in which he comes the villages of India? Well, I did not read anybody of including one that was my tenth of thousand kilometers to run the whole area. And always in pan. You'd have to depend a lot on Krishna. Usually if you have nice kirtan and you distribute some Persona to the people, then the people like it very much. The rural people tend to be more open than many of the urban people. So one time, Lokanad Maharaj we inaugurated the paliatra that was in Italy, leaving from not too far from here. It's nice that you're calling an echo gem. And because it's a bullock cart and bullock cards are very ecological favorable. But also the word echo in Sanskrit, Ek ekar means the one. It's also one of Krishna's names. So it has a dual meaning. Echo caravan Echo meaning ecological as well as eka. In India, they think they were elephant also. I don't know if they still do, but it's hard to feed an elephant. They eat about 100, 200 kilos a day. They're always eating such a big body that they don't just eat all the time. So that means you have to always be feeding them. But somehow they always got food. They feed the other thing. And they would put on different kinds of pitching programs. And they sometimes show audio, visual slideshows and audio things. It's quite an interesting program. So when I heard they're going to have a public they wanted to help in the rock reunion. I was aspired to come here think that it's actually not today but it's couple days. The cards here it's not ready yet. This we've done a vote vote program and a goag program going village to villains and talk to them. It's really nice to meet so many people. Bring the ritzes to the grassroots to mention this. I heard this is called New Yoga Git. So Yoga Git is in the Mayapur. That's the center of the nine islands, the nine spiritual elements. And we certainly walk around the yoga pit. Come back to the yoga pit when we do our Brikama Yoga. Yoga means, means to connect, to link. So generally yoga we practice, we practice yoga. That means you're linked with the supreme through some process. But here yoga Pitta pitta means holy place. A holy point, like a very specific point which is very holy. So Yoga Pita means that place where Ka came down from the spiritual world and first made contact with the material world. Since Lord Chaitanya came as his own devotee, He's Krishna who came as a devotee. Therefore he actually came to the cabinet in this world. So that place where it happened is called the Yoga Pita, the contact point, the contact place. And it's considered to be very powerful place for monkey and can and spiritual strength. So that's the birthplace of what Chaitanya is called Jopita. So here you're in Yoga Pita. So we hope also you give spiritual energy, enlightenment to all the joys. So we banji. The previous verse 16 gives the soul's designation. The mind is the cause of all tribulations in the material world. Soul's designation, as long as this fact is unknown to the conditioned living entity, he has to accept the miserable condition of the material body and wander within this universe in different positions. Because the mind is affected by disease, lamentation, illusion, enmity. It creates bondage. It creates a false sense of intimacy. So therefore what the false ego is doing first is we identify that I n divided and we serve the mind. Mind is one of the six senses. So we become Godasa, servant of the sense, as the mind wants. The mind is always changing. Therefore we are always chasing after different things. The mind's not satisfied. So yoga means we have to control the mind. Astanga yogis try to control the mind by breathing exercises and meditation. Very hard to control your mind that way when if someone is able to do so, then they get mystic powers, they can transfer themselves to some other kind of so many my family can get liberation. So controlling the mind is the key to get out of this material world. But we practice process in Bhakti Yoga. So we control the mind by engaging the mind in the service of yoga and ka. By the mind being always engaged in the service of ka and becoming controlled, it becomes our friend. The controlled mind is the friend of the living entity. Sometimes the uncontrolled mind is the enemy. Prabhupada gives us some different weapons with which to deal with the night. Ultimately, the best weapon is to engage the mind in Krishna service. But if somehow you're not able to do that, mine is too turbulent. Another weapon is just to neglect the mind. I won't follow the like a naughty child tells the parent, I won't follow. For so long we've been serving the mind that the mind feels that he is the controller. And finally the mind. You just tell the mind, no, I'm not going to serve you anymore. But it's not the same time. He took another step. He said, not only do we neglect the mind, we punish the mind. We beat it, you nonsense mind. Why don't you say, surrender to the atma, take care of shoes, and then smash the light 100 times? 1, 2, 3, 4. God smashing the line early in the morning. In this way, the mind learns who is the boss. Here in Krishna consciousness, we don't have any abuse. It's not allowed. Shouldn't abuse your wife, shouldn't abuse your husband, shouldn't abuse anybody. But we can beat the mind. But this also not abuse. This is simply training the mind. Since the mind is not factual, it has no eternal existence. But the mind, because it's been reflecting, it's been acting as the object of the soul, it's become very powerful. So we need to tell the mind who's the boss. Mind is supposed to be our servant. Not that we are the servant of the mind. My other ones, they did this drama of the genie. The genie rub the bottle and the genie comes out. He says, what do you want? I'll give you whatever you want. So. But this genius, you have to. I'll give you whatever you want, but you have to keep giving me things to do. Otherwise I'll kill you. Give me five kilos of gold. Okay, quick. I got 10 seconds of I kill you. Tell me what you want me to do. Okay, I want you to put a lamppost all the way from Ljubljana to all the streets of Slovenia. So he goes out. Wow, this is pretty heavy. I thought I was gonna wonder how long it's gonna take him to put lamp posts up Pretty soon the genie is back. Okay, next. So he's got to continually tell the genie what to do. Otherwise the genie is going to. So it's getting really heavy, doesn't know what to do. The mind is, you know, driving him crazy. It always wants more and more and more. I mean, the genie actually is playing with is actually like the mind. That's what the drama is all about. Okay, so if genie wants to kill him, he has to keep the genie busy like that. Your mind will kill you if you don't keep it somehow engaged. So then it happened to me that the whole and the Lord has shown them how you can read the Bhagavatam, read the Bhagavad Gita. You can chant Japan the next time genie came, said tell me something to do. So read the Bhagavad Gita 10 times. Finally chant Hare Krishna. There's no limit to how much you can chant. So this way, genie lets control to stay there, chant. So the genie is a nice drama because everyone has a good time in the end. Then they explain how the genius like the mind. You don't keep the mind in ka service and the mind always once more and more. It's never satisfied. And finally you become very much depressed. Some people become so down, they become suicidal. When they can't think of any way to be happy anymore. Then they give up. Okay, better to die. So the mind is actually killing them, isn't it? So it's actually quite realistic. The genie or the mind. So we want to control the mind by these different processes so that the mind becomes our friend. If it won't be our friend, then we're this ignore the mind. We're not going to follow the mind so you can be. We're going to follow the orders of Guru and Krishna. So today we're having initiation ceremony also. These devotees dedicated themselves to following the order of Guru. This is the process of devotional service to be Krishna Dasa. Everyone who's initiated some name of Krishna or Rahi. Servant of the servant. No, Krishna. So this is the way we control our mind. We're not going where we train ourselves not to obey the orders of the mind, but to train the mind to obey the orders of the soul. How many of you in your life have been a servant of your life? How many know want to serve the Krishna? Spiritual master Krishna. This is the whole process of Bhaiti Yoga. We realize that we have the eternal soul. And we're not meant to serve the mind, but to reach the mind of sciences. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel. We publish new videos every day.
