2005 || Chipped Rice Festival Class || Atlanta, USA #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

A recorded class by Jaya Pataka Swami explaining the Panihati (chipped-rice) festival: its rituals (distribution of two earthen pots containing chipped rice with yogurt), the pastimes of Lord Nityananda and Lord Chaitanya who accepted and ate the chipped rice, and how these events transported participants into the mood of Vrindavan. The speaker interweaves scriptural/historical narration with personal anecdotes of organizing Panihati festivals (including in Atlanta and returning to India), practical logistics, and theological points that chanting the holy names creates a purifying, Ganges-like spiritual flow. The recording ends with brief audience Q&A and closing remarks.
Sam. Ram. It's Ram. Ham. Sam. Nam. It's jam. Sam. It's it. Sam. I know. Sam. It's. It's Ram. Sam, it's Sam. Ram it like this. Sam. It's It. It's Sa.
The restaurant in Atlanta Renovation going on after festival Vidana, or God is a spiritual expansion of Vidana. Hearing about the festival, all kinds of learned scholars, Brahmanas and priests were there. Sit on a raised platform with him. Everyone was offered two earthen pots. One was with chipped rice with condensed snow and in the other chip rice and yogurt. All the other people sat in groups around the platform. No one could count how many people there were. Each and every one of them was supplied two earthen pots. One of chip rice soaked in yogurt, the other of chick rice soaked.
Now.
Some of the Ramanas, not having got a place in the platform onto the bank of the Ganges of the two earthen pots and soaked the chit rice there. Others who could not get a place even in the banking the Ganges got down into the water and began eating their two kinds of chipped rice. Some sat on the platform, some at the base of the platform, some in the bank of the Ganges. And they all were supplied. Two bhajis for the 20 men who distributed the food. All accepted on this universal level. So you can see that by participating in the Sankirta and movement of Lord Chaitanya, the Lord causes mercy. He accepts the devotees and his associates. Then Nikanakala Babu smiled and sat down on his right side. He kept four pots of chipped rice that had not been made from boiled pattynanda. Babuji like to take Atok chaw. Atok chaw is unboiled rice. In India there are two types of rice. This is the kind of rice that they parboil. They have to boil. They steam it in order to get the shell off rice. It's a different case. Then there's rice and they take the shell off very carefully, manually. And they get the shelled rice without any steaming boil. So Lord Nathananda was taking shira made from the unboiled, Right? Maybe for the others it wasn't so strict.
But for.
Born Nitananda offered Sir Caitani Mahabuba a place and had him sit down. Then together the two brothers began eating cheap rice. Seeing Lord Nithananda and Lord Chaitanya eating with him, Bordetananda became very happy and exhibited varieties of ecstatic love. So Lord Nintendo order all of you here chanting the holy names of Hari. So neither the holy names Hari, Hareem.
Hari.
Resounded, filling the entire universe. Let's go on. When all the devotees, all the Vaishavas were chanting the holy names Ali Ali. At eating they remembered how Krishna and Balaram ate with their companions, the coward boys and the Venga, the Chamuna. So Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Vartnit Yananda Prabhu are extremely merciful and liberal. It was Raghunath Das's good fortune that they accepted all these dealings. Really, these pastimes were a special mercy for Raghunath Das. Special way that the service of Raghav Laddath not as this ordinary meal but as that complete reliving of the pastimes of Vrindavan. In other words, Panihati was transformed into Vrindavan as a simultaneously Vrindavan and Nava dweeb at the same time. Four and tired are there. That is, same time they're having the ecstasy. The past times of Krishna and Balaram. Therefore these pastimes were very, very deep. But Lord Nithyananda and Bauranga, they accepted all this simple festival offered by Ramana Abdas in such a profound way just to give him cause of mercy. Who can understand the influence and mercy of Lord Nityananda Prabhu? He is so powerful that he induced Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu to come and eat chipped rice in the danger of the Ganges. At that time, where was Lord Chaitanya? Yes, he was all the way 500 kilometers away in Javi. But he was brought by Gordon Chimanda forcibly by his influence. All the confidential devotees who were cowherd boys headed by Sri Ramadasa were absorbed in ecstatic love. They thought the bank of the Ganges to be the bank of the Jamuna might be interesting. They have a D. Rama, a Panihatiji. The Ganges and the tree and little figures, water running. Everyone can see how see the festival. So all the associates of Lord Caitanya they were in complete ecstasy. They were transported to Vrindava. They were all in this mood. What about all the rest of the people that kind of came there for the fun that were accepted by what was happening with them? Of course, they were also being absorbed in the past times. So many people were swept away in this flood of ecstasy. When the shopkeepers came from the other villages, when they heard of sell their goods, then the sweet rice and the bananas and everything. So as they came, they bring all kinds of food. Rabuna Abdas immediately purchased it all, gave them a Good price for the good. And the very same things again he gave back to them also. You have to also be part of this festival. So this all the suppliers of the food they also other ingredients. They should also come and participate in the festivals and tradition. Anyone who came to see how these funny things are going on was also fed chipped rice, yogurt and bananas. After Lord Nirtinanda finished eating, he washed his hands and mouth and gave Raghunath glass the food remaining in the four pieces paths. Four paths were whose two word Jananas and two were Lord Chan stay with me. He had more and he sat down and he gave two to Lord Chan. Nobody could see Lord Chan, except for the rare fortunate gave. The other remnants of Lord Gatinanda were distributed to all the Brahmanas. Jagat Guru. He's a spiritual master.
