20260108 Śrī Caitanya-śīkṣāmṛta in Śrī Māyāpur, India #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

In this devotional class recorded on January 8 2026 in Mayapur, His Holiness Jayapataka Swami, assisted by a translator, expounds on passages from the Bhakti‑rasamṛta‑sindhu and Sri Caitanya‑śīkṣāmṛta that describe the various kinds of friends (sakhis) of Lord Krishna. He outlines the three broad categories of Krishna’s companions—eternal friends, demigods, and perfected devotees—and further subdivides them by temperament: counsel‑giving, joking, simple, argumentative, gentle, and others. The lecture highlights the distinct qualities of Krishna and his associates, emphasizing Krishna’s divine form, attributes, and his ability to understand all languages, including those of birds, beasts, and trees. Historical anecdotes about Krishna’s movements from Mathura to Dwaraka and back to Vrindavan illustrate the roles of different sakhis, especially the Braj‑vasi (city) friends versus the Purv‑vasi (outside) friends. The session also touches on linguistic capabilities of Lord Chaitanya, who spoke Bengali, Sanskrit, and other languages. Throughout, the teacher encourages devotion, explains terminology such as “Priya Saka” and “Narmasaka,” and invites participants to continue learning in future classes. The tone is reverent, instructional, and conversational, aiming to deepen the audience’s understanding of devotional relationships and the theological nuances of Krishna’s friendships.

Hariyam.
That's Hariyam Tatsar Hare Krishna. Dear devotees, today we will continue with our reading from Sri Chaitanya Shikshamrita, Bhairshula Sachidan and the Bhakti Vinodak. Okay, Okay, okay. We are discussing about Sakyasana quotation from Bhaktira Samrita Sindhu Ujjwala in particular is always eager to joke. Okay, there is another quote from Bhaktira Samrita Sindhu. There are three types of friends. Nitya Priya, Nithya Siddha, Sura Chara, demigods in past life and Sadhana Siddha. Among those fortunate boys, the steady ones worship Ka by acting like advisors. Others have a fickle nature and make Krishna laugh in the manner of jesters. Some worship him with their straightforward dealings. Yet others who are not straightforward astonish him by their crooked behavior. Some daring friends argue with Krishna and the peaceful boys make him happy with truthful and pleasing words. Prabhupada's translation of the above mentioned verse from Bhakti Rasamruta Sindhu There are three divisions among Krishna's friends. Some are eternally in friendship with Krishna, some are elevated demigods and some are perfected devotees. In all of these groups there are some who are by nature fixed in Krishna's service and are always engaged in giving counsel. Some of them are very fond of joking and naturally cause Krishna to smile with their words. Some of them by nature very simple and by their simplicity they please Krishna. And some of them Sorry, Lord Krishna, I'm sorry. Some of them create wonderful situations by their activities apparently against Krishna. Some of them are very talkative, always arguing with Krishna and creating a debating atmosphere. And some of them are very gentle and give pleasure to Krishna by their sweet words.
The different devotees and different kinds of sakyas.
So this shows different devotees in different kinds of sakyas.
It's not have to be a stereotype.
It has to be a stereotype.
Lord is friends of Krishna are different varieties.
So friends of Krishna are of different varieties.
Some are laughing, some are joking.
Some are laughing, some are joking, some
are arguing with Krishna, Some are arguing
with Krishna,
giving Krishna counsel.
Some are Giving Krishna counsel.
Some are very simple and being a very
Some are very simple. Being sweet and speaking softly.
Different kinds.
So there are different kinds.
I'm not mentioning all.
I'm not mentioning all.
So. And this what? Everybody loves Krishna. Let's see. All their agilities honor Krishna.
So shows that everybody loves Krishna and doing their activities in the honor of Krishna. In honor of Krishna. They want to please Krishna.
So they're doing that in different ways.
So some are doing that in different ways.
Krishna may like to argue with someone.
So Krishna may like to argue with
someone, joke with someone else.
He might like to joke with someone else.
So like that. There are different relationships in different ways and all are giving good pleasure to Krishna.
So like that. There are different relationships in different ways and all that are giving pleasure to Krishna. By their various natures all the sweet friends increase the wonder of pure friendship with Krishna. Prabhupada's translation of the above mentioned verse from Bhakti Rasamruta Sindhu all of these friends are very intimate with Krishna and they show expertise in their different activities. Their aim always being to please Krishna. Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna and his companions are the Alambana support of this Rasa. The two armed Bhagavan is the support in the form of object. Vishya Rupa Alambana. He possesses an exquisite form, adorned with all auspicious attributes. Strong, eloquent in various wondrous languages. Articulate, highly learned, exceedingly brilliant, skillful, full of compassion. The crest jewel among heroes. Expert and humorous. Intelligent, forgiving, forgiving, the shelter of those devoted to him. Prosperous, blissful and supremely glorious. His companions match him in beauty, dress and qualities. Yet they remain distinct in their unique characteristics and exhibit Vishramba. Deep confidence.
