2006 || Bhakti Tīrtha Swami Samādhi Inauguration || Śrī Māyāpur, India #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

Transcript of a devotional commemorative event held in Mayapur honoring His Holiness Bhakti Tirtha Swami. Multiple ISKCON leaders and devotees offer personal reminiscences, tributes, and practical spiritual guidance; the program includes eulogies, memories of preaching (notably in Eastern Europe and West Africa), and a short question-and-answer segment on devotional practices. The tone is reverent, reflective, and instructional.
Nama Devakti. He still remember Maharaj in his poor Vaasram. And he told us, I want you all to give him your blessings. He's taking some big risk for Krishna. He's going to preach in the communist countries to bring them the books. And we thought, what can we do to bless someone when Prabhupada is there? His blessings are worth unlimited. Our blessings are like figs. The Prophet said, no, you're all devotees, so you are blessings. Krishna will listen to your prayers throughout his life. Ascend Bhakti Tirukta Maharaj has always taken some risks for spreading Ka Conscious movement. Today when we heard his lecture spoken here in Mayapur like this Titi.
We.
Can remember how he would inspire everyone. And I was just remembering how Prabhupada said that the purpose of the GBC was to create unity and diversity in iskcon. And I was thinking how his personality was a symbol of university of unity and diversity. He was completely sold out Prabhupada soldier. And he would take these amazing opportunities to preach and all different kinds of environment. I think sometimes people didn't understand. But as was spoken by Deva Rita Maharaj, his heart was completely pure and his desire was to spread Prabhupada's message using all the opportunities he could. We should take inspiration from his.
Mood.
Of care for all the devotees. When I went to see Bhaktirta Maharaj and Gita Nagari, I was of course overwhelmed by the love that he showered upon me. But his love was for everyone. I asked him that you should stay with us some more time. Maybe Krishna can do some miracle. But he said, well, I think my time in this body is now up. Sometimes people can do more service after they leave. So he wanted that his legacy, his mission, his mood of care for devotees would carry on after him. Before, I was just thinking that he's maybe my best friend in Ka consciousness. Because a best friend is someone who will tell you the truth, will open his heart and share with you even if it's unpleasant. Sometimes when they tell you they care about your well being. On several occasions he would take the time to give me advice because sometimes I'm not also very well understood. And so I thought that he was a friend. But today when I was putting the flowers, I was also feeling he's a guru for me because he gave me so many instructions representing Srila Prabhupada. I feel very much the loss of his association, very much the need for more association with him. I'm trying to understand how all these pioneer preachers, these really dynamic earth groundbreaking preachers have been taken earlier by Srila Prabhupada. There's no doubt he's with Srila Prabhupada. So I have to take shelter again. Of his advice that he gave us this morning through prayer we can keep in contact with him. By prayer. He asked me to do three things. I don't know how I'm going to do these. But he said I had to go to a festival at Gitanagari. And he also told me that in Gitanagari the reason he was there was that there was a tirta. He wanted to show that Prabhupada Tirtas in the west are also holy places. They're places of pilgrimage. Everyone knows that Mayapur and Vrindavana holy places. But they should know that the places where Prabhupada visited and worshipped and did his service, they're also holy places. So he wanted me also to visit.
Sometime when they have their festival.
Then he asked me to visit West Africa after preaching. That's one place I haven't visited yet. And he also asked me to help his disciples anyway that they they want to create it. So I just hope that I can always be serving his lotus feet and remembering his wonderful qualities. Bhakti Tirtha Sami Maharajanki Bhakti Tirtha Sami Maharajanki Bhakti Tirtha Sami Maharaj.
Thank you very much Jayapathaka Maharaj. I know what a deep respect Srila Bhakti TRA Maharaj had for you. He always considered you to be a very senior godbrother and a very loyal follower of Srila Prabhupada. His Holiness Radhanath Maharaj has undoubtedly proved himself to be the most intimate friend of Bhakti Tu Maharaja. During Maharaj's last days, Radhanath Maharaj actually dropped everything and stayed with Bhakti Dutta Maharaj in Gita Nagari taking care of him for seven weeks. Unfortunately, Radhanath Maharaj could not be here today. But he sent his message and one of his very senior disciples, Radhakrishna Prabhu will read out that message.
