20031126 || Śrīmad Bhāgavatam Class (4.24.62) #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

This is a recorded Śrīmad Bhāgavatam class (audio transcript) in which Jaya Pataka Swami (speaker) explains the meaning of Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 4.24.62 — a song of Lord Śiva — and uses it to teach core Vaishnava doctrines: the Lord’s universal form (including five material elements, mind/intellect/ego, and the Paramātmā), the authoritative conclusion of the Vedas that Viṣṇu is to be worshipped, and how other deities (Śiva, demigods) are to be understood as different energies or devotees of Viṣṇu. The lecture includes scriptural citations (Bhāgavata, Bhagavad-gītā 9.23, Viṣṇu Purāṇa), devotional practice notes (prasāda, temple roles, gatekeeper motifs), regional anecdotes (Bengal, Śrīla Rādhā-kṛṣṇa/Balarama worship, Lingarāja), and audience questions on prakṛti, elements, and souls.
Foreign.
My dear Lord, your universal form consists of all five elements, the senses, mind, intelligence, false ego which is material, and the Paramatma, your partial extension. Who is the director of everything. Yogis other than the devotees, namely the Karma Yogi and Jnana Yogi worship you by their respective actions in their respective position. It is stated both in the Vedas and in the Shastras that are corollaries for the Vedas and indeed everywhere that it is only you who are to be worshipped. That is the expert version of all the Vedas report by Srila Prabhupada which the devotees are always interested. There are other forms that the Lord manifests in the material world, including Brahma and other Devas, and these are worshipped by materialistic persons. In the Second Canto third chapter of the Srimad Bhagavad times it is stated that those who desire material benefits are recommended to worship different types of demigods and in conclusion the Bhagavatam recommends the devotees. The Gyanis who are known as Moksha Kama and the Karnis who are known as Sarvakama are all aspiring to worship the supreme personality of God and Krishna. Even when one performs Yages as stated here here called Kalaa Pai, you should always remember that the demigods are but ancients of the Supreme Lord. Actually the worshipful Lord is Vishnu Yages. Even when different demigods are worshipped in the Vedic and Tantric sacrifices, the actual goal of sacrifice is Lord Vishnu. Therefore the Bhagavad Gita 9:23 at his step. Translation Whatever a man may sacrifice to other gods, O son of Khunti is really meant for me alone but is offered without true understanding. Thus the worshippers of various demigods also worship the supreme Lord, but they do so against the regulative principles. The purpose of the regulative principles is to satisfy Lord Vishnu and the Vishnu Purana 3.8.9 the very same thing is confirmed. Vanasama Charavata, Purushena, Paratkuman Vishnuara, Rajate Panta, Nanyattattosha Karanam. Here it is clearly mentioned that the Kami Gani are Yoi. In fact everyone worships Lord Vishnu if he is actually expert in knowledge of the Vedas and Tantras. The word Kobida is very significant for it indicates the devotees of the Lord. Only the devotees know perfectly that the supreme personality of God had Vishnu is all pervade within the material energy. He is represented by the five material elements as well as the mind, intelligence and Ego he is also represented by another energy, the living entities. And all these manifestations in the spiritual and material world confined are but representations of the different energies of the world. The conclusion is that the Lord is one and that he is expanded in everything. This is understood by the Vedic version Sarvam Kalva Ram Brahman. One who knows that this concentrates all his energy in worshipping Lord. Thus empty translation of purport for the Srimad Bhagavatam fourth camp, the 24th chapter 62nd verse of the Shina in the matter of chanting the song sung by Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva is giving his mercy here to the Machetas, sharing his song with them, seeing how Lord Siva goes from one point to the next in a very unique way. So thus he covers many points. Sometimes he's glorifying the devotees, praying for the blessing to have you. In a moment's association with the devotees, he said, by even a moment's association with the devotee, one loses all taste and interest in the results of Karma. Dhyana. What to speak of blessings of the Devas money here, please. Glorify the Lord to his universal form. And then he's explaining how different kinds of Dionis worship the Lord to performing their constitutional activities. In the end he says that actually only Vishnu should be worshipped. That's the real conclusion of all the Vedas, the expert conclusion. So different points, supporting points. A universal form includes the Paramotma, includes all the natural elements. The universal form therefore is also not different