20091205 || Bhagavad-gītā Class (12.2) || New Dvārakā, USA #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

Recorded Bhagavad-gītā class (chapter 12, verse 2) led by Jaya Pataka Swami. The speaker explains that Krishna values worship of his personal form (Bhakti) above impersonal realization, contrasts Bhakti with impersonal/māyāvāda views, and uses anecdotes (temple incidents, devotees, Hollywood chanting) to illustrate devotional practice. The discussion includes practical guidance for householders (caring for children as devotional service), instructions on chanting (Hare Krishna), and comparative-religion remarks distinguishing Mayavadis and Buddhists; the session contains audience questions and answers and ends with announcements.
The blessed Lord said, he whose mind is fixed on my personal form always engaged in worshipping me with grace and transcendental faith is considered by me to.
Be most perfect Hare Krishna. Today we heard the Bhagavad Gita chapter 2 verse, chapter 12, verse 2.
And I.
Dedicated a book this. Look at this suture shop. Arjuna had this doubt. Sometimes Krishna spoke about the impersonal Yoga and sometimes he talked about the personal process of Bhakti. So which did he think was actually the best? Arjuna would like to have this doubt clarified because Arjuna he was practicing Bhakti Yoga. So whether he is right or he should do the Yana Yoga, the impersonal realization replies that the process of worshipping his personal form is considered by him the letter and that those who do the worship of him are most appropriate. Now we know that, say the Ganeois, while they are doing their Dhyana or there are mental speculation, they're thinking about the eternal aspect of the Brahma Jyoti. But as soon as they stop their activity trying to do some ordinary activity, their whole plantation is broken. RSD LAKIOI Whatever they do, they do as an offering to Ka, get Karasi Jatrasi. Whatever they do or they give way or everything is done as a devotional service to Ka. Whether they go shouting or whatever they do, they're doing it for Ka. So in this way a Krishna who first takes a job. There are several verses in the Bhagavad Gita where Ka says that devotees on him, those who are engaged in his Sadakti Yoga, he gets asked to read the vest or letter. Many aloysis that Krishna says the yogis that are Bhakti Yoga are better. So this is Sunday. So this is the process of Bhaktiyohara. It's actually we are always 24 hours a day we're engaged in KA's devotional service. If you take rest, you rest so you can do more service for Krishna. You have to eat the eat Pra Prashad. So on. Now the Lakhi yogis especially do Saharaja Ka in a fatal way. They don't mean any offense. Agelio is sometimes a very offensive Krishna. I went to see the Shankar Sharia the party to get as I was told he could give permission to tell to let the han bodies into a general puri. This was allowed in 1970 tours.
So.
He had dutiful Radha Krishna deities. So I told him that, you know, Ayurvedis are practiced with like the Yoga, they are vegetarian, they follow the rules and regulations, so on and so forth. So they should be allowed in the the temple of Dharampuri. He said, you see, if he had the royals, he'd take a kilo of ghee. The parrots are burning, couldn't drink it. They go into the temple. He said how they will die, become a Hindu the next night and then they can go into temple. So that didn't seem like a very positive suggestion. I don't think we were asked to devote not suicide. So then I said, you worship Radhakrishna. He said, I am Radhakrishna, I worship myself. I said Radhakrishna that's very beautiful. You're elderly man. That's Leela. I said that Leela. Everyone is growing old. That's nothing special staying young. If you stay young and you're six years old, seven years old, you would be impressed. There was a job no hold in talking to him. So he was quite authentic. He was saying he is Rain Krishna. Similarly some devotee in South India they talked to Chennai Nanda. Now he was giving a lecture. So someone at the end asked a question that the devotees are Hare Krishna. They chant Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Hare Hare. And they seem to feel a great ecstasy, great bliss. So isn't it that they are getting this ecstasy from the Hare Krishna mantra? Don't think it's from the Hare Krishna Mantra. It's the voids between the words. The voids are giving you ecstasy. So they always what Chaitanya said Mayavadi, Harya, Krishna Akharati. They want to commit some offense to Ka. Now Pranaja Acharya's sensei guru was also a Vairabati. So there's a verse that says that Krishna has a face which is like a lotus blossoming. And the he translated his own way that Krishna has a face like the rear end of a monkey. So when I heard a huge young boy, he started to cry. How can you say such a thing? Horrible. And the tears shot drip tea on his side. His gurus, his Sanskrit gurus laying with tears were falling said you're crying, what's wrong? He would translate this word verse in such a way hurt me very much. One other way he says translate. And he said, you know, he translated. It means the lotus. Red lotus. As you know, red ass, red lotus. And so then this guru decided you were a killer of this Rama Raja. He got killed. Then he ordained him in the nine bodies. So and the story goes on.
