Gauravani Pracharin Jayasri Krishna Chaitan Prabhu Nithyananda Sri Advaita Sriva Sari Gora Bhakta Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Hare Krishna So while waiting for Guru Maharaj to come here, we thought we will do a small introduction about the personality that you are going to meet soon. I think most of you have met him generally Sadhusanga, it's very powerful association with the devotees. Especially very elevated devotees. It's very, very powerful.
Sadhusanga Tumba Shakti Adalyntu Adukoda association Andres Sangha Sudhavaktar Sangha Tumba Shaktiyyatavada.
By associating with sadhus and even by simply by seeing a sadhu, very elevated sadhus that will leave an everlasting impact in our heart. And it is especially important to associate with sadhu and to know about that particular sadhu. And it is important to hear from the sadhu and to know about that sadhu. So by listening from a sadhu and also to know about the sadhu, that will increase our faith on that sadhu.
Now Avarinda Kelu in the Mati Avarinda.
So like recently, Guru Maharaj was in Dallas for a sadhu Sangha festival. How many of you seen that video on the YouTube Sadhushanga Festival in Dallas?
Video Sadhusanga Festival.
It's a very big festival. About more than 3,000 devotees from all over USA attended this festival. And then one evening, Guru Maharaj, he gave Bhagavatam class one morning and he gave a long class. So much so that there was no time for question and answer session. Then Sachinandan Swami, he quickly jumped on the stage and he took the mic.
And he announced that Haga his oldness Sachinand Swami our stage Hogi Maikantha Gandhar.
And he said Maharaj, he told Guru Maharaj, he said that I'm very, very sorry that we don't have much time for question and answer session.
Our elder Swami, Guru Maharaj.
But I have one question for you. He asked him, what is the secret of you being very happy? What is despite all your physical disabilities, what is keep you going on and on forever? So then Guru Maharaj answered. He said that, yes, I am. Half of my body is semi paralyzed. Not everyone can understand what I speak. I cannot do anything by myself. I had major transplantation which was done recently. And overall, I'm a rack.
Overall, nano, rack.
Rack means, you know, like you see a ship. A ship. If the ship has become, you know, completely broken down, you'll see them like lying on one corner of the beach. It will become like useless. So that's how I am. But I am very, very happy within me. So that happiness kept me going on and on with my devotional service. So then that left almost everyone. All the audience started crying. Now, what made them to have tears in the eyes? Because that answer came from a person who's actually literally living a life of what he spoke. Because if you analyze the external physical appearance of Guru Maharaj, he cannot stand on his own, cannot walk, cannot eat on his own. He cannot dress himself up. He is depending for every single physical movement on somebody else. And on top of that, he has various different kind of diseases. High bp, sugar. And then recently, you all know, he went for a kidney and liver transplant.
Bp, high BP, sugar, kidney, liver transplantation.
And then now, you know, there are various other complications almost every single day. He has some difficulties even coming to Mangalore. It was very uncertain. Many times we have postponed it. Namanista Prabhu knows about this. But yet he made it somehow to come to Mangalore. So imagine if we put ourselves in that sort of condition. Sometimes a little headache, little stomach pain. We give all kind of excuses not to do our chanting, not to go for mangalarati and all kind of things. We find all kind of excuses not to do any devotional service properly. But he is completely opposite.
Completely.
So here is a very good example, a practical example of a person who is living a life of what can actually motivate one despite having all kind of difficulties. Even if it is. Even if we don't talk about spiritual path even materially. If someone you know in the material life, if someone in his condition, you need to have something within you to motivate you to do something. So this is what. This is exactly what Krishna teaches us in Bhagavad Gita. I think most of you would have heard about this despite, you know, I mean, happiness and distress will come like summer and winter season, up and down. But one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed. Nobody can escape from this happiness and distress being in this material world. Now if somebody is promising you that you will have happiness forever, no distress, then he is a big cheater. But Krishna has made it very clear that in this material world you will have. You will experience happiness and also distrust. But Krishna's teaching is that how to learn to tolerate them without being disturbed. Like we also, all of us, we go through different kind of difficulties in our life. Sometimes we are happy, sometimes we are very depressed, in distress. And some people they tolerate and some they tolerate. But mentally they are very disturbed. Some people they cannot tolerate at all, even little distress. They tend to go, commit suicide, become very depressive. But Krishna says very clearly you learn to tolerate them without being disturbed. That's.
