20250226 Sri Caitanya-siksamrta Class

This is a transcript of a February 26, 2025 Sri Caitanya-siksamrta class led by Jaya Pataka Swami discussing devotional practice and the nature of the Holy Name. The talk explains classifications of devotees (Mati/Parakanistha, Madhya/Madhikari, Uttama/Paramadi), emphasizes the non-difference of Name, Deity, and qualities (citing Bhagavad Sandarbha and Bhakti Sandarbha), and describes how progressive practice (hearing, chanting, japa/ajapa) leads to realization where form, qualities and pastimes manifest. Practical instructions include recommended chanting habits (minimum 16 rounds, historical examples of 64 rounds or 300,000 names) and guidance on associating with advanced devotees.
Saday, we will continue with the reading.
From.
Semblance of the Holy Name Persons who perform Nama Bhajan are Madhya madhikaris from the very beginning because they are aware the nature of the Holy Name Nama Swaru. For them Namabas mostly doesn't happen. They are actually genuine Prema rukshas for Ka. Their religious conduct is that they have love for Ka, friendship with pure Vaishnavas, compassion towards Vaishnavas with tender faith and indifference towards those with small but misguided knowledge and maliciousness toward the Shrimvurti form of the Lord from the time from time to time the Kanishadhi Kali Vaishnava becomes very pitiable because they are unable to discern differences. So to preach one has to be.
On the Madhimadhikari platform to tell the difference between a devotee and a non devotee.
Sometimes, sometimes even the Buddha Madhi comes down to the Mati Madhi platform to.
Preach.
Can'T tell the difference so they are very pitiable. So these four kinds of devotees, four.
Kind of devotees are seen by the Matri Madhigari.
So they preach to the.
Innocent.
But they avoid the agony. Note From Srimad Bhagavatam 11:47 A devotee who faithfully engages in the worship of the deity in the temple but does not behave properly toward other devotees or people in general is called Prabhu Devata, a materialistic devotee and is considered to.
Be in the lowest position, Mati Madhikari who aspires for love of okay love who aspires for love for Krishna. Oh okay. Prema Rurukshu quickly becomes Prema ruda achieved love or an advanced devotee Uttama Bhakta through the threefold behavior towards three types of vaiavas as mentioned in the Bhagavatam, an intermediate or second class devotee called Madhya Madhikari offers its love to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is a sincere friend to all devotees of the Lord, shows mercy to ignorant people who are innocent and disregards those who are envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Bhagavatam 11.2.46 so this is the Kali of so this is the quality of a Madhya Madhikari. He can't discern the difference Parakanista Adhikari he can't discern the difference. But the Uttamadhikari sees everyone as a devotee of Ka. Paramati Madhikari is able to discern these differences so he's able to preach Nectar of instruction verse number 5 Krishneti Yesyagiritam Manasadriyeta Dikshas the Chet Pranati Bista Bhajanta Misham Shushrushuya Bhajana Vikyamananyamanya Nindadi Shunya Hrida Mipshita Sangalabhdya. One should mentally honor the devotee who chants the holy name of Lord Krishna. One should offer humble obeisances to the devotee who has undergone spiritual initiation Diksha and is engaged in worshipping the Deity. And one should associate with and faithfully serve that pure devotee who is advanced in undeviated devotional service and whose heart is completely devoid of the propensity to criticize others. Quoted from Nectar of Instruction Upadesh amrita text number 5. So who should be respected is mentioned here. So in Mayapur we have many devotees who chant the holy name of Lord Krishna. And also we have those who are initiated and are worshipping the deity. One should associate and faithfully serve that pure devotee.
Or consider advanced heart as devoid of the resonance to criticize others.
So here it's mentioned. One is advanced when their heart is devoid of the propensity to criticize others. So many people here tonight. Today I said tonight could be Madhya Madhikari Devotee is qualified person for giving association. Madhya Madhikari who aspires for love engages in chanting 300,000 names day and night. They derive so much joy from the names and that they cannot be without chanting. Since counting of the names is not done at the times of sleeping and so on. They eventually chant countless names. By contemplating the meaning of the names as taught by Sri Gopalguru Goswami. The impurities of human nature gradually subside and realization of the most joyful nature of the Holy Name happens. You see.
How much we got.
You see the happiness that we get through the body. Get through the body. That's sense gratification that comes and goes.
Right away from Kaoli names, harsh times, etc.
So the happiness that we get by serving Krishna from His holy names, from his pastimes, etc.
That is transcendental.
That is transcendental. So the devotee can be always happy by always chanting serving Krishna.
So the more that we are observed Krishna consciousness.
The more we are absorbed in Ka consciousness, the more spiritual happiness we get. So here it says Gopal Guru Goswami.
He was a young boy.
He was a young boy and he.
Was carrying a royal Chaitanya.