So.
This is a Lalas tend to be Ka offenders. They're not satisfied with doing their Impersonal worship. They want to criticize Krishna at all costs. They want to dedicate the duty of the Lord that slows down their progress. Otherwise, if the confessionalists are just doing their professional yoga without offending Krishna, they would. I'd see the realization much faster. This was the situation with the park of ours and sugar Din was flowing sugar. Dad was Swami. He was 16 years in the womb of his mother. Although he was impersonally realized, he was afraid if he did well, he'll be caught up like man. Because he didn't know the process of Bhakti Yoga. Or he go to actually, I do devotional service and stay in the transcendental platform. It's like our Satsita Tanoidas. He knows about LAX Now. LAX is a place of Maya. We could say. There are so many shops selling people. They're all going to fly one place the next. But he's going up for sense gratification. He goes understood the looks of Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam. So as a result, he is protected by Ka. Rather, he liberated our soul and his soul. So like this, the Lord is they going to even more Hellas. They are down in Hollywood now. Tourists go to Hollywood to see the saints and eat and drink and whatnot. So what they're doing Harry gown in Hollywood as a result of people dressed up in costumes like Spider Man. Who else? Sponge Man, Batman, Batman, Superman. They're all chanting Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna Krishna Ka Hare. So this is the illegal influence which is Hollywood is offense Naya sugar. But as Orijo chanting Ari Krishna. And rather they create a festive atmosphere in these imitation superheroes. They also come and dance. They take advantage of the crowds to raise their funds. So this chanting of Hare Ka is a transcendental way for the everyone truly protective. Now, any of the nine processes of devotional service one can use to be projected. But we use the Satyanthi or Hare Krishna. Mainly we also use the other systems. This is how the devotees show. When Srikhadevas only heard this from Lord Krishna himself. Then he realized, okay, I can take birth, I can stay protected Thy devotion. Source Sahira convert from Ganyogi to Bhakti Yoga. We heard that here in Los Angeles there are a lot of Bhakti yoga groups though. And they're interested in Bhakti Yoga. So this is good note. Bhakti Yoga is a tigy. So Bhakti particularly means to Narayana or to Krishna or to Rama. So Krishna in his verse, he's discussing that of all the yogis, he considers the Dhaka yogi to worship his personal form to be the best. So we take his opinion and his final He's a yogeshar. He's the Lord of all yogis. He knows what is the last one isn't. So this also is the process which is easier to practice. Kaliyur. Actually, Kal Yuga is considering a simple age Asian pearl. But it's very easy to achieve success in spiritual life. And they call you up by chanting the holy names. So Krishna would chant hi Krishna and chat that is advancing and fill up.
He's downloading lyrics One more second.
Really want to see you really want to be with you really want to see you alone and it won't take long My love, my sweet love.
Really.
Want to be with you really was really want to be with you but it takes so long.
To see.
Really.
Want to see you really want to see you Lord but it takes so long.

Words are flowing out like endless rain Into a paper cup they slither while they pass across the universe Pull the sound waves of joy Drifting through my open mind Possessing and caressing.
Me.
Krishna's gotta change my world Krishna God, Change my world Krishna changed my.
World.
Images of broken light which stands before me like a million as they call me on and on across the universe Thoughts meander like a restless, restless wind Inside a letterbox they tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe Krishna's gotta change my world world Krishna Gotta change my world Krishna's gonna change my world Sounds of laughter, shades of earth Are ringing through my open dears Inciting and inviting me Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million Something calls me on across the universe Krishna's gonna change my world Krishna's gonna change my world Krishna's gonna change.
My world.
Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
Today. Yeah.
We have a question.
One minute, please. In the sanctuary. Yeah.
The shortage of a. There is a question by Buddhists are offenders. Mayavadis are also offenders. Which one of the two are more offensive to the Lord? Sachita, Nayam, Prabhu.
