2006 || Bhagavad-gītā (10.10) Class || Avatārīdeśa #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

Recorded 2006 lecture by Jaya Pataka Swami on Bhagavad-gītā verse 10.10. The speaker explains Buddhi (intelligence) Yoga and Bhakti/Bhuti Yoga as the path of devotional service that returns the soul to Krishna, contrasts Karma and Jñāna Yoga, and emphasizes association with bona fide gurus and devotees. The talk covers how household life (grihastha) can be a valid and strong platform for devotional service when Krishna is placed at the center, touches on sannyasa and brahmacharya ideals, offers practical examples (donation formulas, temple building, family practice), and urges early and sincere engagement in devotional habits.
Sam, you have good neighbors because there is loud kids and you have a problem. Jesus Ram sa sa ma. To those who are constantly devoted to serving me with love, I feel the understanding by which they come to me is very significant. That you may remember that in the second chapter the Lord instructing Arjuna said that he had spoken to him on many things and that he would instruct him in the way of Buddha Yoga. Now Buddha Yoga is explained. Buddhi Yoga itself is action in Ka consciousness, that is the highest intelligence. Kudni means intelligence and yoga means mystic activities or mystic elevation. When one tries to go back home, back to guardian and thanks fully to Ka consciousness and devotional service, his action is called Bhuti Yoga. In other words, Buddhi Yoga is the process by which one gets out of the entanglement of this material world. The ultimate goal of progress is Ka. People do not know this. Therefore the association, not Shalom, therefore the association of devotees and the bona fide spiritual master is important. One should know that the goal is Ka and when the goal is assigned, then that path is slowly but progressively traversed and the ultimate goal is achieved. What is the ultimate goal? Prophet said here ultimate the goal is Ka. So when a person knows the goal of life but is addicted to the fruits of activities, he is acting in Karma Yoga. When he knows that the goal is Krishna, but he takes pleasure in mental circulation to understand Ka, he is acting in Jnana Yoga. And when he knows the goal and seeks Ka completely in Ka consciousness and devotional service, he is acting in Bhakti Yoga or Bhuti Yoga which is the complete Yoga. This complete yoga is the highest perfectional stage of life. The person may have a bona fide spiritual master and may be attached to a spiritual organization, but still if he is not intelligent enough to make progress and Krishna from within gives him instructions so that he may ultimately come to him without difficulty. The qualification is that a person always engages himself in Ka consciousness and with love and devotion render all kinds of services. He should perform some sort of work for Ka and that work should be with love. If a devotee is not intelligent enough to make progress on the path of self realization, but is sincere and devoted to the activities of devotional service, the Lord gives him a chance to make progress and ultimately a King to him. No discount. This is verse 10, the utterance of the Absolute. Those who are always engaged in my service which is lovingly offered, these persons are going back to Ka. How is that? Is that Krishna is giving them intelligence, so how they can do better that's why we call it Buddhi Yoga. This is the Yoga of intelligence. We are advised to Yuddha Vairagra. We have to engage all our retire. They think, okay, when I retire, then I'll serve Krishna. But then when they retire, then they give all their their funds away to this charity, to their family, to their relatives, to everyone. Then they come to Krishna with the empty hand. He said, why should they do it like that? This is Rupa Goswami. He was a finance minister for the Emperor Hussein Shah. When surplus I have of money hand, he used 25% for his family members. 50% he used for Ka, 25% he cared for emergencies. Some emergency can always happen. So this is a badir format. Of course it will depend on one's personal wealth and what the needs are. But as a formula that was recommended by Shiva Prabhupada, we follow the good examples of the Acharyas. So Ruba and Sanatan, they were rehashed as the before Prabhupada was against him. But he took final breath when he was 56, Sannyas when he was 59. Then for so many years, 13 years and total, he was the preaching in India. And then he went to the west in 1979. Jiguar actually went in 1965 when he was seven years old. So we don't recommend that everybody has things. Even though we become 59 or 60, that's very few. Like we have only hundred Sannyasis in Iskam. We have a million devotees. What we're trying to replace is that Samyasa Yoga that we use what we have for Ka, that's a real Sannyasi. So even if the Sannyasi has very little, but if he doesn't use it for Ka, he's not a real Samyasi. Instead of a Grihasta, raises their children for Ka, loses their house for Ka, does their work for Ka. They bring everything as an offering to Ka. Then they are really a Samyasi. Even though there are many Devi Hasta in the sense that they're dedicating, surrendering everything to Ka. If Krishna is in the center, the Bhakti Hindu Thakur, he's saying, make a Krishna conscious family. There's no problem with that. You must do that. Make Krishna conscious family. But whether you should give up Charo Anachara, give up the bad