A recorded spiritual class (March 19, 2006, Tirupati) by Jaya Pataka Swami on Bhagavad-gītā 8.17 explaining the cyclical cosmology of yugas and kalpas, the impermanent nature of the material universe (including Brahma’s day/night and lifespan), the problem of karma, and the remedy of devotional service—particularly chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra—for liberation. The speaker gives numerical durations for the four yugas and Brahma’s lifespan, offers personal anecdotes showing chanting’s practical relief, and urges listeners (and their children) to practice devotional life.

Ram Ram Sam Ram Sam Jam Sam Ram Ram Ram Sam Ram. Namaste. It sa Translation By His Divine grace By human calculation, a thousand ages taken together form the duration of Brahma's one day. And such also is the duration of his night. Report Mishna Prabhupada. This is spoken today is 19 March 2006 at Tiruppati Mandir Bhagavad Gita. As it is 8th chapter 17 verse. In the manner of attaining the Supreme. This is the 520th year of our Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The duration of the material universe is limited. It is manifested in cycles of Kalpas. A Kalpa is the day of Brahma and one day of Brahma consists of a thousand cycles of four Yugas, four ages. Satya, Treta, Dwarpa and Kalis. The cycle of Satya is characterized by virtue, wisdom and religion. There being practically no ignorance and vice. And The Yuga lasts 1,728,000 years. In the Trey, the Yuga of Isis introduced and this Yuga lasts 1,296,000 years. In the Dvar Para Yuga, there is an even greater decline in virtue and religion, vice increasing, and this Yuga lasts 864,000 years. And finally, Kali Yuga, the Yuga we have now been experiencing over the past 5,000 years, there is an abundance of strife, ignorance, irreligion and vice. True virtue being practically non existent. And this Yuga lasts 432,000 years. In Kali Yuga, Vais increases to such a point for the determination of the Yuga. The Supreme Lord himself appears as the Kauti avatar, vanquishes the demons, saves his devotees and commences another Satya Yuga. Then the process is set, rolling again. These four yugas, rotating a thousand times, comprise one day of Brahman and the same number comprise one night. Brahma lives 100 of such years and then dies. These hundred years by Earth calculation, total to 311 trillion and 400 billion Earth years. By these calculations, the life of Brahma seems fantastic and interminable, but from the viewpoint of eternity, it is as brief as a lightning flash. Poof. In the causal ocean there are innumerable Brahmas rising and disappearing like bubbles in the Atlantic. Brahma and his creation are all part of the material universe, and therefore they are in constant flux. The whole thing. But yeah. Mari Dharma, Marita Satunam, Dada Mana, Paragan, Prakaram, Brahmadya, Malapi, Vinita, Brahmariyamatiya, Karna Brahm. In the Material universe. Not even Brahma is free from the process of birth, old age, disease and death. Brahma, however, is directly engaged in the service of the Supreme Lord in the management of this universe. Therefore he at once attains liberation. Elevated sanyasis are promoted to Brahma's particular planet, Brahmaloka, which is the highest planet in the material universe and which sign survives all the heavenly planets in the upper strata of a planetary system. When it do correspondence Brahman, all the inhabitants of Brahmaloka are subject to death according to the law of material nature. 17 Chapter 8 Translation and Purport Text 18 this translation is at the beginning of Brahma's day, all living entities become manifest from the unmanifest state. And thereafter when the night falls, they are merged into the unmanifest again. It is Laganiki, Bajim, Slam Rajagami, Vasaparta, Prabhavatyaharagami. Again and again. When Brahma's day arrives, all living entities come into being. And when the arrival of Brahma's night, they are helplessly annihilated. Yet there is another unmanifested nature which is eternal and is translated transcendental to this manifested unmanifested matter. It is supreme and never annihilated. When all in this world is annihilated, that part remains as it is. Krishna explains in verse 15 that those who attain him, the great soul, the Mahatmas, they never return to this material world again. Yeah, this material world is a world of temporary suffering. Have any of you ever suffered in this world? Anybody ever suffered? But sometime eventually the suffering ended, then there's a little happiness, then more suffering, then happiness, then more suffering. So why would someone want to return back back to this material world once they've achieved the highest perfection on them Here they have different aloyas. Pirapati is filled with aloyas shelters. Sometime a temple is called Dharmalloya. So here Krishna describes place of suffering. So why we want to stay out in