20250110 || Śrī Caitanya-śikṣāmṛta Class || Śrī Māyāpur, India #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

Recorded class by His Holiness Jaya Pataka Swami Maharaj (January 10, 2025, Śrī Māyāpur). The lecture reads from Śrī Chaitanya-śikṣāmṛta (quoting Śrī Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu) and explains types of rati (devotional attachment): flickering/reflected rati from association with devotees, material/Jada rati, false/duplicious rati, and the development toward śuddha-rati (pure devotion). The speaker cites Bhagavad Gita passages to show that worship of other deities may ultimately reach Krishna imperfectly, and uses anecdotes (chanting on Srila Prabhupada’s beads, public displays of emotion) to distinguish genuine ecstatic devotion from artificial or material mimicry. The tone is didactic, devotional, and conversational, with questions/comments from attendees interleaved.

Hare Krishna Dear devotees, Today we will Hare Krishna Dear devotees, Today we'll continue with Today we will continue with the reading from Sri Chaitanya Sikshamrita by Slashidananda Bhakti Vinod Thakur as mentioned in Sri Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu 1.3.4 7.48Through occasional association with genuine devotees, this reflection of of the moon like Bhava appears in the hearts of some persons who are attached to enjoyment or liberation but who have become somewhat satisfied by following the angas of bhakti such as chanting. The actual moon like Bhava is situated in the sky of a real devotee's heart and it rises as a reflection in the non devotee by the potency of the association with that real devotee. Srila Prabhupada's translation of this verse Sometimes it is found that a person actually attached to material enjoyment or salvation has the good fortune to associate with pure devotees while they are engaged in chanting the holy name of the Lord. By the good grace of the Lord, one may also cooperate and join in the chanting at that time simply by the association of such pure devotee. The moon like rays from their hearts, their hearts reflects sorry reflect on him and by the influence of the pure devotees, he may show some likeness of attachment caused by inquisitiveness. But this is very flickering.
Desire chanting associated for a new person.
Just like chanting an association with pure devotees just by doing so sometimes may awaken shadow attachment. Rati. It's very flickering. I come and go, it would come and go.
But it gives one a little glimpse of what's ahead.
So it gives one a glimpse of what's ahead so that they would keep up with devotional service.
And this souls of potency.
So this shows the potency of chanting, associating with pure devotees and associating with pure devotees. So such a person may get some kind of a shadow rati or a virgin rati or reflective rati.
One keeps on chanting and I turn into real rati.
But if one keeps on chanting, that may turn into real rati, okay, or continuing from continuing with the reading. Or it could be transformation of Jada Ratti material rati. In some cases it might be Kapot rati, duplicious rati where the support Ashaya of Rati who is the living entity, considers himself impermanent and the subject Vishaya, the supreme Lord is Nirvi seisha without attributes, meaning devoid of form. The worshipper's rati is therefore impermanent, conditional and duplicious material or in the form of reflection by certain circumstances, whether by understanding of the Acharya's intention or by attaining love taste. If any of the previously mentioned five types of worshippers develop the understanding that they are worshiped, they are worshipped deities, is eternal and that they are the eternal servants of that deity, then a partial manifestation of Shuddharathi pure rati occurs. The rati of worshippers of Vishnu, Shiva Ganesha becoming directed toward consciousness, it gradually culminates in Krishna, Sri Krishna, sorry, the meditation on sun by Surya Upasakas, worshippers of Sun. Gradually this rati takes shelter in Sri Narayana within the sun, the Rati of Prakriti nature worshippers progresses from thinking of energy to ultimately this rati takes shelter of the supreme Lord as the source of that energy. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna has said that those who worship other deities, while neglecting some aspects of proper method of worship, are actually worshipping me indirectly.
So sometimes rati which are not permanent.
So there are different. So there are different kinds of rati which are not permanent, not the real thing. So some may be a partial effect.
Of Shuddharathi or some things may be Shara Rati versus Rati.
So some may be sharehrati duplicious rati.
