20241125 - Rāgānugā Bhakti Vicāra

A recorded lecture (Nov 25, 2024) by Jaya Pataka Swami and other speakers contrasting Baidi (vidhi/regulated) bhakti with Rāgānugā/Rāgatmika (spontaneous) bhakti. The talk cites Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu and Bhaktira-samṛta-sindhu to define qualifications and practices for Rāgānugā sādhanā, gives behavioral examples and anecdotes illustrating mature vs. immature raga, and closes with personal updates (cataract surgery) and a detailed book-distribution announcement encouraging devotees to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books.
Hare three.
Bichara, Baidi and Raganuga. We continue reading from Caitanya Sheik Shamrita. So far we have only discussed Bhaidhi Bhakti. Apart from Bhaidhi Bhakti there is another aspect of Sadhana Bhakti. It is called Raganuga Sadhana Bhakti. We have already mentioned that there are two ways of Please Hari. One kind of practice is derived from Rules bd. Another kind of practice Sorry. One kind of practice is derived from Rules Bd. Another kind of practice is derived from a spontaneous devotion raga. Here it is necessary to examine the tatvika differences between bidhi and raga. The devotional practice derived from a sense of duty and logical consideration of method for practicing devotion to the Lord are known as Baidi Bhakti. The rules established from a sense of duty are called by Thee. The inclination that arise naturally from natural taste, it is called raga. The natural overwhelming attachment to the desired object is known as raga. Note from bhaktira samrita sindhu 12272. You want me to continue with the note? When one becomes attached to the Supreme Personality of Godhead according to one's natural inclination to love him and is fully absorbed in thoughts into one's natural inclination to love him and is fully absorbed in thoughts of the Lord, that state is called transcendental attachment and devotional service. According to that attachment is called Ragadmika or spontaneous devotional service. The object towards which raga flows that object is the desired object. In the actions of Raga there is no need for judgment or undiscrimination of duty or non duty. Raga is the form of a perfected tendency. The raga that the soul of a materially born being originally had become perverted into bodily identification due to the false ego and has accepted material sensory object as the goal. For some the raga flows to flowers, some to food, some to drinks, some to intoxicants and some to cloth, some to buildings, some to women. These have obtained samsara to the living entities. Consequently the divine raga towards the Lord has become far away for the conditioned soul.
So.
So when we perform by the Bhakti.
We gradually increase our attachment to Krishna.
We gradually increase our attachment to Krishna raga and this is called raga.
So the holiest stage of Haram.
So the bodies in the stage of ragatmika are motivated by the attachment to Krishna. They have awakened their attachment to Krishna. Bidhi and raga are not opposite concepts. Bhakti in the form of raga has become rare for living entities. In such a situation, worship of the Lord after careful consideration of what is beneficial or detrimental is the only duty. From this disarrangement of what is beneficial or detrimental rules BD are born Bidhi rules should carefully search for the welfare of Raga. Rules are never the opposite of raga. In English, Bidhi is called rul rite, ritualism and raga is called free, spontaneous attachment. The Bidhi and raga are different concepts. In their pure state they hold the same potential purpose.
For the hollows.
The rules which the devotees follows in the Vidhi marg. These are natural rules to make us more naturally attached to Krishna.
I'm not horizontal level Raghatma actually understands what to do, what not to do.
So when one is in the level of Ragatmika when a devotees in that level naturally understand what to do or what not to do but both are leading one to Krishna. Pure vidhi assists raga. Pure rules assist raga. Pure raga is subservient to the rules that reflect the will of the Lord. For the Lord's perspective, the victory of rules is predominant. For living entities, the affection for Raga is important. The contradiction between raga and rules observed in the material world is only due to the unhealthy nature of raga.
It was.
So. BD is assessed once to perform Raga.
An honest practice of living art. The rules are always the same what pleases Krishna.
So when one is practicing the big the BD mark the rules are always the same and are meant to please Krishna. So.
One has to follow the biddies if they want to please.
So one has to follow the BDS if they want to please Krishna. Pura is follower of Bidi. What? When raga attains health, Bidhi after fulfilling their purpose are naturally withdrawn. Therefore, in a healthy state of raga is the most important for living entities. Shasta's improper raga is inferior. Proper raga is superior similar to the relationship of the medicine with the body. In the same way is the relationship of Vidhi with Raga. The function of raga is infinite but the function of Bidhi is to protect unmaintained raga. Mature raga does not depend on Bidhi. Pure raga to the Lord has no shelter other than the pure souls. Example those liberated from material bondage. Ragatmika and Raganuga Bhakti. Sorry, you want me to continue? Okay.