Well, interesting question. The Myavadis, they say that Krishna is ridiculous. A manifestation in the Satghura of the impersonal absolute truth. As far as I've heard, as far as the Buddhists, generally speaking, they don't believe in any gods and such. Although apparently Lord Buddha, at least in Sri Lanka, they consider that he left his Dhammapada under the protection of Lord Vishnu. So in all the Buddhist temples, they have Pictures other deeding of the Lord Vishnu. And they consider him the protector of the teachings of our Buddha. I don't know if other authorities Buddhists do the same thing, but they do in Sri Lanka. So ashamed. The Buddhists don't out of the way to criticize God because they don't consider this any God or such. Then they go in their favor to some extent the amount of values. I think it's like really personal thing. Some Maharis are very authentic to Ka. Whereas other impersonalists are not particularly authentic to Ka. Mildly they consider Ka subordinate to the intention of Quran. Whereas Krishna says again the 14th chapter, last verse. He says they say that Ramadan is the basis of Krishna. It's harder to know who is more offensive who denies the existing of Ka's God or one who reduces God to some other large status his son or Buddhist. He doesn't go all the way to authentic time. Certain persons like Sukhaji he did not go out of his way. So I think that it's more. It seems like we studied the situation that it's an individual thing. How offensive one is because some are imprisoners who are not so offensive to Krishna. Others are more offensive. Whereas like in Sri Lanka, I saw the Hindus are not necessarily very favorable to Ka. They like Srila more. And so they consider Srila to be independent of Ka, which is one of the offenses. I was there. I quoted from the different from the Bhagavad and the Fatima Quran. And then one person raised hands. Why you always speak from the Bhagava Quran and the Paga Qur'?
An?
Why not from the Shia Quran or from the Skandha Quran? So I have to deity Quran. So then I did a search on polio and found there were many verses from Kundra Prana from the Shield Front. Vaishila Vaishna glorify the name of Ka. Then in the Skandha Quran says the two syllables please Tusha. The Lord steals away from you. He's still doing all your suffering, all your misfortune, all your bad karma, all the dirt in your life. Oh, that's okay. He can still dirt. So there are many nice verses. Some verses I see 2 hadith I can't speak of it. So it's in some cases you find people who are very offensive. They may not necessarily be myelitis or the squid. Other people they become, they're quite favorable. So we find that again Sri Lanka I have some disciples among me. Sinhalese are Buddhists because they have some respect for Wisdom So they had the option to hear the opportunity to hear the message of Islam. They were favorable. Whereas some of the Hindus didn't only hear the message of Vishnu unless they could speak it from the Skandha or the Chiddup rod. Then okay, they're open. So it's a tough call. But generally I would say that why the Buddhists are offensive because they don't believe in any God. But not necessarily they don't go out of their way because they don't believe in God. So they kind of avoid that old issue. But in my ladies, to push their claim, they tend to go out of their way to hold on. The religion of Vishnu and Krishna, it's not equal across the border.
Prahlad Maharaj rejected his father when Nadev Prahlad Maharaj rejected his father when Nishingadev appeared. Bali Maharaj rejected his guru when Vamana Dev appeared. But when Lord appears in disguise to Vrinda Devi, why did she not reject her husband Toshini Dasi? Prahlad Maharaj Prahlad Maharaj rejected his father when Narasingadeva appeared. Bali Maharaj rejected his guru when Vamanadev appeared. But when Lord appeared in disguise to Vrinda Devi, why did she not reject her husband? She was still attached to serving her husband. So she felt it was a duty dharma to serve her husband.
Krishna came in the skies and the.
Story of Tulsi Devi. The story of Tulsi Devi when Vishnu came these guys. Yeah, that's. But it was Sanka Chura. It was a trick that Lord Vishnu was doing to come before Tulsi Devi. So she's asking how come she didn't reject him there that she had said him.
Why was she upset? Why was she upset that she broke her Dharma? Because when Vishnu came as disguised as.
Her husband.
She served. But she felt offended by it.
She realized she was tricked by Darvish.
And she was a faith woman.
