20241128 - Bhāva-bhakti part2

This is a transcript of a November 28, 2024 YouTube discourse led by Jaya Pataka Swami with contributions from Guru Maharaj and others. The main doctrinal focus is on the stages of devotional love (bhakti) — especially Bhava and Rati — citing Bhakti Rasamruta Sindhu and Sri Chaitanya Shikshamrita. The speakers define Bhava as a ray of Prema that softens the heart, explain Rati as the subtle/indivisible seed of Prema, distinguish methods of attainment (vaidī/sādhana vs. rāga-nuga and prasāda/mercy), and give scriptural examples (Narada, Padma Purana). The session closes with devotional chanting, logistics about distributing Srila Prabhupada books, and community notes including a prayer request for Guru Maharaj's dialysis.
Ha.
Saitana.
Krishna Krishna Sri Chaitanya Mishwaram.
Okay, Hare Krishna. Dear devotees, today we will be continuing with our reading from Sri Chaitanya Shikshamrita Vashila Sachitananda Bhakti Vinod Thakur Continuation from yesterday. As mentioned in Bhakti Rasamruta Sindhu purva Bhaga, chapter 3, verses 4 and 5, the stage of Bhakti is called that stage of Bhakti that is called Bhava whose essence is that excellent portion of Shuddha Sattva, the transcendental stage beyond the material modes of nature. By the process of executing regulated devotional service, one is actually elevated onto this. Onto this stage. Bhava is like a ray of sun of Prema and it softens the heart. One's heart becomes illuminated like the sun with its light. So.
When one's Prakti rises to the.
Different stages, when one's Bhakti rises through the different stages to the stage of Bhava, Ecstatic love for Krishna Suprema is like the sun and Bhava is like the ray of the sun. So this Baba or ecstasy softens the heart.
Softens the heart with its light.
Softens the heart with his light. We hope that all of you have reached the stage of Baba. The big task.
Thinking about Krishna Holiness.
Thinking about Krishna performing his devotional service, Thinking of his pastimes or chanting his holy names.
Or tears just swell up in the eyes.
So that's natural for tears to swell up in the eyes. Different symptoms like hair standing on end to manifest.
Who are not feeling this then maybe they have done offenses.
If one is not feeling this, then may then they have done offenses to some devotees.
Offenses. The offenses are listed above.
Listed above. Sorry Guru Maharaj. As mentioned in the Bakira Samruta Sindhu Purvabhaga 3rd wave 1.3.425 appearing in the mental functions that Rathi Bhava becomes the mental state itself. After the outward appearance of these ecstatic symptoms, they stay within the mind. Though Bhava is self manifested, it appears to become manifested in reality. Though it is essential nature of Bhava is taste itself. It also acts as a cause of taste in the pastimes of Krishna and his associates.
So how long appears one feels ecstatic emotions?
When Baba appears one feels ecstatic emotions. But they can imagine where they are from.
Something that's affecting the atma.
There's something that affecting the atma and it comes out as symptoms in the body.
So what is.
So the devotees should gradually advance and Reach the stage of Bhava, Bhava and Prema or.
Like a silver coin.
Since somewhere Baba is described like a silver coin and Prema is like a gold coin.
Hide our emotions.
Since we usually try to hide our emotions, he may not be understood by others in what stage we are on. Bhava and Prema or Radhi Baba manifests in the mental disposition and gains the nature of the mental disposition itself. In essence, Bhava is self manifested, but appearing in the mind. It appears to have been manifested in the mind. Here what is referred to as Bhava is also known by another name, Rati. Though rati is inherently in the form of taste, it is established as the cause of tasting subjects like Krishna. It is to be known here that rati is a specific state of spiritual substance. Not within any material substance. The material attachment of the conditioned soul to material object is merely a poet perversion of the spiritual Bhava in relation to matter. When the material is engaged in the service of the Lord. This Rati is a part of Samvit and becomes the cause of tasting all discussions related to the Lord at that time. In the part of Laadini, it personally bestows happiness. Rati is the form of seed for Kalpataru. Desire Tree of Prema.
Is explaining Taaliks, the esoteric meaning of Raji.
