20060212 || Bhagavad-gītā Class || Port Dickson, Malaysia #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

Recorded Bhagavad-gītā class by Jaya Pataka Swami (Port Dickson, Malaysia). The lecture teaches that sincere devotional service (bhakti) requires study of revealed scriptures, guidance from bona fide devotees and a spiritual master, and warns against superficial/imitative practices (artificial tears, showy displays, or skipping scriptural study). The speaker gives anecdotes (e.g., a Guyanese welder converted by reading the Gītā), cites scriptures and teachers (Lord Chaitanya, Śrīla Prabhupāda, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī), and contrasts genuine devotion with empiric philosophers (mayavādīs) and sahajiyās. Emphasis: hearing/chanting (śravaṇa/kīrtana), conclusive knowledge (siddhānta), and association of pure devotees as means to real devotional transformation.
Sam Ram. Ram. It's Ra Sam. Ram. Ram. Ram Sam. Of such conclusions considering them controversial for such discussions strengthen the mind. Thus one mind becomes attached to Sri Krishna Siddhanta. Conclusion considering Chitte in the mind Nakoru do not be Allah lazy Malas Alas and Malas the mind. The mind so don't be alas. We're Malas when it comes to discussing the conclusions of the scriptures because it makes our mind fixed, strengthened and makes it firmly attached to Lord Sri Vishnabhagavan. He died. We have here it living in Mayapur for some years now. Has come here for participating in the festival. He is now 89 years young. He's our Reiki master also. Up to a couple years ago he was practicing yoga. He's still practicing practice yoga. Let's give him a big Haribo welcome. Report by Srila Prabhupada There are many students who inspire reading the Bhagavad Gita, misunderstand Ka because of imperfect knowledge and conclusion and conclude him to be an ordinary historical personality. This one must not do. One should not should be particularly careful to understand the truth about Ka. If because of laziness malasar one does not come to know Ka conclusively, one will be misguided about the movement of devotion like those who declare themselves advanced devotees and imitate the transcendental symptoms sometimes observed in liberated souls. Although the use of thoughts and arguments is the most suitable process for inducing an uninitiated person to become a devotee, neophytes in devotional service must always learntly understand Ka through the vision of the revealed scriptures, the bona fide devotees and the spiritual master. How should we understand Vishnu? You just heard it. One of the things is to the newspapers, right? Through the Shastas. Not the newspapers, but insights Revealed scriptures Also through the bona fide devotees. Also through spiritual master. We may have a surprise test after this class. See if you learn these things. Don't be surprised. Unless one hears about Sri Krishna from such authorities, one cannot make advancement in devotion to Sri Ka. The Revealed Arguments the revealed scriptures mention nine means of attaining devotional service and of the first and the foremost is hearing from the authority. The seed of devotion cannot sprout unless watered by the process of hearing and chanting. One should submissively receive the transcendental message from spiritually advanced sources and chant the very same message for one's own benefit as well as the benefit of one's audience. When Brahma describe the situation of pure devotion, of pure devotees freed from the culture of empiric philosophy and fruitive action. He recommended the process of hearing from persons who are on the path of devotion. Following in the footsteps of such liberated souls who are able to vibrate the transcendental sound on the head can lead one to the highest states who are able to vibrate real transcend of sound can lead one to the highest stage of devotion and thus one can become a Mahabhgavat faith pure devotee from the teachings of Lord Chaitanya Mahapra Sanatana Goswami Madhya 2265 we learn Shastrayukte Sunipana understand it's very simple Bengali Shastra Shastra means scripture Shastra Yukti Sunipunam expert follows the scripture Pritha Shraddha very firm faith jar who else Uttamadhikari topmost devotee St. Karayi Samsar he can deliver the universe Very simple. This Bengali is 90 60% Sanskrit with simple grammar translation. A person who is expert understanding the conclusion of the revealed scripture and who fully surrenders to the cause of the Lord is actually able to deliver others from the clutches of material existence. Verse 3 advises that to make real rapid to make rapid advancement in the cult of devotional service, one should be very active with and should persevere in executing the duties specified in the revealed scriptures and confirmed by the