20241123 Consideration of the Relationship Between Secondary and Primary Regulations part 3

Recorded talk (Nov 23, 2024) by Jaya Pataka Swami and others addressing the nature and practice of Bhakti-yoga. Core doctrinal points: knowledge (jnana) and renunciation (vairagya) are not intrinsic limbs of devotion and can harden the heart; Bhakti alone is sufficient and accomplishes goals of other practices. The talk enumerates five primary limbs of devotion (service of the deity, tasting rasa with rasika devotees, association with advanced devotees, congregational chanting, and residing in Vrindavan/Braj), outlines rules (bidhi) and prohibitions (nisheda), and describes progressive stages of practice from faith (shraddha) to taste (ruci) and on toward ecstatic love (prema), noting nine varieties/levels of prema. The chunk also includes pastoral notes: chanting practice, book-distribution reports, a quoted Srila Prabhupada letter (Apr 16, 1970) urging Back to Godhead distribution, and community announcements (visiting devotees, upcoming surgery).
Namaste.
Hare Krishna. So we will continue tonight with Chaitanya Shiksham Brita the continuation from yesterday. So knowledge and renunciation are not limbs of devotion. Knowledge and renunciation are not the limbs of devotion as they harden the heart and become opposed to devotion before entering into devotion. In some instances they make it suitable for practice. In some cases they are slight assistance in the initial stage of a person who has entered into devotion.
No from Rad is that renunciation has a nice hard heart.
So Srila Prabhupada mentioned that renunciation will make the heart heart, heart, heart, heart, heart, heart.
Like Prabhupada he didn't really did austerities like Prabhupada.
He didn't, you know, do us austerities.
Prabhupada didn't do austerities.
He said Prabhupada didn't give us austerities and the four regulative principles and so on were the maximum austerities.
Hidden in a very hard way.
So even within the devotional service, like for example Ekadasi fasting, he didn't give a hard, you know, way to do it.
Grains, cereals, pulses.
He said don't take grains, Cereals and pulses, Cereals and pulses.
But some of the house all day slept all night.
Like for example some of the Ekadasi fast. You're supposed to fast completely stay awake the whole night. But Prabhupada didn't tell us to do that. So we bacteria some note bacteria Sambrita Sindhu 12248-253. Gana and Bairagia are suitable for entering Bhakti, being somewhat useful in the beginning of bhakti. But they are not considered Angus of Bhakti because Jnana and Bairagya generally make the heart harsh. The authoritative devotees have concluded that Bhakti alone, whose nature is very tender, is the cause of entering into Bhakti. However, the goals of Jnanam, Bairagya and other process are indeed achieved by Bhakti alone. And everything that can be achieved by fruitive activities, penance, knowledge, detachment, mystic yoga, charity, religious duties and all other means of perfection of perfecting life is easily achieved by my devotee through loving service unto me. If somehow or other my devotee desires promotion to heaven, liberation or residence in my above, he easily achieved such benedictions. The relationship of devotion with knowledge and renunciation will be shown separately.
So Bhakti is complete in itself.
So Bhakti is complete itself, does not need vairagya.
And.
So there is no need for Bairagyangyana.
Devotees naturally have Bairagyana but the devotees.
Naturally have Bairagyang Jnana.
There was one devotee who had one visitor. She had been doing mystic yoga for seven years.
Devotee visitor she was have been doing mystic yoga for 1015 years and.
Aya. She walked together and was amazed at the roots she was receiving in a couple of weeks was more than she received for many years in Nizigilla.
So she came to Mayapur and she started practicing devotional service and she was amazed at the fruits that she received by doing devotional service were like much more not comparable with what she was doing and receiving by practicing mystic yoga for multiple years. 5. Primary limbs of Devotional Service In Sri Haribhakti Villas Many limbs of Bhairavakti are discussed in Bhakti Sandharva. Those limbs are beautifully incorporated into the nine kinds of devotion. In Sri Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu 64 limbs of Baidi Bhakti are presented. Among them five limbs are considered principal. Those five limbs 1. Love for the service of the deity Priti Sri murtar angri sevani 2. Tasting the meaning of Rmad Bhavatan in association with Rasika devotees Srimad Bhagavatar Tanam asvador Rashika Saha 3. Association with devotees who are more advanced than oneself and who are endowed with a similar type of affection for the Lord. 4. Congregationally Chant the Holy name of the Lord chanting the holy Name Namasankirtan and 5th residing in Vrindavan Braja Bas Asadaka Prada practitioner should especially cherish the limb of devotion in which he has the most taste. It is important to be cautious not to develop aversion towards other limbs just because there is a taste for a particular limb. Rule Bidhi and Prohibition Nisheda when considering the primary aspect of Bhaide Bhakti, two points should be acknowledged. 1. The living entity should always remember Bhagavan. That which is conducive to remembering him is the rule Bidhi for the sadhaka. 2. Forgetting Bhagavan is the living entity's misfortune. That which is opposed to remembering him is the prohibition isheda. So.