You can see in Guru Maharajali Kanbos.
That tolerating is one thing but tolerating without being disturbed is another thing.
Yes, Saisuantadu hundu vishya adre disturbed. Saisuantadu is Doda Vishay.
Like most of us, when we face some difficulties, we tolerate and tolerate. When we fail to tolerate, then what we do, we go and tell others become very disturbed. Then we become very depressive.
Now.
But if you see in Guru Maharaj, he tolerates and he is not disturbed about all this. And on top of that he inspires others.
Disturbing.
Because he is experiencing the eternal bliss from within. If you see materialistic people, they inspire other people from their external appearance. A big sportsman or probably the most beautiful lady in the world. They use the external appearance and external strength or external ability to inspire other people to follow them.
Yes, sportsman.
But as soon as they face some difficulties, you'll see them. Even they themselves become very depressive. You can see Bollywood big, big celebrities hang themselves, right? Many people follow them. But at the end you will see them. They are not able to sustain any depression distress in their life. But devotees, here is what Krishna teaches how to survive all these difficulties.
Krishna Bhagavad.
So here is a good example that Guru Maharaj himself showing a practical example, despite all difficulties, he is enjoying the bliss inside by serving Krishna by engaging himself in devotional service.
Yes.
So if we keep engaging ourselves in devotional service then we can also enjoy the same bliss within us. The world is set in such a way that people go all around the world looking for happiness, spending millions and millions of money, searching for different, different kind of happiness. But despite spending millions and millions of dollars or rupees, still people are not able to experience that eternal bliss. But that eternal bliss is just sitting within you. The entertainment world out there which is set, it's a trillion dollars industry. What is set in the around the.
World entertainment Madhavanta Vishwadali trillion dollar asset.
But Bhagavad Gita teaches us don't spend any money but simply by engaging in devotional service. And instead of turning out there in the world, you turn within. You go within. When you manage to tap, connect yourself to that bliss within you, then despite any kind of difficulties that may come and harm you, you will remain undisturbed. This is the secret taught by Lord Krishna and Bhagavad Gita. And we are seeing that as a very practical example in the lifestyle of Guru Maharaj. I will share some nice stories. How despite all the difficulties, he keeps himself always in bliss. On August 15, 2018, that is the day when he was taken into the.
Operation theater for a liver and kidney transplantation.
This was about five years ago. And that morning the doctor said the chances of him to remain alive after.
The surgery is 50, 50 50, which.
Means you go in after the transplant, you may be alive, you may survive, or you may die on the table itself. That was his condition. Yet that morning despite, I mean just before taking him into the theatre, so a team of doctors came, they were explaining to Guru Maharaj all these procedures and they were explaining to him and they said 50 50. And then they took his signature down. But anyone who would have been in his condition, they may get disturbed because you know, your life is like 50 50. You may come out alive or you may not be, you know, you may not stay alive. But even after hearing all this from the doctors, he remained undisturbed. He was talking to us like normal, as if like nothing is happening. And then he was joking around with us. And then 10 minutes before he was taken into the theaters, he told us call his holiness Gopal Krishna Maharaj, his.
Oldness, Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj.
And he was discussing about a managerial aspect of a particular temple in South India.
South India.