Krishna understand that he's eternal, Atma is eternal. We are the servant of Krishna.
So gradually one focus on Krishna and understands that he is eternal. The atma is eternal and focuses on serving Krishna via his servant. Eternal servants. Sorry.
Then they start to realize real rati.
Then they start to realize real rati.
I was coming to the temple like one or two days.
I was coming to the temple for one or two days and.
Prabhupada secretary gave me some beads.
Prabhupada secretary gave me some beads and he said, you can chant on this.
And then I chanted like six hours.
And then I chanted for like six hours.
I chant on an hour.
I chanted like 32 rounds or more. I felt all kinds of spiritual bliss, tears in my eyes and different things. So when I came back to the temple, Prabhupada's secretary was Waiting for me. Oh, by mistake I gave you Srila Prabhupada's beads. I'm not supposed to give those to anybody. Please give them back.
So.
The next day I was chanting so next day I was chanting on an ordinary piece. It was not the same.
So somehow I got the beads of Srila Prabhupada.
So somehow I got the beads of Srila Prabhupada and that gave me a great ecstasy. Haribor as mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita 9.2232 Yoga Kshema Vaham miham but those Yoga kshema vaham miham it's too hot. Okay. But those who always worship me with exclusive devotion, meditating on my transcendental form, to them I carry what they lack and I preserve what they have. Yepi anya Devata bhakta Yajante Shraddha Yan vitah tepimaeva Kaunteya yajanti avidi purvaka avidipurvakam. Those who are devotees of other gods and who. And who worship them with faith actually worship only me, O son of Kunti. But they do so in a wrong way. Yanti Deva Vrata Devan putran Yanti Pitra vrataha Bhutani Yanti Bhuti Jya Yanti mamyat matyajino. Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods. Those who worship the ancestors go to the ancestors. Those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings. And those who worship me will live with me. So these are verses from Bhagavad Gita.
States how one can hellish.
So this states how can. How one.
How one.
Gurumai. What did you say? How one. This states how one.
If one worships other gods, if one.
Worships other gods.
They go to that place, they take birth amongst people.
So they go to that place and they take birth amongst that people.
When you worship other gods, you actually worship me.
Krishna is saying when you worship other gods, you actually worship me.
It's not the right way of worshiping Krishna.
That's not the right way of worshipping Krishna.
So how do you worship on Devas? You take birth among the devas.
So when you worship the Devas you take birth among the devas.
When you worship the pritis you take birth under the you take birth under the forefathers.
So when you take. When you worship the Pitris you take birth among the forefathers.
Cause the worship cause the spirits take birth amongst them.
So those who worship ghosts and spirits take birth among them. But those who worship Krishna will live with Krishna.
Who wants the words of Krishna so.
Who wants to worship Krishna?
Who wants to worship the ghost?
Who wants to worship ghosts and the spirits? Who wants to worship the demigods?
Who wants to worship.
