In Memory of HG Caitanya Rupa dd - Manager of Jayapataka Swami Tape & Video Ministry 1986-2013.

In this devotional talk, Mother Chaitanya Rupa (Caitanya Rupa D.D.) reflects on the essential role of implicit faith in both the spiritual master (Guru) and Krishna for the revelation of Vedic teachings. She outlines the qualifications of a true spiritual master—lineage, surrender, and the ability to act as a transparent medium free of ego—and contrasts implicit faith with blind obedience. Drawing on Srila Prabhupada’s teachings, she describes the "secret of success" as satisfying the spiritual master, and uses vivid metaphors (e.g., Maya as a razor blade) to illustrate the disciple’s need to relinquish material attachments. She shares her personal journey of overcoming a aversion to technology, accepting the audio‑video ministry in 1986, and eventually mastering multimedia production to spread Krishna consciousness worldwide. Throughout, she emphasizes that sincere service, enthusiasm, and the desire to make the master smile are the pathways to spiritual growth and to becoming a living embodiment of the Bhagavad‑gītā.

Well, a lot has been said. Um, only unto those great souls who simultaneously have implicit faith in both Guru and Krishna do all the purports of the Vedas become automatically revealed. When we have life, if we want to succeed, we have to have a game plan. We have to have step-by-step decisions. Every day we have to decide, you know, to get up and to do each thing, to keep our health and to keep our jobs, to keep our lives going. So we're always thinking through and making plans and lists. Well, in success Classes always tell you, you know, you set a goal, you set a long-term goal, short-term goal, and steps how to get there. Well, Prabhupada was the most fantastic success teacher that ever walked the face of the earth. Even Bhaktisiddharta Maharaj said that he had been a disciple of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and he had asked him to teach him more, and he said, "I can't teach you more, you'll have to go to the person who knows the most on the planet." cī-bhakti-dāna Swāmi Prabhupāda. And in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, in the very beginning, you know, we all want success. We've entered the Ka consciousness. What do we want out of Ka consciousness? We want success. Well, do you know in the first canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Prabhupāda says in a purport what the secret of success is? Does anyone know what that purport says? It says, "Satisfy the spiritual master to please him." In other words, when we come to a point that we realize that we are not qualified to see Krishna or to talk to him or to hear his voice. Some people will say, you know, "God told me to do this," and then they do the most outrageous things. But we are not in that position. So what happens? We have to have a transparent via medium. Somebody who has gotten his false ego out of the way or her false ego out of the way. When you meet a pure devotee who surrendered to Ka, they've kind of stepped aside and they're allowing Ka to talk through them. Ka's love comes through them and all the knowledge of the Vedas comes through them. So that's what transparent via medium is. A person who's pulled their false ego out of the way and when they meet you, their only thought is that this person has been sent to me by Ka. This person at this moment is the most important person. What can I do to help this person and put their hand put your hand back in the hand of Ka. Because every single one of us at one time had a relationship with Ka. We were living with him in the spiritual world and we decided to turn away from him and we got here. The spiritual master is saying turn back around and put your hand back in. But that's a special qualification, transparent via medium. It's not just something you can say, "I'm going to step aside." That's a person who surrendered. So qualifications to be a spiritual master is one, That you have to be a disciple and you have to be a qualified disciple of a qualified spiritual master. Number 2, you have to surrender to that spiritual master. Tad-bhiddhi-pranipatena, what Balabhagavat Prabhu was talking about. Approaching the spiritual master, inquiring from him submissively and rendering service unto him. And Prabhupada said that's not blind faith. It's implicit faith and not blind faith. What's the difference? Blind faith is saying, "Tell me to go over a cliff, I will jump." One time one devotee said that in a Vyasa Puja offering and Gurudeva got really upset about it in class. He says, "I've never asked you to go over a cliff." He never asks us to do anything that's going to break us. He said that the spiritual master sees the fire in the heart of the disciple. He sees this little flame of Ka consciousness. And he fans it until it burns so bright it burns the contamination away. Excuse me, I'm getting excited. He's one of the most enthusiastic people we know. I mean, you can take a person that, like Babaji said, is just so burned out and ready to give up and so lackluster and just a failure, and he can see one little flame in there and he grabs a hold of that flame and he feeds it and he He tends it and he fosters it until it burns bright and that devotee can be one of the most— Kavi Chanda Maharaj once said, to honor him he said, "You can make devotees out of people no one else would see as a devotee." He says, "You see him as devotee because he is a visionary." It says we have to see with the eyes of the Vedas. That's another qualification. —of the spiritual master, he doesn't see male, female, black or white, young or old. He doesn't see murderer, criminal, nasty person, nice person. He sees pure spirit soul. He sees potential. When he first met us, one of the first things he did was ask us to do the audio ministry. And I'm telling you, I do not like technology. They called me Computer Rupert for a while, and I don't like computers. I don't like technology. I'd rather be out in nature and planting. I mean, you know, I'm as far from that as you can get. And I struggled with that. And there are a lot of times I was like, you know, I went to him one time and took everything I could in front of him. I said, my husband and I are working, making good money. You find who is the best person qualified to do this, and my husband and I will pay for everything. And he stopped, looked at me and says, I can't think of anyone more qualified. And I thought, oh no, we're sunk. But you know, he never gave up. And that was back in 1986. And there were times that I was ready to give up. But he never chastised, he never criticized, he never blamed, and he never pushed me. If anyone pushed, it was me. And finally, this past year I surrendered and I said, you know, whatever it takes, I'm gonna do it. And everything broke