20260324 - Jaladuta Diary_Part_11

Speakers read Srila Prabhupada's Jaladuta Diary and explore Lord Caitanya's teachings on chanting the Hare Krishna mantra with humility and tolerance. The Hare Krishna maha-mantra is the principal mantra for Kali Yuga, and devotees should approach it with a humble heart, bend like grass, and offer respect to all beings, even opponents.
Chapters
Hare Om Tat Sat.
Hare Om Tat Sat. Hare Krishna, dear devotees. Today we will continue with Srila Prabhupada's Jaladuta Diary. Okay, continuation from the reading of Siksha Ashtakam. The second verse: O my Lord, Your holy name can alone render all benediction upon the living being. Therefore, You have hundreds and millions of names like Krishna, Govinda, etc. In these transcendental names, You have invested all Your transcendental potencies, and there is no hard and fast rules for chanting these holy names. Oh my Lord, You have so kindly made it easy to approach You by Your holy names, but unfortunate as I am, I have no attraction for them.
So, here Lord Caitanya is expressing his anxiety.
So here Lord Caitanya is expressing his anxiety.
That Holy Names are so sacred, they are so helpful for the people.
So the Holy Name associated with the Soul is helpful for the people.
And it's a benediction for the whole humanity.
It's kind of a benediction for the whole humanity.
But at the end here, it ends that, "I made it easy to approach you." But at the end he mentions that he had made it easy to approach him. But I am very unfortunate, "I have no attraction." But I'm very unfortunate that I have no attraction. "For this Holy Name." For this Holy Name.
"So, you see how he's been very humble." So you can see how he's being very humble.
"He says he has no attraction." He says he has no attraction. "Not that he's saying." 'Oh, I have attraction, I'm very advanced.' Not that he says, 'I have attraction, I'm very advanced.' He take a humble position, 'I have no attraction, I'm not advanced.' He's taking a very humble position, 'I have no attraction, I'm not advanced.' And so, like that, which also we are now. Humble state of mind.
So like that, we should also be in a humble state of mind. That's mentioned in the next verse.
And then, 'How these Holy Names are— He has hundreds of millions of Holy Names.' So, Holy Names have—
the Lord's Holy Names have hundreds and millions of Holy Names.
and so we could preach, outreach to the people of the other place.
So, we could outreach, we could preach to different people?
And, they don't want to join in, or, you know, in the— what name they have? That is the Supreme Lord.
What's the argument?
If they don't want to chant Krishna Govinda—
If someone chants Krishna Govinda—
If they don't want to chant—
If they don't want to chant Krishna Govinda—
Then they can chant any one of 5 names of Lord Krishna.
They can chant any of the different names of Lord Krishna.
But He is the Supreme Lord.
I think in every Yuga there's a different Mahamantra.
Satya, Treta, Dwapara.
In Satya, Treta, Dwapara.
So, basically, on the 5th, Rasas. I don't know why you ask.
Question which?
There are basically, there are 5 Rasas in 4 Yugas.
So, I don't know, Sathya Yuga, how is that known? Santarasa and Dasarasa.
In Satya Yuga you have kind of Santarasa and Dasarasa. Treta Yuga you have the Vatsalya Rasa.
Other Rasas continue. When you say you have Sakya, you have also Rajarasa.
Other Rasas also continue. Let's say you have Sakya, It also has santa and dasya.
So in Treta Yuga, in Dwapara Yuga, it has vatsalya, sakya, dasya, and santa.
But in Kali Yuga, we have the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra. Hare Krishna.
Hare Krishna.
Krishna Krishna. Hare Hare. Hare Rama. Hare Rama. Hare Rama. Hare Rama. Hare Hare.
So, actually, Lord Caitanya gave this thing, and it embodies all of us.
So actually Lord Chaitanya gave this name and actually it embodies all the races. Madurya, Vatsalya, Sakya, Dasya, and Sankara races.
So, in one sense, we are the great meditation.
So, in one sense, we have the great benediction that we can go back to Krishna in this Kali Yuga's short life. One can chant the holy names of the Lord in a humble state of mind thinking himself as lower than the straw on the streets, tolerant more than the tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and being ready to offer all kinds of respects to others.
So, here he gives the attitude that one should have all the time.
So, here he gives the attitude that one should have whilst chanting?
I remember that Prabhupada was describing how one steps on a grass and the grass bends over.
So, I was— Srila Prabhupada explains how when one steps on the grass and the grass bends over.
But then as the one walks on, the grass gradually comes back up.
So, but, and gradually after one has stepped on, stepped over, the grass gradually comes back up.
So, the grass is so humble, step on it, bow down.
So the grass is humble, when you step on it, it bows down?
but then it comes back up.
And then it comes back up.
So, although the grass is humble, it's determined.
Although the grass is humble, it is determined.
It will always come back up.