habits. There are certain bad habits that are obstacles in our Ka consciousness. Those things we do a family. If we can put the Ka in the center of the family, that's a strong position to serve Krishna. Priya Raja was a young Brahmachari. He was the son of Manu. So he's superhuman. He's a celestial being. Celestial human. His Manu is the source of the humans. In fact, according to some authorities, Manu brought mankind to Earth. So we're trying to find out the evolutionary origins of mankind. When there's always the mysterious. They can't find because they won't find. Partly because we're not evolved. Another part is because we came here from another planet. Somehow Manu brought us here. Saiyan was favored and Pirvatta he decided to remain Brahmacharya. But then there's a big problem. Because the dynasty of the Manus Manus have an important role in the universe. All the human beings are guided, influenced by the powers of Manu Swayam Bhubha Manu wanted his son to get married. Like most parents want their children to get married. But they and be the next king. Brahmachari was afraid you may get entangled in material life and I won't get back to ka. I won't get emotion. So then Brahma came and preached to Priya Rata. So he was a pretty important person in Brahmasamungura. And talk to him and explained to him that if you have a proper Krishna conscious wife and together you're serving Ka then the Grihasta Ashram can be like a citadel, like a fortress. What they call that in Hindi like lao kila kila straightforward. You have a fortress to fight against Maya. But it's important that both husband and wife they should be gankas. Some behalf asked what did you know Thakur? What was the most important thing for Ibihasta? He said for Agriastra the most important thing is that the spouse, the person you're married to should be God conscious. Because Bihasa light means it's a teamwork. Husband, wife, team effort. So both are in the spiritual line together. That is very strong. They can be in the material world, do their material things. But with Krishna in the center they can withstand being very strong spiritually also those things have to be done. That's why Bhuti Yoga they're done under the guidance of the Guru. How you do it in a spiritualized way. I always like to see the whole family together. And we try to encourage all the family members to be Krishna counsel. Just some water. There's Bheeshma Deva. He was lifelong Brahmacharya was considered to be very great austerity that he did a Janma Brahmacharya from his very birth. But that's not recommended in botanical as standard. It wasn't even packed very common in Bhagavad. Guru ka samshaya koro chaga vanacha. Give up the bad habits, make a Ka conscious habit. Nowadays in the modern world, families are on the downside. People think we're against him. We're not Krishna consciousness. It's for families. We are a pro family from this modern world. I mean, we're seeing as the Kaliuga progressing. Before in India there was no divorce. Now the spiral becomes increasing. And in the west, in the UK I think they said of all the only 50% are married. Some like 30, 40% are. Or maybe even 50% are single parent families. Maybe they were married, but they divorced or they mother without any husband or something. Somehow they're like called single parent family. Mean only one person or one person would 50% disaster. Middle East India is like 99, maybe still 99, 98% is all families. We heard in Singapore they have their city state, but they made that. They found that if you encourage people to have their own flat, somehow politically it's really good for the government. Everybody owns them flat. I don't know. Owning the flat is the same as a family owner. Mostly governments nowadays you're hearing them talk about the problem that no families, families are going down. That the nation can only build us even when we have families. Even the nations they understand this nowadays. But they don't have a process. Because families are a responsibility. And people are lazy. They don't like to take responsibility. So in the west that they're given the option. Some people, they don't take that response to why should I get married? This is the kind of situation. So Prabhupada, when he went to the west he found many couples, boyfriends, girlfriends like that. So he started marriage. It was a big revolution. Swamiji, you may think of him India it's not that everybody gets married, but there they don't get they weren't married. He got married. He started sit down before the Yajna, take your vows, accept to be married. The west revolutionary thing. Of course, there are many people get married in the west. But not the young people he was preaching to. They were master married many of them. Somewhere, somewhere many of them. So he was encouraging rather than using the household is irresponsible. So if somebody is the household, then they had to think how to use my things for Krishna. That's Bori Yoga. You have more freedom as a householder. So that freedom, you can misuse that freedom or you can utilize the freedom. Like somebody living in an ashram is a Brahmachari. Then there is a temple head who's controlling their activities. They don't have so much freedom like in the military. They sacrifice that freedom to follow the discipline. So one knows the Brahmacharis. Some of them get married. Then they are suddenly free with their family, with their money. So it's lots of temptations. You can do all kinds of nonsense if