A recorded lecture (Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 1.17.29 commentary) presenting an interpreter’s exposition on the personality of Kali, the decline of religious principles in Kali-yuga, and historical/anecdotal stories about King Parikshit and later regional kings and devotees. The speaker discusses the four pillars of religion (cleanliness, truthfulness, mercy, austerity) and how Kali undermines them, gives illustrative anecdotes (vegetarianism/restaurant story; theft of Goswami manuscripts and their recovery), and recounts a royal lineage that remained Krishna-conscious for 13 generations before decline.

Sama Godam. The royal dress of the personality of Kali is artificial. The royal dress is suitable for a king or a Kshatriya. But when a lower class man artificially dresses himself as a king, his real identity is disclosed by the challenge of a bona fide Chhatya like Maharaj Parikshit. Surrender is unknown to a real Kshatriya. In the age of Kali, there are so many pretenders dressed and posed like administrators or executive heads. But their real identity is disclosed when they are challenged by a real Chhatriya. Therefore, when the artificially dressed personality of Kali saw that to fight Maharaj Parikshit was beyond his ability, he bowed down his head like a subordinate and gave up his royal dress.
Unofficially eight, Officially four, but unofficially eight. No different versions.
So this part of the Bhagavatam gives us a lot of information about Kali for the first time now Kali is being introduced on me in the Bhagavad. But it is a clear way. Kali is the personality of this age and his cause for irreligion. So here the previous kings were very noble people who had high religious standards. They follow the four principles of religion. Cleanliness, truthfulness, mercy and austerity. The age of Kali. These four principles are systematically destroyed. Unclean because of breaking so many regular principles, especially prostitution and illicit sex, causes so many diseases due to uncleanliness.
And.
Then lack of mercy because of killing animals and slaughterhouses. I read some report where actually billions of animals are killed. Generally people. Some people that don't care, they can kill the animal themselves. But some people, they're not. Some people don't care. They can kill the animal itself. They don't. They hire someone else to do the killing. New York There was a famous restaurant owner who wanted to promote vegetarianism. He did it in a strange way. He invited everyone to come for a special rabbit dinner. $200 to go. So he took the two different rabbits, one red and one brown, and he had them feel the rabbit, look it in the eye and tell me which one you want us to kill. Which one? So 80% of the people.
And she translated properly, you say one.
Two kinds of rabbit is there? Yeah, two colors. Same, same kind. One white, one. One little white with brown, you know. They took each person, feel their habit, look in the eye and nice soft, little cuddly, wobbly ra. Because Mandarin is not my mother tongue. So they asked which one you want? 80% said, what's the appetite? That means that some little mercy was there when they actually saw this animal. Have to kill. Then they said oh no, I've got a fear. Then he came out and said okay, we'll cook for you but you have to kill it yourself. These are more aristocratic kind of people. So killing the animal, that was also true? No, Everyone said don't forget it this way. He encouraged everyone, show them that actually they're eating meat because they're having somebody else do it or they don't know the animal. The people that can actually kill the animal, they don't have so much mercy, something like that. Cleanliness, mercy and austerity. That's, that's why because of gambling, because of intoxication. Truthfulness is gambling. Then because of intoxication people, they can't tell that they can't follow any austerities. So then people get drunk. What is the question of austerity then? Because of gambling they don't tell the truth. Gambling is based on kind of falsehood. So like this is Kali Karaji's four breaking these four principles and these are destroying the principle of religion. So Parikshit Maharaj, he doesn't want this Kali to spread irreligion in his kingdom. Previously the, the Buddhists were also vegetarian and non violent. But nowadays not everyone follows this principle very strictly. In our Ka conscious movement we want, we describe Satik Ahar, Sattik Achar, eating in the mode of goodness, behaving in the mode of goodness. We should eat things like fruit, vegetables, things which are fresh, which are not killed like this eating and then offer the food to Krishna. Said in the Kali Yoga, truthfulness is the last leg of the the cow is standing on one leg which is truthfulness. China, newspapers, you always read some minister gets caught at least in other western countries telling a lie, doing a falsehood. So it's a big scandal, he has to resign. Recently some of the biggest industrialists also were caught telling some lie. I think one Samsung owner and chief executive in Korea, he also had to resign. People expect at least the leader should be honest. But in Kali Yoga it's also a little bit that's still there. But other things, not much at all have a principle that if you surrender to them, they won't. Nowadays instead of Chatriyas there's terrorists, buses, shops, the previous system where the two administrators or the two Chatriyas, they fight and whoever would win would be the winner and the other one would die. It says here in the previous verse parisha, to fight with a thousand men, single handedly.