It will always come back up.
So, in this thing, Instruction in grass.
So, it's very interesting instruction in grass.
Humility doesn't mean that we are subjugated.
Humility doesn't mean that we are subjugated.
It means we don't resist.
It means we don't insist.
We don't resist.
We don't resist.
Hang on. So, what words tell? Determined in our devotional service.
We should be determined with our devotional service.
And then, I like how Rādhārāa said, that we should be more tolerant than a tree.
Remembering how we can see how Śrīla Prabhupāda has said we should be more tolerant than a tree.
And the rain, go under the tree, you have shelter.
So in the tree, in the rain, under the tree there is a shelter. And sometimes people cut a twig off and brush their teeth.
Sometimes a hot lens off, —firewood.
Sometimes they'll cut it off and make them into firewood. And sometimes they make furniture. Sometimes they make furniture. So, tree tolerates all this. So, a tree tolerates all this.
And doesn't protest.
It doesn't protest. I like that. So like that?
We should be tolerant like a tree.
So like that, we should be tolerant like a tree?
No, no, man. Really tolerant. That means really tolerant. You know, someone mistreats me, what should I do?
Someone was what? Ask, asking me, what should I do? If someone is mistreating me, what should I do? I want vengeance. I want vengeance. Aah! Oh! A tree doesn't seek vengeance. So we should be so tolerant like a tree.
I mean, a Vaishnava is very tolerant when it comes to his —on offense.
When it comes to his own offense. Someone offending him. If someone is offending him.
Aha, aha. And, but if someone offends spiritual master or Krishna.
If someone offends the spiritual master or Krishna.
And then the Vaishnavas are active.
And then the Vaishnavas are very active.
So, on our own side, we are humble, tolerant.
For our own side, we are humble and tolerant.
And so, we don't feel any sense of false prestige.
So, we don't feel any sense of false prestige.
And although we respect to everyone else. And we offer respect to every—
respects to everyone else.
And so there's a lot of books, I don't remember the title. "Why Should I Have a Kid?" No. It's a material book.
Oh, it's a material book? Yeah. Oh. So there's a book, it's how to to make friends with your enemies.
[INAUDIBLE] Okay.
[INAUDIBLE] The whole book was about offering respects to others. [INAUDIBLE] And don't desire any respect for yourself. So, try that.
And if you try that, Like, there was a devotee, he was talking to a Qazi.
So there was a devotee, he was talking to a Qazi. Not Chand Qazi, some other Qazi.
And he was very, you know, very handsome and very religious.
He was praising him, "You are very handsome, you are very religious." "Here are my nails." So he went on like this. "I want request." "But I have one request." "What's that?" "What's that?" "Forget all this." "Forget all this." "Chant Hare Krishna." "Chant Hare Krishna." "I'll chant Hare Krishna tomorrow." "I'll chant Hare Krishna tomorrow." And the devotee said, "You have already started today." "You have already started today." Don't stop. Don't stop.
So, people like to be praised.
So, people like to be praised.
And, envious. So, and even if they will blaspheme you, or criticize you, or obstruct you.
Even if people, they blaspheme you, obstruct you, they criticize you, offer them respect.
And, in this way, you get more access to the other wheels.
So, in this way you get more access to different what? Wheels, or— Different wheels, different people.
What Lord Chaitanya when he was in Benaras, preaching to the Mayavadi Sannyasis.
When Lord Chaitanya, when he was in Benaras and he was preaching to the Mayavadi Sannyasis.
So, he sat down in the foot water, dirty place.
He sat down in the foot water, dirty place. Leader of the sannyasis, Prakashananda Saraswati, "Why are you sitting down at a dirty place?" So, and then the leader of the sannyasis, Prakashananda Saraswati, said, "Why are you sitting in that dirty place?" He said, "I'm not qualified to sit amongst all of you." He said, "I'm not qualified to sit amongst all of you." and Prakashananda Saraswati went, held him by the hand, put him amidst of them. So, and then Prakashananda Saraswati went, grabbed him by his hands, and then brought him amidst them.
And then the words he sang, That might have been, I don't know what the reaction would be.
If Lord Chaitanya would have said, "Oh," then we would not have known what the reaction would have been.
But, in this way, by being humble, tolerant, respectful, offering respect to the others.
This way, if you are being humble, tolerant, respectful, offering respects to others, He was brought to the midst of the Mayavadis. He was brought to the midst of the Mayapur sannyasis. Mayavadis. Mayavadis sannyasis.
Not Mayapur.
I'm sorry.
I'm glad you're I'm glad that you are mindful, conscious. I said the Lord of all sense, of all such things, not the Lord of all sense.
So devotees are devoted to false of— divided of all sense of false prestige and being ready to offer all kinds of respects to others.
Not devoid of all sense.
That's what's written here. That's what is written there.
Okay.
Krishna, Matias too.
