The speaker (Jaya Pataka Swami) narrates a Hindu myth explaining why the Ganges (also called Janani/Janavi) follows its present course: a king with a mystical chariot carved a riverbed to bring the river down so it could touch the ashes of his ancestors (sons of Sagar) and deliver them from a curse. The powerful ascetic Janu Rishi swallowed the Ganges to protect his hermitage; after prayers the sage released the river from his knee, giving it the name Janani, and shifted its course closer to Mayapur. The speaker connects the river's beauty and moonlit attraction to the spiritual influence of Lord Chaitanya and his movement.
Mustang by the side of the Ganges Ganshis, also known as Chanavir. You know why the Ganges has the name Janavi did not know when the Ganges was coming down from the Himalayas. And that was being brought by one king called. And he had a special mystical chariot that was carving a riverbed into the soil so that the Ganges would have a place to flow. So somehow he didn't realize that he went very close to the ashram, to the hermitage of Janu Rishi. Janu Rishi was one of the very powerful sages with all kinds of mystical powers from his meditation. So he was disturbed that the whole Ganges is like, coming into his ashram and that his ashram is being flooded out. So he just using his mystic power, he swallowed the entire Ganges. So the Machi virus is furiously carving and going. He looks back and there's no water. And he's completely shocked to know what happened. There's no water. He had done for four generations. They're trying to bring the Ganges to this planet because his forefathers, the sons of Sagar Maharaj, they had been burned to ashes by the vision of Kabila Muni, because they attacked him thinking that he had stolen their horse, because they were doing a horse sacrifice. And actually Indra or someone stole it, put it there by Kamila Muni. It was like a cat. They understood that he was meditating and they went attacking him. And he looked and he saw, what are these people doing attacking me? He burned them into ashes. So now to deliver their souls after being burned into ashes, their sons, their grandsons, now their great grandsons, they're all trying to bring the Ganges water to wash over the ashes. Because if the Ganges can touch the ashes, then they'll be delivered from that curse of having committed an offense and been burned. So all of a sudden, after a lot of endeavor and then finally getting Mother Ganges to the Earth planet, then she disappears on it. I mean, just looking at this, you know, all the Way up to Himalayas, this dry riverbed. So he's completely shocked. She's trying to find where did the Ganges go. Not like he was misplaced a gigantic river. Jesus disappeared. Nothing. Finally we realized that it was swallowed by Jana Muni. So he went to his ashram and he prayed obeisances and he begged. I understand that we commit a big offense. You brought the Gantis by your ashram and you swallowed her. So he prayed, please, if you could bring her out so I can liberate my forefather's ashes. She said, well, I'll take the Ganges somewhere away from your ashram so it won't bother you anymore. He said, well, I already digested her river. I digest her. So maybe you can digest her. But anyone who can drink a river can also bring out the river. So that's not a question. If you can drink a whole river, you can somehow reproduce that same river out from you. So please, if you felt as if there's breathing, please don't give it Rishi. So then he agreed, okay, you have to bring the river away from my ashram. So that's why now the river goes by Mayapur Chandra, by Mandrakistan Ashram. Otherwise before it was going by Janamuni Ashram which is about 5km away. So now he shifted it over closer to where we are. Now it's 300 meters from us where this happened millions of years ago. So that's. Then he let the river come out from his knee. So Jahmir Nabi, from his knee, out came the river. So that river became known as Janali. Because now she's like daughter of Janu. Because it came all from Janu Lee Janu Jan Ali.
