A recorded 2003 lecture by Jaya Pataka Swami on Śrīmad Bhāgavatam (1.2.15) emphasizing that constant remembrance, hearing, and glorification of Krishna (described metaphorically as a sword) severs the knot of karmic reactions and leads to liberation as a byproduct of devotional service (bhakti). The talk uses examples from Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s life, discusses initiation (samskaras) and the responsibilities after spiritual birth, and gives practical guidance on chanting, puja, and engaging congregations in devotional practices. The recording includes brief audience interaction and concludes with questions about spiritual world characteristics and initiation.
By being in that fire of spreading that message of word Shaitanya we get so much tiger connection with. So you can all take inspiration from this lesson. Lord Chaitanya also Brother Shivaka. He was preaching from his home. I want to adapt their goals in life to make Krishna consciousness the top goals also taken care of. With sword in hand, intelligent men cut through the binding knots of reactionary work Karma by remembering the personality of Godhead. Therefore, who will not pay attention to his message? The contact of a spiritual spark with Machera creates a knot which must be cut. Who wants to be liberated from the actions and reactions appear to work? Liberation means freedom from the psycho reactionary work. This liberation automatically follows for one who constantly remembers the transcendental pastimes with a personality about it. This is because all the activities of the Supreme Court is Leela are transcendental to the modes of the material nature. They are all attractive spiritual activities and therefore constant association with the spiritual activities of the Supreme Lord gradually spiritualizes the conditioned soul and ultimately severs the knot of material knowledge. Liberation from material bondage is therefore a byproduct of devotional service. Attainment of spiritual knowledge is not sufficient to ensure liberation. Such knowledge must be overcoated with devotional service so that ultimately the devotional service alone predominates. Then liberation is made possible. Even the reactionary work of the fruited workers can lead one to liberation when it is overcoated with devotional service. Karma overcoated with devotional service is called Karma Yoga. Similarly, empirical knowledge overcoated with devotional service is called Gyanla Yoga. But pure Bhakti Yoga is independent of such Karma and Gamma because it alone can only endow one with liberation from conditional life, but also one the transcendental loving service of the Lord. Therefore, any sensible man who is above the average man with a poor fund of knowledge must constantly remember the personality of Gandhi by hearing about him, by glorifying him, by by remembering him and by worshiping him always. The Goswamis of Vrindavana who were authorized by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to preach the Bhakti cult richly followed this rule and made immediate literatures, immense literatures of transcendental science. For our benefit they have chalked out ways for all classes of men in terms of the different castes and orders of life in pursuance of the teachings of Rma, Bhagavatam and similar other authoritative scriptures. Second chapter, fifteenth verse. That's title of the chapter entitled Divinity and Divine Service. So here, in order to fight Karma you're all being given a sword, a mystical sword. You've been carrying in your hand, blade out, ready to fight. What is that sword? Always remembering the personality of God. Remembering the Lord always cut the knot. Yes, the previous verse is explaining means to hear is to remember. That's when we are remembering the Lord or focus giving the class. I'm hearing the class about Krishna. Another way of remembering. Watching the drama last night was a nice way to remember the past times.
Yes, most of the spectacular culture are traditional.
Otherwise remembering just thinking about the lords, telling other people about Krishna consciousness. This is our secret, the secret weapon. And it's interesting to keep the sword in the hand. That means you're ready to fight. We have to remember Krishna. Then we're in big trouble. Then we're not going to be able to cut through the part of Karma and we're going to be entangled more and more. Therefore we need to organize our lives so that throughout the day, maximum time possible, always glorify the Lord this way. What do you do when somebody starts talking Punjaba? You want to remember Krishna? Does it ever happen? Then somehow one way to change the subject. Wasn't it guys good this morning? Didn't there wasn't Maharaj really interesting about Krishna? Those who are thoroughly addicted to Punjaba disgusted in your lack of friendship. But those who are Krishna consciousness. That's the sword unnecessarily going off to useless things bring it back to Krishna. And the mind is very very easily diverged. Therefore we have to protect the mind always from this diversion. Eventually the mind is supposed to become cooperative and then it becomes your friend. Even then it's not such a friend. You can completely 100% rely on language. You still have to watch out for this because this friends. So now if you think you see the great devotees whenever they were in danger, they thought about Krishna. And even better than that is even when they were in success they thought about Krishna. When they are victorious, they also thought about Krishna. In fact, Humpty Daniel was saying that in our victory, in our success, now we're losing you. When we have difficulty, you're always there. So by difficulty we get you and by success we lose you.