So who would do this kind of things that you were just been told that your life is going to be 50 50. And without bothering that you are talking about how to make ISKCON a better place. So for him he always considers that ISKCON is more than his own life. Because Srila Prabhupada, he has said that ISKCON is its own like his own body. So he gave more importance to Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada'S body, more than his own body, his own life. And I'll tell you another nice, these are all true stories which we personally directly witnessed. You can ask all the servants Five days after the transplant was done, he was in the icu. And then for the first two, three days, none of us were allowed. And he was also in a very deep state of like a, you know what you call that sedation. So he was not like a communicative. So nobody was even allowed to go near him. And after the sedation slowly depleted, then he came back to consciousness. And then he started asking about the devotees. Where are the devotees? And then myself and another DOD, Dr. Achary Ratna, both of us, we went inside the ICU. And as soon as we went in, we saw like Gurmaj was like he was lying down on the bed with nine different kind of tubes all over his body. Because it was a very major surgery, 12 hours of surgery. He added one tube here, another tube here, another tube here, like that, nine different tubes. We counted. And he was still taking the support of ventilator. He had a tube inside his mouth. And then he was trying to communicate with us something. And since he had this tube in his mouth, he was not able to speak. So he was trying to say something. And we were not able to understand what he was trying to say. And then we had this practice before in many hospital instances. So quickly we wrote the alphabeticals on a big piece of paper and also numbers 0 to, I mean 1 to 10. So we had this alphabetical chart on a big piece of paper written. And we showed him. So then he started pointing to each and every letter. So one by one, one by one, like that. It went on for almost 15, 20 minutes. And finally he made a sentence. Imagine what could be that anyone can guess. He said that the sentence was, please teach the nurse to Chan Hare Krishna. There was a nurse who was attending to him.
Imagine this was just four days after a major transplantation.
And you are connected with all nine different kind of tubes all over your body. Just came out of a deep sedation.
In the just bandaraste.
And with so much of pain, excruciating pain. After the transplant, big cut like this, you know, with this kind of situation, he took so much of trouble. Even of not being able to speak, still took so much of trouble. In order to teach a person how to chant Hare Krishna. That nurse, completely unknown to Guru Maharaj, nurse. But he took so much of trouble for her just to give her ka consciousness. Why he is doing so? Even he himself was struggling to survive. But he took care of you. He wants to care for another soul. He wants to give Krishna to another person. That's the real caring. All about that you give ka consciousness, you give care to even a person who is completely unknown to you.
Complete.
And then we started like, you know, teaching her the Hare Krishna mantra. And then after 10 minutes, then there were two nurse, male nurses. And they told us that we wanted to shift him. I mean, they wanted to shift Kurmaraj from the bed to a wheelchair. They wanted to make him to sit down. And with so much of end our difficulties, we made him to sit.
There.
Then with so much of difficulties, we made him to sit on his wheelchair for the first time. And then he said that I wanted to chant Gayatri. And then he started looking for his Gayatri thread. But there was no Gayatri thread because take cut that off because of the.
Surgery operation.
Because there were so many lines, you know, you will have all these machines mounted all around your body and the nine tubes. So he was like literally hooked up actually with all kind of machines. So. And the Gayatri thread was not there. And he sat down, he said, no Gayatri thread, no problem. Then he just covered his hand and then he mentally chanted the mantras without Gayatri thread. So as I said, no excuse for not chanting your Gayatri. No excuse for not chanting your rounds.
Gayatri Manal, the chanting Mandalika, despite all.
These difficulties, life threatening situations, he always somehow completes its round chanting Gayatris somehow try to perform your sadhana sincerely. So these are the things which we can learn from Guru Maharaj. These are the things which we can try to follow in their footsteps. So what makes him, what makes him to be like this despite all the difficulties that he faces? One time we were in Mumbai, Guru Maharaj gave an evening class.
Guru Maharaj.
