20250120- Second Stream — Analysis of the Gradual Rise of Prema part 2

Jaya Pataka Swami traces the six stages of divine love in Vaishnava practice, from eliminating unwanted habits through steadfastness, taste, attachment, and emotion, culminating in Prema. The talk draws on the Srimad Bhagavatam and Taittiriya Upanishad to map this gradual spiritual development.
Dear devotees, we are continuing from Sri Caitanya Shikshamrita by Sachidananda Bhakti Vinod Thakur Anarta Nivriti. The diminishing of all unwanted habits, attachment to material objects, sinful behavior, envy and greed are gradually diminished through the practice of devotion to Bhagavan, making the living entity devoid of greed. This is called the third stage in the form of Anarta Nivriti.
We want to get rid of all the bad habits.
So we want to get rid of.
All the bad habits by practicing Bhakti Yoga that happens automatically and by practicing.
Bhakti Yoga that happens automatically. So this after Bhajana Kriya, there's Anarta Nivriti. And.
This practice was able to reach a third step on achieving Krishna.
And so through this practice one is able to achieve the third step. Third step which to Krishna Prema. Yes. Third step number five. Nishta Firm faith. When one becomes free from greed near Loba, other attachments disappear. Faith Shraddha then transforms into steady fastness in devotion to the Lord Bhagavan Nishta. As long as Anartha's undesirable things remain, faith cannot be firmly established. As Anarthas, unwanted things are gradually eradicated. Shraddha faith gradually becomes Nishta steady fastness. Nishta steady fastness. Steadfastness. Sorry. Is the fourth step towards attaining Prema.
Bad habits. By getting rid of the bad habits, the undesirable things.
The undesirable things, then your.
Faith becomes firm.
Then your faith becomes firm.
This is a major progress.
And so this is a major progress.
Nishta steadfastness is a fourth step towards attaining Prema.
Nishta steadfastness is the fourth step towards attaining Prema. 6 Ruchi taste Nishta steadfastness has been achieved. Bhagavad Anushilana devotional practice is being carried out with greater care. Sadhu Sangha association with devotees is also being performed with more diligence. As these processes continue and Anartas are gradually destroyed, Nishta becomes more exuberant. This exuberant state of Nishta is called Ruchi taste. It's a note From Sriman Bhagavatam. First Canto Chapter 5, Text 25 Evam Pravritasya Vishuddha Chasas okay translation. Because being engaged in such activity, all sins were destroyed. I became purified in heart and I obtained taste. In the very nature of the transcendentalist translation of Bhakti Minotakur's Translation Prabhupada's translation Thus being engaged, I became purified in heart. And at that time the very nature of transcendentalist became attractive to me. Ruchi is the fifth stage. When taste Ruchi for Krishna develops distaste in everything else happens it. So we get advancement towards Prema step by step.
Next step is.
So after achieving Nishta, the next step is Ruchi as.
Taste.
That is taste for devotional service.
So but doing the same practices, but I mean with greater care.
It's interesting here we're doing the same practice, but it's being done with greater care.
And.
Whatever Anatos are still there, gradually destroyed.
And whatever anartas, they're still there, they get gradually destroyed.
The exhilarate stage.
The exuberant stage of Nishta is called Ruchi art. Taste, energy. Google says.
Full of energy, excitement and cheerfulness.
Exuberant means full of energy, excitement and cheerfulness.
It's the same devotional service.
It's the same devotional service, but it gets more exuberant.
How to chant our rounds, chant all the Aartis Pujas.
We have to chant our rounds, attend all the aartis and Pujas. Gradually we're getting more taste, doing everything with greater care.
As these processes continues.
It says as these processes continue, anartas are gradually destroyed.
They have become.
Less, they become less.
So there's any trace anartas those are destroyed.
But still if there's any trace of anartas, those are destroyed. So Nishta becomes more exuberant.
This is known as Ruchi or taste.
And this is known as Ruchi or taste. Ruchi is the fifth stage.