The.
So Krishna can be with us always if we want you of heaven with us. Pandoras were so fortunate. They could directly have the Lord's association. Talk with him, walk with him. But what she kinda taught us, we can also have this association with the.
Lord.
In another form through remembering. Like glorifying the Lord, hearing about the Lord, remembering the Lord you can also bear association, the transcendental platform. There's no difference between these different kinds of association. We can get association with the Lord through separation. Separation. So this separation is something we can also practice. But to be able to actually feel separation, we have to become reattached to Krishna. So this verse is not telling us how we can attach to Krishna by serving his beloved devotees, serving the holy Dharma, the things connected to Krishna. In this way it's possible to awaken our attachment to hearing the messages.
The Kim Obrazam was warned that.
This means that we can become very attached to Krishna to awaken that intense desire for Ka. That's really what is needed. So we need to develop that. We need to awaken that stare in our heart. Chaitanya. He was semi pandit and he was performing his verbil duties in a very rational way. In fact, if anybody came to his Sanskrit school without tea light, you were publicly embarrassing. Children don't like to be embarrassed. You know, you've seen children don't like to be embarrassed. You would have a person stand up. Where is your tila? You don't have any tila. That means you must not be taking your man and worship your deities. So how can you come here to study the Shastra if you haven't done your morning spiritual duties? I mean, before anybody could go to my bandit school, they had to take their genji's bath. They had to put on their t lock and worship their deities. Otherwise they couldn't come. You can't be here in this class unless you go back home, take your bath with your puja. Seeing someone's forehead without tilak, it's like seeing a slaughterhouse actually feel like it's important. There's a whole chapter dedicated to Gopichanda and Tilak and Padma Purana. And by saying they, one is reminded of Ka. So that's another way to facilitate people Mama Krishna, just by wearing tea. Of course, when you're working or sentimenting, there's some places you can't work too much. So trying to say what Chitanya was very firm about. All of this practice went to Gaya after his father passed away to perform a shroud ceremony, his father's soul. There's a ceremony where you do worship to Vishnu, offer the results to the deceased. And this temple in gaya, Vishnu Gaya, 5 km away from Bod Gaya is especially dedicated to this kind of worship. In fact, that sons and daughters are called in the Sanskrit putras and putris because they can liberate their Forefathers by performing this kind of ceremony. Now generally everyone who is not in a renounced order they always perform these ceremonies for their foreplay. When he went there, he found he had some association with Sharapuri because on one or two occasions he visited the house of was a celebrated disciple of dearest disciple. He had served his guru very faithfully. Listen to him being right here. So when Mok Chaitanya met ISRA Purni he realized that he needed to be fully initiated in the Vaishnav Dharma Brahmanas. You see, in the Chakrias and Vaishyas they receive the Brahman threats When they're children who married all under somewhere between five and 15 they get the first mantra. That was what all those students had already they have received the Hare Ka Maha Mantra or the Panjatrita mantras also begged him. There's a system actually one should beg for initiation. Prabhupada said for the first and second initiation the disciple needs to ask for it. And for the third initiation. So this is the tradition. I'll never be able to cross over the ocean of birth and death unless I get initiation. So please have your mercy upon me that I can be initiated and I can properly worship Krishna. At first Isharapuri was trying to escape. No, if you don't give me then there's no hope for me. I don't know what is use of living.
Yes.