from Christian, so that people feel it's different because the Lord maintains the material world just like it's going to last forever. Until at one point he decides time to wind everything up. And then in a totally detached way, the whole material world is the small God. So living entities who are living in the material world for them is quite traumatic. When the whole world starts to get destroyed, they don't believe the Lord is not affected by all these different changes. The Lord Shiva is giving us advice. Everyone should worship Ishtar. Someone this morning asked me that Japan. But some people say that the word Ra, he worships Shiva. So Ram is a form of Ishvam. So then why that means that Shiva is supreme right? Or this just means something. How to explain this? Of course, when Ramana is a Leela avatar that's performing particular pastimes, he comes as a perfect king. And Ramana had a benediction that he couldn't be killed by a human being or by an animal. No, he could be killed by demons or by many gods. He didn't ask for humans or animals because he thought so much for us, right? That human beings like the insects and the earth use studies or rakshas used to eat human beings. That he didn't start there like water. So the Lord came. He came as a human being. At least that's what he appeared to be. So he was acting like one. Go to the sadhus and paint the basis of the Brahmanas. And he worshipped Devas. Sometimes when he worshiped Shiva, Shiva came and said, My Lord, why I worship thee Me and what Shiva worship Ra. So if you don't see things from the Bhakti viewpoint then B can also be very. People get all kinds of ideas. But here you have right from the very lipstick of word Shiva this verse right on. The thing is to here Sheila is saying worship is Shulam. You are to be worshipped. You are everything, everything is coming from you. Nothing is different from you. You maintain the material world, you want to destroy it. You are the material world to the universal form. You're transcendental to the material world. So here Lord Siva in these verses he's giving very clear instructions. When Prabhupada came to India, he had the seventh chapter of Chaitanyama Cheram Ridda published as a separate book. He said he wanted a special distributors for the Maya bodies in India. As it shows that Lord Chaitanya's discussion with percussion on the Saraswati in his follows. So here you have maybe the song by Lord Shiva, a separate book especially for Shiva worshippers. I don't know in Duke if we have any Shiva worshippers. Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka and Malaysia is the predominant Hebrew. He and his family members Aman mostly the people. So these prayers of Lord Shiva are quite relevant for many, many people. But I think not even 1% of followers of Shiva or worship Shiva know about these prayers. What do you think? You're from Malaysia as if you're from South India. What do you think? Do you think people know about this curse of what Shiva and the language? No, no, most of them don't know. Never really. So we're in a very unique position because in Lord Shitanya's movement we respect Lord Shiva very much. Vaishnav Adam as the greatest Vaishnava. In fact Advaita Shara is the incarnation of Mahavishnu. Sometimes it's described as Mahavishnu and Sahasi together. There's one tachy temple in Bhagnapara, a Christian Balaram that was established by the foster son of Arunity Nagar and in that temple we entered is a Siva linga. And they say that Sri Laninga is a baker. And Krishna all around are boring. The time when there may be one of the most beautiful boring time deities. I mean by bishop they said to be self manifested Vrindava. After Dharava Devi disappeared then his foster son was devastated. Mr. Jainaba didn't have children. So she adopted one son. And that adopted son was constantly serving her associate. So when she left the material world than he was very nice. Filled with separation. But Krishna Balara manifestly found them floating stone deities. Floating. So they took those and the baby said we want to go to Namju. We want to go to go. So then he took them back to Bengal. And at first they were staying under a large banyan tree, huge magnitude. So you see that it's like a big cottage under the tree with bees. And people would gather and they'd have daily Bahuin plants to see the beehive worship. And that was the first temple. And then this place got the name Bhatna Para which means no lion village or no lion neighborhoods. Because one day no tigers. A tiger just showed up at the temple and was roaring. And so this foster son of Nethinami came out and started chastising the tiger. Why are you roaring and scaring away all the devotees? You're getting a big disturbance here. You shut up and go away. Then the tiger, he said I'll go away if you give me some Mahabhasa. So then he went into the little cottage and got some Mahabusa Krishna Bhavaram. He came