20260325 - Jaladuta Diary_Part_12

In this devotional class, speakers A and B read and comment on verses from Srila Prabhupada’s Jaladuta Diary and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s Sikshastakam. They emphasize that true desire is the self‑less wish to serve Krishna across lifetimes, rejecting material goals such as wealth, beautiful women, followers, and even liberation. The discussion explains that the first four verses describe this transcendental desire, while the subsequent verses highlight the importance of chanting the Holy Name, cultivating humility, and experiencing ecstatic devotional emotions (tears of love, hairs standing on end). The speakers describe the material world, especially Kali Yuga, as a painful realm that can be escaped through chanting. They illustrate the concept of separation (bhava) and the longing to see and know Krishna, using vivid imagery and analogies. Throughout, the class includes call‑and‑response chanting, encouragement for devotees to attain these advanced devotional states, and a brief mention of cultural references (e.g., George Harrison). The overall purpose is to inspire listeners to adopt a self‑less devotional mindset, practice the Holy Name, and seek the ecstatic love of Krishna.
Chapters
Hare Krishna, dear devotees. Today we will continue with our reading from Srila Prabhupada's Jaladuta Diary. Okay, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's Sikshastakam, verse number 4. Oh, the Almighty Lord, I have no desire for accumulating wealth, nor have any desire to enjoy beautiful women, neither I want any number of followers of mine. What I want only is that I may fulfill Krsna's devotional service in my life, birth after birth. So, the first verse of the Shashtakara is telling us about what we should desire.
And so, normal reasons people do things is for achieving some material benefit.
The normal reasons people do things is to achieve some material benefit.
Here Lord Caitanya is trying to Supreme Lord.
Here Lord Caitanya is praying to the Supreme Lord.
Hearing, hearing it.
He doesn't want these material benefits.
He has no desire to gain any wealth.
He doesn't have any desire to gain any material wealth. He doesn't want to enjoy beautiful women.
And he doesn't want any number of followers.
His only desire is to serve the Lord even life after life.
I don't want wealth.
He says that he doesn't want wealth.
I don't want beautiful women.
Doesn't want beautiful women.
I don't want followers.
Doesn't want followers.
I don't even want liberation.
He doesn't even want liberation.
He wants to serve the Lord.
He wants to serve the Lord.
In this life, eternally.
In this life and eternally. Even birth after birth.
So, because we know that this material world is not a very good place.
Of course, we know this material world is not a very good place. And so long as we want to serve the Lord, "If you want to serve the Lord, and then we want to go back to the spiritual world." "That's not our desire at all." "That's our desired destination." "We want to serve the Lord." "We want to serve the Lord." "In this world there are a lot of problems." "In this world?" What's that?
In this world or wherever the Lord wants.
In this world or wherever the Lord wants. Sorry.
This is really a selfless, transcendental desire.
So this is really a selfless, transcendental desire.
I heard some people, they're hurting a lot, and they're suffering in the material world.
I heard some people, they're suffering a lot in the material world, and what, that may lead us to the universal problem. So that might lead someone to impersonal Brahman.
So, if you want to serve the Lord, then that leads us to Krishna Loka.
If you want to serve the Lord, that leads us to Krishna Loka.
And that's the actual essence.
That's the actual essence.
To serve the Lord.
To serve the Lord. So, everybody has this desire, "I want to serve the Lord even birth after birth." If everybody has this desire that, "I want to serve the Lord even birth after birth," then that's very positive.
And so we should think like that.
So we should think like that. Actually, serving Lord Krishna is very blissful. We are part of Krishna. It's our nature to serve him. This human life, gives us an opportunity to serve Him.
Otherwise, always identified with the body, ever engaged in different material activities.
Otherwise, we identify ourselves with the body and engage in different material activities.
So, all the verse told us is about Holy Name. Holy Name.
The two verses is about, the first two verses is about the Holy Name.
I rose a lot. The humble state of mind.
The third verse is about the humble state of mind.
Third and the fourth verse, fourth verse is telling us what we should desire.
And the fourth verse is telling us about what we should desire.
"We don't want wealth, followers, beautiful women." We don't want wealth, followers, beautiful women. "We don't even want liberation." We don't even want liberation. "We want to serve the Lord." We want to serve the Lord. "So Lord Jayapataka Swami is giving us this instruction." So Lord Chaitanya is giving us this instruction. That's why the devotees are very, very special.
That's why the devotees are very, very special. Fifth one. O son, O the son of Maharaj Nanda, I am your eternal servitor, and although I am so, somehow or other I have fallen on the ocean, in the ocean of birth and death. Please therefore pick me up from the ocean of death and fix me up as one of the atoms of your lotus feet.
So, this fifth verse tells us how we are the eternal servitors of Lord Krishna.
So, this fifth verse tells us how we are the eternal servitors of Lord Krishna. Somehow or other, we have fallen in this ocean of birth and death.