To his very very enthusiastic and heartfelt please. And finally the Shah Khali agreed gave him a you know how this is done. But then Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasoti insisted. After some time they went again and then he asked again that he did wishes the I don't know, I actually forgot to answer giving so many excuses not to initiate and finally went home without initiation. Determined enough. If you don't get initiated, I don't want to see her face again here in my house the third time. Otherwise I think I can take my life or say you finally then he got permission to tears started pouring from his eyes. He started to manifest Krishna framework Krishna Bhakti in a very amazing way. I always tell the Biharis people guide us in the state of Bihar in India as many states.
Yeah.
I tell him his best friends and he first manifested love of Krishna. He started dancing and tears were pouring out from his eyes.
Not eight in Europe.
Have you ever been to India or Bangladesh? Not so many either. Covid in India people crowd around if you do something unusual. Sometimes being a foreigner is unusual enough to get it. So what to Speak as Lord Chaitanya dancing around crying in ecstasy. Pretty soon there was a big crowd watching and watch the time it became very self conscious of all these people watching. Then he went and did the worship. Then I do also Abhishek milk, yogurt, ghee honey. So they had personally poured in water and the holy sea. So it said that actually when you personally do the worship you felt more ecstasy. He was wondering why he saw so many words only bursting with abdish more tears. Sometimes it's very good to let the people learn how to do this pujas and do some offerings. I think that some temples in India were just very nice for involving the people and serving the world. Since here haven't anybody been to India yet. This is something you might think about telling everybody. Having the experience of doing some direct worship to the Lord. Like on the 8th there's special encodes in India. They put Radha all over the world. Wherever they have Radhar and Krishna deviants they put Radharan Krishna on a swing and they go in a swing Thousands of people swarm on the temples too. This means it's an opportunity everybody initiate uninitiated Anybody come and pull down. Have you observed that festival? This kind of hands on worship? It's very nice to do something direct service for the Lord. So I was there with some temple I went to where they had the people sit down or stand up, whatever they have fold your hands. But most people, they don't know what to do when they come to a temple. You see even Indians they come here, they don't really know what to do Going the Lord is naturally obeisances and do many of these things. Some of the temples I personally think is very good for the congregation for new people listening when there's a function and you have things that the people can actually do for Krishna. Well, not because I think of them I might think that it makes me make a difference. But it says here in the verse that as we do things for Christians remember Him, we worship Him. Then this cuts the knots of karma. I was doing a program in South America town hall of a city called Cuenca and it was the month of Damodar. The whole town hall was filled of the function. We had a little Dhammada Astika puja Everybody came up and offered a candle and put in the same car. These are brand new people. They don't know it wasn't like of course you do these things in the temple but for any kind of program this for many new people. But they also really appreciate it. So this is also recommended. We do some puja to do some training people how to do. He felt so much desire after being initiated. He wanted to run off to bring down. He's running, running across the. I wonder how did he run across the Spalgu River? Like there's a river right here. Can you run across it? The Svalu river is a new genre.
Not father.
It's dry, not so high. There's only sand, a little bit of the soap. But if you dig underneath the sand within one foot, you get as much water as you want. People dig into the sand and get a bucket of water and bring that into the the temple to do the pushers. The Caesar came there looking to Ram. She was calling out, where is Ram? In some past time. And the river didn't help dry up.
It's called the bush.
The water will just be beneath the surface. No, I'm your saint.
About that bullet with the ground.
This way. All the people, when they see a nice dry, sandy riverbed, you know what they do in the morning? Maybe they don't do here, but in India they do their toilet duties. So this Rembrandt, many people drilling this thing on top of this river. So there's a word used by Goswamis, Yukta vairaga falgu, Yukta te fugu. Yes. You know the difference? This falgu comes from this river. The river looks dry. Just beneath the surface is still all kinds of juice, all kinds of water where someone's putting a show on or being on. But actually they have so many desires. So what Chaitan advised us to avoid falling away, right?
Because what Chittanik is the one Nazis.