spiritual masters. Accepting the path of liberated souls and the association of pure devotees enriches such activities. Imitation devotees who wish to advertise themselves as elevated Vaishnavas and who therefore imitate the Pileas Acharyas but do not follow them in principle are condemned in the words of Srimad Bhagavatam 2324 as stone hearted Srivishwanath Chakravarti Thakur has commented on their stone hardened condition as follows. Sara Hirayataya Nindaisha those who shed tears by practice but whose hearts have not changed are to be known as stone hearted devotees of the lowest grade. Their imitation crying induced by artificial practice is always condemned. The desired change of heart referred to above is visible in the reluctance to do anything not continual to devotional way. To create such a change of heart, conclusive discussions about Sri Krishna and his potencies is absolutely necessary. False devotees may think that simply shedding tears will lead one to the transcendental plane even if one has not had a factual change in heart. But such a practice is useless if there is no transcendental realization. False devotees lacking the conclusions of transcendental knowledge think that artificially shedding tears will deliver them. Similarly, other false devotees think that studying books of the Previous cryas is unadvisable like studying dry empirical philosophy. Bhatshila Jiva Goswami, following the pra of previous Acharyas has inculcated the conclusion of the scriptures in the six pieces called the Shata Shantarva. False devotees who have very little knowledge of such conclusions fail to achieve pure devotion for want of real zeal in accepting the favorable directions for devotees. For one of zeal in accepting the favorable directions for devotional service given by self realized devotees. Such false devotees are like impersonalists who also consider devotional service no better than ordinary foitive activities. Water. Anyone knows how long we go? Time right now is about 9:30. It's 9:35. He said finish it at 9:15. That means tomorrow morning. A lot of good instructions are given in this verse. One instruction is that we should not be Malasa Malas when it comes to studying the conclusion of the scripture. Some people think that this chanting is okay. Why should we read and study when we had our Ishtagosthi? Some people said when they read they fall asleep. Hard work. So some may say no need of reading. We'll just go pleading Krishna, give us mercy. But here Lord Chaitanya is teaching us that if we are not malas with studying the scriptures, we're going to get. We're going to get a very strong belief. Sometimes people don't know the Shastra and they get bewildered. Someone challenges them. Why do you worship Ka? All the gods are the same. So why you are worshipping Krishna so much? Even if they don't know the answer. In the Bhagavad Gita and all the Veda, even in the ring Veda it says his supreme original cause of all causes, Manameshwar Bhagawan. I was in Calcutta and someone raised this point that there are certain organizations that say whatever way you take, it's all the same Jato speculation. It can go some new way, no problem. No matter which way you drive, whether you go to south, east, west, north, you're always going to end up in kiosk. Does it work like that? If you go south you go to jb. If you go to the east, you go to Serapan and Bajau. If you go to the west, you be in the souk, the Malacca streets. And if you go north then you can get to typing Alostein, many other places to the north Ipoh. If you go south you can reach the same place. What do you think? Not like that. Krishna says and I quoted from Bhagavad Gita many verses are there. Krishna s Devay, Ajahn, Devayanti. You worship the Devas. You go to the planet of the Devas. Madhya ji Mama, that's another verse. If you worship me, you come to me. Krishna says so these are the conclusions of scripture. There also there's several verses. If you worship the ghost, you go to the ghost. You worship the Devas, you go to the devas, worship me, come to me. Two, three verses are there. He says, mama, Come Sadhguru. Surrender unto me. So some people in Calcutta don't like this. They say that their guru says something else. But I said, well, we have to follow the Shastra. Don't mean any offense to your Guru. But the point is that shastra is the most important thing. Shastra is the basis. If you don't know the conclusion that people say anything and you. Okay, hello. Go on. That's not like that. So otherwise even Lord Shiva, he was asked by poverty, what's the best worship? And he said that of all the types of worship. Worship of Vishnu is Param, best supreme. With one exception, my dear Goddess. That is worshipping those who are connected to him. Todiya, the holy name. The holy Dham, the