Fight.
With a thousand people. So like this, he was protecting all the people. There were no criminals in his kingdom. There was one world government at that time. There was peace in the world, one world government. So there was no wars. Now we have the United nations, which is trying to make like one united world. There's still so many wars. Big war, small war, guerrilla war. Something like 42 wars going on in the world. 40, like in Somalia, Africa. There's so many wars. There's terrorists in India who are in Kashmir, Sri Lanka. Tamil Tigers, they count around the world. There's lots of wars going on. Iraq, Palestine and Israel. There's a war going on in Colombia. There's lots of wars going on. Someone counted. I didn't count that. Actually, if you count all of them, the stuff like 40. That was some years ago, I don't know, may have changed more or less. Civil war, international war. So it's almost inconceivable a world without any war. There was no war. Manage very fairly. If you surrender to him, he won't kill you. But everyone has to follow his rule. He was fair, but he was also very strong. So this again. Maybe there are not so many. Royal order degraded and therefore the kings were removed. But at least we can see that one time it was working very nicely. Because the kings were very proper people. The kings lose their chapter. Equality chapter means to protect. They're supposed to protect their citizens, not to exploit them. Already few. But Chaitanya said we should spread the Harinams on Kirtan to bring up the.
People.
Chanting the holy names. When Srivasacharya and Narayatam Dastakur Chemana Pandan were bringing the books of the Goswamis from Vrindavan to Bengal to be copied in other deep. They were taking the books. The books were written by Krishnadas Kabiraj by the group of Goswami. By Goswamis. So those books were in manuscript form. They're in a big box. There were a couple guards and there were some bullock carts. Then they went passing through the kingdom of Vancura. That king, he was a poor kingdom. Not so fertile land, mostly forest. So then he had an astrologer. The astrologer told him that there's a priceless treasure pass into your kingdom. This is more valuable than diamonds and pearls and jewels and gold. So that he got very greedy. He called his secret service police. I want you to go and steal this. Steal it and bring it to it. Each of you very good rewards. So the police went disguised as things. The three Sadhus were Acharyas. They were resting in the Night. The two guards are also resting. Not resting, but resting. This is too easy. They took the box, it went up. They brought the box back to the king. Was this a proper king? He's stealing from the people going to his kingdom 500 years ago or not? Very proper. Following all the rules. So he put the box in his treasure room, told all the guards to leave, all the. Everyone to leave. Because he is so valuable. You don't want them to see how valuable. Maybe they'll steal from him also. Open the box to see that treasure. The priceless treasure. What is it gonna be? Diamonds or pearls or rubies? Emeralds? What's it going to be? Opens it. Books. Shoe. Shoe. From the very top was Chaitanya Charitamrita. He's reading his. What is this book? What is this thing here? Something about Krishna. Look down there. It's all religious books. Oh no. These are priceless treasures of some religious. Some. Some sadhus, some gurus.
Books.
Religious literary treasure. Oh no. What have I done? Now I've stolen books from some sadhus. Now I'm going to go to hell for the sin. We call back the police. And now you gotta find this, who you stole from. We have to give this back. It's all books. The Acharyas woke up. You saw the books were gone. Books that all the great Goswamis, the six Goswamis of Jiva different her written that were entrusted to them by the deity Radagovinda, their God. Oh no. Where are the books? Where are the books? What have we done? They're beating their hands on the trees. They're rolling or pulling their hair. No, no. Shrinivasacharya was the leader of the expedition. He was entrusted to take the books. He told Maratham, Das Thakur and Shrinivasacharya to go to their places. He'd find the books and then he would send a message when he found them. Acharya was responsible. She told others, go home, I'll sign the book and tell them like that. Looking everywhere. Someone told him, ask the king. Maybe he knows. So he went to the king's palace every afternoon. The king had Bhagwatam classic. This king's guru gave the class. And he thought, if I have Bhagavatam class, I can steal and do the class and get forgiven for my sins. Which offense of the Holy Name is that? Which offense is similar to this? The seventh offense to sin and the strength of chanting the Holy Name. So he was sinning on the strength of reading the Bible. And his Bhagavan glasses were not very good. Not my show. He was giving the class and it was causing Shiniva such a so much pain. So the king said, what's wrong with you? What's your problem? You don't like my Guru's class? The Bhagavatami said it's perfect. But the class. It's very painful for me. Okay then you give the class. If we like your class, you live. If you don't like it and live, survive. Otherwise we kill you while