And he was carrying a bucket for Lord Caitanya when he went to the toilet.
So then when Lord Chaitanya came out.
So when Lord Chaitanya came out, he said you were chanting. You are chanting in a dirty place. No. What happen if you leave your body? So he said, you are my Guru Gopal Guru. So Gopal Guru apparently has given meanings of the different names. Srimad Bhagavad. Note from Sri Bhagavad. 8:12.
8:12.
Yeah.
8:25. 8:20.
So at 8:25 a doctor is going to see me from America through zoom to see how my skin cancer is.
Oh, you got time.
But we got time. Okay, note. Sri Bhagavad Sandarbha Anucheda 101. The truth that manifests before the eyes in the form of the Deity. That same truth in verbal form manifests as the Holy Name. Therefore by nature the non difference between the Name and the Name, the Deity realizing one the Name is realizing the other the Deity. When the nature of the Holy Name. So this is a quotation from Bhagavad Sandhar. So Sandarva taught by Shiva Goswami. So this is a part of it. When the nature of the Holy Name is clearly revealed, Krishna's spiritual form manifests in unity with the nature of the Holy Name. As much as the Holy Name manifests in pure form and Bhajan happens with the realization of the form. To that extent the modes of nature, goodness, passion and ignorance are dissipated in the mind leading to the manifestation of Shuddha Sattva, the transcendental qualities of Ka. The restaurant in Chennai's Hare Krishna temple is called Sudha Sattva. Banu Swami gave that name.
So there only they serve Prasadam or Sudha Satva.
So there they only serve Prasadam. That is Sudha Sattva. That's only Sudhisattva. The transcendental qualities of Krishna. To that extent the Bhajan is pure in the oneness of three Name, form and qualities. Then to that extent, by Krishna's mercy, Krishna's pastimes are manifested in pure consciousness through union with natural Samadhi Sahaja Samadhi Yoga. When chanting of the Holy Name by counting, without counting is done. O without counting is done. Then Krishna's form is seen with the mind's eye. Krishna's qualities are perceived in the heart and Krishna's pastimes come and manifest in the soul in Samadhi.
So while chanting, see the form of Krishna.
So when one is chanting, can see the form of Krishna?
Yes, Perceive the qualities in your heart.
Can perceive the qualities of Krishna in your heart. The pastime comes and Manifests in the soul when it is in Samadhi.
So sometimes people ask me, is it alright to think of Krishna's pastimes?
Sometimes people ask me, is it alright to think of Krishna's pastimes?
Past times come naturally.
But here it says the pastimes come naturally. Sri bhakti sandarbha anucheda 256. There are six sandarbas. One of them is bhakti sandarba. First, it's a quotation from the Sandarpa. First, hearing the name is required for the purification of the heart. Once the heart is purified, hearing about the form creates suitability for its manifestation. When the form is fully revealed, the qualities become manifest. Ultimately, when the name, form and qualities are fully realized, the pastimes manifest perfectly. With this intention, the sequence of Sadhana is hands written and it should be understood for Kirtan and Smaran. So when one is chanting Japa or chanting in Kirtan, the name, form qualities are realized and then the past times manifests perfectly.
So on this site I chanting the holy name Har Krishna on gradually, step by step realizes.
So in this way by chanting the holy name of Krishna, one gradually step by step realizes Krishna.
So that's why the holy name is so important.
So that's why the holy name is so important. So important.
The Lord is saying they have a hard time.
Some devotees say they have hard time to chant 16 round. Actually chanting and keeping track of the number is called Japa.
When they don't keep track of the number, it's a Jabba.
When they don't keep track of the number, it's called Ajapa.
So Al Japa.
So for advanced devotees the aajapa is said to be unlimited. But we usually keep track because we promised to chant. Sorry to chant 16 rounds every day.
300,000 names.
Bhakti Vinath Thakur Rather Haridas Thakur. He would chant 300,000 names every day. 100,000 names is 64 rounds.
So three times that.
So three, three times that.
So Prabhu he saw, heard from one of Prabhupada brothers that he told the rejoice.
I heard from one of Srila Prabhupada's God brothers. Srila Bhakti, Siddhanta, Saraswati Thakur. He told the pujaris to chant 1 lakh. But those who are going out preaching and distributing books, he told them to chant 16 rounds. Sir Prabhupada saw we were better for preaching not for chanting so many rounds.
So he said minimize 16 rounds.
So he said minimum 16 rounds and preach Hare Krishna. So I think we'll end here, Guru Maharaj. Okay. Please bless all of them. So tomorrow we will discuss about the five stages of a practitioner's journey. Okay. There is an important announcement. Just wait for a while. Whose birthday today? Janiki Prabhu is saying if you show the garland, everyone would say it's my birthday today. We have a special Krishna Matiras too.