Please.
It breaks my heart to not be with all of you today. Due to ill health. The doctors and devotees in Mumbai have lovingly forced me to take this time for needed medical treatment. On this very auspicious day, we have gathered together to offer a tribute of love and gratitude to a most dear associate of Srila Prabhupada, His Holiness Bhakti Devtha. Swami Maharaj Maharaj superbly personified the qualities of surrender and compassion. Rla Prabhupada personally acknowledged this by his praise, embrace and tears of gratitude. Behind the iron curtain, he fearlessly distributed thousands of Srila Prabhupada's books, excelling everyone's expectations. In the difficult and dangerous lands of Western Africa, he was honoured as a chief and miraculously expanded Lord Chaitanya's mission with temples, farm communities, media shows and thousands of devotees. In the usa, he established an institute that presents sophisticated programs bringing professionals and leaders of society to a level of unconditional surrender, something very few have even dared to attempt. Through his urban development programs, he gives shelter to the downtrodden and forgotten people of the ghettos. Maharaj bestowed personal spiritual guidance to world leaders and celebrities and is reaching the world through his books. His unique contributions are so diversified, creative and successful that I am unable to properly describe them. Above all else, Maharaj loves the Vaishnavas. He is friend of the fallen and gives hope to the hopeless. His sympathetic heart gives solace to the forgotten and misunderstood. To the gbc he is a dedicated soldier willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of ISKCON and a man of the heart with great wisdom. To the guru police, he is the cool Guru and to the worldwide movement, he is an ocean of inspiration through dynamic lectures, cutting edge seminars and transcendentally ecstatic chanting and dancing. To me he is a dearest Godbrother and friend whose separation breaks my heart unbearably. During those last eight weeks, he extended his heart to me with such humility and spiritual love that I am forever indebted. Immersed in the Leela of Vrindavan, we both felt to be living in Sri Caitanya Charitamata. That was his mercy on this fallen soul. During his final months, Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj put the greatest emphasis on communities wherein all devotees are encouraged by loving and caring Vaishnava relationships. Communities providing an atmosphere where we could all chant Hare Ka and be happy. Let us all strive with utmost sincerity to fulfill his dream. In summary, Maharaj had an amazing faith in Srila Prabhupada's mercy and wanted to share it with the world. On this sacred occasion of establishing His Holiness Bhakti Tirtha, Swami Maharaj Samadhi in Sri Mayapur Dham beside his divine grace AC Bhaktiveda and the Swami Prabhupada and his beloved disciples, His Holiness Gaurav Govinda Swami Maharaj His Holiness Tamal Krishna Go Swami Maharaj and His Holiness Sridhar Swami Maharaj Let us take a moment of silence to honor these great souls and pray that we may forever aspire to follow in their holy footprints. Thank you very much your servant Radhanath Swami.
Thank you very much Radhakrishna Premier. His Holiness Bhaktiketa Swami Maharaj His Holiness Radhanath Swami Maharaj Jagat Guru Srila Prabhupada Prabhupada Gi Dev Amrita Maharaj very kindly decided that today's GBC meeting will start half an hour later and so that we can continue with the glorification of His Holiness Bhakti Gita Swami Maharaj. Mother Malati is is one of our senior most God Sisters for whom His Holiness Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj had a lot of appreciation and respect. Madam Maluti also served with Bhakti Tuta Maharaj as a co GBC in New Vrindavan. So we request Madhu Maluti to offer our homage to rapidity.
It.