These first five rules were the things I don't want to advance Bhakti Yoga.
So the first five rules are the things that help us to advance in Bhakti Yoga. He.
Was encouraging us to do all these things.
Srila Prabhupada he was encouraging us to do all these things. Chanting.
Devotion very much recommended doing all.
The five limbs of devotion is very much recommended. And.
Some people remember the Lord by these things. And.
So some people remember the Lord by doing these five things. And that's the rule.
That'S said, that is written. So.
But if somebody forget Krishna, that in a sense is forbidden.
How is it not different than Vrindavan?
So living in Vrindavan Navadip is not different than living in Vrindavan.
Lives in some temple or that is like living in the town.
Like if somebody is living in some temple, it's like living in the dam.
You should see higher arrow.
So like that we should see how you are able to practice these five things.
All the deities are living in Sri Lanka.
So all the devotees who are living in Sri Dam Mayapur, they are also living in the dam. If you read the Srimad Bhattan, you will get some special realization. And it's good having loved to see the deities.
That's one of the recommendations.
That's one of the recommendations. So we have Panchatatwa, we have Radha Madhavas Tasaki, we have Prahlad Narasimha.
And then associate with advanced devotees.
And those who want to advance, they need to associate with advanced devotees. Did you understand? Okay, so we spoke about Bidi and Nisheda. So keeping these two primary rules in mind, Sadhakas, while rejecting nyamagraha, practicing the scriptural rules and regulations only for the sake of following them and not for the sake of a spiritual advancement, or rejecting the rules and regulations of the scriptures and working independently or whimsically can abandon a strict adherence to rules at times and follows them at other times. Three types of Baidi bhaktas the practitioners of bhaidhi bhakti are the true sadhakas. They have three stages. Stage number one, a sadhaka with faith, Shraddhavam Sadhaka. Stage number two, a sadhaka with firm determination, nice thicker sadhaka. And three, a sadhaka with taste, Ruchiyukta Sadhaka, the sadhaka with faith, take shelter of the feet of their guru with faith, receive initiation and perform devotional activities in the association of saintly persons. By performing devotional activities in the association of saints, their unwanted obstacles are removed.
So this association with more advanced devotees is recommended.
So this association with more advanced devotees is recommended.
And result is that one's taste for the rosulence herbs has increased.
And the result of that is that one taste, one taste for devotional service increase.
Also mistakes. Receive initiation and practice very diligently.
We see that in this stage you receive initiation and practice. Practice diligently.
And what is that called?
An artery remove and all their unwanted obstacles in an arterial stage are removed. Note From Srimad Bhatan 27:46 Surrender souls even from groups leading sinful lives, such as womans, the labor class, the mountaineers, the Siberians, or even the birds and bees, can also known about the science of Godhead and become liberated from the clutches of the illusory energy by surrender, by surrendering unto the pure devotees of the Lord and by following in their footsteps in devotional service. There is a verse in the second canto of the Srimad Bhavatam how people.
From different cultures, like Greeks, Kazodes, various various cultures, they practice erosional service. They can be terrified.
So there is a verse in the Shimad Bath and second canto that explains how these people from different cultures Anastasias. If they practice devotional service, they can be purified.
It's not that anyone is disqualified.
It's not that anyone is disqualified.
Everyone elders, huh?
Everyone. By taking shelter by Guru Krishna is qualified. When the unwanted habits anartas are removed, faith Shraddha becomes purified and transforms into steadfastness. Nishta steed fatness gradually transform into eagerness. And it's known as taste Ruchi. Up to this point is the progress in Sadhana Bhakti. Taste ruchi transforms into attachment, a shakti and gradually becomes static emotional stage. Baba. This will be explained elsewhere.
I think yesterday I was explaining these steps.
I think that yesterday I was explaining these steps.
The bodies gradually rise through these different steps.
And the bodies can gradually rise to these different steps, finally achieve.
I study the Rosha service and finally.
Achieve ecstatic devotional service. Baba. And then from there, from there, by the mercy of Krishna, one achieves prema. And also there are eight levels of Prema.
Levels.
At least we want to get you up to the preliminary levels, up to Baba.
On these steps.
So on these steps, Bhakti Natakur is.
Saying this will be explained elsewhere.
This will be explained elsewhere.
He really explaining all the things, very detailed systematic manner.
So he's explaining all these things in a very detailed systematic manner.