offending our Guru. Chatriya also need good gurus. Otherwise they don't do things properly. He was given the title Acharya because he's very good at giving Bhagavatam class. Sweet sugar means a great master who teaches by his example. Such a beautiful class. People were ecstatic to hear his clap. Even the Guru had accepted offered. Obviously the king thought, maybe he's the Sadhu who had the books. I want to speak to you in private. You don't mind. Took him in the back to the private room. Who are you? Why you come here? I was in Vrindavan. He's the incarnation of Ka. He came from Golok Vrindavan and he was spreading love of Godhead. Former prime minister of this empire, Sanatan Sakar Malik Ravi Kasu, known as Sanatan and Rupa Goswamis. They surrendered to him and went to Vrindavan. They wrote many books for the upliftment of humankind. These books were entrusted to me to bring to Bengal. King was saying, I know this Sanatan, the prime minister. I wanted to why did he give up such a huge post? I had to go and bow down and give my tax to him. He was so powerful. He gave up everything, became a Sadhu. What a foolish guy. This King. He. He was obviously materialist. He thought that material power was more important than spiritual grace. He said, those books were stolen from me. All the Goswamis in Vrindavan, they can't eat, they can't sleep. Everyone's worrying about these books. The irreplaceable, priceless, priceless jewels. Then the king fell and grabbed the feet of Shrinivas. Please forgive me. Forgive. You have the books. I have. Accept me as your disciple. So that I can get forgiven for my offense. If I accept you as my guru. First let me see the books. Took him to the treasure room. There was the box. The trunk was standing in the box. Opened up the box. The box. You can't take the box. Sri Bhasa traitsa Had to take the books and go to Navadip and have them copied. King said, you don't have to take the books anywhere. I'll bring the pundits from Navadi. If they sit here and copy for you, I'll pay for all of it. The queen also came and begged blessings and asked to be accepted as his disciple. There was a king that was doing wrong things. But later he got purified by Shrinivasacharya. They made their whole kingdom Krishna conscious. To be the Raj Guru he would have to be married. She has to guide the king in family matters also. So he asked for advice from Narahari Thakur associates who was still present at the time. So Nararitakura said, better to get married and be the Raj Guru and make the whole kingdom Krishna conscious. For 13 generations, every one of the kids king's descendant also was a devotee of Raana and Krishna.
You got the number wrong.
Each one built their own Rana Vishnu temple. But after 13th generation, just before the British came, there was the emperors who become weak again. So there was a bandit, warlord who claimed to be a king. Bandit. Bandit means like a robber. Warlord. Warlord is like. Like someone who declare himself like a king. But he's not official king. They have warlords in Africa, Somalia. They control by force. So many times he attacked the descendant of this king. But he failed to defend him. One time he came with 10,000 men army. They will kill innocent people. They would rob. They would destroy everything. The king said, let all chat. Tomorrow will fight. After chanting whole kingdom was chanting. The warlord. His name was called Bhaskar Pandit. I don't know why they call him Pandit. He was from Maharashtra. Bandit. Because he wasn't a chapter. He didn't follow the rules of war. He said, they're going to chant all night with this one killing. He hated Vaishnavas. He hated Brahmanas. Attack in the night. Try to slaughter the innocent people. But all of a sudden there was cannon fire. Cannon. You know cannon. That's this big.
Boom boom.
Boom, boom.
Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom.
Shooting like a machine gun. Don't say that. No machine gun cannon was just shooting like something. The king said, who's disobeying my order? Who's fighting? The gun was just shooting so fast those days. The cannon. You had to put the gunpowder in, put the big ball in. Put the fuse in the rear. This is the light in the back. Then again. But this is going like power. Then the king went out and said what's happening? He found the entire army of Bhaskar Pandit was destroyed, Massacred dead. There were two cannons there Red hot little heart. Yeah. Who fired this? Who was here? So the Bibi came from the temple took a big form and hold one cannon under each side. The king went to the this is the original Temple of Srinivasa Chariot.
13.
Generation later the original temple original deity they were well known. The king went into the daily room smelling like gunpowder Didi was clothes smelling like gunpowder Didi protected his devotees and wiped out. If you go to Vishnupura where this kingdom capital was, you can still see that cannon. It's there. What you say? So like that we're reading about Khalid who was an imposter Reading about Brigitte who's the great Kshatriyan don't match up to the Chatriya so much. Yeah, great things for protecting their citizens 500 years ago. There are also all world Chicago's past and many things were kings Although he didn't talk to any king.