out and fed the tiger. Show this. The tiger ate the Mahabasad the time you disappeared and his place against San Bina. And I forget the whole story. How he got cursed by some Rishi to become a tiger because of some apparatus on heavenly planets. Then he begged for forgiveness and so he got the blessing. Okay, if you get the Mahapasada of Vadakrishna. They had to be free from the curse. But he couldn't get any help given the Mahatma. Everybody then they go and asked Rama. Everybody would just run. So this was the first of all he would be in run. So he got the Mah Khasan. He was free from breakfast and said. So the second condition he set for going is you have to name this village after me. So then it's going to give the name Pag Prabhag means tiger. Pag Mountain village. No, Tiger. Tiger God. Tiger. Tiger God Village. Here the prophet always saying tiger gone shire. The Shire Shire, shire, English, lesser shire. Maybe a shire is a bigger. But anyway, so now there's a nice temple for that beauty. And they already had worship. But they worship him as everyone goes praise and they consider the blessing of a greater. To get the blessing of Krishna Balaram by Sri Guru Mah In Gunamodu Krikrama, we're supposed to worship Lord Shiva as the Kshetrapala. He's the protector of the holy vow. So in order to enter the holy vow, we need the blessings of Lord Shiva. Just like in Vrindavan, if you want to enter into the Ras Gila, you have to get the blessing of God. He's the gatekeeper for the Ras. Unless you have his blessings, nobody can get into the Rastili. He takes the form of a Gopi Vrindava. He's given the name Gopishva. So Mayapur. He's called Brittashiv and he's Chakra pal. And his consort was the shelter Pamika. The protectress of the Dhamma is Purimya. So for the Maishram, as we see that Siva and Parvati, they have another spiritual role that they play in relation to Krishnas, the boats and many esoteric kings. And we go another curriculum. There's so many pastimes of Lord Shiva. There's the Hamsa behind this year with all the devotees that were mired for nowhere to see the Hamsa behind me. Who is that? It's very rare to see the Diini. It's usually the Dini is underwater. But somehow just after Ramadami he was above water. So everybody went to see him. And he was in his small temple. And this is the deity of Hamsa of Lord Brahma with Lord Shiva riding on his bed. Hamsa Mahan was right on usual white Shiva writing on the back of Roma's carrier. So because previously in the beginning of the Yuga Sukkade Goswami was giving advice on Gora Bhakovic. Celestial she send your black over. So he was giving a Gaurav Bhagavat class. And so many Rishis were listening there. And when Lord Shiva heard that this Gord Bahagava advancement, he was so eager to be there to hear the past tense of voyagetania. How many of you like hearing the pastime of Voyagetanya? Go Ranga. Go Ranga. Very eager, much bigger than we are. He was so eager that he was literally burning in separation. So he was telling his Buddha to go faster. Kailash is higher up than Satya Loka. So when he went by Satya Loka. He was just a year to get there as quick as possible because this bull is too small. So Brahmanas are just there for a few minutes by his time came right back. I have to go quick before the class gets over. You know Kali Yuga and breath Planet things go fast forward. So he came flying in on the swan and all the Rishis were amazed. You know what Brahma must have come. You know they stood up, they were really surprised and they see Lord Shiva get off of Ramas 7. Listen to the Goram agava. So there's a baby celebrating that pastime of worship and Shiva Devolot is going or Abhishek Shiva they have some special kind of little blue and white flower. I don't know what you call it. They put it on top of the Shiva needing with water dripping from this pot. But the devotee comes and makes a prayer. I want to get my daughter married or whatever, you know, whatever the spiritual people ask all this. That's the problem. They burdened Mashila with Michelle requests. Then if they're going to get the blessing or the water drop hits the flower it pops open and shoots up in the air. It's pretty amazing how it explodes up and they're not going to get it. And when it hits it drips and falls off. Get out. So we were waiting outside Aldo or been here 10 to go in and then at first the priest was. I don't know, maybe this. For whatever reason all the regulars are coming there and making their all appearance of being rejected as soon as we did Kirka. The people are getting the blessed. Okay, these guys are lucky. So now meanwhile we offer an abishaykh to the Aya Salah. We were praying by the way. I was praying for Krishna conscious things. But I can't say that you go around naval time you find so many like Rudra deepest so many pastimes of rudras. There's a special hidden meel vakta linga which nobody's been able to see. Says he's