Everything else happens.
Taste Ruchi for Krishna develops distaste and everything else happens. 7. Ashakti attachment when ruchi taste becomes more intense and as anartas when ruchi taste becomes more intense and as anartas are further destroyed, it is called Ashakti Attachment. Up to Ashakti is the stage of Sadhana practice. Sadhana is completed, Asakti is fully attained. Then the Jiva living entity becomes successful Ashakti leading to the awakening of Prema. Love is the sixth stage. Note from Srimad Bhagavatam 1st Canto 5th Chapter Text 26th Translation O Vyasadev in that association and by the mercy of those great Vedantists, I could hear them describe the attractive activities of Lord Krishna. And thus listening attentively, my taste for hearing of the personality of Godhead increased at every step. It.
So steps.
So Bhakti Vinod Thakur has explained the steps until Prema Many times. Many times and in different ways is this.
He's explaining that we are gradually awakening Prema.
And in this way he's explaining that we're gradually awakening Prema. Love. Love.
Ashakti Next step so this Ashakti.
Is the next step.
He.
He was a son of a maid of servant.
So Narda Mooney he was the son of a maid servant.
He said great Bhaktivedantas, he served great Bhaktivedantas and he started advance his stars.
And he started to advance these steps. And he reached the stage of Baba. 8 bhava emotion or affection. When a shakti attachment becomes fully mature, it is called Bhava Rati or Preman Kurra, the sprout of love Preman Kura the sprout of love. A shakti is not yet of the pure Sattva nature. Bhava attains the nature of pure Sattva at this stage it produces tenderness in the heart. This is the seventh gradual stage leading to Prema Translation to the verse in the note. Thus during two seasons, the rainy season and autumn, I had the opportunity to hear these greats, souled sages constantly chant the unadulterated glories of the Lord Hari. As the flow of my devotional service began, the coverings of the modes of passion and ignorance vanished. Srimad Bhagavatam 1st Canto 5th Chapter Text 28 okay. As soon as translation to the next verse, as soon as irrevocable loving service is established in the heart, the effects of nature's modes of passion and ignorance, such as lust, desire and hankering disappear from the heart. Then the devotee is established in goodness and he becomes completely happy. Srimad Bhagavatam First Canto Chapter 2 Text 19 Raso vaisa rasam Hye vayam labdhvanandi Bhavati when one understands the personality of Godhead, the reservoir of pleasure Krishna, he actually becomes transcendentally blissful. Taitiriya Upanishad 2.7.1.
Highly reach.
So as we advance gradually, then finally we reach Bhava gradually.
I heard today impersonalists righteous.
I heard today some devotees said that the impersonalists who practice Bhakti yoga, they get symptoms of Bhava that attracts Krishna, that attracts Krishna.
But then they actually want to merge into the Brahma Jyoti.
But then they actually want to merge into the Brahma Jyoti.
This how do you catch with your line on your hook? You pull the hook out of the.
Fish like the fish you catch with the hook and Then you pull the hook out of the lip of the fish.
Like that you attract Krishna.
Like that you attract Krishna.
The hook.
Then you pull out the hook that causes Krishna great pain. And then you want to merge into the Brahma Jyoti. Who wants that? While practicing devotional service you can gradually reach the stage of Bhava.
Impersonal realization. You don't have to merge into the Brahma Jyoti.
But then if you're attached to the impersonal aspect of Ka, then you don't want to hear any more about Krishna. You just want to merge into the Brahma Jyoti.
And there's no suffering.
And then there's no suffering.
There's not real bliss.
But then there's not real bliss either.
So that is why the devotees are discharged. There's another one.
That's why the devotees are discouraged that we never want the Sahajiya Mukti or in person emerging.
Is right on.
The next topic is Prema.
Who wants Prema? You need to come tomorrow. They need to come tomorrow.
Good.
Blessing.
Blessing. Krishna Materas too. Do you want Prema balls?
Is he blessed than Guru Mah?