So who wants to worship the pitris? Who wants to worship Krishna? They will ultimately reach me alone. The main principle is that due to certain impurities related to the support and the subject Vishaya of rati, the rati does not become complete. As the discussion on rati gradually progresses and rati is nourished, the support Aashaya and the subject Vishaya of rati become free from all impurities over many lifetimes. At that point, pure Ka bhakti becomes accessible to those living entity. Occasionally, association with sadhus is the nourishing factor of that rati in the world. There are numerous examples of Jada rati material rati observed in the lives of those addicted to intoxicants, involved with prostitutes, deeply attached to household life and focused on satisfying their bellies. When Laila dies, Majnu doesn't leave, doesn't leave. When Urvasi leaves, King Iayati loses his life. Romeo gives up his life for Juliet. There are many such exam. Many such examples can also be found in books. Are these not symptoms of ratti? What is this ratti? When the conscious living entity becomes bound by matter and identifies itself with matter, its inherent nature of Bhagavad rati becomes distorted. With Ashaya shelter, the living entity, abandoning the Vishaya subject in the form of supreme Lord, it extends its symptoms toward material objects, considering them as the Vishaya subject. The worship of the various demigods and demigoddesses by the monistic Saguna worshippers is all only material imagination. The action that is performed by material rati towards the subjects of material imagination, that action is also performed in relation to the imagined demigods and demigoddesses as well. Just as readers and listeners become sad or happy when they hear the joys and sorrows in Gulliver's novel and display signs of rati with sympathy, sympathy towards the imagined human characters, so too will the devotees display signs of rati when they remember the past times of imagined deities. What's surprising in this? An old woman, a listener of the Ramayana, became extremely agitated upon hearing about Rama's exile to the forest. When other listeners asked her the reason, she said, oh, one of my goats went into the forest and it never returned. Remembering that I cried upon hearing Rama's journey to the Forest. Consider this. Not all who cry in the name of worshipping the Lord exhibit Shuddharathi pure rati. Many of them display the effects of chadarathi material rati. This material rati in certain contexts is also a reflection of pure rati manifesting the signs of rati among worshippers of imagined demigods and brahmavadis. All four previously mentioned types of rati have potential for deceit. For instance, a wicked wife may display false material rati to dispel her husband's suspicion. Many cunning individuals exhibit signs of rati before imagined deities with the hope of hope of obtaining offerings, particularly goat meat. First demonstrating examples of deceitful rati, some people seeking the favor of the Acharya and recognition of the saintly community with the desire to get respect of the general populace and success of their undertakings. Like Karl and Amy to get honor in in grand festivals, accept duplicity in Bhagavad and display symptoms such as dance, sweat, horripillation, tears, rolling on the ground, trembling and occasionally even display the symptoms up to Baba. But there is no Sattvika Vikar in these hearts. In their hearts.
This reminds me of Shubhar's mother.
So this reminds me of Subak Swami's mother.
Symptoms of Vava.
When she came, she displayed all the symptoms of Baba. Rolling on the ground, Rolling on the ground, crying, crying.
My son should go home.
My son should come home.
This kind of false rati.
This is a kind of a false rati. Her childhood, her attachment towards her son.
Oh your son.
So Srila Prabhupada say, oh, your son can go. Really? Really, really.
If he wants to.
If he wants to.
Do you want to go with your.
Brother Prabhupada Ashu Bakswami, would you like to go with your mother?
He said stay here.
And he said, no, I want to stay here.
She was shocked.
She was shocked.
We're not holding them.
So Prabhupada said, we are not holding him. They go, they want, they can go if they want. We have so many devotees here.
We're not holding them, we are not holding them. Hands on all that is.
That's a big thing. So sometimes someone, they would do these things like dancing, sweating, horripulating, tearing, rolling on the ground, trembling and occasionally, even display the symptom. Up to Bhava.
There'S no sad change.
In their heart, but there is no.
Sattvika change in their hearties. Send them in the movies.
Sometimes the actors display the symptoms.
Crying, trembling, crying, trembling, rolling on the ground.
Rolling on the ground.
These are what Prabhupada reflections.
So this Vatsla Prabhupada called it perverted reflection.
Right? Naturally you know, this way, you know feel this.
Emotion very naturally. You can display or feel these emotions in real rati. Shuddha Rati.
It's not nobody cries, nobody dances Joy.
So it's not that nobody cries, nobody dances.
What is that? Material world they call that love.
In material world they call that love.
What? Sometimes they want divorce after Sometimes maybe.
They want divorce or want to feel.
How These natural ecstatic feelings for Krishna.
One should have these natural ecstatic feelings for Krishna. If you don't commit any offenses permanent, then it's permanent.
It goes higher and higher.
It even goes higher and higher. We would like so we would like so we would like people to awaken their real rati for Krishna. Radha Mahada of Panchatatva.
So these syndromes are there in the heart.
So these symptoms don't appear in the heart. Just a reflection.
Service. You can actually value these emotions for.
Krishna by devotional service. You can eventually awaken these emotions to Krishna. Okay, tomorrow back with them.
I had houses. I'm very tired.
Tomorrow.
