Guru-vakya #048 Sri Gaura Arati Explained... (Part 4) #JayapatakaSwamiArchives

Jaya Pataka Swami explains the spiritual meaning of instruments in Krishna devotion: conch shells, bells, karatals, and mridanga drums. He draws on 32 years in India and Vedic verses to show how their sounds evoke rasa, the spiritual sentiment that connects the player and listener to Krishna.
Then there are some different devotees who are singing. These are devotees who are famous singers Sunshine Mukunda Vasugos and and others their devotees that would make a rock melt. They had such beautiful voices. They would sing and just bring out the devotion of anyone. So these are very special devotees. Mukunda Datta Vasudosh Sunshine Wish we had recordings in them. We could have take a time machine go back and record some of those here times that would be the most you hear all the science fiction about the. That's what like to give them some of those original Kirkats because they were so sweet that they just literally melt the rock and if you had a stone like heart it would melt it. In the Srila bhagavad Hamilton about 5,000 years ago it mentions that the Lord that Krishna will come but he won't be black in color and that he'll be accompanied by his associates, by his expansions, by his devotees and with his paraphernalia. Krishna Vargam Krishakrishna sat gopam dasra vakshadam so astra means paraphernalia. So this verse is kind of talking about some of the paraphernalia of the Lord. Conch shells are blowing, bells are ringing. Cartels. These cartels symbols actually the Bible and the Psalms. It mentions that you should play on cymbals and sing the names of the Lord. I've never seen any Christians doing it or Jews for that matter. But it mentioned in the psalms and it predicts there that there will be a time when people will come and play on cymbals and sing the names of them something inauguration is the best. But I saw that first of the psalms. So this symbols or karakals Karakal it means with your hand you keep the rhythm. Kala means rhythm. The kara seems to be to keep the rhythm of the karaka. Ready? The penetrating Ask our neighbors if you leave their window open in the morning they'll tell you the current. It's like so you have to close actually very soft and Madhura Nirranga the Niranga if you have a very good Nidranga player. I mean I've seen Nirdranga players they can make the Nidranga talk. They actually can make almost any sound with the madra. This is the najra here. This jumps talking your bass typing. I saw one he was showing Mitai go round walking to the G's more or less making like in a dipti goes for going to the clam making like different sounds. Pizza protection of player and he was giving us lessons. Some devotees, they can do all these sounds. The Vana has a variety of sounds like Prabhupada taught us just a few. But like ki ta ta kita gigi ta. So all those sounds when someone really knows how to play them then especially now we have of course this looks like it's made out of plate. Actual original clay ones. Usually it's fiberglass. You have to be very careful. This is a very fat cell. You get all the way from India to Germany. You drop it once, then it's finished. Vishnu to do so. Don't drop it. Nowadays many people are using the fiberglass. Fiberglass is a ting ting. But these have a deeper sound. And so it's called madhura. The rajranga, very sweet, more normally comes from the word madhu, which is honey. It's sweet, like sweet music to the ears. And when it's played with the whole combination of this mujranga playing and the dancing and the cartels and the conchals and the bells, it became something which was parama, rasa, transcendental melos, rasa filled with juice. Rasa literally means juice and rasala means like very rich in spiritual sentiments and loving emotions. Something which was a very rich kind of sound. So that's some of the background. I thought just to share some background, I was living in India 32 years and studying all these things. Hariki, Hari, rama, Rama.