And one youth boy asked Guru Maharaj, that Swamiji, that we see you, you have so much of difficulties. But despite all this, what is actually making you to be so enthusiastic and that you keep doing what you were doing before? He said, yes, no, sorry. The question was, he said, we see you suffering. This is what the exact question was. We see you suffering, but yet you are still very enthusiastic and keep doing what you were doing before. And Guru Maharaj replied, actually he was silent for a while. And then he replied, yes, I am suffering, but I am very happy within me. Externally, physically, yes, he is suffering, but internally he is very blissful. And then he was quiet for some time. And then he said, I am indebted to my Guru Srila Prabhupada.
Guru Srila Prabhupada.
Srila Prabhupada. He has suffered so much for all of us. Srila Prabhupada. He went through unlimited amount of suffering just to give Krishna consciousness to all of us. Then he said, so I am indebted to Srila Prabhupada and I wanted to pay him back. This is what he replied. So when by performing devotional service and by experiencing the bliss within us, this can actually make all the suffering that we are going through, all the challenges that we are facing become very insignificant.
Bhakti sevya, Marta Iruvaga.
That's the power of the bliss that you experience within yourself. All the other happinesses, that flickering happinesses that we see outside or we try to go and hunt for those flickering temporary happinesses. They cannot overcome or beat any of these problems and challenges. That's why many, many people, they get cheated when they think that when they have problem, let me go to the pub, let me go to the cinema, let me go here, let me go.
There to keep myself happy.
But they go, they may experience so called happiness. The moment they come out of that again, the same distress will come and haunt them. But the experience that you, the bliss that you experience within yourself, that spiritual bliss that remains forever and that can defeat all kind of material distress, depression and everything. I'll tell you another story. Once this was in Probably June or July 2015, we were in. Guru Maharaj was in an ICU in at ILBS Hospital in Delhi.
ILBS Hospital.
And he had a severe lung infection and he was not able to breathe. And he was put on a ventilator. And he was like, this was probably like after two weeks being in the ICU then he was slowly recovering but he was still with the support of BiPAP, the ventilator, sorry, not by ventilator. And he was still not able to speak because of the tube within the mouth. And then just next to him there was another patient because it was a common ICU ward. So next to him there was another patient. And that patient was like most of the time he was in a very critical condition. And then one day we were, myself and many other few other servants. We were in the cafeteria of the hospital on the ground floor.
Ground floor.
And then we received a call from the servant who was attending to Guru Maharaj in the icu. And he called us, he said Guru Maharaj wanted Bhagavad Gita, some holy articles like dust from Vrindavan, some granges water to be immediately brought to the icu. Because, you know, because he was in the hospital and Naturally, devotees brought all these kind of auspicious articles from Vrindavan Mayapur. So we had them with us in stock. So immediately we rushed them to the icu.
Now.
And then in the ICU he told the servants who brought them go and read Bhagavad Gita to the patient next to me. And he also wanted all this Ganges water to be sprinkled on him. You know, Vrindavan does to be applied on his forehead. Because just like few minutes before we received a call the doctor they informed that the patient is about to leave his body. So immediately Guru Mahaj when he, you know, heard that because you know, just next to him all the doctors were trying to save him. So he inquired, he came to know about this. So then he called us. So he wanted to actually save the person person's soul. So despite he himself was in a very critical condition, was taking a support of a ventilator to breathe. He himself was fighting for his life. But even in that condition he was still thinking about how to save another person who is completely unknown to him, doesn't even know his name. So this is called real care. You give the care even if you don't know the person. You don't know anything about the person. But still to give Ka consciousness you don't see any caste, creed, color, anything that's real care and the spirit within the enthusiasm. Because he is so blissful within himself. Therefore he despite being in that critical condition, he wants to give Krishna to others and preach about Krishna to others. So these are the few little stories which I wanted to share. So that we all can also try to follow in his footsteps. And never fail to take association of elevated devotee Sadhus. Because by this association we will get inspired and will get purified.
Sangavan Madhavantadu Now Antavara Shuddha Bhaktar Sangha Madhave.
So I'll stop here because we have Guru Maharaj coming in now. Hare Krishna.
Guru Maharaj Bharta is Hare. Hare Krishna.