Shaktis, Ranarani, the devotees. Pure devotees. Mahabhgavatas. When we respect people because they are connected to him, because they are dear to Him. Then the Lord appreciates them even more so. But if you think all are the same. That it's not to be animal. It's not proper. One of my disciples comes from Guyana, near Trinidad. The Guyana. British Guyana. And he got a Bhagavad Gita during the Gita Jayanti month. At times that he was not devotees. And in the Caribbean they have favorite beverage which I should have mentioned. It's not according to our rules. It's made from fermented sugar cane. It's called rum. So he was taking that. He was working in Canada as an immigrant. He was a skilled laborer, welder, master welder. He was getting $50 an hour. Lot of money compared to what you get in Guyana. So he was having his own house, car, everything. He was thinking that I'm very top of the world now. And he came out from the bar and he met one devotee, Canadian devotee with Bhagavad Gitas. Offered him, please take this Bhagavad Gita. No, no. I have in my house. My grandfather Reem said. And he didn't. He went on, went to another place. Somehow when he came out of there, he was more lubricated again, he happened to meet that same devotee. Sir, you are a very distinguished gentleman. I want to give you this Bhagavad Gita as a special December gift, holiday season. Whatever you want, you can give it. Just please, I'm begging you, take this Bhagwati. He thought, just think, I'm an immigrant to this country and one of the local Canadians is begging for me. I am such an important man. Okay, I'll tell you. Gave him 10 bucks. Then he put in his briefcase and went home. Next day he woke up. Maybe it was not December, I don't know. But sometime later, he looked and he found this book. And he was reading. And he said, my goodness. Bhagavad Gita says that Krishna is God. Our founders in Guyana. Guyana, they don't know who is God. They always say, you know everyone. This one, that one. Some bathing. But here it's so clear. Vishta Bhagawan, Pishta, Bhagavan Pishta, Bhagawan Fishta Bahama. So then he decided, I'll go to the tent. Looked in my back at the list of all the temples in the back of Bhagavad Gita where you described temples. And then he found that there was a temple in Toronto. Went there and then he. It was a big festival day. Maybe like Narsinga. Not Narsinga. It was still winter. It was Nithyananda Chaodesi January or something like that. There was everyone, big feast, chanting, dancing, got right in the kirtan, took prasadam, helped serve. He was won over, became devotee. Later he took initiation from me. He told me he studied Bhagavad Gita again and again. When he met the pandits from Guyana, he would point out the Bhagavad Gita. I said, see here. Chapter 7, verse 14. And read it out. Chapter 9, verse 34, whatever. And then, you know, read out the verses. They were like he was pitching so heavy with the Siddhanta. With the conclusion, he convinced many people to become devotees. Even convinced the pandits. So this is what we have to know the scripture inside and out. Prabhupada said we should know the conclusions. So he became devotee despite getting the Bhagavad Gita in the winter. So for Gita Jayanti Ma, this is a good opportunity. Help your friends. Let them have the Bhagavad Gita. Ten more minutes. Here. One thing was that here it talks about. Sometimes people put on a show, crying in the time of Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasoti Thakur. There was one Ramdas Baba. He was so expert, he could make the water squirt out from his eyes. So people thought he must be the greatest devotee. Anyone who can squirt tears is a great devotee. We've been crying a lot. Of course, I never saw. That was before my time. But we heard he was a very good crier. Once Chutananda told me that he went to see this one person and he was crying so much on the stage. Later when he went to see him behind the stage, he was pulling chilies out from his nose. If you put chili in your nose, you'll cry. At least it wasn't onions. This kind of onions also make you cry. So this kind of artificial crying to show off to people. This is not going to give fish the pain. We want these feelings to come naturally. That comes by practicing devotional service, by reading the scripture, by chanting Hare Krishna, Krishna. After all, they sing and dance not because someone's putting a chili but because they like it. Because they're inspired by the holy names. This is special mercy. That's what's so special about followers of Chaitanya Mahabhar. True followers. They really get the mercy of the Lord. So that we want all of you to get this mercy, but don't take it. Part of it is to know that scripture. Otherwise you may get confusion. You get some different wrong ideas