For my respectful, my humble and eternal obeisances to His Holiness Srila Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj, wonderful disciple Srila Prabhupada, wonderful friend to all of his Godbrothers and God Sisters, wonderful guide, mentor and spiritual master to his disciples and an exemplary example to anyone who ever met him outside of Ka consciousness who influenced and caused their hearts to take a favorable turn towards your own spiritual life and Rla Prabhupada's movement. I offer my humble obeisances to the assembly of Vaiavas, my Godbrothers and God Sisters. In particular. I was not actually expecting to come up here this morning. I was planning to come this evening. So in reality I haven't prepared.
But my own.
I will just speak personally that my own spiritual life was greatly influenced by the association and guidance that was offered to me by His Holiness after a leaveth absent from devotional service. He was among those who encouraged me and pulled me forward in my service to Srila Prabhupda. By words of wisdom, by example, he was always there and I never saw any meanness in him. I never saw any envy in him. I never saw any stinginess in him. He was always giving and giving to all of us. And I saw a heart that could actually in such a strong person be very easily touched and even easily hurt. When he sensed these same type of unfortunate qualities in others. Because he could see that these qualities, these qualities that are not vaiava qualities could easily hurt others, could hurt ourselves and hurt this movement. He was actually attacked by certain Godbrothers towards The end. It was a very painful experience for him and a very painful experience for those around him and for those of us who have guided and have taken his guidance and value to shelter. What was amazing was how he was hurt, but he was without any vindictiveness and he fully forgave such personalities. His example could lift a fallen battleship. I noticed over in the samadhi that on the little covering, the little cloth covering, it had some traditional Indian design and there was four hearts. And I thought this was a very appropriate shelter from the sun because Bhakti Tiritha Maharaj was all heart and his heart was given to Srila Prabhupda. And Rla Prabhupda took his heart and enlarged it and enlarged it and he just kept giving it to all of us. It was mentioned how he was non discriminatory and was always careful to see that. You might say he was a champion of the underdog. Many times within our movement, ladies are in an underdog position in the presence and service of Rla Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj. Just as when we were with Rla Prabhupada, that feeling was never evoked. We were pushed up and allowed to serve graciously and wonderfully by his kindness in extending all facility towards everyone, including the ladies. And as a result you can see the wonderful disciples that he has left behind, both men and women, but in the hearts of the ladies. We will be always grateful that he took up Prabhupada's mood in this regard and allowed us many avenues of service that were otherwise closed within our ISKCON corridors. Towards the end, of course, the end. The beginning. What's happening in all this? As mentioned, going on to serve with Rla Prabhupada in an even more intimate manner. But in coming to see him, it was such an extraordinary experience when his physical weakness was so apparent that he couldn't even lift his own hand until even pick up his beads. And yet when he would speak to us, the strength and purity of that enlarged heart just enveloped us. And we'd leave Gita Nagari feeling strangely elated. I say strangely because on the one hand we knew this may be the last minute, the last visit, this may be the last visit. And yet somehow or other, even in that deteriorated condition, he had the ability and capacity to lift us all up. So as he asked us today to raise our hands, as he asked us three years ago to raise our hands, we and take a vow to Srila Prabhupada. I hope we all can do that and help Rla Bhakti Terta Maharaj in lifting the bar of devotion in iskcon. Thank you very much Maharaj for allowing us to be in your association and to try to serve you.
Thank youk Mother Maluti. His Holiness Kavichandra Maharaj was not only an intimate friend of His Holiness Bhakti Gita Swami Maharaj, but he also serve together with Maharaj in West Africa as COGBC with. I request His Holiness Kavichandra Maharaj to speak.