So Sachidananda Bhakti Vinod Thakur is explaining the esoteric part of Bhava. Esoteric meaning of Bhava and Rati and the Kalpataru of Prema.
Very interesting.
So it's very interesting.
And these topics, it's like if you don't realize it, then it's a promise. Things that happen in religion if you.
Don'T realize these topics, if you don't realize it, it's a promise that these things would happen in the future.
So how to have end devotees and prodigious life? And I feel these spontaneous.
Those who have been devotees in their previous life, they may feel these spontaneous emotions.
Those who are.
Always.
Recently in this life.
So those who have become devotees recently in this life, they may realize Baba later.
He wants only choice.
Lord Chaitanya. He wants everybody to experience these ecstatic emotions.
Someone might be very forced hanging a jail.
Someone might be focused on this material sense gratification. But material happiness is very temporary and transient in nature.
And one is advancing surgery life. And the Bhavarati ecstasies are like more permanent.
When one is advancing in spiritual life Bavarati these ecstasies are more prominent. The mind assumes these things. So we should be very eager to achieve this Ka conscious realization. Can we do tomorrow? Can we do tomorrow? Rati is the seat of the Kalpataru desired tree of Prema. When other forms come to aid Rati, then through the connection of Bhava, they manifest the tree of Prema. This will be shown with specific example during the discussion of Ratha Tattva. Vichar. Rati is the subtle essence of Prema. Rati is very subtle part of Prema beyond which there is no subtle part in terms of its intrinsic nature. Just as number one is one least subtle indivisible unit among or hundred small indivisible units in the number 100. Similarly, Rathi is an indivisible subtle part of Prema tattva. In Sadhana bhakti, the emotion like taste, ruchi, faith, Shraddha and attachment that were observed are specific fractions of rathi in the context of various aspects. There is no faith or taste in Sadhana, then the practice is completely futile. The faith and taste mentioned in the Varnasrama Dharma are indeed fractional parts of Rati. But they are perverted sentiments of this fractional part in life. Contrary to ethical norms, these fractional parts of vrati are highly distorted In a moral life they are somewhat regulated. In a life with God consciousness, they are more regulated yet still somewhat distorted. In the life of a Sadhana Bhakta there is no distortion but distinct due to being fractional parts, they are not whole number. When the life of a Bhava. When the life of Bhava arises, rati observed as one unit number. When Rati in its full unit state manifests, the life of the living entity is successful. The person who has attained Rati as a relationship, as a relation with the material world till the body is given up.
So there's although to reach Baba or.
Raji, it's our goal to reach Baba Orati.
If one's devotional service giving pleasure.
So if one's devotional service is giving pleasure, then it's a success story. All the previous pleasure that we were getting from devotional service may be a fraction of Bhava. Rati is one unit and Rati is one unit.
So if this Rati is manifest, then life of the Rati is a success.
If Vrati is manifest, then the life of the devotee is a success.
Relationship with the dead world is only there as long as in his body.
Then the person's relationship with the material world is only there as long as he lives in the body.
Any relationship where The Lord is finished.
So when he leaves the body, then any relationship with the body is finished. The distortion and the true nature of rati turning towards the material world is the distortion of Rati. Turning towards. Yes, yes. Turning towards the material world is the distortion of vritti. Okay. Turning towards the material world is the distortion of Vrati. Turning towards the Lord is its freedom from distortion. And it is the true nature. And its its true nature. Rati or bhava is of two types. Sadhana Abhinivesha Jab Bhava Bhava obtained by absorption in sadhana Prasadaja Bhava Bhava obtained by mercy Sadhana Abhiniveshaja Bhava is further divided into two types. 1. Vaidi Sadhana Abhiniveshaja Bhava Bhava obtained by absorption in Vaidi Sadhana Raganuga Sadhana Abhinivesha Jabhava Bhava obtained by absorption in Raganuga Sadhana. In the Bhakti Rasamruta Sindhu Purva Bhaga 3.7 to 8 it's mentioned due to the division between Vaidi sadhana and Raganuga sadhana, Bhava is said to be of two types. Now bhava that arises from absorption in sadhana will be discussed. Absorption in Sadhana Nishta produces ruchi, then Asakti attachment and then rati bhava for the Lord. It.