loose. And now the technology is there We've got DVDs coming out. We can put 2 DVDs out a week just on classes. We're going to be putting a magazine out. We're going to be putting special things about Navadvipa Rikrama. These are DVDs that can play on television. They can play in homes and they can go around the world. You know, I mean, you know how small DVDs are. They're the size of CDs. This is the latest and greatest technology. And it was an impossibility One time in Mayapur, the devotees had gotten into this, um, "I'm a worm in stool" lamentation kind of offering for Vyasa Puja. And it was getting kind of heavy, the air was getting thick with the worm in stool thing. And he even said in class here one time for Vyasa Puja, he doesn't like those kind of offerings because it implies that he's not a good spiritual master. Because if you've been initiated for several years and you're still a worm in stool, that means he's failing. He wants to see us prosper. He wants to see us bloom. You know, stool is good when you fertilize the plants, but you're not supposed to live in it. You know, fertilize the plants and move on. This is his mood. And so for some reason I ended up being, you know, it's like this is all the men talking and he called and he said, "Mother Chaitanya Rupa, I want her." And he said, "Nobody else, call her." So I came up and I started talking and he wouldn't look at me, so I I just prayed to him in my heart and the next thing came out of my mouth. I couldn't believe it. And I started saying, "If we are initiated and we have faith in the spiritual master and we have love for the spiritual master, anything is possible. The impossible becomes possible. It's love that does it though. It's enthusiasm. When he gives us something to do, And he asks us to do it because he sees the future through Krishna giving it to him. It's not like some mystic, "Ooh, crystal ball!" But he can see that this devotee has this talent that they don't even know they have. He fans it and pulls it out of them with love and devotion and enthusiasm. And when we begin to say, "Okay, I'm kind of crazy and sick or I wouldn't be here in the material world in the first place, and you know better than I do, so let me go ahead and give this a shot." Then this is happening to me. I'm gradually looking at it, and for the first time in years I told my husband, "You know, I'm actually beginning to like the service." You know, I've been doing it because he loves the service and Guru Dave loves the service. I've been doing it for them but not for me. But now it's coming to the point I'm beginning to see, "Yes, I can do this." It was in there, but it's something I never thought I had. And this is the nature of the Guru-disciple relationship. He sees for us when we're blind. You know it says he opened our eyes? But while our eyes are still in the process of opening, he's seeing for us. And he's saying, "Now watch, put your step here, and there's a crack there, step over that. And there's a bump over here, you know, avoid that." But we're there, "No, no, I don't want to go, you're gonna hurt me, no!" No, that's too heavy. You know, it's like the child who's grabbed a razor blade and they're holding it tight. What happens? The mother's saying, now open your finger, come on, I'll give you some candy, just open your finger. And it hurts and baby's going, ahh, ahh. And what happens when he goes, ahh, ahh? The hand goes, mm, mm, like that, tighter and tighter. So we're holding on to Maya, which is like a razor blade. We're the source of our own pain. And the spiritual master says, now let go, I'll give you some sweet prasadam. How about some singing and nice kirtans? How about a garuda? No, let go! And this is the nature of the spiritual master's relationship with us. You know, it's like we can sit here, but you know, there has to come a time when we become Bhagavatam. This book, this Bhagavad Gita, is a love letter from Krishna. In it, there's all sorts of verses. He says, "This person who does this is very dear to me, and this person who does this is more dear." but the most dear. Who's the most dear? That person who preaches the Bhagavad-gita in the association of my devotees. That person is the most dear, there will never be anyone more dear. Now, oh wow, that puts Prabhupada in that association, that puts our spiritual master in association. And you know, if it's as simple as preaching Bhagavad-gita to people who want to hear, okay, I want to be in that association. And that's how we become Bhagavatam, we become the living book. It doesn't sit on the pages anymore. But you know the only way it comes off of the pages is by the mercy of the spiritual master. By enthusiastically, with our full heart, trying to make him smile. It's as simple as that. When you love someone, you want to see them smile. The only reason I took— you know why I took this video thing on? Because in Mayapur, I said, "I'm gonna get a computer to do some service for you." "What service do you want?" He says, Whatever, you just figure it out, right? And so I asked every disciple and they finally told me multimedia, video, he wants all this. And I said, well, okay, I want my spiritual master to be so pleased he becomes stunned. And when we came back to the United States and we were standing in front of Best Buy, he asked me, well, why are you getting such a powerful computer? And I told him what I wanted to do. I wanted to do multimedia and we're gonna, you know, start trying to do video. And it's taken a long time to learn, let me tell you, almost 8 years to learn this. So we're still going to do that. But the thing is, is that, um, he stopped and he was stunned. We were standing in Best Buy and he was— and he had, he had a program in front of him and he was like— it's like I'd never, never seen Guru stunned. It was what he wanted, somebody had heard his heart. You know, we're always saying, Guru, give me this, Guru, give me that, Guru, do this for me, Guru, do that for me. But how many times are we saying, how can I please you? What will make you happy? And when you do that, when the baby is mama, mama, mama, but when we grow into bigger children, what do older children do? They ask, mama, can I do something to help you? Daddy, how can I help you? Right? So our duty is to grow into older children and to begin to reciprocate. Instead of saying, "How are you pleasing me?" it's, "What can I do to make you smile?" And the pure devotee, what makes him smile? Bringing other people to Ka, helping other people to grow, nurturing other people, and raising our younger godbrothers and godsisters and bringing new godbrothers and godsisters so the family grows. And I've been given the high sign, so I'll stop there. His little watch came up. All glories to one of the most enthusiastic people I've ever met. Ganga! Thank you for watching our videos.