Usually I have a lot to say, but. And usually my heart is very hard, but today somehow or other is cracking. When I went to see him last year in April, of course I've been following and talking to him every day quite a bit. But when I saw his face I thought, oh, he's fine. The big smile was there, but then you could see that physically the body was quite deteriorated. But he was in a very powerful preaching mood, loving like he always was. So everybody's covering everything, but we didn't find any defects. Some, of course, like we said, they couldn't understand what he was doing. I think, of course most people in the world can see very clearly the dynamic effect of his preaching. When I was just recently in Nigeria, we went to the airport and as usual there was no prior arrangements made. So they said, the flight is full, you can't go. Then there was one lady there and she just looked at me and then she started shouting at the ticket agents. And then she said, okay, you're on standby now, let's go right away. And then she turned around again and shouted at him more and said, you have a fixed seat. And then she took me right out to the, you have to, you know, at the plane and they told me to get in the back of the line. She said, go to the front. She had a big fight again, put me on the plane first. And then she, you know, I tried to ask her like she didn't really know much, but she said, I saw that black American guy on television. I know this is really important, I hope we can follow up on her. But that was quite some long time since he'd been on television. He used to be a quite television star but, but the Christians got so worried that they bought up all the television time at very high prices. We couldn't afford it anymore. Previously he was quite famous there, but like everybody will say the same thing.
And.
One thing, like he was very dedicated to Srila Prabhupada. And when I first met him at that time of Course the library party was going, but they weren't getting so much publicity. We were getting all the publicity distributing books in the airports. He was following me around and watching me distribute. And he was taking notes really. I'd never seen anything like it. So intensely he was watching and listening to what we were doing. But then later I got got with him on the first party distributing Sriman Bhagavatam sets. And we would go around and in the car he would just always just be a nectar devotion or something and asking all kinds of questions. He was studying very, very intensely and kept the discussions always on. We didn't talk about other things except when we went in to speak to people. Then he was very, very expert to entertain them and lift them up, enliven them and make them feel very important like he did with all of us. And he tolerated me and always tried to encourage me. Which is further proof of his compassion. And the energy that he had was phenomenal. In those early days we couldn't find him sleeping very much. Nobody knew how many rounds he was chanting. He was always chanting from early morning, studying very thoroughly. He read many other books in order to preach to many, many varieties of people.
But.
He just utilized that to authenticate his presentation. He told us that it was a tough Usha to have to, you know, go through these academic or other books. But he just wove that, took out what was essential and presented ka consciousness so that all kinds of people could catch it. So we see amongst his disciples.
Very.
Educated people, very high class people and very, very dedicated. So the separation. I feel great vacuum in my life. He was a great friend. But you see, he was a great friend to everybody that knew him. He made everybody feel like they were his best friend. We have a great legacy in the class this morning. I hope everybody remembers everything he was saying. Especially in Africa. I try to say the same things, but I usually get disturbed and frustrated and angry. But he's on a very transcendental plane. I ask him for a special message for the Africans. But this is for all of us. Probably it was especially for me. But first thing he said is don't quarrel. That's for all of us. We all experience. Like my father, I remember used to be so disturbed when I would quarrel with my brother. And I couldn't understand why. I can't understand what a fool my brother is. But now that I have so many children, I see it's very painful to see that devotees quarreling. So that was for all of us. And worshiped the deities very Nicely, like he was saying this morning, and very beautifully. And he said, preserve what we have and distribute Rla Prabhupada's books. And that was when he was quite weak. But he was very smiling, happy. So he we know the Vaishnava has not left. He's still there, but we feel the separation. But he did manage to leave so many books behind. And I was fortunate to get the recordings of all those lectures from the last six months or so. And they're so wonderful. I hope everybody hears them again and again because we all have to face this fact that we're going to leave these bodies. The last book that came out was called Die before you die very, very beautifully. He utilized his fame and his Krishna. Let him be on center stage right up to the last minute because he was giving, you know, so much instruction, most essential instruction, how to really let go of everything except Krishna.
And.
He gave us, you know, so much left behind and so many disciples. Great example. So I'll let others speak. I can't imitate how he said. ISKCON Founder Chargesi Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada Ki Ja it doesn't come off so good when I say it. But when he said it, really, really wonderful. He was so dedicated to Rla Prabhupada. I'm so grateful and I hope everybody can get a Radhana Swami five hour Sunday feast memorial speech and listened very closely a few times to that one. And that was really nobody left. Nobody left for prasadam or anything. Everybody stayed and that's available all around. I have it if you. I can make CDs for you if anybody, whatever you can buy it from. We'll send a donation to Chopati.