Everyone.
So everyone was taking his remnants. Then Ramana brought a flower garland and placed a garland on Nitin Amakubu's neck and smeared sandalwood pulp all over his body. And they offered them betel nuts. And the Lord smiled and chewed them. Then whatever was left. When Nity Namda Turbu went and they gave flower garlands and from his own hand he distributed to everyone. So after receiving the remnants of food left by Nityananda, Prabhu and Raghunath Dasa was greatly happy. He ate some and distributed the rest among his own associates. Dasa Yehawas described the pastimes of Lord Ninja under the loo in relation to the celebrated Festival of Chitta. St. Joseph Ever since then became a regular feature. And.
And.
There'S no advertisement, there's no publicity done that everybody comes. Nobody can stay away. If you're there in Bengal, you want to go to Panihati. In fact one year here we had the Panihati festival in Atlanta early. So I raced back to India and I was there for the Panihati festival. But the rainy season had started, was heavily raining and the whole area around Panyapne was flooded. Panyapadi was high as it's white again. But there was other low lying areas. To get there we had to walk knee deep in water. He thought that who's going to come? It's pouring rain. Knee deep in water. We got there, there's like 100,000 people. Everybody was chanting and dancing. They were soaking wet. They didn't hear all chanting. Of course here we're praying for the sun. Because Navy Americans are not that into it.
You.
So my Lord, did you not? But although normally there's literally hundreds of thousands of people. See, I really didn't know what the fast was like. One day after PR instructed an important Subhan said we should the students good chipped rice and dahi there. So then we thought okay, we'll go. We packed up two trucks with all the ingredients and took off from Mayapur early in the morning. We reached there about 9:30. And then we got stopped. You can't go with a truck. We saw it was like packing people. The trucks are allowed pedestrians only. So then we walked over to see what was happening. We saw like. Like was completely, completely packed with people. And it took us a half hour to get just over to the tree. So then we didn't know how we were going to get all these ingredients. Two truckloads over to the tree. There weren't other trucks coming. And the people were so packed. It took so long to get there. Then all of a sudden it was like a sunny day right over Panihati. All of a sudden a little black cloud came and started to pour rain like a Divya. Bristly with the sunlight and the rainbow. So we ran over the trucks and people. When it rains they all kind of went off the road, went under the trees and everything for a little bit. We ran to the trucks and we just blowed everything. We took Nitinanda to blow away and Toranda. We had the be everyone loaded up their backs and just started running with the. The sacks and the pots and everything. And we got over to the tree with one load. We got about half the truck. We emptied out with all of the boys. As soon as we got to the tree it stopped raining. The roads, everything was like packed up. It was like going, you know, like separating the ocean, you know. And then when Lord she meet people. This one person was wet. He was dancing and singing, you know. And he saw the release of morning time. And then he started to sing out, you know, means they just come to.
That.
Is the vein of love. The vein of love. At that moment Guinness started painting and he's singing. And then the road emptied out, man. Again you get the rest of the ingredients and you know, loaded up, go back and everything. Somehow we were all pullies for what Nitinanda. We carried everything back again to the tree. As soon as we got to the tree it stopped raining again. The clouds went away. So actually we were right. There was no room there to make the Chira Indoy. We were fortunate that time we had a boat every time they come on the boat. And so we had to make the chira Doi on the boat. And then we made 108 clay pots, decorated them and offered to Nichinanda and Goranga on this raised platform holding dory so no one could see the offering. Then we removed the dori. And when everybody saw the beautifully decorated pots, they all started chanting. And then, well, now we have to distribute the pot and went out. When we went to the people, they.
Were all.
Where'D he go? You know? And then it's like it disappeared. Then after about five minutes, he came crawling between something.
This night.