This is hands of that attraction. Material things as stunning rati.
So here it's mentioned that one's attraction to the material world is distorting their bhakti. When the rati is. When it's focused on Krishna.
Free from.
Distortion, then it's free from distortion.
That is the true nature.
That is the true nature.
Two types.
So rati Abhava is of two types.
Very straight, very strong sadhana.
A very strict very strong sadhana. One can develop bhakti.
And also.
One can also develop Baba by special mercy.
Sounds like you get a study the other degree. But then some people get honorary degree.
So you study, you get your degree. But some people, they don't study but they get the honorary degree fast. That is Rupanuga. That is so.
They are absorbed. Spontaneous falling in the ocean. That's untitled vow.
If you are absorbed in spontaneous devotion, that's one type of bhava so.
Very hollow.
So we may follow the sadhana bhakti. That's the normal way of awakening the Bhava.
Bhakti.
When one is serving in the Ragnuga bhakti, then one may also awaken the Bhava.
Why did you not talk about giving these things? This is tried and true.
Bhakti. So Bhakti Veenath Thakur has given the method. These are the two types of method to awaken one's power.
And so everyone has also wrote here.
So everyone is able to do Bhakti and they can get Baba by these two methods. One is Sadhana Bhakti Vidhi Bhakti and one ragnuga bhakti. It's 8:30 right now. I know. Since you are from the spiritual. Yes, guru. 8:30. Yes, yes, yes.
Yeah.
It appeared now 8:31. Due to the division between Vaidi Sadhana and Raganuga Sadhana, Baba is said to be two types. Now Bhava that arises from absorption in Sadhana will be discussed. Absorption in Sadhana Nishta produces Ruchi taste. Then Asakti attachment and then Rati Bhava for the Lord. Absorption in sadhana for Sadhaka with faith gradually generates a taste for Supreme Lord. This taste by continued absorption in Sadhana later gradually becomes attachment and ultimately matures into Rati. This is a gradual fruitification of Sadhana. The life of Sri Nrada is an example of due to Vaidhi Sadhana Abhiniveshacha Bhava Bhava generated because of the absorption in Sadhana. The mood attained by the lady Raganuga Bhakta as described in the Padma Purana is an example of Raganuga Sadhana Abhiniveshaja Bhava Bhava obtained by absorption in Raganuga Sadhana. So one may awaken the Rati or Bhava by Sadhana Bhakti. Then through the steps of Nishta Ruchiya Sakti finally reaching Bhava.
One way do the Raganuga Sadh.
And then one may do Raganuga Sadhana and get Rati Baba of the second. Yes, I read that. I read that.
Sure?
Yes, I'm sure. If you want me to read it again, I can do that. Do you remember about the life of Narada Muni? Yes. They're also requesting you. They also requesting you to take prasadam. I want Rati. I don't want prasad. Okay. Baba of the sec. Baba of the second type which arises from Raganuga Sadhana is illustrated in the Padma Purana. A young girl fulfilling her heart's desire spent the whole night dancing with zeal out of love for the Lord Hari. Sorry. Please, Guru Maharaj. Next is Prasadaja.
That's all, Venus.
That's all. It's finished. Next it's Explanation. It's a long one. Because we finished the sadhana. Abhini Nimesha Ja Baba. And this is Prasadaja. One is through the Sadhana, this is by mercy. The second.
Oh no, it's not.
Yes, yes, yes. I want to see the sweets. Let's see the sweets. Okay. Meanwhile. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Prasada Jabhava Bhava obtained by mercy is of two types. Baba produced from the mercy of Lord Krishna. Bhava produced from the mercy of Krishna's devotee. Three type of Krishna's mercy. Krishna's mercy is of three types. Vachika, Verbal Alokadana, Glancing and her the heartfelt good wishes. Which one you won? They won all of them? Yeah. Prasadam for all of you. Haribur, today let's chant Hare Krishna in Chinese.
Hare Krishna.
Hare Krishna. Krishna Krishna.