His Holiness Bir Krishna Maharaj served with Srila Bhaktatita Maharaj together. And I have seen what a deep appreciation B. Krishna Maharaj always displayed about His Holiness Bhakti Tita Maharaj. I'll request.
Krishna Prastaya Vudle Simati Bhaktivedanta Swamini Tinamani Namaste Saraswati Devi Koravani Picharni Nivarshesha Srinivari Basyatharani Srila Bhaktirtha Swami Ki Jai So I was extremely fortunate to have had Srilabhakta Tiratha Swami's association from the very beginning of my Krishna consciousness. Right the second year after I joined the Krishna Consciousness Movement in 1972, I was posted with him. Both of us were traveling with an Iskcon Sannyasi who is still A sannyasi in our Krishna conscious movement. And in those days, sannyasis were, let us say, a little heavier than they are nowadays. Now they're older, wiser, kindler, kinder and gentler. But in those days they were tougher and you get the idea. So we were two Brahmacharis. And the sannyasi chastised us for everything we did and didn't do. And especially he was wanted to chastise Shilabak to cheer the Mars. Because he was the president of the student body in Princeton before. So the sannyasi felt it was his duty just to just like destroy all sorts of, you know, designations and things like that. Of course, Srila Bhakta Tirtha Maharaj had no material designations. Even from the very beginning. I can say that he was completely free of false ego. But as Malati Prabhu has stated, he was also very sensitive. So when we were chastised by this sannyasi, he started to cry. I also cried. So we would put our arms around each other, embrace and cry together. So this was, I think, the first real bonding experience I've had in the Ka Consciousness movement. Crying for Krishna or crying together. Of course, we were told by the sannyasi, this is good for your false ego to cry like that. Even if I'm chastising you for something you didn't do. That's all right. It's Krishna's will. You should be chastised because you're here in the material world and have a material body.
That was the mood.
So anyway, so that. So we spent quite a few months with Srila Bhakta Chirdhamaras crying together. And we developed. The reason I'm telling this is because it made us very close. When you go through a traumatic experience with someone, you become very close. So we became very, very close to him in many ways and actually inseparable. Through the years I've been thinking about him and visiting him. After some time, we were separated physically because he was sent on the library party. And you've heard about this library party from some other devotees. In this library party, he risked life and limb. And just to be a little specific about what went on, he was traveling in Eastern Europe, which at that time was an extremely dangerous place. If he was caught by the KGB or any of the other secret services, he could have been put into the prison. And in those prisons, sometimes people disappeared. They weren't heard from again. It wasn't just like your ordinary prison. So in order to evade capture and distribute RLA Prabhupada's books. He was literally living in trains in Eastern Europe, jumping from one train to another, from one university to another. And Rla Prabhupada was so pleased with his determination and fearlessness. As we know from the Gita, that's one of the primary qualities of a Sannyasi abaya, isn't it? First quality mentioned Abhaya Sattva, Samsuddhi Jnanayoga Vyabasthati, that he was so pleased with him that when he saw Rla Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj, he embraced Bhaktaturdha Maharaj. And he said to him, you have achieved perfection. Now, I don't know or have no recollection of Srila Prabhupada saying that to anyone else. And not only did he receive this praise and appreciation from Srila Prabhupada, but he always maintained his abject humility, always considered himself to be a servant of the other Vaishnavas. I remember here in Mayapur, in the prasadam pavilion, after he had received this acclaim from Srila Prabhupada, that he was humbly serving the Vaiavas Prasada. I was sitting there because I just wanted to eat. I had no conception of serving Vaishnavas. And he was serving. He waited until everyone finished, until he ate prasadam. And I was saying to him, maharaj, sit down, sit down, sit down. Because I was embarrassed, you know, here was someone more, in other words, showing more Vaishnav qualities. And I wanted to show more Vaishnav qualities because I was proud of my Vaishnav, so called Vaishnava qualities. But he determinedly kept serving every single Vaishnava here in the Dhamma, some of the older devotees here, I'm sure you remember that. And he was so renounced from eating and sleeping. That was already mentioned. I'll give one experience I had with him. One time I visited his ashram in Washington D.C. that's when he had his Institute for Applied