54th Sannasa Anniversary

ISKCON celebrates Jaya Pataka Swami's 54th sannyas anniversary with tributes from godbrothers praising his missionary work and leadership in Mayapur. Speakers recall his decades of service as a GBC-appointed sannyasi, a 1968 Radhastami lecture by Srila Prabhupada, and practical details like his 75th Vyasapuja platinum coin and prasadam at Vamsi Bhavan Park.
And take care of each other so lovingly. Shall we say another haribol to both of them. Thank you for teaching us by example. The other thing that I'd like to mention to all of you here is that currently His Holiness Rajapataka Maharaj is the longest serving GBC appointed by Srila Prabhupada. And I was also told by Naru Gopal Prabhupad others which I I can't say because I did no research. But in the Gaudiya Mat he is also the longest serving sannyas at the moment. So it is so beautiful. So much we can learn from that. And you know somebody asked me Prabhu, why don't you give up your MC job to others now that you have a stroke? That I had a stroke. And I said leading by example Srila Guru Maharaj for giving me this service. So now we will request that both the Sannyasis kindly move to this side of the stage. Srila Gur Maharaj and Shwanda Sugar Maharaj. So the seed that your offering of gifts will take place to the divine couple Shri Sri Radha Gokulananda. So we want some space in the middle. Dear devotees, dear devotees, I know you all are wonderful devotees. Please give some way in the middle please so that those who are bringing gifts can walk and bring the gifts. Okay, so both the please give a classes and to Nar Maharaj also this side. Very good, thank you. So please give way the middle. Ask them to move. Please give way the middle because this.
Go side, side, side, side.
Coming.
Please give way in the mid.
So.
That we can bring the gifts of offering to the divine couple. Just to let all of you know. Just to let all of you know.
Okay, please give away. Move aside, move aside so all can.
Have a look here.
So please give away. Thank you, please go ahead.
So dear devotees, please please. We are begging. They are coming already now.

Hare Krishna. So Guru Maharaj just spoke. He said that he is speaking simultaneously to the devotees of Mayapur and to the devotees of Malaysia. And he said that today is a working day in Malaysia. So therefore all the programs are being held in the evening so that all the devotees could participate. And the person who is the MC there in Malaysia, he mentioned that right now at this moment Guru Maharaj is the senior most Gaudiya Vaishnava on the planet. Not only the senior most Iskcon Iskcon Sanyasi but he is also the senior most Gauriamart Vaishnava Sannyasi. And that Guru Maharaj is there and in Malaysia he is present with his dear godbrother, his holiness Bhakti Swami as well. Hare Krishna.