Other books hidden like the Jidadharma, like.
In the other books, even like in Jiva Dharma.
Apparently he had one quad via room and there was a lady guru teaching any students.
So apparently he goes to Arun and there was a lady, a guru teaching lady students.
That's another book.
That's another book.
So what Prabhupada wants what Prabhupada wants.
That everybody.
Educated in his books should.
Be very thoroughly educated in his books. So this book of Srila Bhaktuna Thakur.
Teaching the steps on the initial stages.
Was teaching the steps in the initial stages.
And when China.
So we shall understand what Sadhana Bhakti is And. And you say Sadhana Bhakti and Karma. Karma.
We don't want to do Karma. We want to do so we don't.
Want to do Karma. We want to do Sadhana Bhakti.
That gradually increases and becomes a static emotional stage Baba.
So that will gradually increase and becomes static emotional stage Baba.
So here I'm reading varieties of Primavacti.
So here we're reading the varieties of Pramavakti. The nine varieties of Primacti. Okay. The nine varieties of Primavacti are Rati, Prema, Sneha, Mana, Pranaya Raga, Anuraga Baba and Mahabhava Attraction. Mahabhava Attraction, love, affection, adverse feelings, intimacy, attachment, self attachment, static love and sublime static love. For the word Sadhana Bhakti there is only one meaning. The execution of devotional service according to regulative principles. Warm up a little bit. So I want to teach you how to chant. Let's chant Hare Krishna in Spanish.
English.
English.
Do you know Hare Krishna Mantra in English? Which other language we did today? Telugu. Telugu. Telugu. He requested Bengali.
So I hope you come out to the father and then the.
So we hope that you reach the stage of Baba and then the different levels of Prema.
Krishna. Guru Maharaj, there are 48 devotees came from Guwahati. They are going back tomorrow. They came as part of Vrindavan Safari and also welcome devotees from USA who come with Shraddha Mataji. Yeah, we can chant Hare Krishna and Assamis. Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hari. Welcome all the wonderful Guru Mahraj Virtual book table theories.
So.
Srila Prabhupada wrote to guru Dasa on April 16, 1970. Look at this pastime. Back to Godhead is my life and soul. Prabhupada says please therefore try to distribute as many BTG as possible. I started this magazine in 1947 in my householder life. I was spending Rupees 300 to 400 at that time which is $300 to $400 in US. And I was distributing this magazine without any consideration of how much I was getting in return. Practically the whole money was spent without any return. But ten years after, from 1954 to 1959 the struggle was very hard because at that time I had no money and I was alone editing, publishing and securing money for publication. So it was a great struggle. My ambition was that I would publish back to God in huge quantity so that people may understand the transcendental blessings of Lord Chaitanya. Now since I have come to your country, I have entrusted the matter to my beloved American boys and girls and I wish to see that this magazine is published and distributed in America way like Reader's Digest, Life etc. Published in millions and distributed all over the world. Actually the position of BTG should be more important than any mundane magazine because it contains the quintessence of human necessities. Jaisarila Prabhupada so today we have rangaramadas from Andhra Pradesh, four bhagavad gita, tapashtas from Ahmedabad, 60 bhagavad gita and our Nriti Sevites, Bala Chandrachanna, Vinita Gandharvika, Devidasi Balavrinda 4 small book from Kasadesh we have Domini Mataji and her family. One Bhagavad Gita and 10 small book exactly one is to 10 ratio as Guru Maharaj requires it and dispels what Srila Prabhupada's instruction to Guru Maharaj in this regard. Thank you very much Mataji for such an encouragement and being a role model for the whole world. And she's doing it every day, every single day without fail. Gayatri Devidasi 1 Bhagavad Gita and Bang land you 1 Bhagavad Gita Srila Prabhupada Transcendental Book Distribution Also these devotees get a special Narasimha Puja in a few hours from now in Siddham Mayapur. All of you devotees also bless them by calling out Nitaiga Ranga. Thank you and please pause on this wonderful opportunity of participating in Guru Maharaj pastime in distributing Srila Prabhupada books. Even if it's a single bhagavad Gita and 10 small books, you can WhatsApp anytime to Guru Mahraj's virtual book table at + 919-434-760402. Stay tuned for tomorrow's Lord Chaitanya class and let's pray very intensely. Tomorrow Guru Maharaj is going to have a cataract of a surgery on his left eye. So let's pray special prayer for that surgery to be successful. Please join in the intense prayer. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama. Hooray. Hooray. Thank you very much. Of course, our prayers include for all those who are celebrating their anniversaries today for their well being and blissful Krishna consciousness. So, Vaishnavaranam. Yeah.
Let's see.
What is this plan?