this place of suffering? Why we don't want to serve Krishna directly? This material world by what is explaining to us how it functions, how it is created, annihilated, how in the material world there's karmas and we get the reaction for all our karma us how we can be free from the karmas by doing yagya. How if we don't do yagya then we get entangled in Karma. We just get bound up in the complexities of Karma if we don't engage in Yajna. Prabhupada explained here about the four yugas, their length, the period and then how they keep rotating one after another. The length of the yoga. Also elsewhere in the Vedas that describe that for each Yuga there is a yagya and SATA yoga as meditation. Treat the Yuga as homas. Dharpa Yuga is temple worship and Kali Yuga. Kali Yuga. What is the process? I was flying to Chennai today to come here to Tirupati. A fellow passenger talked to me. He's a businessman. He owns a milk. He has hundreds of employees. When he told me, he's very frustrated. He is feeling so much stress. His family life is stressful. His business life is stressful. His mother passed away three years ago. That is stressful. His father is sick after missing his wife. That is stressful. He works in Dukkhalaya. But he's a rich man. He's flying in the airplane not taking the train. This is the nature of the mature world. Everybody think they're going to be happy if they get money. If they get. But instead I get stressed. Problem. He told me he has problem with the unions. He has to do so many things because of unions. Him that after if he pays all the union fees, there's no money left. Problem. Problem. Problems. I told them to change Hare Krishna solution. He chanted Hare Krishna. I feel self relief. Even 10 times he chanted Hare Krishna. He felt relief. Please give your friends this magic pill. Some medicine. You require prescription of the doctor. If you take a medicine improperly, it's dangerous like that. Certain mantras and the Vedas must only be given to certain people. Otherwise it may have negative effect. Right? Some medicine. You can take it from the pharmacy without prescription. Aspirin, paracetamol. There's so many general medicine. There's not consideration it. You need a prescription for that. So Hare Krishna is Mahamantra. You don't need a prescription. This is daily tar for everyone. But if you chant it under guidance of Guru, then you get more effect. How many of you chant? So many ladies don't chant. Thank you for chanting home. Everyone will chant. Get the benefit. Why should you be deprived? In the Bhagavatam, Sukhdev Goswami said this Kali Yuga is ocean. Our problem. If you change the name of Krishna, this very good relief. You get two main benefits. You get freed Mukta Sangha. Freed from the contamination and suffering of the material world. In this material world, there's three gunas. What's the highest guna? The highest Satva Guna. What's the minu Guna Rajas passion and what is the lowest guna? Come on. Ignorance. Have you ever seen anybody in these three gunas? Now it will. Have you ever seen anybody in Aryan? Only to the Prabhupada. When we engage a pure devotional service we can be out of the three go now Gunas. Otherwise everybody is in the three gunas. We want you all to use your intelligence. Because we want you to get free from the Gonad. The table is when we engage in devotional service to become Guna teeth. To become above the three gunas. Brahma, Bhuayakalvate. This is the secret. Bhakti Yoga takes us above the gunas. And we can get that same effect by chanting Hare Ka Mukta Sangha Parambajay. Also by chanting Hare Krishna we achieved the supreme destination. How many of you want to attain the supreme destination? Don't be shy to say what you feel. Supreme destination is yours to achieve this chapter creating thy supreme. If we chant the transcendental vibration we can achieve supreme and Lord Shiva it is glorified. This eighth chapter. Bhagavad Gira Soma much. This eighth chapter. Even if you chant half of a verse you can go back to Gandhi. What to speak of? If you chant Harikishta or any other transcendental vibration. You know that story about the word. They know. Know. They know. They don't know. Who wants to know? Okay, well this I tell you the story from Padma Quran. There was two families who were Krishna conscious. It's like in Andhra Pradesh there are many devotee families. I find that Andhra Pradesh people are very devoted. Two years ago we were on safari to Andhra Pradesh for two weeks. And you all won over my heart. So much remote in my town in Andhra Pradesh. This time we're going to spend two weeks in Karnataka. I will see what they are like. But before we went there we wanted to get a good reminder about Andhra Pradesh here in Jirupati. So these two families had children. How many of you have children? Are you married? Who has children? How many want your children to be the bodies? Very good. Let's