A short recorded religious discourse (Jaya Pataka Swami) explaining the Sanskrit term pavarga/apavarga as taught by RLA Prabhupada. The speaker breaks pavarga into five letters (pa, pa, ba, ba, ma) and maps them to aspects of material existence: intense labor (pa), foaming at the mouth from overwork (PA), frustration (ba), fearfulness (Ba), and death (ma). The talk emphasizes how ordinary material life is structured around these hardships.
Religious practice. Rla Prabhupada. When he lectured on this verse, he picked up on the word apavarga, meaning liberation from the material existence. So the word pavarga, pavarga means in relation to Sanskrit grammar, that there are the five letters in the Alphabet. Pa, pa, ba, ba and ma. This is what is called pavarga. Those of you who are reading the Sanskrit, probably it's the same in the Tamil. The same letters are there in the beginning. So RLA prabhupada explains the meanings of these words. Pa meaning working very hard, and then PA meaning foaming at the mouth, working so hard that one will foam at the mouth. Just like sometimes we see the animal, like the horse or the donkey, that they're working so hard that they will foam at the mouth. So the same way material life people often find themselves in this situation that they have to work very hard, and they're working so hard even that they're foaming at the mouth. And then Prabhupada goes on to explain ba meaning meaning frustration, and then Ba meaning fearfulness. And because we are working very hard, we are trying to enjoy the results. But so often we are frustrated, we are disappointed, we are. We don't get the results we were expecting. And then fearfulness. We are very much afraid that we're going to lose everything. All the things we've been working hard to acquire, they'll all be taken away from us. It's some point. And then the final letter, Ma meaning ritu, referring to death, which is inevitable for all of us in this material world. Murivilada. Some materialistic life is based in these five things that they're working hard, intense labor, foaming at the mouth, frustration, and then fear. And finally.