one of the most powerful lingas on the planet where Ravana worshipped a linga and got the blessings to defeat the devas. So I guess the devas have hit it. You don't find it and there's a few other assayments go to land and call it a. So we learned that Siva is very much part of our culture and he has a very intimate devotional relationship with Ka A perspective that I'm in other Vaishnavas that goes did not realize that how Shiva is actually the greatest devotee. We heard that there was some conflict between Shivites and Vaishnavas in South India for thousands of years. So in Lord Chaitanya's moment, there's a synthesis where we respect Siva as the great his devotee. In fact the Lord Chaitanya would take Shiva prasadam under certain condition that if you offer Vishnu Prashada to Lord Shiva then he will take the Shiva as a Maha Prashada. So Lord Chaitanya visited Bhubaneswar, the famous Lingaraj temple. And when he found that Voyashila was taking the Maharishimha Prasad and the Ananta Vastaveda Vasana, then he took that Mahatma Sahib. Sometimes when we preach to our Indian congregation and they have at altar so many devas which I get them organized, we put Vishnu tattoo on the top and the others down or on the side, offer the Bhogarat to Vishnu and then offer the basalam to the devas. And this way they don't have the major paradigm shift. But it is a major shift. But it's not so the least. They still have the personalities they're worshipping at the altar. But now they worship them as devotees, not as independent. Independent gods. They don't know who God is. And it's like well, one of them might be right, but another not that kind of. They know Vishnu is supreme. You know, if you take this verses that you hear, it's very clear Vishnu is supreme. That Shiva's advice. And Shiva he likes Vishnu Prashad. He's more happy if he gave a mishapasan than if you are hembolga. This one Bhagavatam rests the score here. But not to explain that specifically. I guess everybody is expected to know the meaning. Akana means the devotees, they have no desires, no material desires. They just want to create Ka. They may have a desire to build a Ka house, a nice brosha or a beautiful temple or have a wonderful festival. But those are all like their uncommon because they're all meant for the pleasure of Ka. They're not material desires. It's not that devotees have no desires. They have so many desires to please Ka. But those are not material. So in that sense Sarvagam, they have Sarvokamo where the non devotees, the materialists, they have one mission on desire, they have other. It's like oh really one thing leads to the next. So they're called Sarvakam va or mokshakam. Those who want desire liberation. So you have these Three the pure devotees, the materialists and the people who work salvation that all these should perform pure Bhakti yoga to the supreme personality of Bharat Kibbah means it's like pure, it's unconditional. They may have a desire, they may be in a different platform but they should just offer the worship to Krishna and depend on his mercy to get what they want. So according to their particular mental frame they get that kind of result, kind of money got this wine. Different people get different what they wanted but at the end they're brought to Krishna, they get purified and then they get brought. So Prabhupada destiny Everyone even if someone has some material desire or if they want to just be liberated still universal process for everybody is the worship the supreme personality. So this is the same recommendation where she was given everyone to worship you Anyone should worship Vishnu dissatisfaction just as a little detail that when you offer your basis to the Devas you offer Guru is supposed to be straightforward. You can't do that because devious opposite and Vishnu is with the left side. So when you're already doing this, you're offering the Veda, you're offering the Vishnu. And all the other Vedas also worship their base institution. There's a little bit of Anika. We go into Shiva temples, the Duras temples of India. Then we offer a visit on the wayside temples. All the prasada of Jagannath is offered to Bimladev. And then after that the Mahaprasana is given on to the devotees which is a very ancient place mentioned in. There's five Raha temples there and there's the Vatarani river. And so there they had a very big Jaganna temple which we were allowed to go into and had Darshana nice temple. Let us go to all the and the Vaitani river says in the promise anyone who swims across it will cross over the Nafir world and not have to come back. So I swim across and ask my servants to bring back. So there they also that charmed temple they had this who gets all the other prasada? Because Dragona's prasada is offered to Bim we're taking the Maha Posada. So in our house we have this system remove the Bila baby and also tradition and worship culture.
Species of living entities.