So.
So one of the rules of Vaidavakti within the temple is not to put your foot towards the deity.
Don't talk to someone Else talk, Don't.
Talk to someone else. Unrelated talk, unrelated talk.
These things follow.
And these things can be followed during the raga bhakti. So mature raga does not depend on bidi. It says here.
But one actually has Krishna naturally does what's leading to Krishna.
But if one naturally has attachment to Krishna, naturally does what is pleasing to Krishna.
So someone thinks he's spontaneous, that's improper. He's not really a spontaneous.
So if someone thinks that he's doing spontaneous service, that's not proper raga because it's immature. It's not pure raga.
We were first in South Calcutta and we visited some stories in the house.
So when we visited South Kolkata, we visit sun devotees in their house.
He was staying in place south.
We were staying in a place in South Calcutta.
We went to one gentleman's house.
We went to one gentleman's house.
His daughter during a pandemic. Krishna, Krishna, you're here.
And suddenly he start doing a pantomime like Krishna come. I said oh Krishna, Krishna, you are here.
Oh.
Krishna, give me here, give me ladoo. So the devotees, they didn't feel it was sincere. Some, some of them laugh left. Sorry. So when they gone, then also when they left the guy raga also left. So for some people, some people that's improper raga and proper raga is superior. Ragatmika Ragatmika and Ragnuga Bhakti, pure raga to the Lord is called Ragatmika Bhakti. Only pure souls as instruments of the Lord pastimes are eligible for Ragatmika Bhakti. While discussing about the Tattoagyan in the letters showers, it will be shown that no one except the resian of Braj is eligible for Ragatmika Bhakti. Herein in this shower we are only mentioning this. The residents of Braja offer Ragatmika Bhakti to Lord Sri Krishna when the conditioned souls develop greed to follow this kind of devotion of the Braja Vasis upon hearing from the scriptures, it is called Raganuga Bhakti. Note Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu 12291 the qualification for Raganua Bhakti is as follows. The person who is greedy for attaining for attaining Bab. Person who is greedy for attaining Baba. Sorry. Ababa, similar to the inhabitants of Braj who are fixed solely in Ragatmika Bhakti is qualified for Raganuga Bhakti. In this context, it is the journeying grid for the subject matter that acts as the stimulant for that devotion. Not the scriptural logic or Vidhi. That is a note. You want me to continue with the note? Okay. No. Bhaktira Samrita Sindhu 12292 when an advance realized devotee hears about the affairs of the devotees of Vrindavan in the mellows of Shanta Dasya, Sakya, Vatsalya Madhuriya, he becomes inclined. He becomes inclined in one of these ways and his intelligence becomes attracted. Indeed, he begins to covet that particular type of devotion. When such covetousness is awakened, one's intelligence no longer depends on the instruction of Shastra rebel scriptures or on logic and argument. When rules carefully strive to stimulate the devotion of the living entities using various means, but by fortune only greed stimulates that devotion. It cannot be called by the Bhakti. During Sadhana that devotion is called Raganua Bhakti. Therefore, there are two types of Sadhana Bhakti. Baidi Sadhana Bhakti and Raganuga Sadhana Bhakti. The description of Baidi Sadhana Bhakti has already been written. Now I'm writing about Raganuga Sadhana Bhakti. Can I finish this? So Bhakti attacker has already described Bd Marg. Now he's going to describe Raganuga.
Iran is really to achieve personal service.
When one is greedy to achieve a personal service to Krishna, they achieve Raganuga Bhakti.
However, not different.
So Mayapur is also non different from Vrindavan. So here it is possible to achieve Ragnuga Bhakti.
And someone is right here to please to serve the Lord. That's possible here.
If someone is very eager to please to serve the Lord. That is also possible here.
Two types.
