Jayapataka Swami teaches that Krishna consciousness requires knowing who Krishna is and surrendering fully to the Guru Paramparā. He uses Krishna's childhood pastimes like stealing butter to explain devotion, and recommends reading Srimad-Bhāgavatam and Prabhupāda's books to build a strong foundation.
So it's very important to have a strong foundation in Ka consciousness. If we know who Krishna is, then we can surrender to him. And if we're fully surrendered, then if somebody says some kind of critical statement, confusing statement, we know the answers. He says that a thief, he owns everything. How he can steal. But in order to give pleasure to the devotees in Vatsalya, Rasa and Vrindavan, he has his childhood pastimes. So children are naughty, they take sweets. In his case, he took butter. He fed to monkeys. Monkeys were great devotees who incarnated, great pandits who incarnated as monkeys to get a little butter from the hand of the Supreme Personality of God here. Sometimes somebody start telling Prabhupada, I think and giving some speculation. Why do I have to listen to you? I have my Guru. You don't have to listen to your speculations. It's not our requirement to listen to all your speculation. We follow Guru Parampar. We listen to Vyas Dev, we listen to Vyas Dev's representatives. We don't listen to people who just speculate things. So we hope that all our devotees read the Rmad Bhagavatam, read Prabhupada's books and get a very strong foundation in Ka consciousness and completely surrender to Ka. Days like Gorpunima, Janmastami, Yasa Puja is the day when we can surrender to Krishna Yaspuja the Guru and Krishna. We fully surrender that we're going to follow Sadhu Shastra Guru as a surrendered soul. We don't listen to foolish people.