Harris. Thank you for giving me a opportunity to say it some little bit. Actually, Srila Prabhupada he gave a class on Radhastami in 1968. Don't take that Radha Rami is an ordinary woman like we have our wife or sister or mother. No, she is the pleasure potency. And the birth of Radharani was not from the womb of any human being. She was found by her father in the field. While father was plowing, he saw one little child is lying there and he had no children. So he caught it and presented it to the queen. Okay. Oh, here we got a very nice child. How you got oh in the field? Just see Radharani's Janma is like that. So this Janma is today. And Radha, this name is sometimes not found in Bhagavata. So the atheistic class of men protest that Radharani's name is not in in Srimad Bhagavatam. How this name came Radharani but they do not know how to see it. There is. There are many Gopis but there Is mentioned that by this particular Gopi he is served more pleasingly. Krishna accepts this Gopi. Krishna accepts this Gopi. So this jama is today. And Radha, this name is sometimes not found in Bhagavatam.
Sorry.
So he is served more pleasing. Krishna accepts this Gopi service more gladly. So Radha has come from this word Radhya. The Radha has come. But Radha's name are there in other Puranas. So this is the origin of Radha Rami. And so this was a Radhasami lecture from August 13, 1968 in Montreal, Canada. So Sheila Prabhupada already has, in 1968 was in Canada and talking about Radharani and Srila Jai Patma Raj has taken Sannyas on this particular day of Radharani, the pleasure potency of Krishna. And what, what does sannyas means? Means no more marriage, no more association with women like this. But Shimadi, Radharani is not an ordinary woman. She came from the earth while her father was plowing the field. So Jaipattak Maharaj, he was. He's a very strong man. He's my dada. And in 1986, there was the 500th anniversary of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's appearance. And I came here to Mayapur on this occasion to celebrate this festival.
But.
And we were watching at that time the Samadhi was not completed yet. But still we were viewing some video in that sacrifice Samadhi. And during the festival time and suddenly somebody yelled through the upper part of the Samadhi auditorium, said, there's a fire, fire. So everybody ran outside and we saw this huge fire. It was engulfed behind the temple here. There was all these devotees used to stay in tents. And so somehow these tents got engulfed in a huge fire. So Jaipataka Maharaj, I remember he went on top of the roof of the temple and of the Radha Madhava's temple. At that time, Panchatatva's temple was not there. So it was right behind there where all these tents were and this huge fire. And Jaipattaka Maharaj, you know, he's this. He's a captain of this big ship, Mayapur. And he's, you know, he guided everybody. He made sure all the people that all the devotees got hurt, that they received water, that they received medical attention, that, you know, the fire was put out very quickly. So and he was out there and he was. He's such a leader, Jay Pataka Maharaj. And so at the same time, every time there is a disaster in Mayapur, Jaipur Dhaka Maharaj is out there. When there's a flood, he's out there, you know, making sure everybody gets prashadam. And he's always concerned about the welfare of the devotees and that is the quality of Vaishnava. They're always concerned about the welfare of the other jivas. And so this is how I respect Sahaibattak Maharaj, how he has completely sacrificed his own life, his own body, his own health just to. For our benefit to preach. And he, like it was mentioned before he started this namahata and that everybody. And you know, in Bengal or I go to Assam or some other place, everywhere there's devotees because they say, oh, I'm part of this Bhakti richa program or I'm part of the Namhata. I'm part. And it's all due to Jaipattaka Maharaj. And I wanted to thank him very much for tolerating me here in Mayapur. Thank you very much. Hare Krishna Maharaj killing.
Thank you, Marji. That was wonderful. Now we request his grace Riddha Prabhu to please come forward and say a few words and I will translate. I'll give a synopsis of the translation of Mataji and you also later on. Please come.
Thank you.