Spiritual Technology. And I was staying in his room. So I stayed with him in his room. And I didn't see him sleep. And of course that was very worrisome, bothersome for me because I wanted to sleep. So I said, maharaj, do you have a closet I can go into? So finally I locked myself in his closet so I could get some rest. But I didn't see him sleep one wink. He was up all night eating once a day, just simply amazing me with his determination. And so I was thinking when I was visiting him for the last time. I was thinking that this is going to be a very, very sad occasion. We're both going to be crying because this is going to be the last time we'll see each other in this lifetime. And I approached him with that particular mentality. So I went to see him. We were discussing Ka consciousness, and as we were talking about Ka consciousness, we both came to the realization that at least he is on Srila Prabhupada's transcendental Radha Dhammadar party. Just like you've all heard about the Radha Dhammadar party that was there in the United States. And they used to let us. I don't want to use the word steal, but they used to encourage devotees to leave, not leave. They used to encourage devotees to travel with them. And the temple president sometimes would wake up the next morning and find all of his Brahmacharis gone. So I was thinking that Srila Prabhupada has such a traveling Radha Damodar party. And when he needs to go somewhere and preach, then he calls for his personal assistance. Whatever you're doing, you come and join me. So we may see externally that the devotee appears to have some disease or appears to have a car accident or something like that. But in actuality, Srila Prabhupada is calling these devotees to assist him somewhere else. Just like with Srila Tamal Krishna Maharaj, we experience this. And then one dream that Rla Bhakta Tirtha Maharaj had illustrates this point. This dream was that shortly before leaving this world, Rla Bhakta Tirtha Maharaj dreamt that Tamal Krishna Maharaj came to him. And he was taking his hand and says, come, it's time to come and rejoin Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada's party isn't that wonderful. It's time to come. Rla Prabhupada is calling you. So my understanding was at that meeting that of course I am not so dear to Srila Prabhupada. And I'm not sure I'd want to come if Rupha was calling me. I'm so attached to this body too. But somehow or other, Srila Prabhupada has given us eternal service at his lotus feet. So even though we apparently may be separated for some time, not only from Srila Prabhupada, but from each other, that separation is not real separation. It's apparent separation. And then soon we'll be serving together again. So when I Last said goodbye to Srila Bhakta Tirtha Bar. It wasn't a tearful goodbye. The goodbye was, see you later. I mean, that's quite unusual. See you later wasn't, you know, we're going to just be somewhere, you know, in a few years, whatever it is, serving Srila Prabhupada, maybe some other universe spiritual world, who knows? But eternal service to Srila Prabhupada. So when I was saying goodbye to him like that, I realized that my connection or keeping my association with Bhaktaturtha Maharaj was dependent upon serving not only Rla Prabhupada, but serving my God brothers, especially Bhaktaturtha Maharaj at that juncture. So I asked Bhakti Tiratha Maharaj, I want to keep your association, so please give me some service to do in your separation so I can keep or stay with you. And Dr. Jythamara said something that I didn't want to hear at that point. He said, please become GBC of Croatia and Bosnia. And that was the last thing I wanted to hear because I already have enough areas of responsibility. And I said, mars, can you ask me something else? You know, something easy like a donation or something. And he said, think about it. And so I left him thinking about it. And I thought about it. I thought about it. And those of you come from a particular type of family heritage know about guilt. Some of you may know about that. So I felt guiltier and guiltier and guiltier every day. So then I contacted Maharaj after about three days of feeling guilty. And I said to Maharaj, I give in, I give up. I will do what you ask. And Maharaj, Srila Bhaktira Maharaj wrote back to me. He said, thank you very much for going along with the last request of a dying man. So he understood also how to apply guilt. So somehow or other we hope to be serving him and serving our God. Brothers, if we simply think that serving Rla Prabhupada is enough, then we are not quite on the right track. Serving Srila Prabhupada to please Rla Prabhupada the most, we need to serve his disciples, his grand disciples, and his Ka consciousness movement. And this keeps all of us together. As Prabhupada said, we have an ISKCON in the spiritual world and everyone gets to go except for who?