It'S not commanded. People are so enthusiastic, so not at all did. He climbed up on a tree and we handed up passed to him. He was like mother bird. Somehow or another, we got the facade disturbed. When the government said, haribo, next year you had to come with. You're welcome every year, but you had to come. And they gave us a whole field now for our distribution. And we got bamboo queues for people to come in because it was getting so wild. People getting a little breast up, Nintendo per side. There could be a standard. And although the people there, all the devotees were chanting, everyone's chanting. Some somebody slipped in a little bit of the mud that was made from the rain. And you just start rolling in the mud. People are covered, many women with mud and chanting our ebol. And it's just like, it's really wild. Everybody is completely absorbed and chanting. So because when you go traveling, like you go to South America or something, you say, look at, here's some. You go to New Orleans, it's the French quarter, it's 100 years old. You know, you can't. You have to preserve the houses because they're 100 years old. It's ancient history of America. 1790, 1800s, 1700s and 100, 200 years. It's like very special. And then you go on some places he showed ruins of 300, 400. So here's a living festival from 500 years ago. And it's a living tradition. It's been going on continuously. So I had the great good fortune of Prabhupada's mercy, sent me to start the Panihati festival for iskcon. Going to the existing Panihati festival of Panihati. So I also take it as their cause of mercy that I also been able to introduce some of the these ideas here in Nihonihati. But we can see that this is actually something so transcendental. We need the help of everyone. We need to help Lord Nithyananda in his ecstasy to feel that he's Back in Vava, back at the side of Jamuna. So we cannot. We have here the parks, the tree, everything. The only thing we're missing is the Ganges. So the only thing we can do is that the Ganges is coming from the Lord's feet of Lord Vishnu. There's a flow coming from the Lord's feet of Lord Vishnu. So what we have to do is the only way we can provide the Ganges is we have to make the flow of what Krishna's name through the vowels. And that constant flow of Lord Vishnu's name is not different than the flow of the Ganges. It's completely purifying. You will feel deep simply by chanting the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra. So by the devotees chanting and the flow of sweat and tears that comes somehow produce a moon of the Javona, the Ganges for Lord Nityanamna, Lord Chaitanya to experience their Pulina Bhojan, their forest Bojan, the pulim. Pulim means the trees. So Panihati has so many mango trees and onion trees and so many nice trees. So we have other magnolia trees and other trees are here in this forest here. Actually it's Pas De Leon. Rod. We always heard how past De Leon was looking for the fountain of youth. You never know if he found it. But I think he didn't find him. But here we can actually found the fountain of eternal youth, whatever age one's body may be by engaging in this chanting and chanting and dancing to the Lord, Vithyananda, Bodhitanya, Bhujagannath and Radha Madanmohan. Somehow Radha Madanmohan of the deity is worshiped by Ragha Gopa. So it's very natural that they belong in Panihati. New Panihati. Someone may say, what about Takannath Bhaali, Srimanta? Why are they here? Well, they always want to be in Vietnam. So they couldn't stay away. They also came to participate in the festival here at Magihan. So just like we see what Chaitanya brought Jagannath to Brunav and to Gundichan. Supanihati is also the place of they're having this festival which brings none different than Vrindavan. So here Jagannathan Sabha also participating in these eternal pastimes, coming here to be united with their devotees in vrn. That's why we take the Ratha Rao. We come back to here because this is not different than Vridana. So you take and come here. So we're just taking from the mood.
So.
This has all happened because of Srila Prabhupada coming here and naming this Nukanihati. Coming here and having a special pastime with Lord Gorni Thay where he was singing. And we'll hear now the different. Now we switch over to the pastimes of Nu Nihati and Srila Prabhupada remembering of his pastimes. Of course there may be other devotees that weren't here at that time. And they can also say their different pastimes of Srila Prabhupada because this is basically what new Panihati or Panihati festivals are. Now we see Nithyananda and his associates. They were remembering Vrindava their thousand kilometers in Vrindavas. But they were never Vrindava. And that remembrance of Vrindavan transported them there to Vrindavan and became Vrindavan. And this is the secret of what Chaitanya Mahara was.
Luma.
When we remember Krishna, when we remember the pastimes of the Lord, we are there and remember the pastimes of the devotees of the Lord. That is also not different. You can associate with Srila Prabhupada even now. Even though physically he's not simple in the world. But he'll be present by remembering him and remembering his past times. Take a few questions and we take a little break. You take a break.
Okay.
Kitchen is calling. Any questions? Lorni can understand trying to get in the mood of Lord Baharam in the pastime with Lord Krishna. Lord Balaram was always trying to protect Lord Krishna. That looks like when you were telling the pastime of the crocodile. Looks like Lornitinanda was not feeling any.
Fear.
Trying to protect Lord.
Jt.
It's not fair to bring up another pastime.
Tomorrow.
But it happened so fast. Mochitan again with Kraken Dal mercy before anything, anybody can do anything. He didn't comment what Nithinanda's mood was at the time. He said everybody was afraid. Except Moshai Khan has got spiritual vision. He can see through the sea. Also wasn't an ordinary God. Any other questions? Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel.