In one sentence, Prahlad all he did was preach to his father. And he said, give out sense gratification and preach and accept Vishnu. But his father said, if you are Vishnu, I'm going to kill you at sunset. So if there isn't exist he should say that he never went through the action of rejecting his father. As such, his father rather rejected him. He tried to save his father to the end. You know, just Dhruva Maharaj never rejected his father. His mother had guided him to look for Vishnu. But I don't know the whole story of Tulsi, but I can understand. Vishnu came disguised as her husband. So she served Vishnu. Later when she realized that this was not her husband then our system that she had taken a vowel to only serve her husband. So she helped it, she broke her vow. But what the similarity is between these different examples I don't see personally. It's like a different so like that in the. You see there are many examples of like Krishna conscious ladies who are very chaste. And one of them was this. At one point she was considered to be the most chaste woman in the whole universe. So Lakshmi, Saraswati or Lashmi, Sati and Parvati. They gathered together and told their husbands Yuvant how she explained the most changed because each of them thought they were the most changed. I think Shalipti and Poverty, the consorts of Vishnu, Rama and Siva. So the three went disguised as Ramana and they asked for Bhiksha. So whatever you want, how you do so we want to see you naked. Now if she throws herself naked before anybody other than her husband then she'll be unchanged. I mean she throws herself the heart of the man. But then she got idea I'll turn all them into my babies. And the mother is naked before the Devi that's unchanged. So she turned all the three into little Devita, your Mitsubal. And then she shows rocking in Chittagh they have this. So there's all kinds of stories like that in the Puranas which are very interesting. So then the three ladies, the Lakshmi, Dharvati and the. So they come and they say okay, okay, you wait, you're in the wash state. Please go in background. So then she turned them back into men and into whatever full grown. And then they were released back to their wives. So there are stories like this but they're not necessarily any devotional service. There are different stories of paramount about how a woman her strength is her chastity, namely other things. A woman strengthens chastity, that she's very loyal to her husband. So that may be like highlighted by shall commentators that Tulsi Devi was very chaste to her husband. Her devotional point of view. We know that like the Gautis they were they loved their husbands and they went after Ka. They're considered to be the most that the Ka considers to be the husband of Ellie. So there was no offense on their part. It depends which connotation or which version. Carl, you read how the Chelsea started. It's not in our normal readings. I don't know exactly which one you're in. Hare Krishna.
Follow up on that in the present time. Is it What? What is better following Dharma or if. If there is a question about following Dharma or doing service, devotional service, which is which should in the present time, how should we address that following? What has differenced?
I hear you, but I don't really understand what the question is.
Talking about her duties as a mother and as a wife at home and the time that takes versus going to the temple, doing service and being interested in them. Both are in the same plate.
That's where Prabhupada he gave instruction.
That.
The wife should also allow the children and care for children to their household. Rama, not only wife but also husband. At the same time they should do some service to Krishna. Many that would lead the deities to Homan's son. Shall you, Raju, like you had devoted husband said for you to work it out how much time you could send in temple, how much time you have to send in the family. So today let's try to recommend that people marry devotee wives, devotee husbands. So then they can also together as a couple, they can do their service. So I saw like in the Middle east, one member of the family would stay with the kids before their final exam to help them study. Because Indian parents that help the kids do their homework. But the other one, we were always attending naomata rickshaw preaching. So alternate who does that? So they would work it out, you know, they would cover both ways, the holidays and the teaching days. Because whatever the wife does, whatever the husband does is devotional source. The other one will share the result. So they work as a team. So that way, Lord, one must see that they get some blessings from Ka. Lord see that their household duties, their kids grow up nice, they pass their exams. So they're working on how they're going to do that. It doesn't take two to oversee the kids for their exams. One is enough sannyasi. I mean, how you manage, it's a wonderful thing. I don't know. I think the Vihastas are doing our special hari lols and pronouns. How they devotions are. I don't have any other vriastic concerns, but you have both of us. So one thing is you do like you train your children that you do as your service to Ka. That's what this verse said. Everything we do, we do it as a devotional service. I want to give my children the vest and life so that they become devotees and so they can be youthful in Christian service. So at the same time you're doing that also as a devotional service and then some direct preaching or some you do the Sunday school so that also you do as a service. And he may do some time, he may open up the temple council. As I know.
I read one time that Prabhupada wrote a letter to one of his disciple women. And she was a little bit concerned and confused because she was not able to do the Puyari service. And then Prabhupada said that taking care of your children is your devotional service. These children have been sent by Krishna to us and that's your devotional service. We should take care of them. They are special children, not just anybody else. I just remember that letter.
Some children, they felt neglected by their parents. And then they become like envious, angry Krishna. Because my parents were so much into bhakti, they never loved me. So you don't want to. You don't want to let them. You want to give them a lot of affection. You want to take them that Krishna giving them a chance to make their soul Krishna conscious. So that's one of your projects. You don't want to like sacrifice. I think all this child is a burden. Or some of you has to think of their children as virgins. Let them do puja. That you know, that's not the rule that Prabhupada was promoted. How many more questions you have?
You know, it's a short question. I see.
You know.
You know when you have you chanting with your feedback. Yeah. And then you go in the temple and then you give a vase and then you put the feedback in the floor when you give the basins. You know, I'm not sure if you know if that's an offense or it's okay because you decided. Usually now I start putting away before I do races.