Mr. Nair.
Mr. Nair, that's right. And maybe by Prabhupada's mercy, he will one day get to go. So we have to remember this Is another thing I discussed with Srila Bhakta Truth Mars and then I'll end is that we're all meant to be together forever. So we better learn to get along with each other now. Shila Bhakta Cherry of the Mars told me this because this is going to be the group you're with forever and ever and ever and ever.
Hare Krishna. Although the GBC meeting has been postponed by half an hour and it's supposed to start at 10:30 but we are already 10 past 10 and no one actually has taken breakfast as yet. The GBC members have to take their breakfast and attend the meeting at 10:30. So although I do not want to and I would like to continue with this program but I have to adjourn it for the time being and the program will resume again at 4:30. And all the GBC members have been requested to come. Yeah, the GBC members can come after the. After the GBC meeting. Yeah, okay. Madhubajalila just corrected me. The program will continue till 11:30 and only the GBC members are expected to leave because they have to go take their breakfast and attend the meeting. Thank you very very much.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada. This is what I want to serve. Krishna, what is all this nonsense the mind is saying I should do? I know better than that. But I don't have the time now to deal with each and every stupid thought that's coming. Just give me that strength Krishna. Sometimes you get and then the mind sees. Okay, I'm not getting anywhere. And you gradually train the mind up so the mind will give you good thoughts. Thoughts which are useful for your spiritual life.
Sri Krishna Maharaj Bharat said that if somebody is sleeping we can wake him up. But if somebody is pretending to sleep it's very difficult to wake him up. So I see that devotees when they chant they feel their inability to concentrate and then they can they try their.
Best when they are asking the question Filmer video man one is asking question face the video to him.
So they are realizing that. So they try their best. They read from certain sections how to improve chanting and all. But I mean I feel my condition where I don't like I feel such a big illusion. I feel my chanting is all right so I don't have to work on it. But whole day I feel my activity. I don't have any test for service or anything. Though devotees are very happily doing so.
How do you see? Just like you're getting the realization when we get false pride, we Cut ourselves off. The whole secret of devotional servant thing, whatever. We get into some kind of false ego. Then pretty soon we lose the thing. Krishna say, what is all this guy thinking? He's not in the right attitude. So he's cutting you off from the mercy to some extent. Then you see everyone else is happy and you're puffed up. But you're not happy. So that Krishna is teaching you why you should be. You should be. Or we don't want to be over proud. You know what if we get any mercy, it's only Guru and Krishna's mercy on us. What great qualification we have. We're just chanting some offensive chanting, a little bit clearing chanting. There's only Lord cheek on youn has mercy on us. So we want to avoid that getting proud. So that happens automatically. You're already getting the realization everyone else is happy. I'm not happy. So why are you being proud? You should always try to improve the proper attitude of devotional service. Whatever I am doing, I can do it better. Even if I am doing it alright. Even if it appears that I am doing it better than the next guy. It's not a competitive sport. It's not like who crosses over the hundred line first. Each person is purifying as they're practicing. So you may be at stage 97 and he may be at stage 66. But if he's going 66, 67, he'll be happy. And if you get stuck up on 97, you won't feel happy. You want to keep progressing. So we're always trying to improve whatever level we're at, we want to improve it. So we're always looking what is our own defect. We try to help others. And if we get bonus points if you help other people, if you're friendly to them, if you're kind to them, if you're encouraging to them, you get a special bonus point. But if you are cold to them, you're proud. Offensive you get negative, especially offensive you get negative point. And if you are just Utah sin, you're not going to gain anything from that. So one has to become very caring. Who is that devotee eventually. But our devotional service is a continuous process. So you become very sensitive in the future. If you do Ivan even a little bit something off the track, merely you feel cut some cut off from the energy of Ka, you will feel like cast out in the sea, adrift of the boat with no rudder, no sail, nothing. As soon as you connect with Krishna again, it's like wind back in your sail you're sailing along. We have to learn how to always stay in the right attitude of devotional surrender. As we do in visually. We have to do by following the instruction of the Guru, following the instructions of Shastra Sadhu. Shastra Guru class. This kirtan will be standing in a few minutes. I have to do a few things. I have to get ready to go for the procession. Tonight there is a procession. I think Elephant is still sick. Not sure, but we'll take out a procession with cart, with a rakam. So one or two questions. Then we answer.