give them a hand. They wanted their children to be devotees also. One had a son, other had a daughter. They got their son and daughter married. They thought a devotee family they'll be able to follow nicely. But sometimes when people are born in a family they want to experience other things. They have desires that they don't they want to fulfill. Go some. So they decided let us visit different places and travel around the world. They were going everywhere different Cities, different towns. Seeing what people are doing. Time to enjoy life. It was the month of May. It was hot. It's hot here in maine. Very hot. 46 dad. 46 degrees Celsius. Wow. Fired up. So they were on a hot summer day. And they took rest under one imligat. This. What do you say? Tamarind peak. There are many tamarind trees in South India. Maybe this was in South India. You can tell me where this happened? I don't know. Name. There was a big cavern, big branches, big trunk. This tree was used by the king for hanging. Criminals see assassins, murderers. They get hung by the neck until death. In this tree there were many, many ghosts. And all the people who were hung there. But this couple, husband, wife, they didn't know. They're relaxing in this tree. But the ghosts are going around them. So the husband said, you know, we've been traveling around a long time. I'm not feeling very well. I'm feeling bored. Everywhere we go, same thing. Eating, sleeping, defending, fighting. Some place they eat with fingers. Some place to eat with spoon. Some place to eat with pork. Some place to eat with sticks, chopsticks. But they're all eating, all putting their food in their mouth only good. Same thing, just different styles. Sometime now I'm wondering, from our childhood we used to study spiritual things. What is the absolute truth? What is the spirit? What is karma and the laws that govern this material world? Who is the supreme Lord? I want to know these things now. The wife said, when I was in Gurukul, I learned the verse of Bhagavad Gita. Arjuna asked the same question. First verse, Bhagavad Gita, chapter 8. There was a explosion. He said that sloka and there was explosion. The tree exploded, it fell down. Because all the ghosts were listening around there too. And when she said that verse, they were liberated right in front of their eyes. They got divya sarupams, they got spiritual form us because of hearing Bhagavad Gita verse. From the spiritual world. From Vishnu Loka came a spiritual airplane savage. All the liberated ghosts got on that ship and went back to Vishalok. Living in the same planet as the Lord. So the husband, he saw this. He was amazed. He said, what was that verse you said? You are so powerful, my dear wife. You see, this proves anyone who has the right mantra is super powerful. Whether man or woman. That's why we're all giving you this Maha mantra, the great mantra. So you can all be super powerful. You can make a change in your Life and the life of all people around you. The wife said, this was the verse I learned from Bhagavad Gita. It must have purified his ghost. The husband said, I've seen it with my own eyes. They went back to God my hearing that verse. I'm going to chant that verse until I get back to Godhead Rama King Tajam. Another day like this every day he was chanting. Weeks went by, months went by, years went by. But he was determined. He knew eventually it will work. What's the mat? Smile. Notice the Lord is smiling. Oh what makes you smile today? So special. There's a Brahmin. He's a devotee on the planet in the four headed Brahma's universe and the planet Bharat Varsha who is chanting half a verse of Bhagavad Gita every day. What should I give that to Rohit? What do you think? What should we get? Well, it's not up to us to decide. It's up to the Lord to decide. He said the commander of the bring the Brahmin and his wife up. This eighth chapter Bhagavadi is so probably then a half a verse of 8th chapter liberated. So this very important chapter to attain the supreme. We say no. There is a supreme destination. We should aim how to achieve it. Human life is very short. If we perform the proper yankya during the short life we can also achieve the supreme eternal destination. Some people say wait till you're old. My mother came and she told me why don't you wait till you're old and then do this. My mother and my poor Vajram mother. I asked my poor Vajra mother, how long do I have to live? She said, what are you doing? You know parents don't know how long their children were living is how can you say wait till I get old. Can you guarantee that I'll get lived to be old? So people that tell you way to your old then Chen Hari Mishnah. You should ask him how long will I live? Then 50 years. Before you die, you can start changing. Give yourself some kind of practice. So Prahlad, he recommended we should start from five years of age. Thank you for watching our videos.