you want. Nobody's there looking over your shoulder. So actually the agriha, the griastas, who are following everything things strictly, I think they're more mature. They're very mature people. They're doing it not because someone is pushing on them. But because they've decided with their own intelligence. This is better for my family, this is better for me. And I should chant Hare Krishna. And I should offer my food to Krishna. And I should take Krishna for shaman. Sometimes people, somebody will about talk. Telling me the way one wife was telling me that my husband was. This was in maturities. Here in the gulf. That husband was complaining. She's more active than he is. An obliya. You're too strict. That's what's wrong with the Hare Krishna. They're too strict, too conservative. See, we have so much freedom. But we just don't want to do anything. That's not for ka. I'm on the airplane. I'm flying. Here they give you the menu. The first four items on the menu. I can't even speak in this assembly. But I don't eat anything. I order a fresh fruit plate. Here's my fresh fruit. Because I don't want anything that's cooked by Nandavoti. I wish for one day I can suffer. Wait till I come here to get my. If I'm working outside some business chir bucket. You may have to use bridges from a hotel or something. That's unavoidable. But I am flying from one place to the next. So one day I'm looking one day I'll bring prasad with me or I'll take fruit. But the options are there. So nobody is watching Oblivra. Krishna is watching. He's in my heart. There's a saying, but don't drink water under water on a fast day. You understand that? Don't drink water underwater. How you can drink water underwater? You see, sometimes there's a fast day, like some vikariasi, some nirjala upavas. But some people go to the holy river. They may go to the Ganga when they're fasting. No water. Water, no. When they go under that water for bathing then normally they should drink water underwater and then come up your job. They can look very austere because no one can see whether you're drinking water when you're under the water. But who are you fasting for? We're fasting for Krishna. He knows what we're doing so we can't fool Krishna. So it's not that we're so strict in that sense. We're just sincere that we want to do what's pleasing to Krishna. He says here sat at ham means always Prithi Purgam who is always worshipping me with loving devotion. They are given the intelligence by being able to come to me. So the Siddhis devotees, they always want to do the things very soon. That doesn't mean okay, like when you are 50, like today. One boy told me when you get 50, then you do, then you should do. They said no, it's not like that. From 5 years of age the children should. The earlier we can get in the habit of spiritual life, the better. It's very hard for old people to suddenly change old people. That's when you retire. Your daughters are married, your sons are settled. Then your husband and wife, they can go to holy places or they can. Some people come from the Gulf. They have a house and Mayapur or some holy place and they do seva. Some go back to their village and they make a temple. I was just inaugurating one temple, one Yasta devotee, he had his own factory where he makes the spokes for the umbrellas. And he had a big maybe over 25 to 50% of the market share in eastern India. Rains a lot in East India. So everyone has umbrellas. So there's millions of umbrellas. And he makes the spokes for all the different manufacturers of umbrella. So with that money he built his dream was I want to have a Radhakrishna temple in my village. And he built a fabulous temple. I mean it's really a beautiful temple. The temple must be 70, 80ft high with a temple room medium size compounding. It's not like a big like Delhi or Vrindava. But his temple room, the Darshan area is probably bigger than the first Darshan area of our Vrindavan temple. It's white, it must be about small altar Radhakrishna and Lord Chaitanya. And it's about maybe 30 by 50ft, maybe 40 by 50, something like that. I mean I didn't mention the Fitting. There are over a thousand people. I don't know how many crores he lacks or how much he spent on it. But with his prophet, with a portion of his prophet, he just kept building up the temple and now he's 62. He's handed over the business to the children, but he finished the temple. So he went there to cut the ribbon. The Monterey start to puja. Nahiwan said, give that temple over to iskcon. You know, some people when they build their house in India, when they're working in Gulf and now after becoming devotee, they plan out sort of double garage. They have a kirtan, nearly a kirk or they make a two story downstairs for the. For the. Some program, some big living room or something. Either you keep it separate so the house's privacy is maintained. And they go back and do navahatta. Many. I would just think rather so many devotees are there, but not some devotees like Radha Brahman Das. He's done a lot of propaganda, a lot of teaching. Some when they go back to India, they get swallowed up. Not so much Buddha association. So we run a program whenever people go back that they have to stay in contact with the other devotees, establish namatas, get some support and help us to spread in India also. It's here there's a nice community of devotees. So it gives a lot of strength. Hello Sangha Shakti. When we come Yuga. We have more strength with the association of the devotees.