We are in this material world. So then we are suddenly enjoying the material pangs.
And we are suffering the material pangs.
And, all this material world is a very horrible place.
So this material world is a very horrible place? Especially in this Kali Yuga.
So, actually, the Prophet has sacrificed all the Apes, —chanting the Holy Name.
Actually, the method prescribed for this age is chanting the Holy Name.
Hare Rama, Hare Krishna, Hare Rama, Hare Krishna.
The chanting of the Holy Name has all the other potencies of Krishna. How humble is that line? How we should have humble state of mind? Always a desire to serve Krishna.
How we should desire to serve Krishna? Not any material things.
And not any material things. They come automatically.
We don't have to desire them.
We don't have to desire that.
It's a desire to serve Krishna.
We should desire to serve Krishna.
we have fallen into this material world pool.
So, in this, we'll mention that we have fallen into this material world pool. We have to take birth after birth after birth. Death after death after death. Death after death after death.
Now, we want to be free from this material world of birth and death.
So we want to free from this material world of birth and death.
So we are begging the Lord. So we are begging the Lord.
Please make me as one of the atoms at your lotus feet. Chai. The 6th verse: O my Lord, when shall my eyes be decorated with tears of love flowing incessantly by chanting Your Holy Name? And when all the holes, all the hairs, all the holes of hairs on my body will have eruptions by recitation of Your Holy Name? Of any—
So, in this verse, Achyutatva, what is— what Chaitanya is talking about?
Ecstasy. So, in this verse of Shikshastaka, Lord Chaitanya is telling us about ecstasy.
So, tears coming from the eyes, hairs standing on end.
Tears coming from the eyes, hairs standing on end. And if we can taste this nectar of the Holy Name— If we can taste this nectar of the Holy Name—
Then naturally we will be insulated from material attraction.
So naturally we will be insulated from material attraction. So, I am traveling And by chanting, we are going through the various bhakti steps.
And that's how natural all of these transcendental emotions.
And naturally, we'll develop these transcendental emotions.
And all those other things are always Angry birds.
So these are the things that we are always hankering for.
We would like to achieve these emotions, these ecstasies. So, this is possible by chanting the Holy Name.
This is possible by chanting the Holy Name.
And we want everyone of you to achieve this stage.
And we want every one of you to achieve this stage. Lord Chaitanya is praying, "When my eyes will have incessant flow of tears of love." He wants incessant. He's not asking occasionally, he wants incessant.
So, this is a very advanced stage of devotional service.
So this is a very advanced stage of devotional service. It's not the most advanced, right? It's not the most advanced stage. And we want all the devotees to achieve this most advanced stage and be happy. Can you hear him? How many of you would like to achieve this Krishna Bhava?
Okay.
Oh Govinda, feeling your separation, I am considering a moment as 12 years. 'Or more than that, and tears flowing down from my cheeks like torrents of rains. I am feeling all vacant in the world without your presence.' So here in this verse of Siksha Ashtakam number 7, —has established the mood of serving Krishna in separation. And how that should be easy for us, because we are separated.
No doubt about it. What's that? There's no doubt about it.
There's no doubt about it.
We are separated, we are far away from Krishna.
We are separated, we are far away from Krishna.
At the same time, He's in our heart.
At the same time, He's in our heart.
He sees everything we do.
He sees everything we do. We cannot cheat Him. We cannot cheat Him. We cannot. There's a saying, drinking water underwater on a fast day. What does that mean? What does that mean? So someone on a fast day, he goes to the sacred water Ganges. When he takes out his dope, no one can see what he's doing. If he drinks water, if he drinks the water, he can think that he can cheat all the people, but he can't cheat Krishna.
He sees what you are doing.
So, drinking water underwater on a fast day. So, drinking water underwater on a fast day.
No, I was thinking that how Krishna is so wonderful.
So, I was thinking how Krishna is so wonderful.
He can have a personal relationship with every devotee.
So, He can have a personal relationship with every devotee.
we can't imagine the millions, unlimited trillions, zillions of devotees.
Yeah, we can't imagine the millions, unlimited trillions, zillions of devotees. Lord Krishna, he can have a personal relationship with everyone.
So, now, I know George Harrison, he had the— was it there, that song?
I don't know the name. Anyone knows the name of the song? Search Google. But he sang, "I want to see you, I want to know you." He has sung, "I want to see you, I want to know you." 'I want to know you.' Here Lord Caitanya is saying, 'Oh Lord Govinda, I'm feeling separation. I want to see you, I want to know you.' 12 years. One moment is like 12 years. Or more than that. Or more than that.
So, Lord Caitanya is teaching us how we should have separation, how we should kill the desire to serve Ka.
So, Lord Caitanya is teaching us how you should have the feeling of separation and how you should desire to serve Lord Krishna. Interesting. 8:28.
Oh, 8:30, sorry.