Begotten and rather to practice Yukta Vairavaya. Yukta means that you don't look renounced, but actually you're engaging your thoughts, your words, your deeds. In Christian service. You may be a student, maybe a householder, maybe a family man, but you're using your house, you're using your wealth, you're using your body and Christian service, your family. Everyone's engaged in Christian service. This is very good, putting on a show of renunciation. So like this, running on this riverbed and Vander Van Dalen, Yaidu, Vrindavan, Yedu Vrindavan. Then a voice came from the sky. You can't go to Vrindavan now. You have to start a Sankirtan movement. They are eating what every now. So like this, the organizers of Krishna Leela step in and the mind works to tell you that next After Lord Chitani came back, initiated, was initiated, went back to Bengal. Everything changed. Then he started the San Fiction movement. Then he was completely changed personality. Talking about Krishna. Remembering Krishna, he went from being in an argument to Pandit and now he is Bhakta. Some people thought he got a little imbalanced and his ears were disturbed. He told mother Sachi, you better attire. You better do something with your son. Yeah, it seems feed him tender coconut and cool him down.
Muscle.
I gave you some oil yesterday. This is called. So like that. They're recommending putting these different kinds of oils on his head. Then someone else said, no, no, no, it's not going to work. It's very damn serious. Kid, tie him down with ropes. Bind his feet in his hands. Don't let him out. He hurt himself. Nothing is wrong with my son yet.
Near.
Not going to tie him down. Neighbors disturbing mother Sachi so much. So like this, a word was swaying around. So then he went to see Shiva's Pandit one day to find out was he having a disease. So he asked permission to ask a question. Explains. The people tell me that I'm sick, I have a disease. And I really want to find out am I sick or what do I have? So then, so what are your sentences? So well, Whenever I hear the holy names of Krishna, tears are coming my eyes, my voice gets choked up. Sometimes I faint. Sometimes I can't help but laugh. How about that? Basically what's happening? Yes, you do have a disease. I want emphasis too. Nobody wants diseases. So you know what he said? He wants.
It with it.
See what symptoms you have is you have a lot of ka. It's very rare, very rare case, very rare disease. Even Brahma and Shiva, they want that disease. What time inside he saved my life.
That's what she has told this possible.
It's so beautiful. Now whenever I think about Krishna, whenever I chant his holy name, I think I would have lost all my desire for something so beautiful and so wonderful was false. But the general people, they're not going to understand this because they don't hear something very rare. So why don't you come and chant here in my garden? I have a nice walled garden and I can invite, you know, some confidential devotees to be able to appreciate your excellence. So like this, after the initiation of Chitani, so many things started happening. Some devotees are very enthusiastic and then say okay. Now Prabhupada explained, initiation is just birth, spiritual birth. Everything before that has been practiced. Once you take initiation, that's a firm commitment. And now you're Going to be connected to Krishna.
What we teach about Krishna.
So from that new birth, it's time to really get more, even more serious and to do something for Guru and.
Krishna.
To grow as much as possible. So because it's a kind of declaration of war in Maya anybody had a Maya thought somebody coming to mind. So they have to get the sword out, kick out all this Maya thoughts by bringing back Krishna.
But what's the Nat logic with Mishni.
That learned that's remembering Krishna, teaching, glorifying Krishna. So when the devotees are taking Prisadam about Chaitanya, everybody must be talking about Krishna, even the servers. If you wanted more precisely with saying if you wanted more. Everything was just spoken by the Mahamadri universal language. Everyone could communicate despite the holy name. Practice this art of communicating to Krishna especially during prasad this. Now you're all armed. By this verse, you mean the weapon those who are intelligent of protecting sound even though he don't have a taste for something. As the next verse we'll read tomorrow tells us how we develop a taste. Even if you don't have a taste yet, do it like medicine. But if once you get enough of this medicine, then you'll eventually develop a nice well, you do it because it's medicinal, you know, you have to do it for your protection. This is also the principle in the old songs. Always remember Krishna. Never forget. Till we get back to Krishna. Till we develop Krishna pain where it's just naturally we have to force ourselves to hearing and chanting. In all these practices. The more you get initiations and the more you get purifications. It just means the more serious and careful you must be. This is the secret.
Why don't Krishna Singh not that.
