In this classroom‑style lecture, Jayapataka Swami explains the distinctive features of Vatsalya Rasa (parental love toward Krishna) and how it differs from the other principal bhakti‑rasas—Dasya (servitude) and Sakya (friendship). Drawing on scriptural sources such as Bhaktira Samrata Sindhu, Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu, and Sahitya Darpana, he shows that Vatsalya remains intact even when a devotee cannot discern the Lord’s rati, whereas Dasya and Sakya can weaken or disappear. He then discusses the phenomenon of rasa‑mixture (rasa saṅkalata), providing numerous examples from the Mahāpurāṇas and the Mahābhārata where devotees exhibit blended rasas (e.g., Balarama’s fraternal feeling mixed with servitude and parental affection; Yudhishthira’s Vatsalya combined with Dasya and Sakya; Nakula, Sahadeva, and Narada’s Sakya‑Dasya mix; Shiva, Garuda, and Uddhava’s Dasya‑Sakya mix; Aniruddha’s Dasya‑Sakya). The lecture emphasizes that while each devotee may have a primary rasa, the supreme rasa for all is Madhurya (sweet, intimate love), with the other rasas serving as supporting elements. The session includes interactive questions from attendees, clarifications, and devotional remarks, illustrating how the theoretical framework translates into devotional practice.

Moreover, when a Dasya Bhakta cannot discern whether the Lord has rati for that Bhakta, his Preetirasa Dasya weakens. And when a Sakya Bhakta cannot discern whether the Lord has rati for that Baksa, his prayer Raksa disappears. But even if the Vatsala Bhakta cannot discern the Lord's Rati, Vatsala Rasa is not affected at all. These three Rasas, Dakya Sakya and Vatsalya are supremely wonderful. Yet in certain instances the presence of Rasa mixture Rasa Sankulata is observed.

Even though Preeta, Dasya, Praya, Sakya and Vatsalya are supreme for devoted to those respective Rasas, their primary Rasa remains Madhura Rasa and these three function as it is supporting elements. This will become evident later. So different primary Rasa may have slight mix with other verses. They serve Krishna and in this way they serve Krishna.

So like this, Krishna is having different relationship with these different devotees.
So someone may have all kinds of different emotions to the relationship.
So some may have all kinds of different emotions in different relationship.
So this is something.
So this is something mixed.
I understand that.
So it's very interesting when devotion to Krishna is mentioned in the terms of Rasa. So we see the Rasas in different devotees. Some of them are pure, some of them are mixed. So you can serve Krishna in unlimited ways. Nakula Sahadeva Narada and others have Sakya mixed with Preeti. Shiva, Garuda, Uddava and others have Preeti mixed with Sakya.