and then you won't get that same feeling of bliss. So these people who put the chilies in their nose and put the folks crying, they are hard hearted. They actually don't know the Siddhanta. They're just trying to win followers. So because this was so popular, this acting business, a good actor, they teach you how to cry. Think of when your mother. What's the thing most sad in your life? Your mother passed away or your pet dog was run over by a car or whatever. And then when you think of that, tears will come. But that's not true. You're disremembering your dog. You want to remember Krishna and feel like that. That comes to pass. We go out chanting and naturally we started to feel more and more attached to ka. The devotees sing and dance. I wanted to thank you all today. I couldn't see the men, but the ladies. I was in the back there having Darshan. They were chanting, dancing. Very nice. The men's shirts are all wet from sweat. They were also dancing. So this is sometimes some pandits, they show up a few socas. But they don't actually know the Factual conclusion. And so by practicing they don't have an actual change of heart. So there are many people who wrote commentation of the Bhagavad Gita. But it was missed the point. Missed the point. In Krishna's Bhagavan as the Lord Chaitanya, he said when he met that illiterate Brahmin in South India. Was crying when he was reading the Bhagavad Gita and children are making fun of him. And he asks, why are you crying? Why did children making fun of you? And he said, well, I don't know how to speak Sanskrit properly. So I don't pronounce it properly. So they are making fun. Now why you are crying? I'm crying because when I think how Krishna is Bhagavan. He's Lord of all the universes, he's supreme, powerful. But he's driving the chariot for his devotee, his part of Saraty. Then thinking how wonderful he is, how great that is. Then Lord Chaitanya picked him up and embraced him and said, you are the real Pandit of the Bhagavad Gita. So what understanding Gita is means we understand how wonderful Krishna is to come down and speak about what he does for all of us. How Lord Chaitanya so mercifully came as a devotee to teach us how to love Krishna. So how many of you want to have love for Krishna? No shortcuts is cut. Just follow Prabhupada's teachings. If you're trying to put the chili up your nose or something. Think I'll get love of Godhead quicker. You just get a sore nose. So many stories about bogus yogi. We want that love to come in our heart to rise just like the rising sun. Naturally. So we have two kinds. It's called two sides of the store of the coin. One side are the empiric philosophers, the mental speculators who say that we should all become God. We all are God. We just have to remember it. The Mayavadis. On the other side of the coin is the Sahajiyas who said we don't have to go through the Sadhana. We don't have to chair Hare Krishna. We just have to imagine that we're pure devotees. And it's good enough so that two extremes we're in the middle. We practice Ka consciousness. We chant our Hare Ka. We awaken our natural love for Ka. We give people Ka consciousness. We read their Shastras, we study their scriptures. Chain Hare Krishna worship Krishna study Krishna's teachings Gita And Bhagavad. I want to thank all of you for being here. For taking up Ka consciousness so seriously. Learn the Siddhanta very well. You can clear anyone's doubts. First you have to clear all your own doubts. When they are clear, then you can clear other people's doubts and establish Ka consciousness clearly in the minds and the hearts of the people. Because of all these showing, show business, Bhakti, Sudan Gisaras and I Thakur. He said that he didn't want his followers to show their voice. So. But one time he got too ecstatic when he was giving class. He couldn't control. So he ran out of the class. Didn't want to show it. Sometimes we are with Prabhupada. He was generally controlled. But one time he was giving a class in Mayapur about the disappearance day of Bhakti. Siddhartha serves in time. And how he was pleased so much by devotees who were helping him fulfill the desires of his spiritual master. And he started to cry. And then he was choked up. He couldn't move, couldn't stop. Finally he told everyone the channel life. It seemed this few times. But he will try to disperse it. Sometimes it would be so overwhelming. He put it the real thing. The real ecstasy. Wants them to show off. So thank you. You're very fortunate to be under Robert's shelter, Prabhupada following his movement. Are there any questions? Did the days go very fast? How many want to come next year to another national convention? No questions. Thank you all very much. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to subscribe to our channel.