So it is described here. There is two types of Sadhanavakti Baidi Sadhanavakti. Those who become greedy to attain the mood of those lovers of Krishna tasting Ragatmika Bhakti are qualified for Ragnuga Bhakti. Raghanuga Bhakti accepts all the limbs of Bhaidhi. Sadhana Bhakti Bhaidhi Bhaktas are stimulated by rules to accept those components. But Raganuga Bhakti practitioners are engaged in those activities by the Raganuga inclination. Note from bhakti rasamrita sindhu12293296 those qualified for Bhaidi Bhakti are dependent on the rules of scripture and favorable use of the logic. Until the appearance of Baba Bhakti, the devotee should always think of Krishna within himself and should choose a very Dear devotee who is a servitor of Krishna in Vrindavan, one should constantly engage in topics about that servitor and his loving relationship with Krishna and one should live in Vrindavan. If one is physically unable to go to Vrindavan, he should mentally live there. That Ban's devotee who is inclined to spontaneous love and service should follow the activities of a particular associate of Krishna's in Vrindavan. He shall execute service externally as a regulative devotee as well as internally from his self realized position. Thus, he should perform devotional service both externally and internally. The discriminating practitioners should accept the angas that were mentioned in Bhaidhi bhakti, such as hearing and chanting as angas of Raganuga Bhakti. The bodily activities, mental activities and social interactions are necessary for the maintaining the life of a conditioned soul. The efforts mentioned earlier to prevent one from becoming Bahir Mukta materialistic and to make one a practitioner of Bhakti are also necessary for the Raganua bhakti practitioners. The practice of Raganua Bhakti is internal. What mood should life accept during the time of Sadhana? If one does not necessarily accept all the aspects of Vaidi bhakti to make the internal practice suitable, life will either and prematurely or will turn to Bahir Mukta materialistic, thus diminishing the Raganua inclination. Especially without fully accepting the discussions about the Lord, internal practice can never be nourished and maintained. Even if the Raganua inclination is nourished, the elements like hearing and chanting should never be abandoned. However, just as in the life of a Vaidi devotee, the ethical Taisti religions culminates into taking one sorry, into taking on a somewhat different form. Similarly, in the life of a Raganuga devotee, the elements of body life transform to some extent and take on a somewhat different independent characteristic form. There are slight variations in the rules and in some places they undergo transformations. These changes are evident by seeing the behavior of such devotees. These transformations do not occur due to scriptural rules, but arise from the taste of the devotees. Therefore, definite examples cannot be given. Examples are only consistent in body matters. The same divisions and relational considerations that exist in Rgatmika Bhakti also exists in Raganuga Bhakti. The details will be described in the Bhakti Rasa Tantra. Writing in details here will lead to the fault of redundancy.
So one night, sir, so spontaneously.
So one may serve Krishna spontaneously.
I was. I forgot how camera said that because I was reading or something. He said I had this tendency of relationship with Israel.
I forgot how it came about. But Prabhupada told me when I was reading something, because I was reading something and Prabhupada told me that I have this tendency, this particular tendency on serving Krishna.
So this as like the serving Krishna is something that does actually.
So this active, this aspect of serving Krishna. One of these five primary RASAs is develops naturally.
So.
So they develop by Baidi Bhakti or by Ragnuga Bhakti.
Relationship with Vishnu.
So but by the Bhakti once develop the relation, the natural relationship with Krishna and then it develops into Raganuga Bhakti.
He said that he cannot stay idle.
So I can tell Prabhupada in his book he says that Raganua Bhakti cannot stay idol even for a minute. He has to do some devotional service.
Authority.
So here in Navadir Dham, the 9 process of Bhakti are explained in the by Radharani.
She is the most spontaneous attached to Krishna.
She is the most spontaneous attached to Krishna.
See.
And she made the nine islands of Navadweep. The first island is Shavanan. Then the next is Kirtana. Then Madhyamdeep is remembering. Then we go to Kolar Dip on the other side and Aldi. Six seasons are there present in temporarily. Climate has four seasons, but we have six seasons here. So then Ritu Dweep, Janu Dwip, Rudra Dwip. And in the center is Anthrod. So that's the nine process of devotional service that should not be given up.
Slightly different taste.
They have a slightly different taste. So therefore each example is slightly different.
Martin Tower said total examples.
So Bhakti Natakur says, therefore definite examples cannot be given.
Examples are only consistent.
Examples are only consistent in consideration with body matters. So like this he will explain more later.
Guru Mahraj is blessing all the assembled duties here and as well as online.
Yesterday. Yesterday.
Yesterday I had cataract surgery. Cataract removed.
But it will take a few days to go.