Oh, now I'm an old devotee. Now I don't have to remember Krishna anymore. I remember Krishna so much I cannot remember. Maya has some momentum. And if you go travel. Any questions? The stitch study needs.
Somebody to attain level of Yishtan without taking formal education.
Normally the stage of Bhajana Kriya is considered firmly achieved. When you get any change. See if there's the possibility of being initiated and someone doesn't do it because of false ego or some kind of offensive mentality.
Is.
Then that's offensive. But if somebody really can't find a guru because maybe they're in the middle of the middle of Siberia somewhere.
Maybe.
Like 20 years ago someone in Siberia didn't have any access to. There may be some exceptions like that some okay. They don't take the help with its authors when it's there, then it's like refusing Christians help many factors figure out what is the origin of this question. Try to advance as much as you can. Even before initiation.
From now on.
Should have initiated and be fixed in the forearm fan.
Now when some very go to partners, they beg for initiation. But can we do the same thing with all our priorities? If once Guruv refused to give us initiation, can we come again and break him?
Well, if the guru refused to say you were chanting 16 nouns, instead of chanting 16 nouns, you weren't following the four principles and you follow the four principles, things like that. And we should try to come up to the standard that guru wants.
Then.
Go back to the guru once you know you're done with Shivas. Of course, sometimes some gurus they don't want to take disciples. They don't think that someone's their disciple for some reason. In those cases, it's no hard and fast rule. Once you have to do that some guru they won't be convinced.
What is guru means? What is the reason?
You know, some gurus sometimes tell people that I won't take you anything to. I have heard that some people were able to convince him later my understanding in the scripture. He said, if somebody is a qualified candidate, they sincerely want initiation for spiritual advancement, then it's not good to refuse them. That is proper to accept him. One can test them to make sure that they're really serious. That's my understanding. That's how I realize when guru told me, I don't think I had such a big capacity. So I had to be more selective. There is no forum where gurus talk with each other formally to standardize some of these things. If that can even be done. And he's giving him water. Now one guru requires that everybody has to read all the books of Prabhupada before somebody wants to be under shelter for six years. One to three years testing is reasonable. One to three years. We have our minimum standard which is required in this standard. Standard that's used in Russian until we get the recommendation letter. We know that they're not that easy. I have a checklist that I get people that anyone who took shelter they should get from the secretary. The checklist of things you have to complete before initiation. List of things pretty basic, but everyone should know they don't have a bachelor program. Sometimes they don't know some of the basic things. So I make a checklist like that. Baba told me that before I could be in shame, I had to read the Bible, Gideon and Shima number of times they have maybe slightly different requirements. In Malaysia we standardize it for all our gurus. I don't know if there's a standard. I don't think there's a hundred in his life. He's other than waiting times for getting my last question. Why specifically in that way it mentions that Bo Chittanya wanted to be connected with Madhavandra Puri because he was the first one to manifest model of Krishna would appreciate you within me was one of the best disciples of Mahavinda Puri. That's the indication you get from living with Morris or flooding. When he asked for initiation he said why different devotees choose a particular spiritual master. Something always a bit of a mystery at many how the faith is inspiring mystical. We hope a question may for some superficial reason someone has a nice beer has a nice something.
About that.
Should be for spiritual inspiration.
And it does not deal performance machine of the basic.
Which one is writing his mind. But this is you can kind of understand why he got the mercy from that angle.
Yesterday. Tonight we discussed with devotees variety of spiritual world. And we started to argue are there in spiritual evolve like things like night and night. So what's your opinion?
Whatever there it's very pleasant. Nobody's racing to death in my hometown. You can't really understand what it's like in the spiritual world because we don't have any experience of living energy like.
That.
Will be there and will be able to experience the house. This material mind is not going to be able to conceive of something which is totally beyond this. There's no dots like the kind we have here. In this virtual world with his dogs journey and tense sometimes against there can be another kind of no. Okay. So thanks very much. I was given a garland and bagel baga that was offered to the new Taguorghinis. There such as seems to have matured. Seems to be more or less no longer mature. Thank you for watching our videos.
