Short excerpt from a 2025 talk by Jayapataka Swami advising listeners to first make a firm decision to engage in devotional service. The speaker states that only after deciding to practice devotion does it make sense to consider what is favorable or unfavorable for that practice, and emphasizes that without the initial resolve subsequent guidance is irrelevant.
Now once we decide yes, I want to engage in devotional service, we make that decision. Okay then what's favorable for devotional service? What's unfavorable and what's favorable. Those are the next two verses. It's kind of the way that Gurukul Rahsari presenting it is just like very foolproof way. First of all, make your decision that you're going to engage in devotional service. You're going to take the effort of controlling your senses. Then next thing, how to do that, what's negative for that and what's positive? If you don't make the first decision, no need, don't have a psyche or you're programming so lets you do step one and go to the next step. If you don't do the first step, the second step doesn't even apply. Don't talk about what's favorable or unfavorable for devotional service. If you haven't made a decision to do devotional service, it's not. But if somebody is perfected in devotional service, then they are pretend. Even someone who might be quite advanced at it. Got a lot a high degree of protection.