Always an engineer, not his friends appreciating him.
So Krishna's qualities are mentioned here and this. His friends are appreciating him like this.
And so also very nicely dressed. They look very handsome.
He's also very nicely dressed and he looks very handsome.
And so they have like two confidence all the time.
Krishna's friends. They are very nicely dressed. They look very handsome and they also have deep confidence.
Someone asked me.
Someone asked me. Does Krishna know Tamil? Sorry, no. Tamil.
No. Krishna knows even the language. Birds and beasts.
Krishna. I mean Krishna knows even the languages of the birds and beasts.
Even the language.
Even the language of the trees. What to speak of Tamil, Telugu, other language and other languages.
Bengali.
Bengali.
Lord. Lord Chaitanya. He was in Bengal.
Of course. Lord Chaitanya. He was in Bengal.
So he spoke not only Bengali, but also Sanskrit.
He spoke not only Bengali, also Sanskrit.
Someone told me that in the sense of soul they studied a Shikshastaka.
So someone told me in their Sanskrit school they studied the Sikhshastika.
Each verse is a different meter, a different title, Paladry and Sanskrit.
Each verse is a different meter, a different poetry. In Sanskrit it's perfect and it's perfect.
So they started out from an academic point of view.
So they studied that from an academic point of view. Two types of Lord Krishna's friends There are two kinds of Krishna's friends. Puravasi Saka, friends from the cities outside Braj and Vajavasi Saka friends of Braj. Among his city friends are Arjuna, Bhim, Sena, Draupadi, Sridham and the Brahmana and others with Arjuna being the foremost. However, those who feel distress when separated from Krishna even for a moment, who always engage in his pastimes and who consider him to be their very life, such companions are his Brajavasi suckers. Thus among all of Krishna's friends, the Brajavasi Sakas are understood to be there most prominent.
I saw when Krishna went to Mathura.
So when Krishna went to Mathura, taken by Akura, Taken by Akura police,
they were surrounding him. They were pleading with him. Not at all.
So the Gopis were surrounding him. They were pleading with him not to go. But anyway he went.
Some of the friends Krishna accompanied him.
But some of the friends of Krishna accompanied him. According to this Leela, of course he was in Mathura for some time. For some time he went to Dwarka. And then he went to Dwaraka he
had made by Vishwakharma.
So he had Dwaraka made by Vishwakarma.
And he transferred all the people from Mathura to Dharga.
So he transferred all the people from Mathura to Dwaraka.
Am I right? Some of the Sakas, they could go to Mathura.
So anyway, some of the Sakas, they could go with Krishna to Mathura.
Then they had to return to
Vrindavan.
Vrindavan.
But they had to return to Vrindavan.
Anyway, this.
Anyways, these Sakas, they have very special relationship with Krishna. So if they are separated from Krishna for a moment, they feel separation. Just the last one, Surhrit well wishing Saka friend Priya Saka dear friend Priya Narmasaka, most intimate and confidential friend. These four types of friends eternally serve Krishna in Braj.
So everybody remember the meaning of
Does. Does everyone remember the meaning of Suhit? Saka saka. Priya Saka and Priya Narmasaka.
The suhrit of what?
Suhret of what? Well, we should have the document.
What does it mean?
What does it mean? What does it mean? Suhit means. I want to know. Who knows what suhrit mean? Well, wishing friend.
Older, younger, same age.
Older, younger, same, older.
French mixed with the French.
Parental love.
Holly. What are the suckers?
What do the suckers do?
Don't raise your hand. All those.
Okay. Who knows what the suckers do? They.
We don't know. Yeah, I love that. The younger and then crash down.
They are younger than Krishna.
They are friends.
They are friends but mixed with Dasha. But they are mixed with Dasya.
Surah is friendship mixed with Prando Suha
is friendship mixed with the parent and the sakas.
Friends mixed with Dasya.
The Sakas are friends mixed with Dasya and Priyanarmasadas and then so we have Priyasaka and Priyanarmasaka.
Priyasaka. Priya, Saka,
Priyasaka. They're friends with Krishna.
Priyana.
Most intimate and confidential friend.