I heard, I read from home, from someone that someone pleading the lide on the asana and that Prabhupada objected that on the asana you put your feet in. So I just pick up the floor and the asana he was affecting the third. So using your hand, you dictate to someone else or you put in your hand so it doesn't actually hit the floor or you put it somewhere else. Now you have to be careful. You don't forget your deeds. Sometimes you steal them. I heard there's a black market rape. Especially the chairman that some famous guru auction off. How long are auction Internet? 14. 14 hiking. Okay, last question.
How can one know which is a true bona fide religion? I get asked this question very often in the university or community college when I go there to talk about comparative religions and Vedic religions. So most often this question comes up. How can one know which is a true bona fide religion? Other words, what you're saying, how do you know it's true? The one true, the true religion?
Well, it says a Dharma Saksha Bhagwat Praditam, that any Dharma is healed by God. So the religions which are said to have come from God at faith value, we accept them as a bona fide religion, whatever they may be. But the Vedas were given by Vyasadeva, the incarnation of Godhead. They say Jesus is the Son of God. So his teachings were recorded. Allah, he was a prophet. He got a dictator like Gabriel, who was an angel and messenger of God. So I don't know the different religions, they say that they have at least at face value, they're saying that the teachings were spoken right. Either God himself or thy son in Christ, Incarnational God or angel or something. But like in a general sense, we accept religions that accept the personality God if you want. In the Purana there's like it mentions that there's four Samprajayas, Brahma, Rudra Kumar and Sri Lanka. And any mantra outside these four is not going to produce an effect. So in the Vedic, those are the four one heart, you know, being very literal. We'll take any religion that's said to come from God. How much we actually accept. Like we consider that as Rahul was saying that most of these are religions, they're like primary or secondary steps. But the graduate study, the college course for spiritual life, you get from the Vedas, they're much more animals. Otherwise all different religions are like one book.
But.
So we try to accommodate like the problem of saying the Muslims. They can become chanted with Hare Krishna and do their namas five times a day. They can do their, their Islamic practices, but they should change high condition and be vegetarian. They should, no problem. So something to ask. Well, how is your process really universal? I have a nun. She's how they say, nun. She's a Christian, she, she's a Catholic, she's a non superior, she's a disciple. So she thought that she would change Jaiju Krishna, Jaiju Krishna. They told her she could change anything on God. But then she just experimented for herself. Chanting Hare Ka, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare, Hare Harila. And he found that it had the same effect as chanting on Jesus Christ, but it was even more powerful. So she began to chant Hare Krishna. Later she chanted 16 rounds and she became a vegetarian. And she followed the four principles. So she took initiative. So we don't say that you have like there's nowhere in Krishna conscience that you have to repeat reject Jesus, you have to reject Bahana Pithi and Dharma, you have to reject Vodhaan. In the Buddhist Shankara in Thailand he said as far as they concerned any mantra is the same. You chant a mantra into Vikasana so that's all right. So we get Buddhist chant Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna. Actually we accept that Buddha is avatar but they, the Buddhists they don't think that Buddha is avatar. They think there's no such thing as God. So at one time we have more respect for Buddha than they do. So this way ka consciousness is universal. We accept all the religions at the same time. You see that most religions don't really have much information about the personality God had. Why things happen. I was one night I was at the free speech lane in LSU, in Louisiana State, in Baton Rouge. Every time I go there I get attacked by the Christians fanatics. So I ask the truth and what do I say? What I do said you start to ask them questions, they don't have the answers and then other students will listen. So I said why? They said hey, there's only one way. The true delight of so onion they're finagled why if this is only birth we take why is it that Santi will go on critical to bright and other blind healthies? Then the other answer is well this is a mystery. So like this, after two, three different mysteries we give the answer and we said because of karma. So then they were ruled off by all the other students and they left. But we don't have any offense to, we have all the respect always talks respectfully about Jesus, about all these different saints of Guru Dharana but some of the followers, they are like very aggressive and very negative in their approach. So like this we try to present that we're offering an option that anyone can study the postgraduate studies about God consciousness. They can know more about God personality on it and that there's often for everyone you don't have to give up your faith in Jesus or Muhammad or Buddha or whoever they need. You can practice Krishna conscience and still reflect your original picture the site. You don't give luck to pregnant teachers because you go to high school or you go to college. That was useful but they don't give you the complete picture. So I thank you all and we thank those who are doing on Internet. Tomorrow evening at 5 o' clock we'll be getting a class for the Sunday feast in the temple of Los Angeles and that will be. This is by the. What's it called?