So in appreciation of the program here tonight Jaipattaka Swami Srila Prabhupada's legacy, I'd like to pay tribute to the previous speakers. I wasn't here, but my dear God brother Shankar Sham Prabhu from Sarup Ganji spoke. He's a very dear disciple of Srila Prabhupada. No doubt he spoke very honorably and with Hari Suri Prabhu. I have a lot of respect for Hari Suri because he explained tonight the bigger picture. As he explained and how the seeds of devotion and how the early disciples of Srila Prabhupada should be appreciated from what they have done and sacrificed. In particular, Jaipatta Swami he evolved in his early days in Montreal, although he himself was an American. And at that particular time, I also was coming down the St Lawrence river from the UK into Canada, and I was a merchant seaman. And I went ashore into Montreal in 1968 and I saw one devotee in a square with a Mridanga drum. And he was a Brahmachari. He had very strong tilak and he was playing merdanga. And hundreds of people were crowded around this one Brahmachari that was preaching. So Srila Prabhupada started that way by implementing just one man, one kirtan, one sankirtan. And from that program it expanded slowly but surely. So the same thing goes. Srila Prabhupada came here to Mayapur in the early part of. Before Bangladesh war. Before Bangladesh war. And in the hut we've seen the residency where Srila Prabhupada stayed in the hospital. Humble beginnings. Jaipattaka Maharaj. He was given the task of doing and performing austerity. And it was very austere. I can remember I first came to West Bengal in 1971, just winding up my ambitions as economy. By 1972 I joined ISKCON and by 1975 I came to Mayapur. And by 76, Jaipur, Thakkamaraj, I was a Brahmachari. He approached me before I got married. He approached me to stay in Mayapur. But somehow or another, Krishna had another plan for me to preach in South Africa and open up book distribution in different parts of the world. But I can remember very dear reminiscence of Jaipataka Maharaj when he used to come through the UK and when he would come through his first trips to South Africa. I remember him as a very thin man with a bit of a beard. He didn't shave much, he had a growth. And he carried an Indian metal trunk as a suitcase, just like a simple Indian Sannyasi. No opulence, no flashy watch. And at that time, I think it might have been 78, and many of the other gurus and sannyasis were getting adoration and distinction and profit. But he remained like an Indian Sannyasi, steadfast, focused, and he didn't go after the carrot. He stayed very, very focused on Srila Prabhupada's mission. And during the course of his life, of course, in the early 80s, I used to see him a fair bit because he was a world traveler. He, in many regards probably is in the Guinness Book of Records of being one of the most traveled personalities on the planet. Even more so than Srila Prabhupada in one sense because he was a globetrotter. And as I was his travel agent and advisor on many occasions he would come to me with very complicated itineraries to travel around the world. And I only knew a very basic around the world ticket. So he'd say, rida Prabhu, I would like you to take me to South America and then we'll go to Fiji and then I want to go to Europe and I want to travel back to India. Of course, these itineraries would always change. So spend months doing his tickets and then he would change it. So he was a. I mean, he knew how to travel extensively. And he, as Hari Suri said, he gave his youth, you see. So he was just a young thin man, a single man, a Brahmachari. And he gave everything for preaching. So we should try and appreciate what he's done. But don't become too complacent. If you're a Brahmachari and if you're a Brahmachari, Krihasta, take his example because go out there and pray, preach and do what he did. Do what he did and open up new frontiers. In many respects, he was a. Not only a pioneer, but a missionary preacher. Missionary. He sacrificed his time to learn Bengali. He became an Indian citizen. He went to Bangladesh, where he's a hero. He opened up Malaysia, which is an Islamic country, so is Bangladesh. Who would dare go there with the threat of being arrested? Even nowadays, it's very dangerous. So please take his example and help him in these difficult days that we're in right now. We are in difficult days. Don't become complacent. Don't be enamored by materialism. Go out there and preach. I remember in the 80s, in the beginning of the 1980s, devotees were getting very complacent in Bhaktivedanta Manor in England. And the local authorities were trying to close us down by any method possible. They were trying to destroy our Bhaktivedanta. Mana and Jaipattaka Maharaj had traveled to different World Hindu Federation meetings. And I had organized later in that year, later, a decade later, to the World Hindu Conference in Durban in South Africa when Nelson Mandela came and because of Jaipataka Swami's attendance to the satellite group called the World Hindu Federation, he used to attend these federations every year, every so often when they would have. When they would be scheduled, they mostly came from Nepal. So we have to look at that recognition. So I'll just Tell you a little bit story. The manor was going to be closed and we went to the World Hindu Conference. And because of the groundwork that Jai Pataka Swami did with the World Hindu Federation, they also attended as a side group these Nepali Gurkhas and Nepali Kshatriyas and Hindus. They had vowed to back us no matter what happened. I can't get into too many details because they're quite graphic, because they're Chatriyas. They said, we will stand by you in Kathmandu and we will circumambulate the British Embassy as a protest. If they try to shut Bhaktivedanta Manor down, we will protect you. We will take that embassy down. And this type of loyalty came from Jaipataka Maharaja's attendance to those meetings whenever they appeared. So it's a very subtle thing. They didn't know who we were, but because they knew Jaipataka, they appreciated us. So Jaipataka Maharaj is a stalwart Sannyasi and a glorious disciple of Srila Prabhupada. Thank you very much. And hare Krishna.

So His Holiness Bhakti Prashita Swami Maharaj just said that we disciples, it is our duty to glorify the spiritual master. But when the Godbrothers they speak about Guru Maharaj that is very, very special. So once a group of Radharath Swami Maharaj's disciples, about 5 to 7,000 devotees had come to Mayapur. And it was Srila Prabhupada's disappearance day. And Srila Prabhupada was being glorified. So his grace.
I spoke about three things that Prabhupada has told our Guru Maharaj that I give you the kingdom of God, now you develop it. So he started from very small. Now you see Mayapuru so big. Then also Prabhupada told our Guru maharaj, you make 50,000 disciples. So another devotee confirmed it. And he said Prabhupada said Your Guru Maharaj 50,000. Me 50,000. I am not initiating your Guru Maharaj initiate 100,000 devotees. The third thing I said that Prabhupada told about Guru Maharaj that he is the associate of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. So thus those of us who have taken shelter of Guru Maharaj following his footsteps, we are very secured that he is connecting us to Srila Prabhupada and the previous Acharyas Pure silver coin.