Hare Krishna Maharaj, please accept my humble obeisances. How much is the importance of maintaining good, friendly relationship with other devotees? Even if we feel that this devotee misbehaved or teased or offended or hurt us.
Sometime in devotional service, you get this, Somebody misbehave with you. But if we hold some kind of rancor, some kind of bitterness, some kind of this feeling, resentment like they were glorifying today Bhakti Chetta Maharaj. It's his vyajpuja and this samadhi they made. Sometimes someone was criticizing him, but then he was affected by it. It hurt him that someone would do such a thing. But he didn't hold any hatred or anger or resentment against that person. You forgave him. When you are doing like this, that's your desire. Your motto must be good for this one senior devotee is different. You just forget it. So these are all exceptional qualities. Usually we may feel some resentment. Like human nature. The more you can have a higher quality. I had somebody. He was always getting on my case, making criticisms and things. But then it was his problem. I didn't have anything against him. I always tried to be friendly with him. So eventually things worked out. I saw this person had this nature. He was always critical of other people. And he had some spiritual problem. Also it was dangerous to be critical all the time about other people. Because then you can commit some Vaishnava apparatus. And then when you want the protection of Ka, you will lack it because of offenses. See, if somebody gets offensive, who are we to be offended? We think I am really fallen. If they want to mistreat me. Maybe they are neophyte or maybe I deserve it from some previous birthday. Somehow we just adjust different ways. Depends. Sometimes in the ashram. The ashram leaders see that one person is misbehaving with everybody disturbing them. And he has to step in and start to instruct that person different. Start to just think about the hypothetical. From our side. We should try to Behave as a sadhu. As a proper devotee. Sometimes by our kindness you can change the other person. They are in some difficulty. They are in some anxiety. And you ask them how you are doing. What's wrong? You don't look so happy today. Then they realize that I treat this person bad. I make fun. And this person is asking how I'm doing. They care about me. They may have changed their heart. Even Jaganna Madhya had changed their heart. Unfortunately she's not the superpower. One more question.
I feel a sort of reluctance in my mind. Mind revolts. Like it says that I don't want to get up early in the morning. Or I don't want to chant.
16.
Hours or 2 hours. And I don't want to attend Mangalathyas. Something like that. So why is this? Like many a times I feel. So why is this such a reluctance? Although I am convinced that whatever I am following is right. But then why such a reluctance? And how to remove this reluctance?
When you feel voice sleepy. So then it's influence of Tamas. But it's trying to drag us down. We should adjust. Maybe get to bed earlier. Not eat so heavy at night. Take light meals. I know that like a normal Indian habit is to eat quite heavy meal at night. Where like in the ashram.
We usually just.
Just take something very light. Puffed rice or something light. Not too heavy. And eat before sleeping. Two hours, one and a half hours. So that there's time to digest it. Mind may come up with these thoughts. Some of your senses are tired. So they are telling you let's sleep some more. And so the mind is communicating. But then usually sometimes there's a chance. Okay, get up from angularity. Chant your rounds. And then if you need take a little nap. 15 minute half hour before. Let's start off the day chanting night. Spiritually I do sleep through.
