A short transcript excerpt from a talk by His Holiness Jayapataka Swami contrasting modern youths’ preoccupation with parties, music, and sensory enjoyment with the focused spiritual determination of Dhruva (a child-saint). The speaker highlights that Dhruva pursued Bhagavan alone, without facilities or support until Varuna Muni, whereas contemporary Krishna-conscious children have temples, parents, ashram teachers, and senior devotees to guide them.
Considering most kids or even most youths, how determined are they to find Bhagavad? Right? I mean they want to find some. Where's the latest party going on? Where's the good time? Where can they have a little snack? Where can they listen to some rock and roll music or this music, so whatever, play around. I mean everybody just wants to join their senses and hear his five year old kid. And he's not even thinking about enjoying his day. He wants to find Bhagavan. He's determined, he's fixed, he's focused. That's what makes Dhruva stand out. He's like the patron saint for the children. The how to be determined in your Ka consciousness. In spite of so many distractions, he didn't even have much support till Varana Muni came. He was just struggling in the dark. Still he didn't give up. Our Krishna conscious children have so much help from their parents, from their ashram teachers, from other senior devotees, gurus that for them it's not like so difficult to find out what Bhagavan looks like. Where you can find him. You can go to the temple and you can see Bhagavan. You can worship him, you can talk to him, you can ask him for blessings. He didn't have any of those facilities. But study was determined.