But the scientists say if it is true then why human population always increasing statement has relevant to my other question. But 400,000 species of human beings and numbers are so many. So normally the human beings are supposed to be liberated this is supposed to go back to godheads. How many of the present 6 billion people on the planet do you think are heading towards liberation right now? According to the CNN and BBC, what you see, you find that people are highly spiritualized and heading towards liberation. Or they're becoming more and more materialistic. Drastic violence, terrorism, wars. So what's happening is traffic jam like that M25 during office hours or M4. Human beings are coming, but they're not going back to Ghazi. So we're getting a jam up here and the population is building up. So that's why what Chaitanya movement has come. We come here to clear the jam. But the people are determined not to chant. We have to be more clever, someone eligible than to chant to take some prasad food for all to come and have darshan, the beautiful form of Ishmara Subhadra, get purified and get back to Godhead. But we need to give out a lot more mercy to be able to clear the gem or just reaching the field giving the Bhagavatam is also cured. So during this December Marian time, let's see how many books you can give out and how many souls you can help to get liberated out of this material world.
So I was wondering, what about the Prakriti? The real sanity of the Lord is not mentioned here. Mountains. There is no mind intelligence.
Does the mountains have a salt?
So this salt together is packed all the five together. The gross energy. This is the subtle. We're talking about the subtle energy here.
These are the ashta elements, the eight elements separated elements. Then we have the soul and super soul. So if there's something that's inert matter, like metal or something, there's no soul that's a. So this universal form consists of these. Now that every aspect of the universe has got a soul. There's a lot of living aspects, including movable and unmovable stubborn. So some of the immovable objects like trees, certain kinds of mountains, even some kinds of gems. Apparently of a soul in South America he saw Mount completely barren. No man said the soul left the bomb dead. I have no way of knowing this, but some of what the reference was, but that I looked at, they looked like a living mountain. You thought Lima, Peru. You see some mountains like they do. Okay. I mean by regrets, you know, from the Vedas that sun, mountains, the mountains used to fly around.
Every grain of sun is to be understood. That is a soul and a fire. So in the inert one, which category of this five.
No they'll have. They'll have the fine elements plus pyramidal, some of the finite earth. Sand is earth, it's a solid. Water is liquid, air is air, gases, air. We have the separated elements that they have in their separated form. We have that within the human body. We have them all. We've got gas, especially if you heat the wrong things. Liquids and solids and airs, fire, digestion and we have the ether, we have the soul. Everything is in the living entities. But if we get just the separate elements, you get just another combine them together. Brahma takes these elements and makes bodies. Puts it in the soul, super soul thing. I don't know if I'm not understood. My understanding is here that the universe is comprised of all these different things. Some things may be separated and some things just like at both. We also have a physical body. There is soul, mind and intelligence and false ego. And the soul, the super soul. Where are there five elements? They're in between. They're in the 10, they're not, they're not in that. They don't have that gross body. We have some elements that are not been incorporated in any way.
I was reading in the Bhagavad conversation book Srila Prabhupada was saying souls.
But my point was that the soul is not functioning there as the. It's not a particular body, living body, you can say whatever superstore, the soul is also there.
I was trying to understand what is matter.
It's the transformation of spirit.
Because there is no matter.
It's just an energy. It is to us it appears as a separate, but it's actually just another energy of the Lord. So Krishna's finally knew that. He said it's all out of his energies. It's got. Just like the government has got, what's it called, the prison and department, the justice department, the welfare department. So spiritual energy, material energy, it's all different types of energy. For Krishna it's all not different. But in our relation to us it's a difference. We're bound and kept in ignorance by the material energy. Or we're given an opportunity to try to enjoy it and word over it. But for Krishna we're just discerns and they do different functions. For him it's not as much difference. But he doesn't directly connect with the material energy. What Siva does, that's the difference what it says in sheilas with this, that he connects. That's why he's considered like yoga. Krishna is considered like mel. Krishna doesn't have a personal kind of interaction with the mature nature he personally associates with the spiritual nature. That's why Prabhupada said, if you use the maternitra energy in Ka service, it has become spiritualized. Because what makes it separated is that it's not being used for Ka. We use it for Krishna spiritual life. When we use it for trying to enjoy it and we get entangled in loss of karma. And thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel.
